• Linux find/search root partition ONLY?

  Say I need to do: find / -name somefile.txt and say root partition / is mounted on /dev/sda5; however, let's say I also have 250GB partitions (/dev/sda6, /dev/sda7) mounted in /media - AND another location that I cannot currently remember. Say, also, that I know the file I'm looking for is on /dev/sda5. Obviously, the above command will also descend in /media and that other directory which represent the big partitions, wasting time in looking for the file in the wrong place. Is there a way to instruct find (or other command) to search only / on /dev/sda5, and NOT to descend to directories if they are on different partitions ? Thanks, Cheers!

• Vim: How can I :cd to an sftp directory?

  Hi, I'm currently an emacs user, but thought I would come back and take another look at Vim for fun. My client machine is Ubuntu, and I frequently work on other ubuntu servers within my network, emacs and tramp is really nice in this regard, I can just connect to a file via sftp and then easily navigate to it's parents/children/sibling, just as if I was dealing with a file on the local file system. With Vim I can sftp to a file, but none of the navigation stuff works, when I use :e or fuzzy file search, vim still thinks I'm back on the client machine. If I try to :cd to the sftp directory I get an error. Is there anyway I can get the same file/folder navigation regardless of whether I'm looking at an sftp folder or a folder on my client machine?   Hi Is there a proxy software for Windows XP that can support HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, IMAP, POP, FTP, etc. (the more the better)? We tried apache mod_proxy but FTP doesn't work through it (at least not all features). Maybe we don't need proxy server for following requirements (we are open for suggestions): - Centralized access point to internet for several users (proxy server?) - Users use Browser (firefox/IE - HTTP, HTTPS), Outlook (SMTP, POP, IMAP) - Logs to see where did users go on internet - Possiblity to connect to FTP server Windows xp, which is used as proxy server, is a virtual machine, and all other users/clients are virtual machines as well (Hyper-V)... • OS X Server: SMTP Server problem

  Hi, I have problem to setup my mail server. My system is a OS X 10.6.2. Server. I configured the mail server so far, but I cannot connect to the smtp server correctly. Correctly means that I can connect via telnet (and do the "HELO") from another server within the same serverrack, but not from outside. But when I try to telnet my http server, it works fine from outside. I already checked my firewall rules with "sudo ipfw list" and the port 25 is not blocked in any case. What could be the problem with connecting to port 25 via telnet from outside of the serverrack? Cheers

• Vista Home Premium won't upload

  Hi, I have a sony vaio laptop(VGN-FW31J) running windows Vista Home Premium . I've had it over a year and file upload in a browser has never worked on any website in any browser(IE, Firefox, Chrome). I can select a file and the upload starts running but I always get a timeout. Sometimes it has worked once out of many attempts but only if the file is very small( < 50k). FTP does work. I've tried the following: Disabling anti virus Disabling firewall Can anyone help me here? i'm wondering if this is a vista problem or a vaio problem. Cheers

• Red Hat Kickstart: How do I Prevent partitioning?

  Hey all, I'm currently working on a new virtualisation setup using Xen, and Centos for my workplace. We intend to deploy the domUs into LVM volumes. Currently, the only thing preventing this from working as smoothly as we'd like is the Kickstart script's insistence on partitioning. This is the relevant part from our current KS template (which I've been messing with): # Partitioning clearpart --all --initlabel --drives=xvda part / --size=0 --grow --ondisk=xvda --fstype=ext3 This sets up a single partition and installs to it - which would be fine, but I'd prefer if there were no partitions, and installed directly to the existing LVM (so that we could then mount the LVM from the dom0 for backup and maintenance purposes). It's possible I'm doing something wrong, and should be exporting the volume as xvda1 rather than xvda - which I'm more than happy to amend - but I'm still not sure how I'd navigate the Kickstart! I'd really appreciate any help :). Cheers in advance!

• PHPMyAdmin running very slow over internet but fine locally

  I connect to PHPMyAdmin remotely on a Centos server using my local PC via Firefox. Usually it's fine but today it's really slow (2 minutes to load a page), sometimes timing out. Other connections to the server are fine. The SSH command line is as fast as ever as is the GNOME dekstop over SSH. In fact on the GNOME desktop I can run PHPMyAdmin locally from its browser and it's as quick as ever (which is a solution to the problem of course). I've checked the various log files and seen nothing unusual, I've logged into the MySQL command line and the database is running fine without any slowing what so ever. So it just seems to be slow when I access PHPMyAdmin on the server from the browser on my remote PC (I've tried IE and Firefox, both are slow). Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas what the issue could be. Connecting via CLI through tunnel works OK - problem is in phpMyAdmin for sure. Cheers

• SSL on Apache seems to significantly affect WebDAV performace

  I'm using Apache 2.2 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 as a WebDAV server for clients to upload large media files (roughly 100-2000MB). I am finding that when I have SSL enabled (openSSL 0.9.8o) and use HTTPS for the uploads the throughput is around 13Mbps but when I disable it and just use HTTP I get around 80Mbps. I can't understand why this is happening as my understanding was that the heavy SSL work was done at the beginning of the connection. Does anyone have any idea why the performance is so drastically affected by enabling SSL? Cheers.

• Ubuntu in Virtualbox - web server very slow when using local IP address

  I'm using Ubuntu (Lucid Lynx) to learn Ruby On Rails. I'm running Ubuntu in VirtualBox (the host is Windows 7 Ultimate), using bridged networking. When I run my Rails app and point the browser at it using localhost:3000, the app responds immediately and my page is rendered in a second or two. However, if I use 10.0.0.5:3000 (where 10.0.0.5 is my IP address reported using ifconfig), the response from my rails app is incredibly slow - maybe 30 seconds or more for the server to respond and render the page. This happens in both Firefox and Chrome. Also, when I hit the Rails app from the host (to test it in IE), I get the same slooooooow response. Any ideas what might be going on? I've tried it with two different routers, and on two different networks (work and home) with the same result. Cheers all.

  Hi, I just created an FTP connection in Aptana in which I made a mistake. I told Aptana to remember it anyway while I looked up the correct data (user/password and such). Now I want to edit the FTP connection but as soon as I click it tries to connect which results in an error. If I try to delete it, same story, it tries to connect and I get the error and the delete doesn't go through. So, I have a non working FTP connection that I can't delete nor edit.How do I get rid of this thing? Or how do I correct it? Cheers.

• Can you downmix Windows 7 sound to mono?

  I need my Windows 7 64 bit machine to output mono downmixed sound. Downmixed, not just single channel (I'm deaf in one ear). Is there any possibility to force such behavior. I'm looking for a software solution to mix two channels into one. I know that some media players have this functionality, but I'd like the whole system (ie games, flash applications, etc) to produce downmixed audio. This error is based mostly on mobile devices, mostly on iPhones and mostly on mobile networks. This is how much I have narrowed it to. I believe: Hotmail checks where your are connecting from If it is a mobile network it requires additional security for sending messages but the default iPhone config does not have this option for hotmail if the user creates the hotmail account on the iPhone with SMTP AUTH enabled manually it might solve the situation Cheers, Tony

• Booting an EXT4 image file from GRUB2

  My friend needed a fast HDD so I gave her my small 64GB SDD. This SSD had my Linux install on it. I used dd to make an image of the partition (boot, root and home on one partition). This partition is now sitting on a traditional 500GB EXT4 formatted drive. Is there any way I can get GRUB to just boot using this .img file I have? I'm not getting my SSD back and I can't be bothered to go through the hassle of setting up my Linux install from scratch. I have come across loopback support in GRUB for ISO images. Does this support EXT4 also? I don't seem to be able to find anything specific and don't want to trash anything. Cheers.

• Shrink NTFS Partition Windows 2003

  We have an iSCSI target provided by a CentOS server attached to a Windows Server 2003 Standard box, formatted in NTFS. My question is this - I know we can resize the backend block device fine (LVM et al.), however how do you tell Windows the NTFS filesystem has shrunk afterwards? [note we want to shrink]. I'm imagining a world of pain if it's not done correctly! This is a production box, so ideally we'd like the process to keep the drive mounted and online during the process, but downtime can be scheduled if need be. 90% of what I've found on the subject so far basically involves using the 'ntfsresize' command in Linux to do the job -- but surely Windows can do this itself?   i want to have 2 partitions. one is called system. the other is private. in the private partition i've got some folders i want to mount into system as system folders. folders in private: - www - home mount points in system: - /var/www - /home is this possible? cause it seems that you can only specify a whole partition to use for a mount point and not a folder in a partition or am i wrong? i run ubuntu server. cheers

  Hi All I have a ssl certificate for Exchange which has been installed on IIS for OWA but in order for this certificate to be presented to the user when they login, i.e. visit OWA, it has to be installed also on the ISA server. This is where I have become stuck. I have installed the certificate in the Personal section, but when I go to point the web listener to the ssl certificate it is never in the list. I would like a system that can monitor these emails and provide an SMS or other alert when: An email indicates failure. A process that was expected to complete by a given time has not. • Dialog boxes font is missing in Windows 7

  About 3 years ago I messed up my laptop with some virus removal software. It's obviously changed the registry settings and the text in dialogue boxes in the control panel, run box, etc. is the wrong size. See image:http://i.stack.imgur.com/SlFFU.jpg I've tried changing the MS Shell Dlg registry values to different fonts and restarting. I've made sure that I have the fonts SSERIFE.FON and SERIFE.FON on my system and that they are correctly referenced in the registry. Does anyone know how to fix this? • Computer restarts infinitely after Bios/Motherboard screen

  Like every morning I turn on my computer (which is kinda new and only couple months old) and I never had any issue with it until now. It starts booting, shows that very first screen which has some motherboard picture and stuff and then it show which buttons to press to enter BIOS and etc. Then it suddenly restarted and after that just kept restarting every 3-5 seconds forever. What could that be? I unplugged power cable, checked all the cables, moved a case, it had some wires stuck under it, blew some dust (but didn't open the case yet) and I tried to boot again and it booted successfully and I am writing this issue now. My specs: i3-3220 3.30Ghz 8GB DDR3 RAM 1TB HDD GeForce GTX 650 Windows 8 x64 I also recently upgraded my security software (that's the most recent thing I did) and it includes ZoneAlarm firewall, Comodo Antivirus and Spybot Search & Destroy. But maybe it doesn't have anything to do with this. Cheers

• Can't delete profile

  Hi All, I have a client machine (XP SP3) which used to be connected to a windows 2003 domain, but the server has since gone down due to a hard drive failure, however the profiles still remain in 'documents and settings'. I have a local admin account on the same machine (in the administrator's group), except when i try to remove the profiles manually from System Properties - Advanced - User Profiles - Settings, the delete button is disabled. Also, Windows prevents me from deleting or renaming the user's profile folder as well, due to a lock with ntuser.dat Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

• ssh login with multi-keys (several users) from the same workstation

  Basically, as it comes from the title, I'd like to login from my workstation to a SSH server by using different account in different shells. What I'd like to do is to backup all my account from this server to my hard drive by using rsync, but as you know rsync can get a connection if the keys have been generated. I have already an account set with key for login without pass. What I did was to generate a key on the server and then download it on my ~/.ssh folder. I tried it with another account and I chanced the name of the key. Then I download it in my ~/.ssh...but no way to get it work. I am not an expert of this stuff. If you would provide any tips or way to set it up I would really appreciate your help. Cheers
