  • Will the URL /nosuchpage get routed via my ASP.NET MVC application?

    [I'm trying to figure out the reason why I'm having another problem, and this question is part of the puzzle.] I have an MVC 2 website that has routing set up so that URLs such as /Customer/23/Order/47 get handled by various controllers. I do not have a rule that would match, for example, /nosuchpage and in my Cassini environment a request for that URL will trigger my Application_Error code, which lets me log the error and show a friendly response. However, when I deployed this website on IIS7 using integrated mode, my Application_Error is not triggered, and IIS shows its own 404 message. No matter what I've tried, I can't get Application_Error to fire. Now I'm thinking: is the reason it doesn't fire because the request is not getting routed via my application? Either because I didn't explicitly set up a catch-all route, or because the file-extension fools it into thinking it should use the "static file handler" (whatever that is)? Should I expect my Application_Error to be invoked?

  • What threading analysis tools do you recommend?

    My primary IDE is Visual Studio 2005 and I have a large C/C++ project. I'm interested in what thread analysis tools are recommended. By that I mean, I want a tool, static or dynamic, to help find race conditions, deadlocks, and the like. So far I've casually researched the following: 1. Intel Thread Checker: I don't believe that it ties into VS 2005? 2. Valgrind/Helgrind: free. 3. Coverity: this is a costly tool if i understand correctly. Anyone have experience with any of these or other? I'd much appreciate any advice. Thank you.

  • How do I implement a fibonacci sequence in java using try/catch logic?

    I know how to do it using simple recursion, but in order to complete this particular assignment I need to be able to accumulate on the stack and throw an exception that holds the answer in it. So far I have: public static int fibo(int index) { int sum = 0; try { fibo_aux(index, 1, 1); } catch (IntegerException me) { sum = me.getIntValue(); } return sum; } fibo_aux is supposed to throw an IntegerException (which holds the value of the answer that is retireved via getIntValue) and accumulates the answer on the stack, but so far I can't figure it out.   • iPhone Map: Identifying Users Location

    I have a number of annotations on my map, in addition to the users current location. This works fine, except the default color for the users current location is the same as all of the other annotations. I'd like to make the pin green for the users current location so that it's uniquely identifiable from the other pins. How do I do this?   • Is there a lightweight multipart/form-data parser in C or C++?

    I'm looking at integrating multipart form-data parsing in a web server module so that I can relieve backend web applications (often written in dynamic languages) from parsing the multipart data themselves. The multipart grammar (RFC 2046) looks non-trivial and if I implement it by hand a lot of things can go wrong. Is there already a good, lightweight multipart/form-data parser written in C or C++? I'm looking for one with no external dependencies other than the C or C++ standard library. I don't need email attachment handling or buffered I/O classes or a portability runtime or whatever, just multipart/form-data parsing. Things that I've considered: GMime - depends on glib, so no go. libapreq - too large, depends on APR, badly documented, no unit tests. I've also looked at writing a parser with Ragel, but I can't figure out how to do it because the grammar is not static: the boundary can change arbitrarily.

  • How do I customize what a third party MSM does?

    I'm trying to convert a project in Visual Studio 2008 from static linking of the CRT to dynamic linking. This was easy enough, and I added the CRT MSM and policy MSM to my Wix file with no problems. I am not that happy with the MSI that is output though, it is much larger than what I expected. Looking at the MSI with Orca shows three copies of the CRT DLLs that I need. From looking at the conditions, one of the sets is used for pre-XP installs. Since the system requirements are XP and later, how do I remove this component without touching the original MSM? This needs to be done in an automated build, so Orca isn't a possible solution. Plus, when I tried it with Orca, the filesize remained the same after deleting the File and Component rows. And somewhat related, how do I set the permanent attribute in the components that remain?

    This is me going right back to basics with TDD for learning purposes. I originally implemented Person.Surname as field of type object (the simplest possible way of passing the test. I then added a test setting Person.Surname stating that the return value should be a string and set Person.Surname=20. I 'fixed' the test by changing the implementation to use string rather than object. The test now long compiles due to static type checking, so I commented it out. So I'm left with no way of leaving my intention in the test. Is there a way of having a failing test in this circumstance?

    I am just messing around with reading input files with java until I got stumped at the most basic of steps... finding the input file! The input.txt file is in the same directory as my class file that is calling it yet eclipse still gives me an error that it cant be found: "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problem: Unhandled exception type FileNotFoundException" My code: package pa; import java.util.Scanner; public class Project { public static void main(String[] args) { java.io.File file = new java.io.File("input.txt"); System.out.println(file.getAbsolutePath()); Scanner input = new Scanner(file); } } input.txt is in the same package, same folder and everything.     Scenario: I am parsing values from an XML file using C# and have the following method: private static string GetXMLNodeValue(XmlNode basenode, string strNodePath) { if (basenode.SelectSingleNode(strNodePath) != null) return (basenode.SelectSingleNode(strNodePath).InnerText); else return String.Empty; } To get a particular value from the XML file, I generally pass the root node and a path like "parentnode/item" I recently ran into an issue where two nodes at the same document level share the same name. Question: What is the best way to get the values for duplicate-named nodes distinctly? My thought was to load all values matching the node name into an array and then using the array index to refer to them. I'm not sure how to implement that, though. (I'm not well-versed in XML navigation.)

    I'm writing a fairly uncomplicated program which can "connect" to several different types of data sources including text files and various databases. I've decided to implement each of these connection types as a class inherited from an interface I called iConnection. So, for example, I have TextConnection, MySQLConnection, &c... as classes. In another static class I've got a dictionary with human-readable names for these connections as keys. For the value of each dictionary entry, I want the class itself. That way, I can do things like: newConnection = new dict[connectionTypeString](); Is there a way to do something like this? I'm fairly new to C# so I'd appreciate any help.

    In Java, the standard idiom for logging is to create a static variable for a logger object and use that in the various methods. In Scala, it looks like the idiom is to create a Logging trait with a logger member and mixin the trait in concrete classes. This means that each time an object is created it calls the logging framework to get a logger and also the object is bigger due to the additional reference. Is there an alternative that allows the ease of use of "with Logging" while still using a per-class logger instance? EDIT: My question is not about how one can write a logging framework in Scala, but rather how to use an existing one (log4j) without incurring an overhead of performance (getting a reference for each instance) or code complexity. Also, yes, I want to use log4j, simply because I'll use 3rd party libraries written in Java that are likely to use log4j.

    I am trying to benchmark some code. I am sending a String msg over sockets. I want to send 100KB, 2MB, and 10MB String variables. Is there an easy way to create a variable of these sizes?   • What is a read only collection in C#?

    I ran a security code analyst i found myself having a CA2105 warning. I looked at the grade tampering example. I didnt realize you can assign int[] to a readonly int. I thought readonly was like the C++ const and makes it illegal. The How to Fix Violations suggest i clone the object (which i dont want to do) or 'Replace the array with a strongly typed collection that cannot be changed'. I clicked the link and see 'ArrayList' and adding each element one by one and it doesnt look like you can prevent something adding more.   • C# 'is' type check on struct - odd .NET 4.0 x86 optimization behavior

    Since upgrading to VS2010 I'm getting some very strange behavior with the 'is' keyword. The program below (test.cs) outputs True when compiled in debug mode (for x86) and False when compiled with optimizations on (for x86). Compiling all combinations in x64 or AnyCPU gives the expected result, True. All combinations of compiling under .NET 3.5 give the expected result, True. I'm using the batch file below (runtest.bat) to compile and test the code using various combinations of compiler .NET framework. Has anyone else seen these kind of problems under .NET 4.0? Does everyone else see the same behavior as me on their computer when running runtests.bat? #@$@#$??   • Creating many new instances vs reusing them?

    I have multiple business entities in VB.NET Windows Forms application. Right now they are instanced on application startup and used when needed. They hold descriptions of business entities and methods for storing and retrieving data. To cut the long story short, they are somewhat heavy objects to construct (they have some internal dictionaries and references to other objects) created and held in one big global variable called "BLogic". Should I refactor this so that each object is created when needed and released when out of scope? Then every event on UI will probably create a few of this objects. Should I strive to minimize creation of new objects or to minimize number of static and global objects? Generally I am trying to minimize the scope of every variable but should I treat this business logic objects specially?
