  • Which technology should I use to pop up a simple form in my add-in DLL?

    I'm building an assembly that runs as an "add-on" to a vendor's Outlook add-in. When it is time for me to execute my "action", I have to put up a simple window with a few simple controls. The vendor's add-in provides me with the parent window's integer handle. I am able to put up a form pretty easily with WinForms by adding are reference to System.Windows.Forms from my assembly and with the following code: FrmHistoryDisplay frm = new FrmHistoryDisplay(); frm.ShowDialog(new ParentWindowWrapper(_parentWindowHandle)); where ParentWindowWrapper is a shim class around the window handle I'm given private class ParentWindowWrapper : IWin32Window { private int _parentWindowHandle; public ParentWindowWrapper(int parentWindowHandle) { _parentWindowHandle = parentWindowHandle; } public IntPtr Handle { get { return new IntPtr(_parentWindowHandle); } } } The Form's ShowDialog method takes an IWin32Window implementor to wrap the parent's window handle. This all works and seems simple enough. I was just wondering whether something similar can be done with a WPF window rather than a WinForm Form? Should I care?

  • How can I avoid "Your system is running low on virtual memory" pop-up?

    Our application sometimes uses a lot of memory, and this is expected. But when we test it under high load on Windows XP, we usually get the very annoying "Your system is running low on virtual memory" popup, and this prevents our automated, unattended, tests to run through... Is it possible to prevent this popup to appear, and just have the allocation fail? The app will handle it gracefully, and tests will go on... We are using Windows XP, but if a solution only exists on later versions, I'd be happy to know anyway.

  • How do I have my apps dialog box pop up and take focus from the current running app?

    I know this type of thing is looked negatively upon but I write software for people with disabilities and sometimes good gui practices don't make sense. In this case, the user interacts with a assistive interface and under certain conditions, my control app needs to prompt the user with a question. My background process creates a dialog (I'm using wxwidgets wxDialog class) and calls Show(). The dialog box appears but it does not have focus (the application that the user was previously using keeps it). Since my users can't use mice, they can't simply click on the window. I've tried calling show and then followed by SetFocus(HWND) but that doesn't do it. What's the problem? Is this even possible? Window7. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with it being a dialog and not a full window (wxFrame). Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to get mailing to work in PHP and I've root caused it down to sendmail's complaint about "Name server timeout": >sendmail -t -v >From: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >. gmail.com: Name server timeout [email protected]... Transient parse error -- message queued for future delivery [email protected]... queued So it sounds like a DNS issue? But I can do a "dig mx gmail.com" and it will query successfully. Here's what confuses me... I can get sendmail to work two other ways. The first way is through telnet: >telnet 127.0.0.1 25 >Helo me >Mail from: [email protected] >Rcpt to: [email protected] >. message sent And the second way is by explicitly appending the sendmail.cf, but this is strange because it's the exact same file I use to configure sendmail to begin with: >sendmail -t -v -C/etc/mail/sendmail.cf But none of these solutions will resolve my PHP mailing... Any new folders (labels) created in Gmail will sync to the client and any folders moved/changed/deleted folders in Gmail will move/change/delete on the client as well. (Note: Thunderbird has the concept of "subscribing" to IMAP folders (assumingly allowing you to determine which folders you want, rather than bringing all of them down and dragging loads of data across the wire). When used against Gmail, Thunderbird appears to automatically subscribe to all folders (including when folders are newly created in Gmail), so this might be why the refresh is happening properly.) This behavior is what I want with Exchange. When using Thunderbird with Exchange (2007), the folder list doesn't refresh when folders are added/changed/deleted on the server and/or from a different mail client. When I look at the subscription options, some are checked and some are not (not sure why Thunderbird picked some and not others). If I press cancel, I sometimes get a http 407 error, but on other occasions I click cancel the website proceeds to download and show normally. This is repeatable with some clients running through my proxy server, but in other cases it does not happen at all. In the cases where a client computer works normally, the only difference I can see is that the 3rd request for SSL resource comes back with a 200 response, see below: CONNECT gmail.google.com:443 HTTP/1.0 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/5.0; MALC) Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Length: 0 Host: gmail.google.com Pragma: no-cache Proxy-Authorization: NTLM TlRMTVNTUAADAAAAGAAYAIAAAA A SSLv3-compatible ClientHello handshake was found. I have tried resetting user accounts as well as computer accounts in Active Directory. User accounts and passwords that are being used are correct and the passwords have been reset so they are not out of sync. I have removed the clients and even the proxy server from the domain, and rejoined them. I have installed a complete separate proxy server and get exactly the same problem when I point clients to a different proxy server on a different IP address.

    I'm using a script in Conky in order to display my new gmail on my desktop. It works beautifully, but is kind of ugly, and I'm not sure how to fix it.
