• Redmine + Backlogs not working on Turnkey Linux (Ubuntu)

  I'm trying to get Redmine + Backlogs work, so for starters I took a virtual appliance with Redmine from Turnkey Linux (http://www.turnkeylinux.org/redmine) and installed Backlogs on top of it, following the installation instructions (http://www.redminebacklogs.net/en/installation/ - used method #2). It seems to have installed ok, but when I go to the "Backlogs" tab and attempt to create some stories, this is what I get - first shows some kind of error/warning icon, others continue to display "in progress" icon indefinitely (can't post a screenshot, unfortunately, but you can take a look at it here: http://www.redmine.org/attachments/5329/Backlogs.jpg). None of the stories get actually created - leaving this tab and returning back to it shows empty backlogs. So.. what am I doing wrong, and how to fix this?

• How can I shrink the Address toolbar in the Task Bar?

  I like being able to run commands straight from my Task Bar. So, I've enabled the Address toolbar on my new Windows 7 system - just like I had on my old XP system. However, the bar seems to have a mandatory minimum length that's a bit longer than I'd prefer. It's about twice as long, if memory serves, as the minimum size allowed in XP. Is there any way I can adjust this minimum length, through a Registry key or some other means? (Note: I've also got a related question, about removing the Refresh button at the end of the bar.) EDIT: For clarity, I'm adding a screenshot. The toolbar I want to shorten is the one circled below, with an empty text-entry field that has a drop-down and "Refresh" button. I currently have it positioned between a Quick Launch toolbar and the Taskbar. On the far side of the Taskbar, before the System Tray, is a Desktop toolbar.

  I cannot find a Windows Explorer alternative that has full-tree view functionality like Path Finder on the Mac This is the type of view I am looking for (screenshot of Path Finder on Mac): By full-tree I mean: A tree view that includes files in addition to folders, and can be operated as its own pane-- not as a shared pane or attached pane which is characteristic of Q-Dir. Q-Dir and most others simply stick a folder tree pane on to a file list pane, which is not as useful (think Ruby on Rails application or anything with MVC-- I want to be able to pop open folders in the tree and have them stay open as I work between them). • Can I rebuild degraded RAID1 on a SAS 5 i controller with a larger mirror drive size?

  Hi, A drive failed on a Dell SAS 5i controller - see controller bios screengrab: http://imagebin.ca/view/SkZbszA.html The primary is a 160GB 10k sata drive. I added a 250GB 7k rpm drive in the hope that the array would rebuild onto this drive. This did not happen. (assuming that the controller would just operate at the speed of the slowest drive) The controller could see the new drive, but it didn't automatically rebuild the raid1 onto this drive. (my assumption is that it did not do this rebuild as the drive sizes are different). There was an option to add the new drive to the existing raid1 array - but when I tried this a message appeared stating that all data on the array would be lost. (I didn't get a screenshot of this message, I will later) Should the SAS 5i allow me to rebuild the array onto a larger drive? Is the option to add the drive to the array the right way to go? B(no wireless) is connected to A via LAN (I can ping two laptops from each other and this is working). My goal is to connect internet in B from A via proxy. Right now I can only seeing LAN connection but internet connectivity is not there in B. • Services filling up taskbar as applications

  Windows XP, with Windows Classic theme I've had a sporradic problem, where the task bar seems to fill up with lots of tasks, which seem to be names of services. When I open Task Manager, the Applications tab is filled with these names. I can still continue to use my PC to an extent, but it's not possible to remove all these icons from the taskbar, and other Windows UI features (e.g. Start bar) tend to be 'hollow' so I only see the outline; meaning I have to restart. See screenshot: The trigger seems to be clicking on the "Show Desktop" quick link when I have several applications open (e.g. Outlook, Excel). Has anyone else come across this? It's happened to me on my home machine before, but seems to happen more frequently (2-3 times a week) at work...

• My control key doesn't work, how do I fix it??

  My control key on the right doesn't work how it should. E.g. Right ctrl + T won't open new tabs in firefox, right ctrl + w won't switch windows in vim, etc. I know the key isn't physically broken, because xev shows that the right ctrl key generates events, but it just isn't responding as I expect it to in applications.   Hi, it's my first post here, don't wanna make it long, but I got a problem with my 'Windows Update' it won't show its setting's options. • Roaming profile location not updating

  We have roaming profiles enabled for some users. We want to move some of them over to a new network share. We have copied the files to the location (using Windows backup so that permissions are retained) and we've changed the location in active directory (see screenshot 1). When the user logs in to windows 8 their documents folders still points to the old server (server names removed from the picture but you can see the path is different). The user has logged off and logged back on, and has also run GP update (followed by a shutdown/restart) What do I need to do to make Windows 8 recognise the change?

• PNG alpha rendered as black in Blender

  I'm a Blender novice, so this is probably easy to fix. When I use a transparent PNG as a texture in Blender, the parts that should be transparent are rendered as black. This is especially confusing since in the material preview it looks as if the material would indeed be transparent. • Calendar shows lighter/greyed out items

  Here's a screenshot of my Windows 8.1 Calendar. As you can see, some of the items appear lighter/greyed out (ie on the 15th, 21st). Why is this? I have not noticed any difference between these items, and none of the ideas I've had for why (ie items without a specific time are lighter) have fitted. My calendar is synced to hotmail. The calendar online (hotmail.co.uk). (There are a couple of new events, but nothing should have changed with the earlier ones.) This event appears lighter. But this event does not.

  I am running windows and want to install the solaris but having hard time while using installer. I have 1 primary partition of 40GB and one extended partition. Extended partition have 4 logical drive. Solaris disk management window show only two partition one is of 40GB(Primary) and second is Extended partition. Can i convert a logical drive into primary partition( I have one free of 25 GB). • Why is IIS 7.5 flushing file cache very often?

  We're running a Win 2008 R2 server with IIS 7.5 for serving image files. It's only used for static content, and file caching has been set up to cache files for 10 minutes. However the IIS frequently completely flushes the cache (seen by using Perfmon) It's not application pool recycling, it's not because the TTL has expired, so now I'm at a loss :-( I've included a screenshot of the perfmon graph where you can clearly see the issue. Is there anywhere I can see WHY it's doing these flushes ? (Note: I'm aware I could maybe detect it by attaching a debugger to the process, but that's not an option because it's a production server, and it cannot handle the slowdown a debugger would cause)

• Eliminating "phantom" or "ghost" clicks on my Mac Pro

  Recently on my Mac Pro I have been experiencing phantom clicks and other strange behaviors. I have been rummaging through my system preferences to try and root out possible causes, and recently came across a strange finding in the Exposé panel (the keyboard modifiers are there from my taking the screenshot): I have had a Logitech 2-button mouse with a mouse wheel for years, and have never had a problem with it in the past. In addition I am running OS X 10.6.8 and have not had any issues like this up to this point. Is this a known issue? Is the extensive mouse listing a red herring? Are there any fixes for either issue?

• Can you install Ubuntu Server in a Windows PC VM on Windows 7?

  I am running Windows 7 64-bit. I've installed Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode successfully. Next, I downloaded Ubuntu Server 9.04 32-bit. I created a new virtual machine with a dynamically expanding .vhd, loaded the Ubuntu .iso, and booted the machine. I successfully made it through the install, but when the machine reboots, I get a segmentation fault. Here is a screenshot. Has anyone successfully installed Ubuntu on Windows Virtual PC?

• esxi 5.1 - copy paste host config doesn't work?

  I followed these instructions for esxi 5.1 to enable copy paste from the host config. (search for "To enable this option for all the virtual machines in the ESX/ESXi host:") http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1026437 But copy and paste doesn't work for new VMs or existing VMs. Did I do something wrong somewhere? I've rebooted VMs and even rebooted host. I can confirm that if I do a per VM configuration, it works. Just not a central host config. Here is a screenshot of my /etc/vmware/config file

• Netgear WNR1000 WiFi speed

  I have Netgear WNR1000 150N, Macbook Pro 13" with Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0, Network connection 60mbps When I connect through the cable I easily get around 60mbps. When I go through the WiFi it's capable to get only 32mbps at tops. Any ideas why is that? Is that my router limitation or maybe my WiFi card? If it is routers fault what router would you suggest. • Apache 2.4 and PHP 5.4 getting connection reset errors in the browser

  In the weekend I upgraded my development web server to Apache 2.4 and PHP 5.4. In my web application which was previously working great on Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.3 it now starts getting these messages saying the "connection was reset" in Firefox. See screenshot. I am connecting to the linux machine via local LAN. I'm assuming it might be something to do with the new version of Apache or PHP, or the new LAMP stack which I downloaded from BitNami? It would seem to happen every 5-10 requests and throw this error, perhaps more likely to trigger it is if I send a POST request from a page. Is it timing out the script or something? These are just basic dynamic pages I'm loading and they worked perfectly in Apache 2.2 and PHP5.3. Here are my httpd.conf and PHP.ini if that has any clues. Any ideas? Any help much appreciated.

• How to get rid of diacritics on my keyboard?

  I searched Google and SU for my problem, but everybody seems to want to add diacritics, while I don't want them. I'm using Windows 7 and have a US keyboard installed, not the international version. Despite that some keys, like ", ^ and ~ are used for diacritics, which means that I have to type "SPACE to get a double quote. How do I get rid of this? My other PC, with the same settings, doesn't show this behavior. edit re Stefan's answer I don't see the icon Stefan refers to in my taskbar, probably because I have Classic Shell installed. • Strange Unclearable Cache Issue with Gmail and Google Apps

  I am having a strange issue with Gmail and Google Apps... have a look at this screenshot: http://cld.ly/f51ume notice the missing images for the rounded corners? Well this is not such a problem but something similar to a cache issue is causing this as well as no background image, but MOST IMPORTANTLY chat and other "clickable" features aren't working. I've already cleared my cache multiple times and quit and re-started Firefox with no change. Everything is OK in other browsers. Any other debug suggestions?

• Windows cannot access my external harddisk partition but all partition managers can

  Some weird problem happened to my Maxtor 500GB external harddisk, it all started when it once freezed during some operation. Now when I insert the drive in a USB slot, Windows asks me to format it, and if I try to open the drive from my computer it says, "not accessible".. I tried most of the major partition managers and partition recovery software. All of these can see and access my partition normally. It showing the free space and used space correctly. • Increase performance of Samsung 830 256GB SSD

  I have a Samsung 830 SSD in my notebook connected to a SATA interface. This is a rather old HP notebook nc8430 which means SATA is SATA I and not II or even III that disk supports. But SATA I still supports speeds up to 150MB/s so I expected at least double values as per image below. CrystalDiskMark shows rather slow performance: I've been using this SSD for over a year now and I would like to know what to do to make it blazingly fast as other reports say it should be? • Properly configuring Linux keyboard on my laptop

  Hey! I have a ps/2 keyboard connected to an Acer Aspire 1694 WLMI via a ps/2 to usb converter. The laptop is running Ubuntu 9.04. The keyboard is a HP model number: SK-250C. I have configured in the 'Keyboard Preferences' the layout to HP SK-250x Multimedia Keyboard. The big problem is when I press certain keys (like for example the arrow keys) I get the 'Save Screenshot' dialog. This is really getting annoying, sometimes I am tying to write an address in browser and just want to go back a few letters and can't. There are other keys that trigger the dialog also (windows key, insert key, home key, page up and page down key, delete key, end key) All works fine If I use the laptop keyboard, but I really want to use the HP keyboard. EDIT: I was testing this and it seems that if I have the 'Num Lock' key turned off the keys work properly. Strange but true!!

• AirPlay over unicast DNS-SD. Anyone got it working?

  We set up AirPrint using unicast DNS-SD on our campus about a year ago and it turned out to be a big success, so we're looking at trying to get AirPlay working so our faculty and students can wirelessly show content on our classroom projectors. There are still a couple of other things preventing an ideal implementation (username and password authentication, for starters), but I've been trying to set up a working demo nonetheless. Getting AirPrint working was basically just a matter of advertising the same records over a DNS-SD domain instead of the multicast (.local) one, but doing the same thing for AirPlay doesn't seem to cut it. The devices don't recognize the DNS-SD AirPlay servers as available. I've uploaded a screenshot of my DNS-SD configuration with the original (from AirServer, which works normally for multicast) here. I realize this is still a fairly new feature and documentation is lacking, but has anyone been able to get AirPlay working via DNS-SD? If it simply only works over multicast, I can accept that, but its potential is so appealing for us that I thought it'd be worth asking if anyone else has figured it out.
