  • Is there any significant benefit to reading string directly from control instead of moving it into a

    - by Kevin
    sqlInsertFrame.Parameters.AddWithValue("@UserName", txtUserName.txt); Given the code above...if I don't have any need to move the textbox data into a string variable, is it best to read the data directly from the control? In terms of performance, it would seem smartest to not create any unnecessary variables which use up memory if its not needed. Or is this a situation where its technically true but doesn't yield any real world results due to the size of the data in question. Forgive me, I know this is a very basic question.

  • Reading Excel Files In C# Always Results In System.__ComObject?

    - by Soo
    This is the code I'm using to read an xls file: Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application excelApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application(); Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook excelWorkbook = excelApp.Workbooks.Open(filePath, 0, true, 5, "", "", true, Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.XlPlatform.xlWindows, "\t", false, false, 0, true, 1, 0); Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Sheets excelSheets = excelWorkbook.Worksheets; Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet excelSheet = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet)excelSheets.get_Item(1); MessageBox.Show(excelSheet.Cells[1,1].ToString()); Which results in a message box with: System.__ComObject Not sure what's going on, I'd really appreciate any help, thanks!

  • How the reading from and writing to sockets are synchronized?

    - by Roman
    We create a socket. On one side of the socket we have a "server" and on another side there is a "client". Both, the server and client, can write to and read from the socket. It is what i understand. I do not understand the following things: If a server reads from the socket, does it see in the socket only those stuff which was written to the socket by the client? I mean if server writes something to the socket and than reads from the socket, will it (server) see in the socket the stuff it (server) wrote there? I hope not. Let's consider the following situation. A client write something to the socket and then it writes something new to the socket and then server reads from the socket. What will the server see there? Only the "new" stuff written by the client or both "new" and "old" one? If a client (or server) writes to the socket, can it see if the written information was received by other side? For example out.println("Hello, Server!") will return true it server received this message.

  • c++ library for endian-aware reading of raw file stream metadata?

    - by Kache4
    I've got raw data streams from image files, like: vector<char> rawData(fileSize); ifstream inFile("image.jpg"); inFile.read(&rawData[0]); I want to parse the headers of different image formats for height and width. Is there a portable library that can can read ints, longs, shorts, etc. from the buffer/stream, converting for endianess as specified? I'd like to be able to do something like: short x = rawData.readLeShort(offset); or long y = rawData.readBeLong(offset) An even better option would be a lightweight & portable image metadata library (without the extra weight of an image manipulation library) that can work on raw image data. I've found that Exif libraries out there don't support png and gif.

  • Reading and writing dates to the registry for trial version purposes.

    - by LeeW
    Hi all, Here's what I want to do, I want to store the date the first time the program is installed and also store a date when was the program was last run. I want the code to check to see if it was more than 30 days since the installation so I can turn off features. I also want to check if the system date is less than the last opened date and if so write the installed date to 1/1/1901 to prevent the program from running. Keeping in mind that this is not a consumer program but a business program I don't expect hackers to crack it, they may do but that is fine I simply want to give potential customers a reason to consider purchasing the program and the end of the trial will prompt this. 1: Does this sound reasonable? 2: How should I hide the fact this is a date so it's not easily changed? Many thanks Lee

  • [java] reading POST data from html form sent to serversocket.

    - by user32167
    i try to write simplest possible server app in Java, displaying html form with textarea input, which after submitting gives me possibility to parse xml typed in thet textarea. For now i build simple serversocket based server like that: import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.InputStreamReader; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.net.ServerSocket; import java.net.Socket; public class WebServer { protected void start() { ServerSocket s; String gets = ""; System.out.println("Start on port 80"); try { // create the main server socket s = new ServerSocket(80); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Error: " + e); return; } System.out.println("Waiting for connection"); for (;;) { try { // wait for a connection Socket remote = s.accept(); // remote is now the connected socket System.out.println("Connection, sending data."); BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader( remote.getInputStream())); PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(remote.getOutputStream()); String str = "."; while (!str.equals("")) { str = in.readLine(); if (str.contains("GET")){ gets = str; break; } } out.println("HTTP/1.0 200 OK"); out.println("Content-Type: text/html"); out.println(""); // Send the HTML page String method = "get"; out.print("<html><form method="+method+">"); out.print("<textarea name=we></textarea></br>"); out.print("<input type=text name=a><input type=submit></form></html>"); out.println(gets); out.flush(); remote.close(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Error: " + e); } } } public static void main(String args[]) { WebServer ws = new WebServer(); ws.start(); } } After form (textarea with xml and one additional text input) is submitted in 'gets' String-type variable I have Urlencoded values of my variables (also displayed on the screen, it looks like that: gets = GET /?we=%3Cnetwork+ip_addr%3D%2210.0.0.0%2F8%22+save_ip%3D%22true%22%3E%0D%0A%3Csubnet+interf_used%3D%22200%22+name%3D%22lan1%22+%2F%3E%0D%0A%3Csubnet+interf_used%3D%22254%22+name%3D%22lan2%22+%2F%3E%0D%0A%3C%2Fnetwork%3E&a=fooBar HTTP/1.1 What can i do to change GET to POST method (if i simply change it in form and than put " if (str.contains("GET")){" it gives me string like gets = POST / HTTP/1.1 with no variables. And after that, how i can use xml from my textarea field (called 'we')?

  • C, reading multiple numbers from single input line (scanf?)

    - by michal
    Hi, I'm writing an app in pure C which expects two line at input: first one, which tells how big an array of int will be, and the second, which contains values, separated by space. So, for the following input 5 1 2 3 4 99 I need to create an array containing {1,2,3,4,99} Now, my question is - what is the fastest (yet easy ;)) way to do so? My problem is "how to read multiple numbers without looping through the whole string checking if it's space or a number" ? Thanks m.

  • Using FileSystemWatcher in detecting a xml file, using Linq in reading the xml file and prompt the results error "Root Element is Missing"

    - by GrayFullBuster
    My application is already working it can detect the xml file and prompt the content of the xml file but sometimes it will prompt "Root element is missing", and sometimes also it is okay but when I open the xml file, it is ok, it has contents on it. How to solve this issue. Here is the screenshot of the error: Here is the code: private void fileSystemWatcher_Created(object sender, System.IO.FileSystemEventArgs e) { string invoice = ""; using (var stream = System.IO.File.Open(e.FullPath, System.IO.FileMode.Open, System.IO.FileAccess.Read, System.IO.FileShare.ReadWrite)) { var doc = System.Xml.Linq.XDocument.Load(stream); var transac = from r in doc.Descendants("Transaction") select new { InvoiceNumber = r.Element("InvoiceNumber").Value, }; foreach (var i in transac) { invoice = i.InvoiceNumber; } } MessageBox.Show(invoice); fileSystemWatcher.EnableRaisingEvents = false; } The error goes here var doc = System.Xml.Linq.XDocument.Load(stream);

  • Why is IE8 on XP not properly reading from XML using JQuery?

    - by dking
    Given this XML in data.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <data> <bar>100</bar> </data> I want to display the content from the "bar" element using the following code in test.html <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js"></script> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> $.get('data.xml', function(xml) { var foo = $(xml).find('bar').text(); document.write("<span>foo: [" + foo + "]</span>"); }); </script> </body> </html> The output in webkit based browsers: foo: [100] The output in IE8 on XP: foo: [] Why do webkit browsers read the element's content correctly while IE8 interprets it as an empty string?

  • Which is faster in memory, ints or chars? And file-mapping or chunk reading?

    - by Nick
    Okay, so I've written a (rather unoptimized) program before to encode images to JPEGs, however, now I am working with MPEG-2 transport streams and the H.264 encoded video within them. Before I dive into programming all of this, I am curious what the fastest way to deal with the actual file is. Currently I am file-mapping the .mts file into memory to work on it, although I am not sure if it would be faster to (for example) read 100 MB of the file into memory in chunks and deal with it that way. These files require a lot of bit-shifting and such to read flags, so I am wondering that when I reference some of the memory if it is faster to read 4 bytes at once as an integer or 1 byte as a character. I thought I read somewhere that x86 processors are optimized to a 4-byte granularity, but I'm not sure if this is true... Thanks!

  • Simple graphics API with transparency, polygons, reading image pixels?

    - by M. Elkstein
    I need a simple graphics library that supports the following functionality: Ability to draw polygons (not just rectangles!) with RGBA colors (i.e., partially transparent), Ability to load bitmap images, Ability to read current color of pixel in a given coordinate. Ideally using JavaScript or Python. Seems like HTML 5 Canvas can handle #2 and #3 but not #1, whereas SVG can handle #1 and #2 but not #3. Am I missing something (about either of these two)? Or are there other alternatives?

  • Cocoa Drag and Drop, reading back the data. [Newbie]

    - by kodai
    Ok, I have a NSOutlineView set up, and I want it to capture PDF's if a pdf is dragged into the NSOutlineView. My first question, I have the following code: [outlineView registerForDraggedTypes:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:NSStringPboardType, NSFilenamesPboardType, nil]]; In all the apple Docs and examples I've seen I've also seen something like MySupportedType being an object registered for dragging. What does this mean? Do I change the code to be: [outlineView registerForDraggedTypes:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"pdf", NSStringPboardType, NSFilenamesPboardType, nil]]; Currently I have it set up to recognize drag and drop, and I can even make it spit out the URL of the dragged file once the drag is accepted, however, this leads me to my second question. I want to keep a copy of those PDF's app side. I suppose, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the best way to do this is to grab the data off the clipboard, save it in some persistant store, and that's that. (as apposed to using some sort of copy command and literally copying the file to the app director.) That being said, I'm not sure how to do that. I've the code: - (BOOL)outlineView:(NSOutlineView *)ov acceptDrop:(id <NSDraggingInfo>)info item:(id)item childIndex:(NSInteger)childIndex { NSPasteboard *pboard = [info draggingPasteboard]; NSURL *fileURL; if ( [[pboard types] containsObject:NSURLPboardType] ) { fileURL = [NSURL URLFromPasteboard:pboard]; // Perform operation using the file’s URL } NSData *data = [pboard dataForType:@"NSPasteboardTypePDF"]; But this never actually gets any data. Like I said before, it does get the URL, just not the data. Does anyone have any advise on how to get this going? Thanks so much!

  • Is there a way to close a Unix socket for only reading or writing?

    - by Sii
    Is there a way to only close "one end" of a TCP socket to cleanly indicate one side of a connection is done writing to the connection? (Just like you do with a pipe in every Unix pipe tutorial ever.) Or should I use some in-band solution like a sentinel value or some such? I only found shutdown() in the libc documentation and that doesn't seem like it does what I want.

  • converting tabular structures in a Word document into an actual table or reading data from the tabul

    - by Chris
    I have a macro which can read the last cell/column of all tables in a Word 2003/2007 document and store the data in an MS-Access table. But, some Word documents have the data in structures like a table format but are not actually tables. The structure looks like a table, but the table borders are actually line connectors. These documents were created by a software(VeryPDF PDF to Word converter) which converted the PDF documents(the original format these documents were) into Word documents. Is there a way I can convert/replace the tabular structures with actual tables in Word so that I can use the macro? Or, is there a way I can read the value of the last column from the tabular structures using some VBA code? Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Vista seems to prevent .net from reading/updating file attributes.

    - by CFP
    Hello everyone! The following function copies a file from Source & Path to Dest & Path, normally setting file attributes to normal before copying. Yet, a user of my app has reported it to fail when copying readonly files, returning a permissions-related error. The user is however running the code as administrator, and the error happens - quite strangely - on the SetLastWriteTimeUtc line. Although the code reports that the file attributes are set to normal, windows explorer shows that they are set to read only. Sub CopyFile(ByVal Path As String, ByVal Source As String, ByVal Dest As String) If IO.File.Exists(Dest & Path) Then IO.File.SetAttributes(Dest & Path, IO.FileAttributes.Normal) IO.File.Copy(Source & Path, Dest & Path, True) If Handler.GetSetting(ConfigOptions.TimeOffset, "0") <> "0" Then IO.File.SetAttributes(Dest & Path, IO.FileAttributes.Normal) IO.File.SetLastWriteTimeUtc(Dest & Path, IO.File.GetLastWriteTimeUtc(Dest & Path).AddHours(Handler.GetSetting(ConfigOptions.TimeOffset, "0"))) End If IO.File.SetAttributes(Dest & Path, IO.File.GetAttributes(Source & Path)) End Sub I just fail to see the problem in this code, so after long hours of searching for the solution, I thought one of SO VB.Net Gurus might help :) Thanks a lot. Edit: The actual error is Access to the path '(..)' is denied. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize) at System.IO.File.OpenFile(String path, FileAccess access, SafeFileHandle& handle) at System.IO.File.SetLastWriteTimeUtc(String path, DateTime lastWriteTimeUtc)

  • Reading data from a MySQL database into a HTML Table?

    So i am working on a project and need some advice. I have a MySQL database that stores events, i know how to code this functionality in PHP but im just stuck of a few specifics. As the project that I am creating is a timetable, the most important attributes are the day of the event, starting time and finishing time. Once i have read this data from the MYSQL database using my PHP script, how do i go about inserting these events in to a html timetable? Lets say i have record like below in my events table: Event ID = 01 Event Day = Monday Event Start = 12:00 Event End = 14:00 How would I then put that into a html table, bearing in mind that i may have mutiple events for a day?
