  Forbes company recently conducted a survey to figure out the world’s Billionaires list and has released it listing the top 20 names of the Billionaires. The company says that for the third time in the last three years the world has a new richest man for this year. So it means that Bill Gates was beaten up by someone else in world. Who is the new richest man in the world?   Forbes.Com announced the richest man in world and this time it is not Bill Gates. But it is Carlos Slim Helu who is into Telecom industry. Carlos lives in Mexico and he had the third richest man’s place last year. Having shown a Net worth of $ 53.5 Billion, Carlos has increased $18.5 Billion in a year. Carlos swooped on the privatization of Mexico’s national telephone service during the last decade and now has achieved the world’s first richest man.   Hi, Has anyone implemented a holiday workflow approval / tracking list in MOSS Sharepoint 2007? Can anyone suggests other solutions? The solution below works fine but I am specifically looking for a way to lookup manager of the user who created the holiday request list item in the workflow. I have followed this link http://www.u2u.info/Blogs/Kevin/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=39 which shows you how to create a custom workflow approval. Below are the steps outlined by the link. User add new holiday item to list Workflow kicks off Wf has the manager hardcoded (need a way to look this up, maybe from AD??) and creates a Task for them to review the request. If desired, this can include an email notification of the task Manager reviews, adds comments and approves/denies request User is notified of completed request Many Thanks, Naveen

  Hi all, I am trying to develop a J2ME application that could retrieve the google map by passing in the GPS coordinates. From http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/Google_Maps_API_in_Java_ME, it provides the Utility method for map scrolling. Basically it states that i need to include MicroFloat library in my project. Here's what i did (Not sure if i am doing it right) Create a project, build the code. Add the jar file into my current project lib. but i am still getting error from codes. Example double LToY(double y) { return Math.round( offset - radius * Double.longBitsToDouble(MicroDouble.log( Double.doubleToLongBits( (1 + Math.sin(Math.toRadians(y))) / (1 - Math.sin(Math.toRadians(y))) ) )) / 2); } Am i missing any import statment???   Hi, I am traditionally a Perl and C++ programmer, so apologies in advance if I am misunderstanding something trivial about Python! I would like to create a reference to a reference. Huh? Ok. All objects in Python are actually references to the real object. So, how do I create a reference to this reference? Why do I need/want this? I am overriding sys.stdout and sys.stderr to create a logging library. I would like a (second-level) reference to sys.stdout. If I could create a reference to a reference, then I could create a generic logger class where the init function receives a reference to a file handle reference that will be overrided, e.g., sys.stdout or sys.stderr.   I'm following the Kevin Skoglund tutorial Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training, which was written for rails 3.0, though I am currently using 3.2. It uses the following method in the pages_controller with a before_filter to display only the pages which belong to the parent subject. The tutorial explicitly uses .find_by_id because if the result is nil it "will not return an error". However I get the "Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id" error when trying to view a page where @subject has been set to nil. def find_subject if params[:subject_id] @subject = Subject.find_by_id(params[:subject_id]) end end The actual code that is causing the error is: def list @pages = Page.order("pages.position ASC").where(:subject_id => @subject.id) end Is this something that has changed since 3.0? If so, what would be the correct way to implement this functionality in 3.2?

  Hi, I have a class, let's say User adnotated with @XmlRootElement, with some properties (name, surname etc). I use this class for REST operations, as application/xml. The client will POST User class so i want to keep the values in the log. Is there any method in jax-ws to prints out this object as xml? • Informal Interviews: Just Relax (or Should I?)

  I was in our St Kilda Rd office last week and had the chance to meet up with Dan and David from GradConnection. I love what these guys are doing, their business has been around for two years and I really like how they have taken their own experiences from University found a niche in their market and have chased it. These guys are always networking. Whenever they come to Melbourne they send me a tweet to catch up, even though we often miss each other they are persistent. It sounds like their business is going from strength to strength and I have to think that success comes from their hard work and enthusiasm for their business. Anyway, before my meeting with ProGrad I noticed a tweet from Kevin Wheeler who was saying it was his last day in Melbourne - I sent him a message and we met up that afternoon for a coffee (I am getting to the point I promise). On my way back to the office after my meeting I was on a tram and was sitting beside a lady who was talking to her friend on her mobile. She had just come back from an interview and was telling her friend how laid back the meeting was and how she wasn't too sure of the next steps of the process as it was a really informal meeting. The recurring theme from this phone call was that 1) her and the interviewer got along really well and had a lot in common 2) the meeting was very informal and relaxed. I wasn't at the interview so I cannot say for certain, but in my experience regardless of the type of interview that is happening whether it is a relaxed interview at a coffee shop or a behavioural interview in an office setting one thing is consistent: the employer is assessing your ability to perform the role and fit into the company. Different interviewers I find have different interviewing styles. For example some interviewers may create a very relaxed environment in the thinking this will draw out less practiced answers and give a more realistic view of the person and their abilities while other interviewers may put the candidate "under the pump" to see how they react in a stressful situation. There are as many interviewing styles as there are interviewers. I think candidates regardless of the type of interview need to be professional and honest in both their skills/experiences, abilities and career plans (if you know what they are). Even though an interview may be informal, you shouldn't slip into complacency. You should not forget the end goal of the interview which is to get a job. Business happens outside of the office walls and while you may meet someone for a coffee it is still a business meeting no matter how relaxed the setting. You don't need to be stick in the mud and not let your personality shine through, but that first impression you make may play a big part in how far in the interview process you go. • Ann Arbor Day of .NET 2010 Recap

  Had a great time at the Ann Arbor Day of .NET on Saturday.  Lots of great speakers and topics.  And chance to meet up with friends you usually only communicate with via email/twitter. My Presentation I presented "Getting up to speed with C# 3.5 — Just in time for 4.0!".  There's still a lot of devs that are either stuck in .NET 2.0 or just now moving to .NET 3.5.  This presentation gave highlights of a lot of the key features of 3.5.  I had great questions from the audience.  Afterwards, I talked with a few people who are just now getting in to 3.5 and they told me they had a lot of "A HA!" moments when something I said finally clicked and made sense from a code sample they had seen on the web.  Thanks to all who attended! A few people have asked me for the slides and demo.  The slides were nothing more than a table of contents.  90% of the presentation was spent inside Visual Studio demo'ing new techniques.  However, I have included it in the ZIP file with the sample solution.  You can download it here. Dennis Burton on MongoDB I caught Dennis Burton's presentation on MongoDB.  I was really interested in this one as I've missed the last few times Dennis had given it to local user groups.  It was very informative and I want to spend some time learning more about MongoDB.  I'm still an old-school relational guy, but I'm willing to investigate alternatives. Brian Genisio on Prism Since I'm not a Silverlight/WPF guy (yet), I wasn't sure this would interest me.  But I talked with Brian for a couple of minutes before the presentation and he convinced me to catch it.  And I'm glad he did.  Prism looks like a very nice framework for "composable UI's" in Silverlight and WPF.  I like the whole "dependency injection" feel to it.  Nice job Brian! GiveCamp Planning I spent some time Saturday working on things for the upcoming GiveCamp (which is why I only caught a few sessions).  Ann Arbor's Day of .NET and GiveCamp have both been held at Washtenaw Community College so I took some time (along with fellow GiveCamp planners Mike Eaton and John Hopkins) to check out the new location for Ann Arbor GiveCamp this year! In the past, WCC has let us use the Business Education (BE) building for our GiveCamp's.  But this year, they're moving us over to the Morris Lawrence (ML) building.  Let me tell you – this is a step UP!  In the BE building, we were spread across two floors and spread out into classrooms.  Plus, our opening and closing ceremonies were held in the Liberal Arts (LA) building – a bit of a walk from the BE building. In the ML building, we're together for the whole weekend.  We've got a large open area (which can be sectioned off if needed) for everyone to work in:   Right next to that, we have a large area where we can set up tables and eat.  And it helps that we have a wonderful view while eating (yes, that's a lake out there with a fountain): The ML building also has showers (which we'll have access to!) and it's own auditorium for our opening and closing ceremonies. • OrbitFX: JavaFX 8 3D & NetBeans Platform in Space!

  Here is a collection of screenshots from a proof of concept tool being developed by Nickolas Sabey and Sean Phillips from a.i. solutions. Before going further, read a great new article here written on java.net by Kevin Farnham, in light of the Duke's Choice Award (DCA) recently received at JavaOne 2013 by the a.i. solutions team. Here's Sean receiving the award on behalf of the a.i. solutions team, surrounded by the DCA selection committee and other officials: They won the DCA for helping facilitate and deploy the 2014 launch of NASA's Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, using JDK 7, the NetBeans Platform, and JavaFX to create the GEONS Ground Support System, helping reduce software development time by approximately 35%. The prototype tool that Nicklas and Sean are now working on uses JavaFX 3D with the NetBeans Platform and is nicknamed OrbitFX. Much of the early development is being done to experiment with different patterns, so that accuracy is currently not the goal. For example, you'll notice in the screenshots that the Earth is really close to the Sun, which is obviously not correct. The screenshots are generated using Java 8 build 111, together with NetBeans Platform 7.4. Inspired by various JavaOne demos using JavaFX 3D, Nick began development integrating them into their existing NetBeans Platform infrastructure. The 3D scene showing the Sun and Earth objects is all JavaFX 8 3D, demonstrating the use of Phong Material support, along with multiple light and camera objects. Each JavaFX component extends a JFXPanel type, so that each can easily be added to NetBeans Platform TopComponents. Right-clicking an item in the explorer view offers a context menu that animates and centers the 3D scene on the selected celestial body.  With each JavaFX scene component wrapped in a JFXPanel, they can easily be integrated into a NetBeans Platform Visual Library scene.  In this case, Nick and Sean are using an instance of their custom Slipstream PinGraphScene, which is an extension of the NetBeans Platform VMDGraphScene. Now, via the NetBeans Platform Visual Library, the OrbitFX celestial body viewer can be used in the same space as a WorldWind viewer, which is provided by a previously developed plugin. "This is a clear demonstration of the power of the NetBeans Platform as an application development framework," says Sean Phillips. "How else could you have so much rich application support placed literally side by side so easily?"

• Why Ultra-Low Power Computing Will Change Everything

  The ARM TechCon keynote "Why Ultra-Low Power Computing Will Change Everything" was anything but low-powered. The speaker, Dr. Johnathan Koomey, knows his subject: he is a Consulting Professor at Stanford University, worked for more than two decades at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and has been a visiting professor at Stanford University, Yale University, and UC Berkeley's Energy and Resources Group. His current focus is creating a standard (computations per kilowatt hour) and measuring computer energy consumption over time. The trends are impressive: energy consumption has halved every 1.5 years for the last 60 years. Battery life has made roughly a 10x improvement each decade since 1960. It's these improvements that have made laptops and cell phones possible. What does the future hold? Dr. Koomey said that in the past, the race by chip manufacturers was to create the fastest computer, but the priorities have now changed. New computers are tiny, smart, connected and cheap. "You can't underestimate the importance of a shift in industry focus from raw performance to power efficiency for mobile devices," he said. There is also a confluence of trends in computing, communications, sensors, and controls. The challenge is how to reduce the power requirements for these tiny devices. Alternate sources of power that are being explored are light, heat, motion, and even blood sugar. The University of Michigan has produced a miniature sensor that harnesses solar energy and could last for years without needing to be replaced. Also, the University of Washington has created a sensor that scavenges power from existing radio and TV signals.Specific devices designed for a purpose are much more efficient than general purpose computers. With all these sensors, instead of big data, developers should focus on nano-data, personalized information that will adjust the lights in a room, a machine, a variable sign, etc.Dr. Koomey showed some examples:The Proteus Digital Health Feedback System, an ingestible sensor that transmits when a patient has taken their medicine and is powered by their stomach juices. (Gives "powered by you" a whole new meaning!) Streetline Parking Systems, that provide real-time data about available parking spaces. The information can be sent to your phone or update parking signs around the city to point to areas with available spaces. Less driving around looking for parking spaces!The BigBelly trash system that uses solar power, compacts trash, and sends a text message when it is full. This dramatically reduces the number of times a truck has to come to pick up trash, freeing up resources and slashing fuel costs. This is a classic example of the efficiency of moving "bits not atoms." But researchers are approaching the physical limits of sensors, Dr. Kommey explained. With the current rate of technology improvement, they'll reach the three-atom transistor by 2041. Once they hit that wall, it will force a revolution they way we do computing. But wait, researchers at Purdue University and the University of New South Wales are both working on a reliable one-atom transistors! Other researchers are working on "approximate computing" that will reduce computing requirements drastically. So it's unclear where the wall actually is. In the meantime, as Dr. Koomey promised, ultra-low power computing will change everything.

• AdventureWorks 2014 Sample Databases Are Now Available

    Where in the World is AdventureWorks? Recently, SQL Community feedback from twitter prompted me to look in vain for SQL Server 2014 versions of the AdventureWorks sample databases we’ve all grown to know & love. I searched Codeplex, then used the bing & even the google in an effort to locate them, yet all I could find were samples on different sites highlighting specific technologies, an incomplete collection inconsistent with the experience we users had learned to expect.  I began pinging internally & learned that an update to AdventureWorks wasn’t even on the road map.  Fortunately, SQL Marketing manager Luis Daniel Soto Maldonado (t) lent a sympathetic ear & got the update ball rolling; his direct report Darmodi Komo recently announced the release of the shiny new sample databases for OLTP, DW, Tabular, and Multidimensional models to supplement the extant In-Memory OLTP sample DB.  What Success Looks Like In my correspondence with the team, here’s how I defined success: 1. Sample AdventureWorks DBs hosted on Codeplex showcasing SQL Server 2014’s latest-&-greatest features, including:  In-Memory OLTP (aka Hekaton) Clustered Columnstore Online Operations Resource Governor IO 2. Where it makes sense to do so, consolidate the DBs (e.g., showcasing Columnstore likely involves a separate DW DB) 3. • Stuff I learned at Innovate 2011

  After returning from the NRF Innovate 2011 conference, I picked up few nuggets I thought I'd share here.  These thoughts are a bit random, but I hope they're useful nonetheless.Kevin Kelly opened the conference with six verbs that represent the future.  They were Screening, Interacting, Sharing, Accessing, Flowing, and Generating.  It struck me that these are all ways in which we merge the digital and physical worlds.  The internet of things continues to gain momentum.Some buzzwords:  deal economy, subscription commerce, discovery (instead of search), curationThat last one, curation, came up over and over.  Retailers, especially those in fashion, are finding value in helping their customers organize and present their own collections.  Social media has made sharing such collections easy, and mobile lets them take those ideas into the stores.  Mannequins are becoming less relevant.I heard from both HauteLook and Gilt Groupe (flash sale retailers) that a large percentage of their visits come from mobile devices, and most of those are iOS devices.  I find it interesting that even though Android has passed iPhone in units shipped (and will eventually pass iOS as a whole), its still the Apple crowd that leads the way.RadioShack mentioned their Holiday Heroes campaigned was very successful.  They asked their Foursquare users to check-in at a gym, coffee shop, and transportation hub as part of being a hero.  For this feat, customers were awarded a special badge that was worth 20% off at their next store visit. They claim a 3.5x increase in ticket size vs. regular check-in customers, and a 5x increase vs those that don't check-in at all.I also learned of RadioShack's #28 campaign, which is apparently one of the largest Twitter trends ever.  Their partnership with LIVESTRONG has gotten them followers, impressions, and credit for supporting the fight against cancer.The guys at Invodo showed the importance of video to e-commerce.  They gave compelling examples of how video can show customers the value of products better than just words.The highlight of the show was Guy Kawasaki's talk on innovation, which was not only informative but also peppered with humor and personality.  Back in the early days of the internet boom, Guy turned down the CEO position at Yahoo! because the commute was too long.  By his calculation, that was a $2B mistake.There are other good accounts of the conference at the NRF Blog.

• Form not updating usercontrol

  From the post "Growing user control not updating"... Using C#, .Net 2.0 in a Windows environment. UserControl1 - draws cells to a bitmap buffer dependent upon NumberOfCells property UserControl2 - panel contains UserControl1 which displays vertical scroll when necessary; also contains NumberOfCells which sets UserControl1's NumberOfCells. Formf1 - contains NumericUpDown controls (just increments) which updates the UserControl2 - suppose to! When I increment the control on the form by say 20, UserControl1 adds the necessary cells, UserControl2 displays the vertical scroll bar accordingly, BUT the form does not 'redraw' to the updated/correct image!! Meaning, after I increment by 20, cells are added, vertical scrool bar added... but the image shown is just everything else expanding. I reset the control to scoll to the very TOP and the scrolling works, but the image is still staic... UNTIL I resize my form, more specifically, when I change it from maximize to window or vice versa!!! What can I do to 'reset/redraw' the correct image???? Thank you in advance. Lawrence

• Issue with 'Hello Android' tutorial

  I am brand new to Eclipse and Android, but somewhat familiar with Java. That having been said, I tried to follow the 'Hello Android' tutorial from the developer site using the latest Eclipse (Galieo) and the 2.1 Android SDK, I am on a Macintosh running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). I have a default virtual device (though my target is actually for phones like my own HTC Incredible which has the snapdragon processor and of course all the latest accoutrement in smart phones. Everything seemed to go okay until I went to RUN>RUN and then selected 'Android Application'. My computer spins it's wheels for a while and then I see two errors. • Growing user control not updating

  I am developing in C# and .Net 2.0. I have a user control that draws cells (columnar) depending upon the maximum number of cells. There are some drawing routines that generate the necessary cells. There is a property NumberOfCells that adjust the height of this control; CELLHEIGHT_CONSTANT * NumberOfCells. The OnPaint() method is overridden (code that draws the Number of cells). There is another user control that contains a panel which contains the userControl1 from above. There is a property NumberCells that changes userControl1's NumberOfCells. UserControl2 is then placed on a windows form. On that form there is a NumericUpDown control (only increments from 1). When the user increments by 1, I adjust the VerticalScroll.Maximum by 1 as well. Everything works well and good BUT when I increment once, the panel updates fine (inserts a vertical scrolll when necessary) but cells are not being added! I've tried Invalidating on userControl2 AND on the form but nothing seems to draw the newly added cells. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you in advance. Lawrence

  I have an existing XML file that I would like to append without changing the format. Existing File looks like this: <Clients> <User username="farstucker"> <UserID>1</UserID> <DOB /> <FirstName>Steve</FirstName> <LastName>Lawrence</LastName> <Location>NYC</Location> </User> </Clients> How can I add another user using this format?
