• rsAccessDenied - SQL server 2008 reporting services

  Hi, I am running SQL server 2008 developer edition on windows vista home premium. I created a reporting services project that was built successfully in BIDS. When I try to deploy it it gives the following error: Error rsAccessDenied : The permissions granted to user 'COMP\MYSELF' are insufficient for performing this operation. The MYSELF account is the only account on the system. It has administrator rights. The reporting service is running with the LocalSystem service account. If I log in with the MYSELF account into reportmanager, I cannot see the site settings tab. Without the site settings tab, how do I add or change the roles for MYSELF account. In summary, please help me to open the reportmanager in the browser with the site settings link so that I can change the role of the user account.

• OS X SMB Connection to Windows Server 2008 R2

  I support many Macs that connect to an SMB share on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. Occasionally I find that the Mac will try to connect and fail. The connection process will skip asking for credentials and there are none stored in keychain's password section. The server logs will show that the user tried to authenticate with invalid credentials. There are also no lingering connections from the server's point of view. The work around that I've found is to use an invalid username or a username that isn't the user's in the connection string for SMB so smb://domain;user@server/share instead of 'smb://server/share' this will force it to use the username I specified which the client doesn't have anything stored for. So it will then pop up the login window where the user changes the username to the correct one and user her password to connect happily. Specific computer in question: 15" MBP running Snow Leopard (10.6.7 or 10.6.8)

• SBS 2008 Duplicate Files - what can I delete

  I'm trying to look after my company's SBS 2008 server. It keeps running out of space on the C: (OS)drive, so Exchange stops when it gets down to 4Gb free space. From what I can tell after the last time I had a consultant in to fix it, there should comfortably be about 20Gb. Running a duplicate files report gives me a huge list of duplicated files, and identifies just how much space they are hogging. But my question is, which ones can I delete to recover the space? Can I tell, from what's shown on the report, the files that are redundant and can safely be deleted?

  I am trying to install Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.3.3 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. I've managed to setup Apache, but PHP is not working correctly: I've downloaded the latest zip from windows.php.net (VC6) and I've modified http.conf in order to load the php5 module (LoadModule, AddType & PHPIniDir). So far, so good - phpinfo() is showing and I am happy... But, there is no php.ini file - I haven't yet renamed the bundled php.ini-development|php.ini-production file. If I do so (in order to modify PHP's configuration), no php code is interpreted (including phpinfo()). I've gone over the entire php.ini-development file and still it is not working... This is very strange. Any help is welcome, Thanks in advance.

• Performance problem with Win Server 2008 at vbox on Ubuntu 9.10 Server

  Hey, i´ve got an Ubuntu 9.10 Server and tried to install Windows Server 2008 in a virtual machine. The Problem is, the Server has got 8 cores, but the virtual machine seems to have problems with that. The VM is very slow and not really usable if i set the VM-config to more than one core. Is it set to only one core everything works fine, but thats not a solution because I bought the Server with several cores for a reason... Does anybody know this problem or has got a solution? I feel like I read the entire internet via Google... no solution found. Greetz Diskilla P.S.: I´m from Germany and it´s kind of hard to ask in english :-) I hope I din´t make that much mistakes.

• Need a Company to Fix My Plesk & IIS on windows 2008 [SOLVED]

  Hello: I need to know a name of a company to fix my server install and get my sites running again. Windows 2008 IIS 7 Plesk 9.x The problem started when Level 2 of my hosting company adjusted a FTP users to have certain permissions....apparently he did this outside of plesk and it has been nothing but permission headaches all around. Connections....uploading files, etc. now somethings gone wrong where plesk isnt even loading properly and IIS too... I need to see if someone can fix this remotely before I give the green light to format and reinstall server, IIS, Plesk and Domains! looking to pay a company to get this working ASAP - This is not requested as a free job so I need someone good and who can fix it without the huge hassle of formatting and such. • Can't log in using sa account for sql server 2008

  I installed SQL Server 2008. During the install I set it to mixed mode authentication and set the password for what I assume is the sa account. In the configuration manager I set tcp/ip and named pipes to enabled. When I open SQL Server Management Studio and try to log in - username: sa, password: whatIjustsetintheinstall, it fails with the error: Login failed for user sa. (error 18456). The error in Event Viewer is - Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Password did not match that for the login provided. [CLIENT: <local machine>]. I know the password is right because I just set it. What am I doing wrong here? Is sa not the right user to be logging in with mixed mode? I've been reading through forum after forum but just cannot find anything that works.

• Windows 2008 RRAS and PPPoE

  I'm trying to use Windows Server 2008's Routing and Remote Access Server to share an ADSL connection which uses PPPoE, but I'm having no luck. I can setup the connection as a broadband Internet connection in Windows, and it works. I can share it using Internet Connection sharing, and it works (but it's not what I need). I have installed and enabled the Routing and Remote Access Service and configured it for NAT with a demand-dial interface; I create the aforementioned interface using PPPoE with the exact same parameters used on the Windows connection; I connected it, and it seems to work: I can also see it gets its public IP address and DNS assigned correctly. But it just doesn't work. The server has no Internet connectivity at all, and PINGing anything on the Internet results in a cryptic "general error". Any help?

• Installing raid controller forces reinstall of Windows Server 2008

  So, I've tried two different RAID controllers that have external SATA connections on my Server 2008 machine. I can install the hardware, boot into Windows, install the drivers and reboot again. No problems. However, as soon as I try to use eSATA-connected drives and reboot something happens to the Windows install and I can no longer boot into Windows. I tried repairing from the command line, and the end result is that repair console tells me I have 0 Windows installations (?). I end up having no choice but to reinstall Windows to get back on track. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong here, but I don't know what :(

I installed on a Vista x64 machine Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (with integrated SQL from the installation package) and when I try to add an MDF file to a project or to the App_Data when working with web, I get the following message: Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URl: http:go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkID=49251. Just to make sure: SQL 2005 express is installed and I connect to it via SSMS. Update: I am 90% sure that this is a Microsoft bug with x64 machines.

  I'm setting up a public web server: Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS7.5. Does anyone have a tutorial / walkthrough / tips on properly securing a public web server? I've seen a few tutorials but mostly focused on Windows Server 2003. What I've done so far: Created a specific user account for the website / app pool, Renamed Admin account, Installed FTPS, Configured firewall to block any non-public service (web / https), Configured firewall to allow access to management interfaces only from specific IP addresses (rdp, IIS management, ftp) Maybe a few other things but can't remember at the moment... ICMP is allowed... Should I disable all except ping? Port scan reveals only web and https ports. Any other suggestions? Thanks

  We currently have a development server set up which we are trying to test some Windows authentication ASP.NET code on. We have turned on Windows Authentication in IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2 fine, and it asks the user for a username and password as excepted, but the problem is it doesn't appear to accept any credentials. This code for example... Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Page.Title = "Home page for " + User.Identity.Name End Sub ...always returns an empty string. One theory we have is that we dont have Active Directory installed as of yet, we are just testing this by logging on via the machine name not a domain. Is this type of authentication only applicatable to domains (if so we can probably install Active Directory and some test accounts) - or is it possible to get the user identity when logging in using the machine name? Ideally we would like to be able to test this on our local machines (Windows 7 Pro) using our own accounts (again these aren't on a domain) and IIS but this has the same issue as our dev server.   Hi, I'm searching for a Windows 2008 server in Europe, preferably in Germany or UK or anything with good routing to Denmark (as its where the primary traffic will be generated from). The server will be used as web server (asp.net mvc, php), mail server and database server. We are running a few sites with around 200 concurrent users, which isn't much, but we intend to expand in the near future and the server should be easy to scale in form of adding more RAM and HDD space - if its possible. I think a virtual server may be the best choice - hyper-v or virtuozzo? - considering cost vs specs - but i'm open to suggestions. The max budget is in the range of $1000-1200/year. You guys have any suggestions? Let me know if you need further info.

• Windows server 2008 can't uninstall FTP

  I'm trying to uninstall the old IIS6 FTP service on Windows Server 2008 so that I can install FTP 7.5. In server manager I clicked remove role services and uninstalled FTP and restarted. The Web Platform Installer 2.0 RC says FTP Service is still installed but it appears uninstalled in server manager. When I try to install FTP7.5 it says that it is incompatible with FTP and that I need to uninstall that first. Is there something else that I need to do to get rid of the old FTP service?   I have only one VPS with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and want to buy an Antivirus. I tried NOD32 but they do not give less than 5 users in business edition (I have only one server). Kaspersky may be another solution but whether should i go for Internet Security or Anti-virus? I have few website hosted on this server and user have ability to upload .jpg, .gif, .zip files in few of the folders. Apart from above two any other suggestions on Antivirus that works well on above configuration and available for only one user? Thanks

How can I setup a 1 way trust, so that I am able to run executables, such as SQL Management Studio using RunAs - then type in credentials for work domain? First question is, will a 1 way trust solve this, and can I set this up without bothering a network admin at workplace (assuming I have a domain account with enough permissions on work domain) If yes - any good step by step guide to setup 1 way trust?   What backup solutions would you recommend when using SQL Server 2008 Express? I'm pretty new to SQL Server, but as I'm coming from an MySQL background I thought of setting up replication on another computer and just take Xcopy backups of that server. But unfortunately replication is not available in the Express Edition. The site is heavily accessed, so there has to be no delays and downtime. I'm also thinking of doing a backup twice a day or something. What would you recommend? I have multiple computers I can use, but I don't know if that helps me since I'm using the Express version.

• How to bind Apache to specific IP and port on Windows Server 2008

  I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 that I use to host various ASP.NET applications under IIS7. I would also like to run various PHP based web apps using Apache (or Apache 2). The server has three static IP addresses assigned to it and I would like to bind one of the IP addresses to Apache while using the other two IP addresses for IIS. I can use the IIS Manager to bind the specific IP addresses to IIS, but I am unaware of how to do this with Apache. Can anyone tell me how to go about binding Apache to a specific IP address and port (port 80 is what I want to use). Please note .. I am aware that PHP can run under IIS. In fact that is how I have been running my PHP web applications. However, there are so many inconsistencies and pitfalls with PHP running under IIS that I just prefer to use Apache.

  Hi! I've just installed mssql 2008 sp1 x64 on windows 7 RTM, and have the problem with creating snapshots, whenever I try to launch the snapshot agent (i.e. to setup transactional replication publication), it throws the error that 'the file is missing'. I have looked into c:\program files\microsoft sql server\100\com and there are no executable files at all, like snapshot.exe! I tried a crazy move to copy all the files from my mssql 2005 com folder, without replacing ofcourse, and now it doesn't give an error, but says 'starting' all the time, but nothing happens. (Now I have removed those files again) I have all of the relevant features installed. So please help me figure out what to do now! Thanks! Dmitri.

Need to know how a client system (Win7), using remote desktop, terminal server, or whatever windows 2008 provides to connect to it (as a user or an admin). Both the client (Win7) and the server (win2008) are inside a NAT (with 192.168......... addresses). Both have real internet addresses (they are in different cities 173.64.......). How can I use the internet from the client (Win7) to connect to the server (Win2008). On both systems, I have "allowed other systems to connect". I am familiar with tcp/ip, ports......etc.

• Managing Active Directory Group Membership with a Non-Administrator Account In Server 2008

  I am running Server 2008 R2 in an Active Directory Domain Environment. I have created a group in Active Directory and I have delegated management authority to that group to a user. I want this user to be able to add and remove accounts as needed from that group so that they are exercising some measurement of control without giving them other authority. When I have the user attempt to access the Active Directory Users & Computers Console it prompts them for Administrator credentials. They are using Remote Desktop to access the server, because they do not have Windows 7, and firewall rules prevent using the Remote Management Kit. I do not want to provide them with any level of Administrative rights except the minimum required for them to add/remove users from this group. There are two servers that 'talk' to each other in this isolated environment, a domain controller and a member server, both are only reachable through RDP. Any suggestions?

  We have decided to put our servers in data centers on east and west coast of US, to keep high level redundancy. After evaluating number of replication options, apart from VPN there is no other way to do replication for SQL Server. We are investigating VPN but I have following questions. Our Large DB consists of media information (pictures/movies/audio/pdf) etc, so we are not very concerned about security because they are not financial sensitive data. SQL 2005 supports or can be configured to support replication over internet? If Yes then should we downgrade to 2005? If SQL 2008 Publisher is configured for Web Sync, can we write an automatic program (C# Windows Service) to act as pull subscriber and run on the subscriber server and replicate subscriber database? Or are there any API available in SQL where we can write our own program to do replication in very generic way? (In a nut shell, can we write our own C# Windows Service based Subscriber program?)

• Scripting a database copy from MS Sql 2005 to 2008 without detach/backup/RDP

  My goal is to move a single SQL 2005 database to a seperate 2008 server. The issue is my level of access to both servers. On each I can only access the database and nothing else. I cant create a backup file or detach the database because I don't have access to the file system or to create a proxy. I've tried using the generate script function of sql 2005 management studio express to restore the schema but receive command not supported errors when attempting to execute the sql on the new database. Similarly I tried using EMS SQL Manager 2005 Lite to script a backup of the schema and data but ran into similar problems. How do I go about acomplishing this? I can't seem to find any solutions outside of using the detach and backup functions.

  So I installed Windows Server 2008 R2, I have Exchange 2010 running for some mail. I installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express for kicks. This server runs dns/dhcp for 2 laptops. But what now? It has 200g's free on the main drive and a 150g external that I have mapped as a network drive. I am not sure what else to do with this thing. It was my main station but since my laptop is nicer I am running it headless and using the lcd monitor for it as a second monitor for the laptop when I am at home.
