• How to deploy DevExpress to server?

  Hello I am needing to deploy a project using DevExpress controls to an IIS 6.0 server. The project loads fine and until I add in the DevExpress controls. When trying to load the site I get the error Could not load file or assembly 'DevExpress.Web.v9.3, Version=9.3.4.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b88d1754d700e49a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified What am I doing wrong? I've tried installing the controls on the server and also just copying all of the assembly dlls to the bin/ folder of the application but I can not get this error to go away. How do I get it to work?

  Hi All, Please bear with me, newbie just learning the ropes. I am getting the below message, when I try and run my app, it quiets, but then does let me re-open fine after the first quit. I tried a few things and if I turn on if i 'activate breakpoints' it all works fine... Tried a few suggestions, 'deleting build folder', 'restarting xCode' nothing seems to work... dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/UIKit Referenced from: /Volumes/MyBook/Apps/CToolBox/build/Debug-iphonesimulator/CToolBox.app/CToolBox Reason: image not found The Debugger has exited due to signal 5 (SIGTRAP).The Debugger has exited due to signal 5 (SIGTRAP). • Visual Studio unable to open Web site error

  Hello, I work with Visual Studio 2008 and work on a web project which contains a web site. When opening the solution file, I receive the error message: "Unable to open the Web site http://localhost/myWebsite.de. The Web site http://localhost/myWebsite.de does not exist." I can see the web site greyed out, with the remark "unavailable", in the solution folder. It is possible to add the web site to the solution, but after relaunching Visual Studio, it´s gone again. Has anyone had this problem in a similar way?

• WAMP Apache 403 Forbidden error

  I have recently changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 and have reinstalled WAMP server on my localhost testing pc. I have copied over my backup site too and this is working correctly. I have installed tinyMCE javascript editor as well as ajaxfilemanager. Everything works except when accessing a file i get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /catalog/admin/includes/javascript/tinymce/plugins/ajaxfilemanager/ajaxfilemanager.php on this server. I can access this file/folder through Windows explorer and all other parts of my site works (php, js in other section etc). Thanks for any help!

• 3-tier architecture v. 3-server architecture

  I'm building a traditional .NET MVC site, so I've got a natural 3-tier software architecture setup (presentation in the form of Views, business layer in the controller, and data layer in the models and data access layer). When I've deployed such sites, it usually goes either on one server (where the web site and db live), or two servers (a web server and a separate db server). How does one go about a 3-server architecture (WEB, APP, and DB)? Would the web server just have the presentation (e.g. the physical View/aspx pages), the app server would hold the config file and bin folder, and the db server would remain as is? My question is essentially, can you simply move the /bin and all app logic onto a separate server from the presentation views? If so, how do you configure the servers to know where to look? If there's a good primer somewhere or someone can give me the lowdown, I'd be forever indebted.

• Parsing RSS2.0 feeds using Pull Parser on Android

  I am trying to parse a RSS2.0 feed, obtained from a remote server, on my Android device using XML Pull Parser. // get a parser instance and set input,encoding XmlPullParser parser = Xml.newPullParser(); parser.setInput(getInputStream(), null); I am getting invalid token exceptions: Error parsing document. (position:line -1, column -1) caused by: org.apache.harmony.xml.ExpatParser$ParseException: At line 158, column 25: not well-formed (invalid token) Strangely, when I download the feed XML on the device, bundle it inside the raw folder and then run the same code. Everything works fine. What could be the problem here? How do I validate the XML before I parse it on device? Thanks.

• Redirect issues on rackspace

  Hi, i'm trying to setup 301 redirects on a rackspace account- this is what I want to happen: www.test1.com/sub/index.asp - www.test2.com/index.asp test1.com is a new PHP version of an old ASP site (a subsection of which is now at test2.com), so any previous asp page links to the test1.com/sub/ need to go to the same page name at test2.co.nz. I've got folder redirects working fine using .htaccess, ie in test1.com/sub/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.test2.com/$1 [R=301,L] but anything with .asp doesn't redirect, but is trying to be handled by the server. I've also tried a web.config in test1.com/sub/ ie: <configuration<system.web <urlMappings enabled="true" <add url="index.asp" mappedUrl="http://test2.com.com/index.asp"/ <urlMappings </system.web </configuration this gives a 500 internal server error Any ideas?

• ASP.NET MVC Areas Application Using Multiple Projects

  Hi I have been following this tutorial: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee307987(VS.100).aspx#registering_routes_in_account_and_store_areas and have an application (a bit more complex) like this set up. All the areas are working fine, however I have noticed that if I change the project name of the Accounts project to say Areas.Accounts, that it wont find any of my views within the accounts project due to the Area name not being the same as the project name e.g. the accounts routes.cs file still has this: public override string AreaName { get { return "Accounts"; } } Does anyone know why I would have to change it to this: public override string AreaName { // Needs to match the project name? get { return "Areas.Accounts"; } } for my views in the accounts project to work? I would really like the AreaName to still be Accounts, but for ASP.net MVC to look in the "Views\Areas\Areas.Accounts\" folder when its all munged into one project, rather than trying to find it within "View\Areas\Accounts\" Thanks Mark

• Creating .NET 3.0 sub-applications within .NET 1.1 applications in IIS/ASP.Net

  I am basically trying to do the same thing as this question, create a new application within a folder so it could be accessed as follows. * http://www.domain.com/ < Main App * http://www.domain.com/newapp < New App The problem is that newapp is reading the web.config from the Main App, which is causing errors because it doesn't have all the same dlls etc. For New App, in IIS, the starting point is set at /newapp, so I am not sure why it is reading the web.config from / at all. It is set as it's own application. I am testing this in IIS6 on XP Pro, so not sure if that makes a difference. The Main App is dotnet 1.1, and New App is 3.0. Edit: Adding 'inheritInChildApplications to <location doesn't work in 1.1, you get an error: Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'inheritInChildApplications'

• sqllite and populating list view, android

  I am populating a text and list view from a sqllite database. The data is populating from the cursor correctly (I see the list filling with text rows), but I'm not able to see the actual text in the rows - all I see are empty rows. For the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm not able to see the data in the text rows. • Adding a UserControl within another UserControl in Sharepoint 2007

  I am using WSPBuilder to create and deploy my web part from a user control, as shown here. This works perfectly well, but I have added another user control to the project. I am adding it in page_init by going the Page.LoadControl("~/_controltemplates/MyControl.ascx"); route. It builds successfully, but after adding it to the page, I get The referenced file '/MyControl.ascx' is not allowed on this page. This control is in the ControlTemplates folder in the hive. In the web.config for this sharepoint 2007 site, all items within _controltemplates are listed as safe, as shown here <SafeControl Src="~/_controltemplates/*" IncludeSubFolders="True" Safe="True" AllowRemoteDesigner="True" /> How do I get the ascx file to be allowed on the page and get this webpart to display successfully?

• Is it possible to use WinMerge inside Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Source Safe 6.0?

  I would like to use WinMerge as the default diff tool inside VS2008 from the solutions explorer in place of the "Compare..." context menu item. Is this possible? I'm looking for a quick replacement of the current bland diff tool an I just like WinMerge better. I'm not interested in going to the folder explorer and doing the comparison there. Im using Visual Source Safe 6.0 not TFS Is this possible? Thanks in advanced!

• Setting up a new Silverlight 4 Project with WCF RIA Services

  Many of my clients are actively using Silverlight 4 and RIA Services to build powerful line of business applications.  Getting things set up correctly is critical to being to being able to take full advantage of the RIA services plumbing and when developers struggle with the setup they tend to shy away from the solution as a whole.  I’m a big proponent of RIA services and wanted to take the opportunity to share some of my experiences in setting up these types of projects.  In late 2010 I presented a RIA Services Master Class here in St. Louis, MO through my firm (ArchitectNow) and the information shared in this post was promised during that presentation. One other thing I want to mention before diving in is the existence of a number of other great posts on this subject.  I’ve learned a lot from many of them and wanted to call out a few of them.  The purpose of my post is to point out some of the gotchas that people get caught up on in the process but I would still encourage you to do as much additional research as you can to find the perfect setup for your needs. Here are a few additional blog posts and articles you should check out on the subject: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee707351(VS.91).aspx http://adam-thompson.com/post/2010/07/03/Getting-Started-with-WCF-RIA-Services-for-Silverlight-4.aspx Technologies I don’t intend for this post to turn into a full WCF RIA Services tutorial but I did want to point out what technologies we will be using: Visual Studio.NET 2010 Silverlight 4.0 WCF RIA Services for Visual Studio 2010 Entity Framework 4.0 I also wanted to point out that the screenshots came from my personal development box which has a number of additional plug-ins and frameworks loaded so a few of the screenshots might not match 100% with what you see on your own machines. If you do not have Visual Studio 2010 you can download the express version from http://www.microsoft.com/express.  The Silverlight 4.0 tools and the WCF RIA Services components are installed via the Web Platform Installer (http://www.microsoft.com/web/download). Also, the examples given in this post are done in C#…sorry to you VB folks but the concepts are 100% identical. Setting up anew RIA Services Project This section will provide a step-by-step walkthrough of setting up a new RIA services project using a shared DLL for server side code and a simple Entity Framework model for data access.  All projects are created with the consistent ArchitectNow.RIAServices filename prefix and default namespace.  This would be modified to match your companies standards. First, open Visual Studio and open the new project window via File->New->Project.  In the New Project window, select the Silverlight folder in the Installed Templates section on the left and select “Silverlight Application” as your project type.  Verify your solution name and location are set appropriately.  Note that the project name we specified in the example below ends with .Client.  This indicates the name which will be given to our Silverlight project. I consider Silverlight a client-side technology and thus use this name to reflect that.  Click Ok to continue. During the creation on a new Silverlight 4 project you will be prompted with the following dialog to create a new web ASP.NET web project to host your Silverlight content.  As we are demonstrating the setup of a WCF RIA Services infrastructure, make sure the “Enable WCF RIA Services” option is checked and click OK.  Obviously, there are some other options here which have an effect on your solution and you are welcome to look around.  For our example we are going to leave the ASP.NET Web Application Project selected.  If you are interested in having your Silverlight project hosted in an MVC 2 application or a Web Site project these options are available as well.  Also, whichever web project type you select, the name can be modified here as well.  Note that it defaults to the same name as your Silverlight project with the addition of a .Web suffix. At this point, your full Silverlight 4 project and host ASP.NET Web Application should be created and will now display in your Visual Studio solution explorer as part of a single Visual Studio solution as follows: Now we want to add our WCF RIA Services projects to this same solution.  To do so, right-click on the Solution node in the solution explorer and select Add->New Project.  In the New Project dialog again select the Silverlight folder under the Visual C# node on the left and, in the main area of the screen, select the WCF RIA Services Class Library project template as shown below.  Make sure your project name is set appropriately as well.  For the sample below, we will name the project “ArchitectNow.RIAServices.Server.Entities”.   The .Server.Entities suffix we use is meant to simply indicate that this particular project will contain our WCF RIA Services entity classes (as you will see below).  Click OK to continue. Once you have created the WCF RIA Services Class Library specified above, Visual Studio will automatically add TWO projects to your solution.  The first will be an project called .Server.Entities (using our naming conventions) and the other will have the same name with a .Web extension.  The full solution (with all 4 projects) is shown in the image below.  The .Entities project will essentially remain empty and is actually a Silverlight 4 class library that will contain generated RIA Services domain objects.  It will be referenced by our front-end Silverlight project and thus allow for simplified sharing of code between the client and the server.   The .Entities.Web project is a .NET 4.0 class library into which we will put our data access code (via Entity Framework).  This is our server side code and business logic and the RIA Services plumbing will maintain a link between this project and the front end.  Specific entities such as our domain objects and other code we set to be shared will be copied automatically into the .Entities project to be used in both the front end and the back end. At this point, we want to do a little cleanup of the projects in our solution and we will do so by deleting the “Class1.cs” class from both the .Entities project and the .Entities.Web project.  (Has anyone ever intentionally named a class “Class1”?) Next, we need to configure a few references to make RIA Services work.  THIS IS A KEY STEP THAT CAUSES MANY HEADACHES FOR DEVELOPERS NEW TO THIS INFRASTRUCTURE! Using the Add References dialog in Visual Studio, add a project reference from the *.Client project (our Silverlight 4 client) to the *.Entities project (our RIA Services class library).  Next, again using the Add References dialog in Visual Studio, add a project reference from the *.Client.Web project (our ASP.NET host project) to the *.Entities.Web project (our back-end data services DLL).  To get to the Add References dialog, simply right-click on the project you with to add a reference to in the Visual Studio solution explorer and select “Add Reference” from the resulting context menu.  You will want to make sure these references are added as “Project” references to simplify your future debugging.  To reiterate the reference direction using the project names we have utilized in this example thus far:  .Client references .Entities and .Client.Web reference .Entities.Web.  If you have opted for a different naming convention, then the Silverlight project must reference the RIA Services Silverlight class library and the ASP.NET host project must reference the server-side class library. Next, we are going to add a new Entity Framework data model to our data services project (.Entities.Web).  We will do this by right clicking on this project (ArchitectNow.Server.Entities.Web in the above diagram) and selecting Add->New Project.  In the New Project dialog we will select ADO.NET Entity Data Model as in the following diagram.  For now we will call this simply SampleDataModel.edmx and click OK. It is worth pointing out that WCF RIA Services is in no way tied to the Entity Framework as a means of accessing data and any data access technology is supported (as long as the server side implementation maps to the RIA Services pattern which is a topic beyond the scope of this post).  We are using EF to quickly demonstrate the RIA Services concepts and setup infrastructure, as such, I am not providing a database schema with this post but am instead connecting to a small sample database on my local machine.  The following diagram shows a simple EF Data Model with two tables that I reverse engineered from a local data store.   If you are putting together your own solution, feel free to reverse engineer a few tables from any local database to which you have access. At this point, once you have an EF data model generated as an EDMX into your .Entites.Web project YOU MUST BUILD YOUR SOLUTION.  I know it seems strange to call that out but it important that the solution be built at this point for the next step to be successful.  Obviously, if you have any build errors, these must be addressed at this point. At this point we will add a RIA Services Domain Service to our .Entities.Web project (our server side code).  We will need to right-click on the .Entities.Web project and select Add->New Item.  In the Add New Item dialog, select Domain Service Class and verify the name of your new Domain Service is correct (ours is called SampleService.cs in the image below).  Next, click "Add”. After clicking “Add” to include the Domain Service Class in the selected project, you will be presented with the following dialog.  In it, you can choose which entities from the selected EDMX to include in your services and if they should be allowed to be edited (i.e. inserted, updated, or deleted) via this service.  If the “Available DataContext/ObjectContext classes” dropdown is empty, this indicates you have not yes successfully built your project after adding your EDMX.  I would also recommend verifying that the “Generate associated classes for metadata” option is selected.  Once you have selected the appropriate options, click “OK”. Once you have added the domain service class to the .Entities.Web project, the resulting solution should look similar to the following: Note that in the solution you now have a SampleDataModel.edmx which represents your EF data mapping to your database and a SampleService.cs which will contain a large amount of generated RIA Services code which RIA Services utilizes to access this data from the Silverlight front-end.  You will put all your server side data access code and logic into the SampleService.cs class.  The SampleService.metadata.cs class is for decorating the generated domain objects with attributes from the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace for validation purposes. FINAL AND KEY CONFIGURATION STEP!  One key step that causes significant headache to developers configuring RIA Services for the first time is the fact that, when we added the EDMX to the .Entities.Web project for our EF data access, a connection string was generated and placed within a newly generated App.Context file within that project.  While we didn’t point it out at the time you can see it in the image above.  This connection string will be required for the EF data model to successfully locate it’s data.  Also, when we added the Domain Service class to the .Entities.Web project, a number of RIA Services configuration options were added to the same App.Config file.   Unfortunately, when we ultimately begin to utilize the RIA Services infrastructure, our Silverlight UI will be making RIA services calls through the ASP.NET host project (i.e. .Client.Web).  This host project has a reference to the .Entities.Web project which actually contains the code so all will pass through correctly EXCEPT the fact that the host project will utilize it’s own Web.Config for any configuration settings.  For this reason we must now merge all the sections of the App.Config file in the .Entities.Web project into the Web.Config file in the .Client.Web project.  I know this is a bit tedious and I wish there were a simpler solution but it is required for our RIA Services Domain Service to be made available to the front end Silverlight project.  Much of this manual merge can be achieved by simply cutting and pasting from App.Config into Web.Config.  Unfortunately, the <system.webServer> section will exist in both and the contents of this section will need to be manually merged.  Fortunately, this is a step that needs to be taken only once per solution.  As you add additional data structures and Domain Services methods to the server no additional changes will be necessary to the Web.Config. Next Steps At this point, we have walked through the basic setup of a simple RIA services solution.  Unfortunately, there is still a lot to know about RIA services and we have not even begun to take advantage of the plumbing which we just configured (meaning we haven’t even made a single RIA services call).  I plan on posting a few more introductory posts over the next few weeks to take us to this step.  If you have any questions on the content in this post feel free to reach out to me via this Blog and I’ll gladly point you in (hopefully) the right direction. Resources Prior to closing out this post, I wanted to share a number or resources to help you get started with RIA services.  While I plan on posting more on the subject, I didn’t invent any of this stuff and wanted to give credit to the following areas for helping me put a lot of these pieces into place.   The books and online resources below will go a long way to making you extremely productive with RIA services in the shortest time possible.  The only thing required of you is the dedication to take advantage of the resources available. I have main.cpp in c:\test folder and do the following: qmake -project qmake -tp vc test.pro The answer is: WARNING: Unable to generate output for: C:/test//Makefile.Debug [TEMPLATE vcapp] WARNING: Unable to generate output for: C:/test//Makefile.Release [TEMPLATE vcapp] But, I don't need make files. I need .vcproj! Environment: Windows XP Pro SP3, MSVC 7.1 and 8.0. Qt is installed in C:\Qt\2010.02 (LGPL version). Commands are run from Qt Command Prompt. What's wrong with it? How to generate .sln/.vcproj? May I generate them for MSVC 7.1 and 8.0?

  I need a help with setting a random image using setImageResource method. In the drawable folder, I have a jpeg file named photo0.jpg, photo1.jpg...photo99.jpg. And the following code works: int p = R.drawable.photo1; image.setImageResource(p); The above will display photo1.jpg but I want to show a random image. I tried the following but it doesn't work. String a = "R.drawable.photo"; int n = (int) (Math.random()*100) String b = Integer.toString(n); String c = a+b; int p = Integer.parseInt(c);//checkpoint image.setImageResource(p); It seems like the string "R.drawable.photoXX" isn't being changed to integer at the checkpoint. Could someone please teach me a right code? Thank you in advance.

• Cannot find System.Web.Script.Service namespace error after upgrading to Visual studio 2010

  I've just upgraded a VS 2008 project to VS 2010, converting the project but keeping the target as .NET 3.5 (SP1 is installed). My project worked without issue under VS 2008 on another machine. I've added references to System.Web.Extensions.dll but I'm still getting the following errors from code in the App_Code folder: 1) Cannot find System.Web.Script.Service namespace 2) Type 'System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService' is not defined. 3) Type 'System.Runtime.Serialization.Json.DataContractJsonSerializer' is not defined. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be as I'm pretty stumped? :(

  I have an application where I am looking for a text file and if there are any changes made to the file I am using the onchanged eventhandler to handle the event. • Custom web.config in Visual Studio Setup Project

  Hi, In the Setup Project I have 2 web.config files: web.config - used during the development and web_dist.config - the one that should be included into Setup Project. I must be sure the the Setup project will NOT include the web.config and will always include web_dist.config. In the File System - Web Application Folder I have added the Content Files from the project. Also included the web_dist.config and mapped it to the web.config. But this gives the warning: WARNING: Two or more objects have the same target location ('[targetdir]\web.config') And the actual config file included is web.config and not web_dist.config. What would be the best option to include the web_dist.config (and named as web.config in the setup)? Thanks, Dmitriy.

• xperf won't use my DLL's pdb

  I'm attempting to use xperf to profile my (unmanaged) DLL which is loaded by another (managed) application. Basically, xperf isn't loading the symbols for my DLL; in the CPU usage summary, my DLL's function column says 'Unknown' xperf gives me: xperf: Using symbol path: C:\app\mydll\releaseu;SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols xperf: Using executable path: C:\app\mydll\releaseu;SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols xperf: Using SymCache path: \SymCache Where C:\app\mydll\releaseu is where my DLL's .pdb file is located. Using xperf -symbols or clicking Load Symbols in the viewer doesn't load my DLL's symbols. A folder for mydll isn't created in C:\Symbols, I'm only getting the symbols from Microsoft. Any idea how to make it work?

Under logs folder, in my machine it is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log, there are three kinds of files, ERRORLOG, ERRORLOG.1, ERRORLOG.2 ... ERRORLOG.6; FDLAUNCHERRORLOG, FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.1, FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.2, ... FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.6; log_207.trc, log_208.trc, ... My question is what are the differnet function of such log files? And why there are files ends with .1, .2, etc? thanks in advance, George
