• Resize the /var directory in redhat enterprise edition 4

  I am running NDB mysql. the log files fills up the /var directory. therefore i cant start the ndbd service now. as a temporary fix, i have deleted the log files and again working fine. but again the log files fill up the /var directory. i got plenty of space in other partition. therefore i would like to swap the partition from one directory to /var. here if my input from df -h Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 ext3 54G 2.9G 49G 6% / /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 ext3 99M 14M 81M 14% /boot none tmpfs 1013M 0 1013M 0% /dev/shm /dev/cciss/c0d0p2 ext3 9.7G 9.7G 0 100% /var there are plenty of space in /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00. Therefore i will like to swap 10 G space from this directory to /var. could you please help me out to solve this problem?

  Hello, I want to develop using a framework called symfony BUT, i do not have a MAC and i don't want to dual boot with Debian. I tryed virtual hosts via Virtual Box but it's too crappy. So i decided to stay on windows So when the tutorial tells me to do php lib/vendor/symfony/data/bin/check_configuration.php i do in the windows cmd : php lib\vendor\symfony\data\bin\check_configuration.php and it tells me : 'php' is not recognized as an internal or external command I use UwAmp (php 5.2.12 + mysql + apache) which is stored in E:\logiciels\UwAmp\ inside i have buch of file, but i guess that is important : E:\logiciels\UwAmp\apache\php_5.2.11 How to make the cmd PHP in the windows cmd work propely please?

• Log with timestamps that have millisecond accuracy & resolution in Windows C++

  I'm aware that for timing accuracy, functions like timeGetTime, timeBeginPeriod, QueryPerformanceCounter etc are great, giving both good resolution & accuracy, but only based on time-since-boot, with no direct link to clock time. However, I don't want to time events as such. I want to be able to produce an exact timestamp (local time) so that I can display it in a log file, eg 31-12-2010 12:38:35.345, for each entry made. (I need the millisecond accuracy) The standard Windows time functions, like GetLocalTime, whilst they give millisecond values, don't have millisecond resolution, depending on the OS running. I'm using XP, so I can't expect much better than about a 15ms resolution. What I need is a way to get the best of both worlds, without creating a large overhead to get the required output. Overly large methods/calculations would mean that the logger would start to eat up too much time during its operation. What would be the best/simplest way to do this?

• Blackberry 507 Erorr

  I didn't think it would be so catastrophic when I typed JavaLoader -usb wipe -a into the command line with my blackberry 8800 test device. It reboots with a 507 error that I can't get rid of. I have Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.6, which is normally what I use to upload my test apps, but this time I go to Application Loader, hitting start gives me that dialog box that shows me the list of 1 USB connection "PIN: xxx" with a password field (which I have no idea of,) then it says "connecting to boot ROM" then stops at the message: A connection to the device can not be established... Now is there a hard physical way of resetting my blackberry 8800, please?

  A friend and I are thinking about creating a simple file system for learning purposes. We're going to write it in C/C++, and try to get it to a mountable state from within linux. We've both been coding or over 16 years (32 combined), so I suppose its just a matter of finding some documentation, and a ton of learning. My question is, where could I find out more information? (Documentation for creating a file system, requirements of mounting a file system in linux, etc) Where do we start? Edit: I should also mention, this would not be a boot-able file system, just a file system used for storage, though I am not too sure if that matters or not.

• Whenever Gem gives error on Ruby 1.9.3 - No Such File To Load

  I've used whenever gem with ruby 1.9.2 without any problems, but I installed ruby 1.9.3p125 on my server and it stopped working.   [SOLVED] - add ubi.mtd=volume_name to bootargs in uboot I want to mount UBIFS partition via /etc/fstab at startup. I created UBIFS and Volume: # ubiformat /dev/mtdX # ubiattach -p /dev/mtdX # ubimkvol /dev/ubi0 -N volume_name -s 64MiB # ubiupdatevol /dev/ubi0_0 /path/to/ubifs.img # mount -t ubifs ubi0:volume_name /mount/point but after reboot this line in etc/fstab doesn't work: ubi0:volume_name /mnt/user ubifs defaults 0 0 There is no fs mounted in /mnt/user. Also when I try to call mount -a: mount: mounting ubi0:volume_name on /mnt/user failed: No such device There are no ubi0,ubi0_0 in /dev. I also don't see any UBI calls in dmesg like here: UBIFS boot error

• Repeat over files in a File > Open dialog with Applescript

I've got the window into the state I want, but whatever I try can't access the list of files to repeat over. • I'm getting reports that my app is draining the battery, but only on HTC Incredible.

  Has anyone else noticed behavior specific to the HTC Incredible that might result in an app keeping the device awake and busy? I've received reports that my app is responsible for keeping the device awake and draining the battery, but only from HTC Incredible users. My app responds to a number of Intents that might be related. It has a service that starts on boot, and it also responds to changes in network connectivity. I do use a WakeLock, but I'm careful to release it when I'm done processing, and the WakeLock times out after a couple minutes whether I'm done or not. I've heard that the Incredible may have some connectivity problems, or that some of them do. Could it be that the network is going up and down frequently, triggering my app? Any other ideas? I've asked a user to send me their logs with aLogCat. If they're willing, that may help narrow down the cause.

• I tried installing Ubuntu 10.04 and I got this message - any ideas on what to do?

  No root file system defined. Please correct this from the partition menu. This message shows up when I first boot into Ubuntu after the installation. I installed it by mounting the ISO with Daemon Tools, and I just did the default Wubi installation. I keep reading everywhere that I need to choose my installation directory, but I don't get any option to do that. These are all the options I get for installation directory. I have a C and D partition on my drive, and I tried installing it on both and no luck either way. Any ideas?

  I am writing an application in java that I care about being secure. After encrypting a byte array, I want to forcibly remove from memory anything potentially dangerous such as the key used. In the following snippet key is a byte[], as is data. SecretKeySpec secretKeySpec = new SecretKeySpec(key, "AES"); Cipher cipher = Cipher.getInstance("AES"); cipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, secretKeySpec); byte[] encData = cipher.doFinal(data, 0, data.length); Arrays.fill(key, (byte)0); As far as I understand, the last line above overwrites the key with 0s so that it no longer contains any dangerous data, but I can't find a way to overwrite or evict secretKeySpec or cipher similarly. Is there any way to forcibly overwrite the memory held by secretKeySpec and cipher, so that if someone were to be able to view the current memory state (say, via a cold boot attack), they would not get access to this information?

  I've got some old Intel printer (Etherexpress XL ) print servers and they seem to be running an Intel OS called Cos aka Intel Client Os i86 I've found out that much just looking in the update files from Intel. It was at least partly written in C. How do I make a custom software image Intel Cos's boot loader will understand ? I know a host PC xmodem's the image to the client device, and I was wondering if anyone had already either reverse-engineered this or had original info ? or is my only recousre to reverse engineer the update file format ?

  Application scenario: I have the (normal/permanent) /var/log mounted on an encrypted partition (/dev/LVG/log). /dev/LVG/log is not accessible at boot time, it needs to be manually activated later by su from ssh. A RAM drive (using tmpfs) is mounted to /var/log at init time (in rc.local). Once /dev/LVG/log is activated, I need a good way of appending everything in the tmpfs to /dev/LVG/log, before mounting it as /var/log. Any recommendations on what would be a good way of doing so? • Ubuntu Wired network(ethernet does not work)

  It was working just fine, until the other day I yanked it out. The wireless works just fine on the same router. If I login to a windows 7 instance on this dual boot laptop then the ehternet works just fine. So it's not a hardware, cable or router issue. The card even gets an ip, but I can't connect to the internet. Here are the details from route, iptables, ifconfig, ping etc. Any ideas? • How to handle this "session failed to write file" error in PHP?

  I am using the Kohana 3 framework, and am using the native session driver. For some reason, occasionally the sessions fail to write to their file. Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp/sess_*****, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/site/public_html/system/classes/kohana/session/native.php on line 27 I am pretty sure Kohana has its own in built error handler, but it is not triggered with this error (i.e. it shows up like a normal PHP error, not the Kohana error). Anyone that has ever used Kohana will notice this seems to have bypassed Kohana's error handling (perhaps set with set_error_handler()). Is there anyway to stop this error from appearing without switching from the native session (i.e. file based) driver? Should I just give good practice the boot and append an @ error suppressor to session_start() in the core code of Kohana? Should I relax the error_reporting()? Thanks

  I have been trying to find a way to "defragment" the registry on my Windows machine. Firstly, does this make sense? Any benefits in doing this? (Not much love on superuser.com) Secondly, I am looking for a way to rewrite the registry using C/C++ with Windows API. Is there a way to read the registry and write it to a new file getting rid of unused bytes along the way? (I might have to write the new file and then boot into another OS/disk before I can overwrite the original... but I am willing to take that risk.)

• Resizing Ubuntu x64 Server Partition with VirtualBox not reflected in OS

  I've already resized my virtual disk with VirtualBox, but now need to extend the partition of my Ubuntu VM itself. I thought I was on my way with GParted live CD, but after I resize the "extended" filesystem partition, and then the child "lvm2 pv" filesystem partition to fill the unallocated space, df -h still shows the original disk size after I reboot into the VM. Any tips on this? I've scoured the webs tirelessly. Should I be resizing the boot (/dev/sda1) partition instead? Should I try to convert my lvm2 to ext4 or something? I'm lost on this. Note: VirtualBox hard disk is "dynamic". Specs: VBox 4.2.18 Ubuntu 12.04.2 amd64 Gparted 0.16.2-1b-i486

Is it actually a normal application that just draws stuff, and starts after the kernel boot? And how does it draw it? Using OpenGL or is there something more generic?   Heres what happened. I had a snapshot on which I was working from within a linux VM. A friend requested a clean VM as a clone of mine. So I closed / shutdown my running VM, made a copy of the Disk1.vdi along with the snapshots ({uuid}.vdi). Then I restarted the VM and did merged snapshots, deleted my home directory and made a tar+bz2 for my friend. Then after I restored my backups, I am not able to mount my snapshot. The VM seems to boot from my version before snapshot. I cant seem to find a way to mount back my snapshot. Any idea how to make VirtualBox see the snapshot and mount it?

• Can't connect to SSL web service with WS-Security using PHP SOAP extension - certificate, complex WSDL

  Using the PHP5 SOAP extension I have been unable to connect to a web service having an https endpoint, with client certificate and using WS-Security, although I can connect using soapUI with the exact same wsdl and client certificate, and obtain the normal response to the request. There is no HTTP authentication and no proxy is involved. The message I get is 'Could not connect to host'. Have been able to verify that I am NOT hitting the host server. (Earlier I wrongly said that I was hitting the server.) The self-signed client SSL certificate is a .pem file converted by openssl from a .p12 keystore which in turn was converted by keytool from a .jks keystore having a single entry consisting of private key and client certificate. In soapUI I did not need to supply a server private certificate, the only two files I gave it were the wdsl and pem. I did have to supply the pem and its passphrase to be able to connect. I am speculating that despite the error message my problem might actually be in the formation of the XML request rather than the SSL connection itself. The wsdl I have been given has nested complex types. The php server is on my Windows XP laptop with IIS. The code, data values and WSDL extracts are shown below. (The WSSoapClient class simply extends SoapClient, adding a WS-Security Username Token header with mustUnderstand = true and including a nonce, both of which the soapUI call had required.) Would so much appreciate any help. I'm a newbie thrown in at the deep end, and how!   Hello all, I'm trying to parse some returned html to look for currently playing movies. The pattern I'm trying to match looks like: <span dir=ltr>Clash of the Titans</span> Of which there are several in the returned html. (the html is huge, I've posted a sample at the bottom) I'm trying get an array of the movie titles with the following command: titles = listings_html.split(/(<span dir=ltr>).*(<\/span>)/) But I'm not getting the results I'm expecting. Can anyone see a problem with my approach or regex?
