• Why does Windows Explorer search freeze when I have an unrelated program paused in a debugger

  While debugging my program, whether it's an ASP.NET application or a .NET console EXE and I have the debugger paused at a breakpoint I try to find a file in Windows Explorer. Either pressing WinKey+F or selecting search from the context menu freezes Windows Explorer - until I resume the program being debugged. My program has nothing to do with Windows Explorer! In fact, this happens in Visual Studio 2008 even with the simplest console EXE (WriteLine and ReadLine). I can't repro it with this simple EXE in WinDbg, but it does happen in with WinDb debugging an ASP.NET app. Why does this happen and how do I fix it? It's bloody annoying, especially when you don't realise what's going on. This is on Windows XP x64 SP2, running a .NET 3.5 application.

• Google Chrome "window.open" workaround?

  Hi Folks! I have been working on a web app and for part of it I need to open a new window. I have this working on all browsers, my sticking point is with Google Chrome. Chrome seems to ignore the window features which is causing me issues, the thing I'm struggling with is I need the address bar to be editable within the new window. FF, IE, Safari and Opera do this fine, Chrome does not.   I've found boolean mode of MySQL full text search useful, however there are a couple of things I can't seem to figure out how to achieve. For instance imagine I have a full text column containing the words "Steve's Javascript Tutorial - Part One". I would like to match this for each of the following searches: "tutorials", "javascript tutorials", "java", "java script", "script" Imagine that each of those searches is simply assigned to a variable in whatever language may be being used (I always use PHP). How could I modify this to make sure that Steve's article is returned on each of those searches? MATCH (article_title) AGAINST ('"+$variable+"*' IN BOOLEAN MODE)

I am working on the google maps integration in iphone (objective C). i am calculating zoom level dynamically so that two map points fits the iphone screen. it is good for locations very far, but i have issue that if two locations are very near to each other the zoom level then the images go blank and does not show anything other than blurred image, which i dont want. i want that if location are very near then there should be some default level zoom that should be called or fitted in, so that images wont blur.

  I have created a table in my Ruby on Rails application that I am building called Tags. It is a blog application so I allow the user to associate tags with a post and do this through a :posts, :has_many = tags and Tag belongs_to :post association. Now that I have my Tags table I am trying to see how I would render the view such that it displays the tag and tag count. (it should be noted that I am trying to render this in the /views/posts/index.html.erb file). For instance, if there are 10 entries in the Tag table for tag_name Sports. How can I display Sports (10) in the view. I am not looking to do this for a specific tag but rather, somehow search the table, combine like tags and display a list of all tags with counts next to them. (I really want these to be a link to a list of posts that contain that tag but I learned early on only to ask one question at a time). Hope that makes sense.

Preprocessing is ok since I will be calling this function many times over different inputs. priorties: 1. speed. 2. memory I already know I can use (n is number of words, m is average length of the words) 1. a trie, time is O(log(n)), space(best case) is O(log(n*m)), space(worst case) is O(n*m). 2. load the complete list into memory, then binary search, time is O(log(n)), space is O(n*m) I'm not sure about the complexity on tri, please correct me if they are wrong. Also are there other good approaches?

• Mysql search design

  I'm designing a mysql database, and i'd like some input on an efficient way to store blog/article data for searching. Right now, I've made a separate column that stores the content to be searched - no duplicate words, no words shorter than four letters, and no words that are too common. So, essentially, it's a list of keywords from the original article. Also searched would be a list of tags, and the title field. I'm not quite sure how mysql indexes fulltext columns, so would storing the data like that be ineffective, or redundant somehow? A lot of the articles are on the same topic, so would the score be hurt by so many of the rows having similar keywords? Also, for this project, solutions like sphinx, lucene or google custom seach can't be used -- only php & mysql. Thanks!

  How do you structure you graphs/nodes in a graph search class? I'm basically creating a NavMesh and need to generate the nodes from 1 polygon to the other. The edge that joins both polygons will be the node. I'll then run A* on these Nodes to calculate the shortest path. I just need to know how to structure my classes and their properties? I know for sure I wont need to create a fully blown undirected graph with nodes and edges.

  I have 2 lists old_name_list = [a-1234, a-1235, a-1236] new_name_list = [(a-1235, a-5321), (a-1236, a-6321), (a-1234, a-4321), ... ] I want to search recursively if the elements in old_name_list exist in new_name_list and returns the associated value with it, for eg. the first element in old_name_list returns a-4321, second element returns a-5321, and so on until old_name_list finishes. I have tried the following and it doesn't work for old_name, new_name in zip(old_name_list, new_name_list): if old_name in new_name[0]: print new_name[1] Is the method I am doing wrong or I have to make some minor changes to it? • .htaccess setting is not working on Google Chrome

  I am using CakePHP framework, it redirect everything to the app folder using .htaccess, and then I set up a WordPress blog in /news/ folder outside of CakePHP, so I don't want everything in /news/ to be redirect, so I modify the .htaccess, and here is the final version: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/news/(.*)$ RewriteRule ^.*$ - [L] </IfModule> <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^$ app/webroot/ [L] RewriteRule (.*) app/webroot/$1 [L] </IfModule> It's working fine in IE and FireFox, I can visit mydomain/news/, but in Google Chrome, it still redirects to CakePHP app folder.   Following on from my last question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2788082/sql-server-query-performance, and discovering that my method of allowing optional parameters in a search query is sub optimal, does anyone have guidelines on how to approach this? For example, say I have an application table, a customer table and a contact details table, and I want to create an SP which allows searching on some, none or all of surname, homephone, mobile and app ID, I may use something like the following: select * from application a inner join customer c on a.customerid = a.id left join contact hp on (c.id = hp.customerid and hp.contacttype = 'homephone') left join contact mob on (c.id = mob.customerid and mob.contacttype = 'mobile') where (a.ID = @ID or @ID is null) and (c.Surname = @Surname or @Surname is null) and (HP.phonenumber = @Homphone or @Homephone is null) and (MOB.phonenumber = @Mobile or @Mobile is null) The schema used above isn't real, and I wouldn't be using select * in a real world scenario, it is the construction of the where clause I am interested in. Is there a better approach, either dynamic sql or an alternative which can achieve the same result, without the need for many nested conditionals. Some SPs may have 10 - 15 criteria used in this way

• g++ library search failure

  I have a directory structure as below: / | +--- /lib | libsomething.a | libsomething.so | +----/obj anObjFile.o When I run the following command from within the obj directory: g++ -L../lib -lsomething anObjFile.o I get undefined reference errors. Apparently gcc is failing to locate libsomething.a. But now if I delete libsomething.so and then rerun the command, linking succeeds. As per gcc documentation -lsomething should expand to libsomething.a. Then why is presence of libsomething.so causing the library search to fail? Also, how can I resolve this problem? I'm on Linux Mint 12 with gcc version 4.6.1.

Then it should search each file and dir in this copied dir for a String (e.g @ForTestingOnly) and then this save the line number. Then it should go on and count each { and } as soon as the number is equals it should save againg the line number. = it should delete all the lines between this 2 numbers. • Log analyzer that calculates "time on page"?

  I need to get an idea of the average "time on page" or "page view duration" for each page on my websites without client-side scripting (such as using onunload event handler). Is any of the free log analyzers capable of doing this? I looked at Webalizer, AWStats and Analog, but they don't seem to have such a function. The closest thing is "visits duration" in AWStats, but I'd like to see "page view duration" instead. I know that visitor tracking is inaccurate without client-side scripting, but I can bear with it. Google Analytics seems to provide a "time on page" metric without hooking the onunload event (but correct me if I'm wrong), so I believe this is possible.

• Integrated Windows Authentication with Chrome and FireFox

  I have a webapplication which uses claims based authentication. The STS is ADFS 2.0. When I am in the intranet and use IE, IWA is used and no login dialog appears. When I am on the internet zone, the Forms based authentication of ADFS is used. Just what I want. Chrome and FireFox are also working as expected when I am in the internet zone. But when I am in the intranet zone, both come with a login dialog, instead of using IWA. And supplying my credentials in that dialog does not work, it keeps repeating the dialog. Any hints? UPDATE: Did about an hour searching on the internet before I asked this question. But after asking it I did just another search giving the answer :-), matter of finding the correct keywords. • Chrome: Saved username/password filled in incognito mode

  If I open an incognito window in Google Chrome and go to a webpage where Chrome has a saved username and password from (for example the login form on http://gmail.com), I see that my username and password are automatically filled in. Does that mean that I am not really incognito? Can the website see my username even if I don't explicitly log in? Or is there some mechanism behind the scenes that prevents the webpage from grabbing auto-filled values unless I actually log in? Clarification: Stored usernames (and passwords) are a lot like cookies: your unique identifier linked to a certain site, stored locally in your browser, available to the site when you open it. When you go incognito you ask your browser not to identify you to the sites you visit. It does that by (among other things) not exposing its cookies. Exposing the stored username in this mode does not make sense to me (but maybe I'm missing something...).
