    I had this idea from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2813326/maximum-number-of-bytes-that-can-be-sent-on-a-tcp-connection is it possible that smtp servers like gmail and yahoo enter into some form of agreement to maintain a tcp connection between them so that lots of mails could be sent on the same tcp connection. it would be efficient as there would be heavy mail traffic between these mail servers.

    Hello All, The short question is - how can I prevent (delay) a bound UI element from refreshing until I want it to? The longer explanation: I have a process that adds a number of items to an ItemsControl, and then performs some additional calculations on those items using a background thread. This (correctly) updates the items as it goes along. However, I would like to prevent the ItemsControl from updating during a particular calculation, as it performs some reordering of the items before it does additional calculations based on that order, and then returns the items to their original order. I do show a "Please Wait" animation on top of the ItemsControl, with the ItemsControl dimmed down as it is working, but I'd rather not hide the ItemsControl entirely because it gives the user an indication that progress is being made.   • UIView removeFromSuperView animation delay

    I have a method which animates one of the subviews of UIWindow and then removes it from UIWindow using removeFromSuperview. But when I put removeFromSuperview after animation block, the animation never shows, because removeFromSuperview removes the UIView from UIWindow before the animation plays :-( How can I delay removeFromSuperview so the animation plays first, and then subview is removed? I tried [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:1]; after animation block but that didn't have desired effect, because animation sleeps too for some reason.   • jQuery UI Tabs force delay before changing tab on mouseover

    Using the jQuery UI Tabs 1.7.2 with jQuery 1.4.2, is there a way to make it so that when you mouseover a tab, there is a delay before the tab switches? I've been looking into using the hoverIntent plugin to do this, but cannot figure out how it would fit in.     On Bluehost shared hosting (Apache 2.2 + FastCGI + APC), I have the problem that some requests take almost exactly one minute to respond. Yet time spent in PHP is only two seconds. To demonstrate the issue, I created a temporary test page. Sample output: When asking Bluehost support about the issue, I got the following reply: “the fastcgi process don't stay running they will only stay running for a certan period which would explain the timeouts you are seeing it traffic would spawn new ones. [...]” I understand that spawning new FastCGI processes takes some time. But almost exactly one minute? That must be some timeout. But which timeout may that be? What I want in the end: No request should take longer than five seconds to respond, even if it fails. When I asked Bluehost support to set the Apache TimeOut directive accordingly, they told me: “we do not modify the Apache Config File even on a virtual host level.”

  • Add a delay to OnContactDown events for Surface controls

    We're using the Controls.PreviewContactDown, PreviewContactUp, and PreviewContactChanged events to capture tagged items being placed, removed, and moved on the Surface, which works great in the Simulator application that comes with the surface. On an actual Surface if you moved a tagged item too quickly the cameras actually lose focus of the tag, assume it was removed, and then re-capture it when it stops moving. That provides a pretty poor experience for our clients. What I'm proposing is a way to override or create a new event that would respond to tagged item events, but not fire the event handler until after a delay... i.e. if "ContactUp" is fired, wait 100ms and THEN execute the event handler. Ideally we'd just be able to use an alternate attached property to define these event handlers, i.e. <Panel local:TagDown="TagDownEventHandler" /> And if we could get it to use ICommand objects instead of event handlers that'd be even better.

    I'm currently learning about the Drupal email functions, such as drupal_mail and hook_mail, and hook_mail_alter, and I have a problem before me where I'll need to be able to queue emails for delayed delivery. For example, an event signup notification that needs to wait for an hour after the event was registered by a user. And that email has user specific data, so can't be just a generic template email... I'm using the MailQ module, mainly for it's logging capabilities, but I wonder if it (or something else) could be modified to add a configurable delay function? Any ideas?

  • Max ping response time?

    I'm wondering what a maximum (practical) ping response time might be. As far as I know, there isn't a max defined anywhere (TTL, but that's hops, not time). As I think about it, I'm not sure I've ever seen a ping response time of more than a second or so. But as far as I know, there is nothing to stop a remote host from waiting (or being really busy) and not sending the response back for a few seconds. As a simple data point, I just pinged a number of servers around the world and the worst time I could find was 350ms.

  • Postfix with relayhost - relay access denied for bounces

    I have set up a Postfix Mailserver, outgoing mail is being sent through a smarthost/relayhost which requires authentification. That works great, internal clients can send to foreign recipients though this relayhost. However, when an external mail for a local, non-existent user arrives at the server, postfix tries to send a non-delivery notification to the sender.   • ASP.NET/AJAX - Timer delay

    I've got a problem with the timer in asp.net ajax. The timer needs to trigger every second so I put the delay of the timer (don't know the real name atm) at 1000. Now when I put this timer inside an UpdatePanel it doesn't really trigger every second because the timer also gets updated in the UpdatePanel. But when I put the timer outside the update panel it keeps kinda refreshing the page, so whenever I put a button on the same page I need to press and release this button within 1 second else it gets refreshed. Also I saw that even outside of the UpdatePanel the timer isn't a real second. Any solutions?

  • Strophe javascript prevent disconnection on some delay

    Hello, I am developing javascript XMPP application which uses Strophe library to connect to Jabber server. I need to engage the thread for about 5-10 seconds when Strophe connects to the server. Thread is engaged by running java applet and after it releases the thread it goes back to handle XMPP events, however at the moment I cannot manage to do that - trying to use a connection after delay gives me 404 HTTP error (this is sent by XMPP-BOSHS service straight after Strophe sends POST request with XMPP message to it). I was trying to 'pause' a connection with Strophe's connection.pause and then resume it - didn't work. Would sending some raw content to the server, maybe if it's possible telling it that client's gonna be unresponsive for a short time work ? Are there any other solutions ? Thanks

    How is that setting a breakpoint in my code allows the following code to complete which would fail otherwise. Here is the problem. I'm writing an add-on for SAP B1 and encountered following problem. When I load a form I would like to enter some values into the form' matrix. But without a breakpoint (set on a method in which loading a form takes place) the part of code that is executed afterward will fail. That part of code is referencing a matrix that is not yet displayed which results in an exception. This is all clear. But why setting a breakpoint "solves" the problem. What is going on? I suspect that my breakpoint introduces some delay between loading and displaying my form and part of code that references element of that form but I could be wrong.

I have read, that swing is not thread safe, but all the examples I found showed me how to start another thread (for example in the background) but never how to stop the current swing-gui thread.

  • PHP Mail Not Sending Messages

    I realize this question title is pretty overused, but I couldn't find an answer to my problem. This could be because either I'm not too good with PHP and I don't understand the problem, or because I have a different issue, but I thought I would post it and see if somebody can help me. I developed a website for a local church in my city and I made the site on my computer, put it onto my website as a sub directory and tested it all. It worked great. One of the things the client wanted was there to be an email form that can send emails. I made it and all was good. I then uploaded it onto the church server and thought it went good too. But then we decided to try the email form out, and for some reason it didn't work. I made the email form by having the user select a recipient (pastor, office manager, etc.) with a radio button, and that would change the action of the email form. This works on my server, but not theirs so I believe it's something to do with their server. You can see their server information here and mine here. When the user sends the message, they get "There seems to be an error with this form. Sorry about the inconveince. We are working to get this fixed." and the email doesn't go through, although the code is the same on my server and it works fine there. My initial thought was that PHP wasn't installed on their server (rare, but it does happen). But it was. So then I thought maybe it was installed, but the "mail" function was disabled. So I tried the following php code: <?php if (function_exists('mail')) { echo 'mail() is available'; } else { echo 'mail() has been disabled'; } ?> And it came back with "mail() is available".
