• Why is my subscribed podcast got greyed out podcasts that are never synched?

  I'm having lots of problems with iTunes, particularly the fact that I have a subscribed podcast with many podcasts within it, but most of them seem to be unchecked and greyed out. When I come to sync my iPod the iPod only contains 5 podcasts, when in my podcast folder there are 100s of files?!? It seems to download only the 1 most recent podcast. This is very fustrating to say the least! Where is the user friendliness of Apple's supposedly best product? If this cannot be fixed, is there an alternative to iTunes, or is it possible to use windows media player with my iPod, this is painful!

• USB Permission - Write protection

  I have an external harddisk and my friends asked for it. The point is I don't trust in his anti-virus software. Is there anyway to allow some folders (I prepare hdd space for him) to write-able and all others is read-only ? or is there a software that can do like this ? And it would be great if I can have full access on my computer ONLY (may be with some specific software on my PC) and without having to modify anything. I don't ask for hdd-encryption since I only want to limit the area of write-able folder (and allow my friend to read through all my data), later I can scan for virus myself only in that area ... scanning entire hdd with 500gb/friend is not fun at all ! Sorry if this doesn't seems like the programming questions. Any help would be appreciate, Thank you.

• Tool for monitoring windows processes and folders

  I am looking for a tool that tracks and keeps information for some processes on windows how long they've been running, when they have had started/closed. Also it would be nice to monitor folders if some data have been added/deleted to them. This is basically what I need. I tried Process Monitor but it gave me too much information. Just for creating a new folder it lists tons of useless information. I just need the time of creation... I tried and Process Explorer but it doesn't fit my needs either because it shows only the current state of my PC but I need to run some processes for couple of hours and after that to check what went wrong but unfortunately no records are saved.

• Configure (Apple) Mail to delete email from IMAP server after specified time

  I am using a corporate mail account which is synchronized via IMAP to both my desktop client and my iPhone, which is exactly the way I like it. However, the account has a limited quota. With POP3 access, this was not a problem, as POP3 clients could be configured to remove messages from server after specified time. This option is missing from my Apple Mail IMAP account configuration pane. Is there a way to replicate this feature with an IMAP account, either on the client, or on the server side? If not, I will probably have to move old messages manually to some local folder on my Mac. Is there a method to retain a single-click searchability of both archived and current mail folders together?

• Git SSH RSA keys

  I thought I set up my key pairs correctly -- I can do git pulls. I can do git commits. But when I do a git push, it counts objects, decompresses, then says: fatal: the remote end hung up unexpectedly. What's the issue here? I'm a super user, so it's not folder writable / readable access problems -- it must be the way I set up the encryption key pair... how do I debug this ... since git pull works?

• Symlink to /Documents /Pictures etc. in OS X Home Directory?

  I have just purchased a 120GB SSD with the intent of making it my boot drive. I'd like to keep it as lean as possible since, y'know, it's so small (Heaven help me). I've read Can I move my home folder in Mac OS X? and Moving Mac OS X user folders? which discourage moving the entire home dir to a data drive. Is it possible and less-dangerous to leave the home directory on the boot drive but move the big data directories to a slower drive and symlink to them? I have the same thoughts with the /Applications directory, but maybe I should make that a separate question?

• USB flash drive showing empty but half of the capacity is in Used

  Not sure if I should post my question in superuser, but it looks like the most appropriate place among all StackExchange sites. I have a 16GB Kingston DataTraveler USB drive. When I tried to use it this morning, it showed up nothing in there but yet its details showed that half of the capacity was in used. I tried it with OS X, Ubuntu, and Windows 7 and the results were the same. I tried to create a new folder and it worked. Apparently, the drive is working but somehow not showing my previously stored data. Note that I was still using the drive last night and there wasn't any problems. Following @rob's suggestion, du -h gave me: 16K ./.Trashes 960K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/2620683B-A38B-42F4-A247-45CAF4826ADE 976K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores 1008K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1 1.0M ./.Spotlight-V100 1.1M And, df -h gave me: /dev/sdb1 15G 7.9G 7.1G 53% /media/KINGSTON Confirming what I reported. Anyone got a clue/answer to this issue? Thanks.

• CentOS drive mapping? [on hold]

  This is the first time I am posting on this particular StackExchange forum and I hope that I am using the right one for the present question. Briefly, this is what I need to do I am running a web service where users can, amongst other things, upload and store files on the server. What I want to do is to hive off user file storage to a different location so my server (CentOS 64 bit) can concentrate on what it does best - server side scripting and database management. As things stand all user files go into subdirectories in a folder called stash that lies above DOC_ROOT. What I would like to do is Transparently detect all attempts to read/write to stash/sub_folder and get/set file data on a remote server - ideally the latter would be one which replicates files like a CDN so they can be delivered from the closest/fastest location based on where the user's location. Even nicer would be if for all read accesses I could provide a URL that allows the user's browser to fetch the relevant file directly without having to funnel them via my server. I am a relative newbie when it comes to this sort of thing so I hope that I have phrased this question adequately well. From the little searching I done I gathered that WebDAV can be used to map drives to a different location on the web so perhaps that is a starting point. But if that will work I need to Establish how to get WebDAV up and running on my CentOS 64 bit server. Ideally, identify a service that allows this kind of file storage and provides an API I can use in my own scripting. I'd much appreciate any help with this.

• How can I set up disk quotas on a remote server in a Samba environment?

  I've been working with an install of Ubuntu 8.04 and Samba. I'm trying to set up user disk space quotas for our shared drive. That is, each user will have their own folder on our Network Attached Storage (NAS) that has a size limit. I can successfully mount the shared drive, but I can't figure out how to set quotas on it (I think smbcquota might work, but I'm not sure). It's been suggested to me to give each user a share on the shared drive or to use NFS. Unfortunately, neither option works for my purposes. Does anyone know how I could give users a quota on my NAS?

Somebody in my group created folder2 in my home directory and then left for vacation. I can't delete the folder... I can't move it... can't change permissions on it. How can I get rid of it? My sysadmin has no clue.

  My game require an animation when one activity finishes and next started because I have develop game with multiple activity not as multiple scene per game. I have to show animation at the time of activity creation and activity destroy. I have trying to create basic animation that was supported by android. And all that xml file I have to post it into the anim folder but the loading of resource was so much high so any type of animation I provide using android method does not work for me it look weird. If scene class has some functionality for animation that please know me then I try to load different type of animation using scene. I have not create multiple scene because I have no awareness about how to manage multiple scene in andengine though I have a working experience of 8 months in andengine. So this help also provide me a great help. Basically I want to create animation like one activity slide out at the same time the other activity slide in. So at a time user can see the transition of activity. Thanks in advance.

• How do I configure upstart to run a script on shutdown when the process takes longer than 10secs?

  I am running ubuntu 11.10 in a virtual machine (VirtualBox) to learn more about development in linux. I am using a git repository to save my work and have written a script to bundle my work up and save it to the shared folder for use while the virtual machine is not running. I would like to automatically run this script before shutdown so that my work is always available if the vm is off (currently I have to manually run the script). • Meeting reminders disappearing after accepting

  I have a particular user whose Outlook is acting up. Whenever he accepts a meeting invitation from a specific person, the reminders get turned off in the calendar. Every other person who got the meeting invitation still gets the reminders. I tried loading his profile and accepting the invitation on my end, and it went through fine (it was marked down in the calendar with a 15 minute reminder). When I looked at previous meetings he accepted from that person, there is indeed no reminder set. Any suggestions? Windows XPSP3, Outlook 2007, Exchange 2k3

  Is there anyway to make a folder or a partition on a computer (Linux/windows) to act like a flash drive to other computers or devices when connected with a usb cable. For example, I have a windows 7 computer with 2 partitions c and d, then connect that computer to another computer or a smart TV using a USB cable (has to be male to male USB cable) then the other computer or TV recognizes the current computer as a usb device. Is that possible, if not is there any usb switch to connect an external hard drive or flash drive to both the computer and TV without the need to manually switch them (I know about some USB switches but they only support automatic switching with some certain types of printers, not with mass storage) Thanks in advanced!   Hi All, I have an administrator account on a Windows 7 x64 machine. It is not THE administrator account, the account is simply a member of the administrators group. The install is default. When the user opens a command prompt it ends up in the users' %HOMEPATH% directory where you'll find various directories like the Documents folder. If the user uses the following (windows) FIND command, an "Access Denied" error occurs: FIND /I "My String" C:\Users\Rann\Documents Access denied - C:\USERS\RANN\DOCUMENTS Using runas or right-clicking on the command prompt to run it as an administrator does not change this behaviour; an administrator-level cmd.exe still gives me the same error. Changing the path to any other directory gives the same error. My question is thus: How is one supposed to use the FIND (and possibly other) commands? What rights are needed?

I have some simple code and it works: RewriteRule ^$ /webroot/www/ [L] However at the same time if the URL starts with components, followed by anything else (ex. foo, as in /components/foo), and foo is an actual directory that exists inside components, I should rewrite to /components/foo/www instead. How can I achieve that? I can't seem to figure it out. I'm using Apache with .htaccess.

• SSH running slow on cygwin

  I have a Windows XP box with Cygwin running and the SSH service. I'd like to use PuTTY to connect to it from other computers on the local network. PuTTY works fine and I actually get a relatively speedy login prompt. But anytime I do an 'ls' on the root directory ('/') it typically doesn't complete, like the command is hung. Other PuTTY sessions suffer as well, no matter what i'm doing (even just an 'ls' on my home directory might take awhile or not finish). It is like a deadlock occurred somewhere in the ssh/cygwin system. The root directory does contain the 'cygdrive' folder which is the contents of the host computer. Could this be causing the slowdown?

I keep all my projects in a folder called Projects i.e. ~/Project/blog ~/Project/whatever I'd like to have an alias along the lines of p whatever that would equate to cd ~/Project/$1 where $1 is whatever is given to p. I have tried various combinations of alias p="cd ~/Projects/\$1" with all the usual suspects for regex escaping but I can't quite get it. Any ideas?

• Soap client call has slow performance

  OS is Centos 6.2 with PHP 5.3.15. We have a Facebook application that is using PHP soap web services. We sometimes experince slow preformance when connecting to these services, but we cant understand what exacly is causing the problem. We've try to analyse the behavior using the profiling tool Kcachgrind. Here is a call graph from the index.php page that took 21 seconds to load. You can clearly see that calling the soap client is the bottle neck. I've also noticed that exactly before the page finishes to load, this file is being created in our serve's /tmp folder: wsdl-apache-d1032d85dfd16c0d91a6b70facc70e43 These are the permission of /tmp drwxrwxrwt 6 root root 40960 Aug 30 10:39 tmp I know its not the most specific question, but if any one had similar performance issues with soap client, We would love some ideas about what can cause this kind of performance problem, what can we do to investigate more accurately or how to overcome the problem ? I am greeted by an invite similar to an apache protected folder (log/password displayed in a browser pop-up, not an html popup) asking for login pass. I cannot login using system password(root) or mysql passsword(also root) I already have rails app using this mysql, and i checked the mysql password in the config files. • WUBI installation wiped hard-drive?

  Here is what happened, i ve installed xubuntu via wubi on my D: drive. I have 2 drives by the way C: and D: Basically i use C: drive for windows and D drive for rest and backup as everybody does. And i installed my WUBI installation on drive D: too. Than i tried to do a little extreme thing. Which is basically i tried to make a shortcut to D: folder within Xubuntu. The problem is suddenly all my files disappeared. Folders stayed same, but files disappeared. Also the drive have the files, i know because it is still full, but the thing is i cannot see any of my files. I tried checking for errors and some basic data recovery which didn't worked at all Any help?
