    I just started with the connectivity and tried this example. I have installed the necessary softwares.     I have a bunch of functions which are currently overloaded to operate on int and string: bool foo(int); bool foo(string); bool bar(int); bool bar(string); void baz(int p); void baz(string p); I then have a bunch of functions taking 1, 2, 3, or 4 arguments of either int or string, which call the aforementioned functions: void g(int p1) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); } void g(string p1) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); } void g(int p2, int p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(int p2, string p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(string p2, int p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(string p2, string p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } // etc. (The implementation of the g() family is just a placeholder. actually they are more complicated.) More types than the current int or string might have to be introduced at any time. The same goes for functions with more arguments than 4. The current number of identical functions is barely manageable. Add one more variant in either dimension and the combinatoric explosion will be so huge, it might blow away the application. In C++, I'd templatize g() and be done. I understand that .NET generics are different. <sigh> But I have been fighting them for two hours trying to come up with a solution that doesn't involve too much copy&paste of code. To no avail. Surely, C#/.NET/generics/whatever won't require me to type out identical code for a family of functions taking five arguments of either of three types? So what am I missing here?

    Hello, I have a cmd command that needs to be executed, when the command starts it starts to fill a progressbar. When the cmd command is done the progressbar needs to fill up to 100. This is the code i use, but it gives me an error when the progressbar.Value = 100 comes up. Public Class Form1 Dim teller As Integer Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TimerProgressbar.Tick teller += 1 ProgressBar1.Value = teller If ProgressBar1.Value = ProgressBar1.Maximum Then TimerProgressbar.Stop() End If End Sub This are the tow commands in another private sub where the app is crashing on ProgressBar1.Value = 100 TimerProgressbar.Stop() When i debug it and i try it out it crashes on ProgressBar1.Value = 100 But when i build it under Windows 7 it runs fine without crashing, however a few people reported me it crashes on there Windows xp system. VB gives me a suggestions about Cross Thread, but i don't know how i could make it work with this.

  • Getting the first result from a LINQ query - why does ElementAt<T>(0) fails when First<T>() succeeds

    I have a method AddStudent() which looks for a student with the same name and returns an existing student from the database if there is a student with the same name, otherwise it creates a new student and adds it to the database. I'm curious why se = students.First<StudentEntity>(); succeeds when se = students.ElementAt<StudentEntity>(0); fails when I try to get the first result from the LINQ query. Aren't the two methods the same?     What's a good way to implement mutable data structures in F#? The reason I’m asking is because I want to go back and implement the data structures I learned about in the algorithms class I took this semester (skip lists, splay trees, fusion trees, y-fast tries, van Emde Boas trees, etc.), which was a pure theory course with no coding whatsoever, and I figure I might as well try to learn F# while I’m doing it. I know that I “should” use finger trees to get splay tree functionality in a functional language, and that I should do something with laziness to get skip-list functionality, etc. , but I want to get the basics nailed down before I try playing with purely functional implementations. There are lots of examples of how to do functional data structures in F#, but there isn’t much on how to do mutable data structures, so I started by fixing up the doubly linked list here into something that allows inserts and deletes anywhere. My plan is to turn this into a skip list, and then use a similar structure (discriminated union of a record) for the tree structures I want to implement. Before I start on something more substantial, is there a better way to do mutable structures like this in F#? Should I just use records and not bother with the discriminated union? Should I use a class instead? Is this question "not even wrong"? Should I be doing the mutable structures in C#, and not dip into F# until I want to compare them to their purely functional counterparts? And, if a DU of records is what I want, could I have written the code below better or more idiomatically? At the moment I'd like it to output something like [[20,44], 10, 4], but when I tree.appendLeft(tree2) I get RuntimeError: maximum recursion depth exceeded, and when i even won't appendLeft(tree2) it outputs [10, 20, 44, 4] (!!!). What am I missing here? I'm using Portable Python 3.0.1. Thank you
