  • Upgrading from 11.10- to 12.04 Hangs at "mysql: restarting..."

    - by Mark
I'm trying to upgrade from Ubuntu Server 11.10 to 12.04 using Update Manager. I figured out that I had to click the arrow next to 'Terminal' and select OK a couple times. Now it's supposed to be "Installing the upgrades" but it's frozen trying to restart mysql for the second time mysql: restarting.... Apache2, atd and cups were all restarted twice after "Restarting services possibly affected by the upgrade". It's been stuck here for nearly an hour. I read here about killing processes, but I can't get a terminal window to open. EDIT: I don't know if this matters but there are 6 occurrences in the Distrobution Upgrade window that say: debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Gnome debconf: (Unable to load Gtk -- is libgtk2-perl installed?) debconf: falling back to frontend: Dialog I should have left the server alone and never run apt-get install ubuntu-desktop yesterday. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Mark

  • What is bondib1 used for on SPARC SuperCluster with InfiniBand, Solaris 11 networking & Oracle RAC?

    - by user12620111
    A co-worker asked the following question about a SPARC SuperCluster InfiniBand network: > on the database nodes the RAC nodes communicate over the cluster_interconnect. This is the > 192.168.10.0 network on bondib0. (according to ./crs/install/crsconfig_params NETWORKS> setting) > What is bondib1 used for? Is it a HA counterpart in case bondib0 dies? This is my response: Summary: bondib1 is currently only being used for outbound cluster interconnect interconnect traffic. Details: bondib0 is the cluster_interconnect $ oifcfg getif            bondeth0  10.129.184.0  global  public bondib0  192.168.10.0  global  cluster_interconnect ipmpapp0  192.168.30.0  global  public bondib0 and bondib1 are on 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2 respectively. # ipadm show-addr | grep bondi bondib0/v4static  static   ok           192.168.10.1/24 bondib1/v4static  static   ok           192.168.10.2/24 Hostnames tied to the IPs are node1-priv1 and node1-priv2  # grep 192.168.10 /etc/hosts 192.168.10.1    node1-priv1.us.oracle.com   node1-priv1 192.168.10.2    node1-priv2.us.oracle.com   node1-priv2 For the 4 node RAC interconnect: Each node has 2 private IP address on the 192.168.10.0 network. Each IP address has an active InfiniBand link and a failover InfiniBand link. Thus, the 4 node RAC interconnect is using a total of 8 IP addresses and 16 InfiniBand links. bondib1 isn't being used for the Virtual IP (VIP): $ srvctl config vip -n node1 VIP exists: /node1-ib-vip/192.168.30.25/192.168.30.0/255.255.255.0/ipmpapp0, hosting node node1 VIP exists: /node1-vip/10.55.184.15/10.55.184.0/255.255.255.0/bondeth0, hosting node node1 bondib1 is on bondib1_0 and fails over to bondib1_1: # ipmpstat -g GROUP       GROUPNAME   STATE     FDT       INTERFACES ipmpapp0    ipmpapp0    ok        --        ipmpapp_0 (ipmpapp_1) bondeth0    bondeth0    degraded  --        net2 [net5] bondib1     bondib1     ok        --        bondib1_0 (bondib1_1) bondib0     bondib0     ok        --        bondib0_0 (bondib0_1) bondib1_0 goes over net24 # dladm show-link | grep bond LINK                CLASS     MTU    STATE    OVER bondib0_0           part      65520  up       net21 bondib0_1           part      65520  up       net22 bondib1_0           part      65520  up       net24 bondib1_1           part      65520  up       net23 net24 is IB Partition FFFF # dladm show-ib LINK         HCAGUID         PORTGUID        PORT STATE  PKEYS net24        21280001A1868A  21280001A1868C  2    up     FFFF net22        21280001CEBBDE  21280001CEBBE0  2    up     FFFF,8503 net23        21280001A1868A  21280001A1868B  1    up     FFFF,8503 net21        21280001CEBBDE  21280001CEBBDF  1    up     FFFF On Express Module 9 port 2: # dladm show-phys -L LINK              DEVICE       LOC net21             ibp4         PCI-EM1/PORT1 net22             ibp5         PCI-EM1/PORT2 net23             ibp6         PCI-EM9/PORT1 net24             ibp7         PCI-EM9/PORT2 Outbound traffic on the 192.168.10.0 network will be multiplexed between bondib0 & bondib1 # netstat -rn Routing Table: IPv4   Destination           Gateway           Flags  Ref     Use     Interface -------------------- -------------------- ----- ----- ---------- --------- 192.168.10.0         192.168.10.2         U        16    6551834 bondib1   192.168.10.0         192.168.10.1         U         9    5708924 bondib0   There is a lot more traffic on bondib0 than bondib1 # /bin/time snoop -I bondib0 -c 100 > /dev/null Using device ipnet/bondib0 (promiscuous mode) 100 packets captured real        4.3 user        0.0 sys         0.0 (100 packets in 4.3 seconds = 23.3 pkts/sec) # /bin/time snoop -I bondib1 -c 100 > /dev/null Using device ipnet/bondib1 (promiscuous mode) 100 packets captured real       13.3 user        0.0 sys         0.0 (100 packets in 13.3 seconds = 7.5 pkts/sec) Half of the packets on bondib0 are outbound (from self). • Where have the Direct3D 11 tutorials on MSDN have gone?

    - by Cam Jackson
I've had this tutorial bookmarked for ages. I've just decided to give DX11 a real go, so I've gone through that tutorial, but I can't find where the next one in the series is! There are no links from that page to either the next in the series, or back up to the table of contents that lists all of the tutorials. These are just companion tutorials to the samples that come with the SDK, but I find them very helpful. Searching MSDN from google and the MSDN Bing search box has turned up nothing, it's like they've removed all links to these tutorials, but the pages are still there if you have the URLs. Unfortunately, MSDN URLs are akin to youtube URLs, so I can't just guess the URL of the next tutorial. Anyone have any idea what happened to these tutorials, or how I can find the others?

  • Ubuntu 11.0 HDMI Video Card No 5.1 Audio

    - by ryandlf
I am using Ubuntu and XMBC on my HTPC and have chosen the Radeon HD5570 Video card which has an HDMI output. In the sound preferences there is no surround sound option for the video card just stereo and although I can get sound through it in XBMC, my receiver does not state Dolby Digital on movies that are in fact Dolby so its definitely not giving me the true sound it should. Does this card not support surround sound through HDMI and I somehow missed it? If that is the case does anyone have suggestion that has been tested and works? Id like to know its going to work before investing in yet another video card.

Source : http://developer.apple.co...

  • Android Multiple objects in SimpleAdapter

    - by Adam Sherratt
    I have a need (unless you can think of a better way) of passing multiple objects to a custom list adapter. I know that I'm barking up the wrong tree here, and would appreciate someone setting me on the right course! Thanks playlistadapter = new MyPlaylistAdapter(MyApplication.getAppContext(), songsList, retained_songsList, folderMode, R.layout.file_view, new String[] { "songTitle","songAlbum", "songPath" }, new int[] { R.id.checkTextView, R.id.text2, R.id.text3 }); And my adapter class: public class MyPlaylistAdapter extends SimpleAdapter{ private ArrayList <Song> songsList = new ArrayList<Song>(); private ArrayList <Song> retained_songsList = new ArrayList<Song>(); private ArrayList<Song> playlistcheck = new ArrayList<Song>(); private String folderMode; private String TAG = "AndroidMediaCenter"; public MyPlaylistAdapter(Context context,List<Song> SongsList, List<Song> Retained_songsList, String FolderMode,int resource, String[] from, int[] to) { super(context, null, resource, from, to); songsList.clear(); songsList.addAll(SongsList); Log.i(TAG, "MyPlayListAdapter Songslist = " + songsList.size()); retained_songsList.clear(); retained_songsList.addAll(Retained_songsList); folderMode = FolderMode; } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { //PlayListViewHolder holder; CheckedTextView checkTextView; TextView text2; TextView text3; if (convertView == null) { LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) MyApplication.getAppContext().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); //LayoutInflater inflater=getLayoutInflater(); convertView=inflater.inflate(R.layout.file_view, parent, false); //convertView.setBackgroundColor(0xFF00FF00 ); //holder = new PlayListViewHolder(); checkTextView = (CheckedTextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.checkTextView); text2 = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.text2); text3 = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.text3); //convertView.setTag(holder); } else { //holder = (PlayListViewHolder) convertView.getTag(); } //put something into textviews String tracks = null; String tracks_Details = null; String trackspath = null; tracks = songsList.get(position).getSongTitle(); tracks_Details = songsList.get(position).getAlbum() + " (" + songsList.get(position).getArtist() + ")"; trackspath = songsList.get(position).getSongPath(); checkTextView = (CheckedTextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.checkTextView); text2 = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.text2); text3 = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.text3); checkTextView.setText(tracks); if(folderMode.equals("Playlists")){ checkTextView.setBackgroundColor(Color.GREEN); checkTextView.setChecked(false); try { int listsize_rs = retained_songsList.size(); for (int j = 0; j<listsize_rs;j++){ if((retained_songsList.get(j).getSongPath()).equals(songsList.get(position).getSongPath())){ checkTextView.setBackgroundColor(Color.TRANSPARENT); //Need to check here whether the checkedtextview is ticked or not checkTextView.setChecked(true); playlistcheck.add(songsList.get(position)); break; } } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } }else { //Need to check here whether the checkedtextview is ticked or not try { if (songsList.get(position).getSongCheckedStatus()==true){ checkTextView.setChecked(true); }else{ checkTextView.setChecked(false); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } text2.setText(tracks_Details); text3.setText(trackspath); Log.i(TAG, "MyPlayListAdapter Songslist = " + songsList.size()); return convertView; } } However, this doesn't inflate, throwing the following errors: 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): java.lang.RuntimeException: Error receiving broadcast Intent { act=android.intent.action.GetMusicComplete flg=0x10 } in com.Nmidia.AMC.MusicActivity$18@414c5770 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.app.LoadedApk$ReceiverDispatcher$Args.run(LoadedApk.java:765) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.os.Handler.handleCallback(Handler.java:615) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:92) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4745) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:786) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:553) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.widget.SimpleAdapter.getCount(SimpleAdapter.java:93) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.widget.ListView.setAdapter(ListView.java:460) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at com.Nmidia.AMC.MusicActivity.setFilterMusic(MusicActivity.java:1230) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at com.Nmidia.AMC.MusicActivity$18.onReceive(MusicActivity.java:996) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): at android.app.LoadedApk$ReceiverDispatcher$Args.run(LoadedApk.java:755) 10-26 23:11:09.464: E/AndroidRuntime(2826): ... 9 more

  • Package Version Numbers, why are they so important

    - by Chris W Beal
One of the design goals of IPS has been to allow people to easily move forward to a supported "Surface" of component. That is to say, when you  # pkg update your system, you get the latest set of components which all work together, based on the packages you already have installed. During development, this has meant simply you update to the latest "build" of the components. (During development, we build everything and publish everything every two weeks). Now we've released Solaris 11 using the IPS technologies, things are a bit more complicated. We need to be able to reflect all the types of Solaris release we are doing. For example Solaris Development builds, Solaris Update builds and "Support Repository Updates" (the replacement for patches) in the version scheme. So simply saying "151" as the build number isn't sufficient to articulate what you are running, or indeed what is available to update to In my previous blog post I talked about creating your own package, and gave an example FMRI of pkg://tools/[email protected],0.5.11-0.0.0 But it's probably more instructive to look at the FMRI of a Solaris package. The package "core-os" contains all the common utilities and daemons you need to use Solaris.  $ pkg info core-os Name: system/core-os Summary: Core Solaris Description: Operating system core utilities, daemons, and configuration files. Category: System/Core State: Installed Publisher: solaris Version: 0.5.11 Build Release: 5.11 Branch: 0.175.0.0.0.2.1 Packaging Date: Wed Oct 19 07:04:57 2011 Size: 25.14 MB FMRI: pkg://solaris/system/[email protected].11,5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.1:20111019T070457Z The FMRI is what we will concentrate on here. In this package "solaris" is the publisher. You can use the pkg publisher command to see where the solaris publisher gets it's bits from $ pkg publisher PUBLISHER TYPE STATUS URI solaris origin online http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release/ So we can see we get solaris packages from pkg.oracle.com.  The package name is system/core-os. These can be arbitrary length, just to allow you to group similar packages together. Now on the the interesting? bit, the versions, everything after the @ is part of the version. IPS will only upgrade to a "higher" version. [email protected].11,5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.1:20111019T070457Z core-os = Package Name0.5.11 = Component - in this case we're saying it's a SunOS 5.11 package, = separator5.11 = Built on version - to indicate what OS version you built the package on- = another separator0.175.0.0.0.2.1 = Branch Version : = yet another separator20111019T070457Z = Time stamp when the package was published So from that we can see the Branch Version seems rather complex. It is necessarily so, to allow us to describe the hierachy of releases we do In this example we see the following 0.175: is known as the trunkid, and is incremented each build of a new release of Solaris. During Solaris 11 this should not change  0: is the Update release for Solaris. 0 for FCS, 1 for update 1 etc 0: is the SRU for Solaris. 0 for FCS, 1 for SRU 1 etc 0: is reserved for future use 2: Build number of the SRU 1: Nightly ID - only important for Solaris developersTake a hypothetical example [email protected].11,5.11-0.175.1.5.0.4.1:<something> This would be build 4 of SRU 5 of Update 1 of Solaris 11 This is actually documented in a MOS article 1378134.1 Which you can read if you have a support contract.

  • Can't manage iPod from linux anymore

    - by kemp
I used to be able to see and manage my iPod with different softwares: Amarok, Rhythmbox, GTKPod. The device is a nano 1st generation 4gb. Currently it mounts regularly and can be accessed from the file system, but I get this in dmesg: [ 1547.617891] scsi 11:0:0:0: Direct-Access Apple iPod 1.62 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 [ 1547.619103] sd 11:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 [ 1547.620478] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Adjusting the sector count from its reported value: 7999488 [ 1547.620494] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] 7999487 512-byte hardware sectors: (4.09 GB/3.81 GiB) [ 1547.621718] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off [ 1547.621726] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 68 00 00 08 [ 1547.621732] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 1547.623591] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Adjusting the sector count from its reported value: 7999488 [ 1547.624993] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 1547.625003] sdb: sdb1 sdb2 [ 1547.629686] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk [ 1548.084026] FAT: utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive! I say partially because I can transfer files to the iPod but can't remove or modify them. Also one transfer didn't finish and only 9 out of 16 songs were delivered to the device. All other softwares I tried (GTKPod, Amarok, Songbird) don't even detect it. What can I do to troubleshoot this? Haven't been using my iPod for a while so I can't say when exactly it stopped working. I'm sure Amarok was still at version 1.X but can't remember when it was. My current system is debian testing fully updated. NOTE: just noticed that if I mount the device manually instead of letting nautilus automount it, I can see it again on GTKPod but still not on Banshee AND it's vanished from Rhythmbox...

  • How to make working TFTP server on CentOS 6.2

    - by Dima
I'm trying to setup TFTP server on CentOS 6.2. The /etc/xinet.d/tftp configuration file is the following: service tftp { disable = no socket_type = dgram protocol = udp wait = yes user = root server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = -s /tftpboot -vvv per_source = 11 cps = 100 2 flags = IPv4 } The selinux and firewall are disabled. The /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny files are empty. When I'm trying to get a file from the TFTP server, the file transfer always failed and I see the following errors into /var/log/messages Jul 11 03:16:53 localhost xinetd[4155]: xinetd Version 2.3.14 started with libwrap loadavg labeled-networking options compiled in. Jul 11 03:16:53 localhost xinetd[4155]: Started working: 1 available service Jul 11 03:17:00 localhost xinetd[4155]: START: tftp pid=4157 from=192.168.10.3 Jul 11 03:17:00 localhost in.tftpd[4158]: RRQ from 192.168.10.3 filename 1 Jul 11 03:17:00 localhost in.tftpd[4158]: sending NAK (0, Permission denied) to 192.168.10.3 Jul 11 03:17:01 localhost in.tftpd[4159]: RRQ from 192.168.10.3 filename 1 Jul 11 03:17:01 localhost in.tftpd[4159]: sending NAK (0, Permission denied) to 192.168.10.3 Jul 11 03:17:03 localhost in.tftpd[4160]: RRQ from 192.168.10.3 filename 1 The tftpboot directory permissions are (output of the ls -l command): drw-rw-rw-. 3 root root 4096 Jul 11 03:32 tftpboot I also see that the tftpboot directory is shown (by ls -l) with green background (unlike other files/directories) (Why? As I know the green background is for sticky bit only). What I did wrong? How can I make TFTP server working?

I'm trying to set up an OpenVPN server on my VPS for myself when I'm in public places, using this tutorial, http://tipupdate.com/how-to-install-openvpn-on-ubuntu-vps/ However whenever I try to start the server, it gives me this, root@vps:~# /etc/init.d/openvpn start * Starting virtual private network daemon(s)... * Autostarting VPN 'server' [fail] The log contains this Tue Dec 11 10:53:32 2012 Diffie-Hellman initialized with 1024 bit key Tue Dec 11 10:53:32 2012 /usr/bin/openssl-vulnkey -q -b 1024 -m <modulus omitted> Tue Dec 11 10:53:33 2012 TLS-Auth MTU parms [ L:1542 D:138 EF:38 EB:0 ET:0 EL:0 ] Tue Dec 11 10:53:33 2012 ROUTE: default_gateway=UNDEF Tue Dec 11 10:53:33 2012 Note: Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/net/tun: No such file or directory (errno=2) Tue Dec 11 10:53:33 2012 Note: Attempting fallback to kernel 2.2 TUN/TAP interface Tue Dec 11 10:53:33 2012 Cannot allocate TUN/TAP dev dynamically Tue Dec 11 10:53:33 2012 Exiting So obviously it's something to do with the tun, but I don't understand how to fix it. Thanks!

  • How should I interpret site analytics with 11 pageviews in an 3 second visit?

    - by Juank
I'm using google analytics and recently i've noticed some weird trends going on. I have a lot of visits that last mere seconds but mark several page views... more than a normal human can see in that range of time. A specific case is that the only visitor from Ireland i've had until now recorded 11 pageviews in a 3 second visit. Are these crawlers? Shouldn't google analytics filter those out?

  • Apache 2.4 subdomain setup fails

    - by Grashopper
I am struggling with this all the day, no answer i found here as well. Please advice how to setup proper a subdomain i need. My Apache config has 2 domains configured (on same IP), for the domain2.com i need to setup a sub-domain. Here is what i have so far, but the subdomain keeps redirecting me to domain2.com (main site). <VirtualHost 11.11.11.11:80> ServerName domain1.com ServerAlias domain1.com *.domain1.com DocumentRoot "C:/wwwmap/domain1.com" </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 11.11.11.11:80> ServerName domain2.com ServerAlias domain2.com *.domain2.com DocumentRoot "C:/wwwmap/domain2.com" </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 46.4.24.4:80> ServerName projects.domain2.com DocumentRoot "C:/wwwmap/projects" </VirtualHost> The DNS entry is: projects in CNAME domain2.com Trying to remove ServerAlias domain2.com *.domain2.com worked so far, but then domain2.com is redirecting to domain1.com What am i doing wrong?
