• Multiplayer mobile games and coping with high latency

  I'm currently researching regarding a design for an online (realtime) mobile multiplayer game. As such, i'm taking into consideration that latencies (lag) is going to be high (perhaps higher than PC/consoles). I'd like to know if there are ways to overcome this or minimize the issues of high latency? The model i'll be using is peer-to-peer (using Photon cloud to broadcast messages to all other players). How do i deal with a scenario where a message about a local object's state at time t will only get to other players at *t + HUGE_LAG* ?

• How to make Chrome/Chromium remember passwords in the gnome seahorse keyring?

  Is it possible to make chrome or chromium (as that comes default in the repos) to use the Gnome seahorse as password vault? I have not found a way to do this for Firefox either, but maybe a solution for Firefox will lead to a solution for Chrome. FYI: Epiphany is properly integrated into Gnome by default, and does use the default password vault. It would be great to at least have all passwords in a single, actually secure, place, instead of laying around in my home-dir. Even better would be if somehow they could re-use eachothers passwords, but that depends on the implementation of this integration, i guess.

  By Anthony Lye, SVP, Cloud Applications Strategy, Oracle We know that customer experience has emerged as a primary differentiator for businesses today.  I’ve talked a lot about the new age of the empowered consumer. At Oracle we’ve spent a lot of time developing technologies and practices that our customers can implement to greatly improve their customer experience strategies. Of course I’m biased, but I think that we have created a portfolio of the best solutions on the planet to help organizations deal with the challenges of providing great customer experiences. We’ve done this because we started to witness some trends over the last few years. As the average person began to utilize social and mobile technologies more frequently and products commoditized, customer experience truly remained the only sustainable differentiator for businesses.In fact, we have seen that customer experience is often driving the success or the failure of a product or a brand. And as end customers have become more vocal about their experiences with companies on social and mobile channels, they now have the power to decide which brands will win and which brands will lose. To address this customer experience imperative, I believe that business today must do three things really well:Connect with your customers. You have to connect with customers whenever, wherever and however they want. Organizations must provide a great experience on their existing channels— the call center, the brick and mortar store, the field sales organizations, the websites and social properties. Businesses must also be great at managing and delivering journeys on these channels, while quickly adapting to embrace the new channels that emerge. You have to understand mobile. You have to understand social. You have to understand kiosks. These are all new routes to market, new channels where your customers may or may not show up. You have to interact with them where they are. You have to present information in a way that's meaningful to them. As well as providing what we would call a multichannel experience. We have to recognize that customers may start their experience on one channel, but end it on a different channel. It’s important that an organization’s technology solutions enable, not just a multichannel strategy, but a strategy that can power new channels and create customer journeys that cross these channels.Get to know your customers. Next, companies need to get to know the customer as intimately as the customer will allow. Today most customer interactions are anonymous, but it’s important for brands to know which customers drive value. Customers want to provide feedback. They want to share their opinions, but they want to know that those opinions are being heard and acted upon. For this to occur, we need to know much more about the customer and then reward them for their loyalty and for their advocacy.Enable connections. The last thing is to enable people to connect or transact with your brand. We've got to make it really, really simple for customers to do business with us. We can't make them repeat the steps; we can't make them tell us their identity for the fifth time as they move between organizations. These silos can no longer sustain or deliver a good customer experience. It's extremely important that companies be where customers want them to be—that we create profitable journeys for us and for them.Organizations have to make sure that there is a single source of truth that defines the customer. We have to make sure that the technology applications that we rely on understand not just the dimensions of multichannel, but of cross-channel too. We have to enable social at the very core of the overall architecture. We have to use historical analytics, real-time decisioning as well as predictive analytics to help personalize and drive an experience. And these are all technologies that IT needs, that IT is familiar with, but needs to enable for the line of business that in turn can enable for the end customer.  This means that we've got to make our solutions available to the customers in the cloud.In this new age of the empowered consumer, businesses have to focus on delivery mechanisms that reduce the overall TCO, while driving a rapid rate of innovation and a more rapid rate of deployment. • Set Up Of Common Name Of SSL Certificate To Protect Plesk Panel

  A PCI Compliance scanner is balking that the self signed SSL certificate protecting secure access to Plesk Panel contains a name mismatch between the location of the Plesk Panel and the name on the certificate, namely the self-signed cert's name is "Parallels" and the domain to reach Plesk is 'ip address:8443'. So I figured I would go ahead and get a free SSL certificate to try to fiddle with this error. But when I generated the certificate I used my server domain name as the site name when I generated the certificate. So if I visit 'domain name:8443' all is fine, no ssl warning. But if I visit 'ip address:8443' (which I believe is what the scanner does) I get the certificate name mismatch error, Digicert's ssl checker says that the certificate name should be the ip address. Can I even generate a certificate whose common name is the ip address? I am tempted to say I should just do what the PCI scanner accepts, but what is really the correct common name to use? Anybody run into this issue before?

  I've made a banner for my website and I'm planning to ask my followers to share it on their website to help improve my rank. my website is hosted on GAE, the banners are less than 5kb/each and I must say that I don't want to pay for extra bandwidth I've read the Google App Engine Quotas but honestly I don't understand anything of it. Would you please tell me which table/data in this page should be of my concern? Also, do you think it's wise to host such banners, that are going to end up on 3rd party websites, on the GAE? or am I more secure if I use free online services like Google Picasa?

• JMonkey Engine (JME) load Blender scene with textures?

  I am having the hardest time trying to accomplish the simplest task. I have created a floor and 4 walls (not that complicated) in Blender. I added a basic material and cloud texture so they have something to look at other than gray. When I import them into JMonkey they show up as solid white objects with no shading or depth. White silhouettes. I thought this may be a lighting issue, but I have ambient light added to the scene. I can remove that light or adjust its intensity and it has no affect on the scene. I exported all Blender files into OgreXML format, then converted them to .j3o format in JMonkey. I renamed the textures to match their corresponding mesh and this didn't do anything. Does anybody know how to create a flat object and put it into JMonkey with a texture? This sounds simple and there is absolutely no information on this. This should be step 1!

• Installed UBUNTU12.04 in Legacy, when changed to UEFI just runs the Terminal, not GUI

  Well, I installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a Gateway NE 522 with Windows 8. First, I had to install it in Legacy mode, because in UEFI it would not run the bootable USB. In the Legacy mode it runs perfect. Once done that with help of the "Boot-Repair" I changed it to the UEFI and disabled the secure boot mode. GRUB runs fine but when I run ubuntu I get the following message: microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam16h.bin kvm: disabled by bios kvm: disabled by bios kvm: disabled by bios and then I just get access to the terminal. From there, I have already tried with reinstalling unity and gmd. When I try to install amd64-microcode the same error ocurrs ( microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam16h.bin ) by the "updating the microcode on all online processors..." phase of the installation. Can somebody tell me how can I recover the graphical interphase of ubuntu from the terminal? Thanks a lot

Upon sign-up, new AWS customers receive 5 GB of Amazon S3 storage, 20,000 Get Requests, 2,000 Put Requests, 15GB of bandwidth in and 15GB of bandwidth out each month for one year. source:aws.amazon.com , emphasis mine. 20,000 GET requests & 2000 puts mean , 20,000 page views(max) and 2000 file uploads per month. Isn't that lower than what App Engine offers 43,200,000 requests per day.Am I missing some thing, please help.

• Grams to Pounds: A Domino Chain Reaction [Video]

  Most of us have seen a domino knock down or two in our day, but this demonstration video shows how a series of increasingly larger dominoes allow a tiny domino to knock over a 100 pound domino. A domino can knock over another domino about 50% larger than itself. A chain of dominos of increasing size makes a kind of mechanical chain reaction that starts with a tiny push and knocks down an impressively large domino. • Custom Silent HTPC Uses Entire Case as a Heatsink

  This silent media center PC dissipates heat in a rather clever way; the entire back of the case is one giant heatsink. Courtesy of computer enthusiast and tinker DeFex, the build isn’t just silent but quite eye catching too. He used a combination of one massive heatsink, custom brackets, acrylic, and bicycle spokes to create a sleek case that looks as much like a computer-inspired work of art as it does a media center computer.
