• SQL Server: Is it possible to prevent SQL Agent from failing a step on error?

  I have a stored procedure that runs custom backups for around 60 SQL servers (mixes 2000 through 2008R2). Occasionally, due to issues outside of my control (backup device inaccessible, network error, etc.) an individual backup on one or two databases will fail. This causes this entire step to fail, which means any subsequent backup commands are not executed and half of the databases on a given server may not be backed up. On the 2005+ boxes I am using TRY/CATCH blocks to manage these problems and continue backing up the remaining databases. On a 2000 server however, for example, I have no way to prevent this error from failing the entire step: Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot open backup device 'db-diff(\PATH\DB-DIFF-03-16-2010.DIF)'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. I am simply asking if anything like TRY/CATCH is possible in SQL 2000? I realize there are no built in methods for this, so I guess I am looking for some creativity. Even when wrapping each backup (or any failing statement) via sp_executesql the job fails instantly. Example: DECLARE @x INT, @iReturn INT PRINT 'Executing statement that will fail with 208.' EXEC @iReturn = Sp_executesql N'SELECT * from TABLETHATDOESNTEXIST;' PRINT Cast(@iReturn AS NVARCHAR) --In SSMS this return code prints. Executed as a job it fails and aborts before this statement.

• Using hg repository as web site

  This is somewhat related to my security question here. Is it a bad idea to use an hg / mercurial repository for a live website? If so, why? Furthermore, we have dev, test and production installations of our website, like dev.example.com, test.example.com and www.example.com. If it's a bad idea to use a repository for a live/production website, would it be OK to use an hg repository for the dev and test sites? I'm also concerned about ease of deployment. We have technical and less technical co-workers who will be working with the site. The technical guys (software engineers) won't have any problem working with the command line or TortoiseHG. I'm more concerned about the less technical guys (web designers). They won't be comfortable working on the command line, and may even find TortoiseHG daunting. These guys mostly upload .css files and images to the server. I'd like for these files (at least the .css files) to be under version control, but I want this to be as transparent as possible for the non technical guys. What's the best way to achieve this? Edit: Our 'site' is actually a multi-site CMS setup with a main repository and several subrepositories. Mock-up of the repository structure: /root [main repository containing core files and subrepositories] /modules [modules subrepository] /sites/global [subrepository for global .css and .php files] /sites/site1 [site1 subrepository] ... /sites/siteN [siteN subrepository] Software engineers would work in the root, modules and sites/global repositories. Less technical guys (web designers) would work only in the site1 ... siteN subrepositories.

I don't understand how this is happening since "Resource temporarily unavailable" is supposed to correspond to EAGAIN as far as I know. I'm sure there must be something simple I'm missing. And yes, I know this is not a full proof way to test and I account for that.

• Sourcing a script file in bash before starting an executable

  Hi, I'm trying to write a bash script that "wraps" whatever the user wants to invoke (and its parameters) sourcing a fixed file just before actually invoking it. To clarify: I have a "ConfigureMyEnvironment.bash" script that must be sourced before starting certain executables, so I'd like to have a "LaunchInMyEnvironment.bash" script that you can use as in: LaunchInMyEnvironment <whatever_executable_i_want_to_wrap> arg0 arg1 arg2 I tried the following LaunchInMyEnvironment.bash: #!/usr/bin/bash launchee="$@" if [ -e ConfigureMyEnvironment.bash ]; then source ConfigureMyEnvironment.bash; fi exec "$launchee" where I have to use the "launchee" variable to save the $@ var because after executing source, $@ becomes empty.   Scenario: I have a windows form that holds a DataGridWiew with 3 pre-defined columns. I have 3 variables declared outside the function and assigned to inside the function. I have a function that enumerates stuff and puts it in the 3 columns, line by line: string VARIABLE1; string VARIABLE2; string VARIABLE3; private void FunctionEnumerateStuff() { foreach (StuffObject STUFF in StuffCollection) { VARIABLE1 = STUFF.SubStuff1.ToString(); VARIABLE2 = STUFF.SubStuff2.ToString(); VARIABLE3 = STUFF.SubStuff3.ToString(); DatagridWiew1.Rows.Add(VALUE1, VALUE2, VALUE3); } } What I want to do, is to execute this function from a BackGroundWorker process, so that the GUI of the application will be smooth and responsive. I have read up on backgroundworkers but I am having trouble relating, because all examples seems to be of entirely different scenarios and most of them are overwelmingly complex. San some helpful pedagogic soul help me and others with a very basic example of how to get this to work in the simplest way possible. Thanks.

• What is wrong with this mail header text?

  The following $header is being sent via PHP's mail($to,$subject,$content,$header) command. The mail arrives and appears to have an attachment. But the mail text is empty as is the file. I think this has something to do with line spacing but I can't see the problem. I have tried putting the contents (between the boundaries) in $contents rather than appending it to $header. It doesn't make a difference. Any thoughts? • PCRE/PHP regex not matching last "item"

  Here's a regex that I've cobbled up: /(.*={76}\s)?\s*(.*?)\s\-\-\s(\d{2}\/\d{2}\-\d{2}\s\d{2}:\d{2})\s\s(.*?)\s(http:\/\/service.*?)\s(\-{76})/is and here's the text I will be parsing: http://p.linode.com/7015 and here's the replacement for the matched text: <item>\n\t<title>$2</title>\n\t<pubDate>$pubDate</pubDate>\n\t<description>$4</description>\n\t<link>$5</link>\n</item>\n\n I have almost come up with a regex needed to parse a block of text into RSS 2.0 XML markup. I've tested it with RegExr and RegexBuddy and it works perfectly except for the last "item" where there is no line breaks after the link (Line 269). In short, the problem is the "iProperty" article in the text is not matched. Any regex gurus willing to help me troubleshoot what's wrong? I've tried /(.*={76}\s)?\s*(.*?)\s\-\-\s(\d{2}\/\d{2}\-\d{2}\s\d{2}:\d{2})\s\s(.*?)\s(http:\/\/service.*?)\s*(\-{76})/is Here's the output that I get: http://p.linode.com/7016 but that didn't work as I expected (i.e. a newline would be optional). • In VB.net websites, VS2008 ALWAYS uses space indentation for new files

  So, I've changed my settings in Tools | Options | Text Editor, for All Languages, Basic, and C#, to having Block indenting, and 'Keep tabs'. I've also tried this with Smart indenting too. Now, although once I start editing a file, its auto indentation is done with tabs, when I create a new web form in my ASP.net website, VS2008 insists on creating the initial code with space indentation. So for example, I'll get an aspx.vb file for my new page like so: Partial Class Admin_Index Inherits System.Web.UI.Page End Class Note that the 'Inherits' line is SPACE-indented, even though I have the text editor settings set to keep tabs. Is there any way I can make the default created files indented with tabs, not spaces? Or is VS just too stubborn? :-) By the way, please don't just respond and say this is petty as I can quickly change that one line of indentation to using a tab. I know this, but I have a software team that find it irritating as we have an SVN hook that prevents checkins if there's any space-indentation. It would be very useful if any newly-created files have tab indentation from the start, rather than us having to change it every time.

  I have a scroll view and I need to reload the contents often while my app is running. Right now, I'm using the following line of code to remove the subviews before adding them back again: [scrollView.subviews makeObjectsPerformSelector:@selector(removeFromSuperview)]; Should I be using the following instead? scrollView.subviews = nil; For some reason, the (first) above line of code seems to crash the app every 16 times it is run. Am I leaking memory somewhere? The following method takes an array of views, the scroller (which is a constant) and the direction.   Okay. Now I give up. I have been playing with this for hours. I have a variable name $data. The variable contains these contents: array ( 'headers' => array ( 'content-type' => 'multipart/alternative; boundary="_689e1a7d-7a0a-442a-bd6c-a1fb1dc2993e_"', ), 'ctype_parameters' => array ( 'boundary' => '_689e1a7d-7a0a-442a-bd6c-a1fb1dc2993e_', ), 'parts' => array ( 0 => stdClass::__set_state(array( 'headers' => array ( 'content-type' => 'text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"', 'content-transfer-encoding' => 'quoted-printable', ), 'ctype_primary' => 'text', )), ), ) I removed some non-essential data. I want to access the headers value (on the second line above) - simple: $data->headers I want to access the headers value (on the fourteenth line after the stdClass:: stuff) - how? How can I possibly access the values within the stdClass::__set_state section? I tried var_export($data->parts); but all I get is NULL

  Hi guys. I'm using an actionsciprt only project (under FlashDevelop) to load an .swf flex file built by another department of the company I work for. Using the follwing code: var mLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var mRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest('flexSWF.swf'); mLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onCompleteHandler); mLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, onProgressHandler); mLoader.load(mRequest); That worked fine until I wanted to use Flex's mx.managers.LayoutManager.   I have a file in a different folder I want to rename in perl, I was looking at a solution earlier that showed something like this: for (<backup.rar>) { my $file = $_; my $new = $_ 'backup'. @test .'.rar'; rename $file, $new or die "Error, can not rename $file as $new: $!"; } however backup.rar is in a different folder, I did try putting "C:\backup\backup.rar" in the < above, however I got the same error. C:\Program Files\WinRARperl backup.pl String found where operator expected at backup.pl line 35, near "$_ 'backup'" (Missing operator before 'backup'?) syntax error at backup.pl line 35, near "$_ 'backup'" Execution of backup.pl aborted due to compilation errors. I was using # Get time my @test = POSIX::strftime("%m-%d-%Y--%H-%M-%S\n", localtime); print @test; To get the current time, however I couldn't seem to get it to rename correctly. What can I do to fix this? Please note I am doing this on a windows box.

I would like to integrate an Iython console in a Widget, so that I could interact easily with these data. I had some difficulties with Ipython 0.13 to do this. Here is what I already have (The whole code is very long, so I just show the part containing the widget, the Ipython console and the corresponding import line, if you need more, just tell me): ##I load everything useful to my application, including the following line from IPython.frontend.qt.console.qtconsoleapp import IPythonQtConsoleApp ##then is my whole software ##here is a class containing the Graphical User Interface elements. I tried different solution with no success either.
