• What is wrong with the JavaScript event handling in this example? (Using click() and hover() jQuery

  I'm working on a sort of proof-of-concept for a project that approximates Firebug's inspector tool. For more details, please see this related question. Here is the example page. I've only tested it in Firefox: http://troy.onespot.com/static/highlight.html The idea is that, when you're mousing over any element that can contain text, it should "highlight" with a light gray background to indicate the boundaries of that element. When you then click on the element, it should alert() a CSS selector that matches it. This is somewhat working in the example linked above. However, there's one fundamental problem. When mousing over from the top of the page to the bottom, it will pick up the paragraphs, <h1> element, etc. But, it doesn't get the <div>s that encompass those paragraphs. However, for example, if you "sneak up" on the <div> that contains the two paragraphs "The area was settled..." and "Austin was selected..." from the left - tracing down the left edge of the page and entering the <div> just between the two paragraphs (see this screenshot) - then it is picked up. I assume this has something to do with the fact that I haven't attached an event handler to the <body> element (where you're entering the <div> from if you enter from the left), but I have attached handlers to the <p>s (where you're entering from if you come from the top or bottom). There are also other issues with mousing in and out elements - background colors that "stick" and the like - that I think are also related. As indicated in the related question posted above, I suspect there is something about event bubbling that I don't understand that is causing unexpected behavior. Can anyone spot what's wrong with my code? Thanks in advance for any help!

  Hi all, I have a HGroup with some buttons inside which is my application's menu. <s:HGroup id="nav"> <s:Button id="homeButton" label="Home" /> <s:Button id="showroomButton" label="Showroom" /> <s:Button label="Catalogue" /> <s:Button label="Offers" /> <s:Button label="My Account" /> <s:Button label="My Orders" /> </s:HGroup> What I want is when I click for example the #homeButton to change it's state to "over", become disabled and reset all other buttons to the "up" state. I've written this function private function resetNavState():void { for(var i:int = 0,ii:int = nav.numChildren-1;i<ii;i++) { Button(nav.getChildAt(i)).mouseEnabled = true; Button(nav.getChildAt(i)).skin.setCurrentState("up",true); } } And then on the homeButton click handler for example i use protected function homeButton_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { resetNavState(); currentState = "home"; homeButton.skin.setCurrentState("over",true); homeButton.mouseEnabled = false; } I resets the states of the #nav buttons but it doesn't change the state of the pressed button.   While bouncing around StackOverflow, I've noticed a number of people attaching events (notably click events) to the document as opposed to the elements themselves. Example: Given this: <button id="myButton">CLICK ME</button> Instead of writing this (using jQuery just for brevity): $('#myButton').on('click', function() { ... }); They do this: $(document).on('click', function() { ... }); And then presumably use event.target to drill down to the element that was actually clicked. Are there any gains/advantages in capturing events at the document level instead of at the element level?

  Before I delve into it, I'm very new to Android and I have just started learning Java last month. I've hit bumps while trying to develop my first simple app. Most of these hurdles were jumped thanks to random tutorials online. MY CODE IS VERY MESSY. Any tips are appreciated. The question above is quite broad, but this is what I want to do: It's a essentially a blood alcohol content calculator / drink keeper-tracker. The other variables in the Bac formula have values assigned to them in Global.java. This is the Bac value for if StandardDrinks was still 0, so obviously there is some problem communicating between the classes. Can anyone help me?? The other elements of the formula (weight, time spent drinking, and the alcohol %'s and such) are variables because I will ultimately allow the user to change those values in the settings. I've heard around the water cooler that global variables are not good programming style, but this is the closest I've come to getting it to work. Any other ways of doing it are very much welcomed!

  How can I set a fixed width for an Android button? Everytime I try to set a fixed width it fills the current parent (the RelativeView). • Modify the Event Log Source name for an SSIS package

  I have an SQL Server integration Services (SSIS) package using the standard Event Log provider (yes, the event log! I know we can use SQL etc...) The default "Source" of the log events is "SQLISPackage100" but I want it to be something like "AppName" so that the errors are more visible between the different packages when viewing the event log (also for MOM use). Event Type: Error Event Source: SQLISPackage100 Event Category: None ... Description: Package "Foo" failed. I hope the answer is simple, I simply cannot find it, but does anyone know how to change the text of the Event Log Source name to something more meaningful? PK :-)

• Tree item edit event listener in flex

  I want to catch itemEditEnd in a tree control, but i'm having a little trouble. I call the item editing a bit different: <mx:Tree id="tree" width="100%" height="100%" itemDoubleClick="treeProjects_itemDoubleClickHandler(event)" doubleClickEnabled="true" editable="true" itemEditBeginning="treeProjects_itemEditBeginingHandler(event)" itemEditEnd="treeProjects_itemEditEndHandler(event)" > but: protected function treeProjects_itemEditBeginingHandler(event:ListEvent):void { event.preventDefault(); } i do this, because I want to edit the field just when clicking rename in the context menu. And when I click rename in the context menu, this is what i'm doing (contextParentItem is the event catched on itemRollOver in the tree) : Tree( contextParentItem.target ).editedItemPosition = { columnIndex: 0, rowIndex: contextParentItem.rowIndex }; Thisway I can't catch the itemEditEnd event, but I want to handle some stuff, like: if the new entered value is an empty string, then I don't want to accept the new value if I hit ESC then, the old value should remain.

• Lotus Notes doesn't send customised button

  Hi All, I created a customised button with some simple actions attached to it in Lotus Notes 6.5. It's just a simple voting button, which I emailed to a group of nearly 200 people. While sending I got a pop up telling me that the button can't be send. After about 10 seconds I got a first reply asking 'where's the button'. Then an avalanche of very clever emails followed, such as: 'no button', 'where's the button', etc. Before I spammed everyon I had tried the email on my work mate and the button went through fine! Any ideas? I suspect some security policy.... I really need to send this mail and get the survey results, so I don't want to fail again. Any suggestions appreciated. Many Thanks, Damo

• Disable the mouse click event of a button placed inside a listbox item

  I have a button placed inside a listbox item and i have style defined fro that button where i have two images and on mouse hover i change the image. Now the problem is I am handling the listbox mouse event and when click the button the listbox mouse event doesn't fires. I tried to make the property of button ishittestvisisble=false And now if i click on button the listbox mouse event fires but the problem is the two images placed inside the styling of button don't apply as they are the child of button and by default their ishittestvisible also turn out to be false. So any suggestion or idea will be helpfull ....tx in advance...

I want, when the user click on it, something visually would happen to let the user know that button is selected, and when the user click again it go back to the regular state.   I have an asp:TextBox with asp:RegularExpressionValidator to validate if it's a number. Obviously an onchange event will be attached to this textbox while rendering. But the .net js throws an error. I traced in the js: function ValidatorOnChange(event) { ... } and found that all of event.fromElement,event.toElement,event.srcElement are null which causes the exception. Did I do something wrong? • Silverlight: Creating a round button template

  I decided to try making a circular button, so using expression blend, I dropped a button control on my xaml. I then created a template from it by choosing "Edit Control Parts (Template)" - "Edit a Copy". I am trying to design it so that the left and right sides of the button were always perfect semi circles, so that no matter how tall or wide the button grew, the corner radius would max out at either half the width or half the length of the button, depending on which was smaller. That way, if the button was stretched tall, the top and buttom would be perfect half circles, and if the button was stretched wide, the left and right would be perfect half circles. Is it possible to do this?

  Dear All! I have a datagrid which contains bid and ask - prices for currency-symbols. The data is updated every seconds. I update the data by creating a new collection of my viewmodel-entities and bind this collection to the datagrid every second. The problem is: Because my datagrid contains a template-column with a button "buy", this button is also recreated every second!   I have a function which can be called by either a click event or directly. When I call it directly, I need pass it a data parameter, so I've defined the function to accept a parameter to account for the direct call with the parameter. function myFunc(param){ } Within the function, I need to differentiate whether the function was called directly or from the click event, so what I thought I could simply check if param is set. If it's set, then the function is called directly. If it's not set, then it's called from the click event. The problem is that a click event by default passes an event object. So even when the function is called by the click event, param won't be null. So is there a way to check whether the param passed is the click event?
