    My company is evaluating the possibility of developing set of tools for Objective-C extending Xcode default functionality(basically we are thinking about providing better navigation,semantic search, more refactorings, quick fixes, improved code completion (visual assist inspired). So we would like to ask XCode/Objective-C developers: Do you feel that you are missing some features in XCode? What is your wish list? Are you considering the possibility of using addons to Xcode which are not created by Apple? Would you be willing to pay for these addons, or would you only consider free solutions?

    Hi I'm trying to implement the ViewTransitions code sample from Apple, but putting all the logic in my viewController instead of my applicationDelegate class. I'm getting a bizarre error when I try to compile. I'm importing QuartzCore in my viewcontroller implementation as #import _kCATransitionFade", referenced from: _kCATransitionFade$non_lazy_ptr in ViewTransitionsAsViewControllerViewController.o (maybe you meant: _kCATransitionFade$non_lazy_ptr) Anyone have any ideas?

  • Building a clip area in a UIView from path objects in its subviews

    I'm trying to produce a clipping area in a UIView that's generated from path objects in its subviews. For example, I might have one subview containing a square and another containing a circle. I want to be able to produce a clip in the parent superview that's the union of both these shapes. Can someone explain how to do this? About all I've been able to figure out so far is that: 1 - the superview's drawRect: method is called before its subviews' drawRects are, and 2 - the ContextRef that's accessible in all three instances is the same.     So I'm having pretty much exactly the problem described here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6191 and until the ViewFlipper issue in 2.1 and 2.2 has been resolved, I'm attempting to customize my own ViewFlipper in the manner described: @Override protected void onDetachedFromWindow() { try { super.onDetachedFromWindow(); } catch (IllegalArgumentException e) { // Call stopFlipping() in order to kick off updateRunning() stopFlipping(); } } But I've never done this sort of thing before and am hoping to get a little guidance (as my own efforts are coming up short).   • NSURLConnection request seems to disappear into thin air

    Hi Everybody! I'm having trouble with a NSURLConnection request. My app calls a routine called sayHello to identify a user's device. This code works fine for all devices I've tested it on, but for some devices the request just seems to disappear into thin air with no errors or popups on the device. One specific device that fails is an iPod Touch 2G running OS 3.1.3. The app start's fine and doesn't crash, and none of my error popup messages are displayed. I just can't understand why my server never receives the request since the call to initWithRequest returns a pointer. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.   • How listen for UIButton state change?

    I'm extending UIButton with generic functionality to change certain appearance attributes based on the displayed title. In order to do this, I need to detect and respond to changes in the "state" property. This is so I make sure the appearance is adjusted properly if the user has set different titles for different states. I assumed I would need to use some sort of KVO like the following: [self addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"state" options:NSKeyValueObservingOptionNew context:nil]; But this does not seem to fire the observeValueForKeyPath:... method for @"state" or @"currentTitle". I assume this is because UIButton does not implement the KVO pattern for those properties. I do not want to just listen for clicks. Those events cause a state change, but are not the only potential causes. Does anyone know a way to listen to and respond to state changes of a UIButton? Thanks

    I have a cameraoverlayview that allocates a UINavigationBar to the top of the screen like this - CGRect navbarFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 44); navigationBar = [[UINavigationBar alloc] initWithFrame:navbarFrame]; navigationBar.delegate = self; Now I want to add a UIBarButtonItem as the left button to the navigation bar, but the standard navigationbar.leftitem doesn't work. So I tried doing this - closebutton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:closebuttontext style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(close)]; navigationBar.topItem.leftBarButtonItem = closebutton; But it doesn't work either. Can anyone point me in the right direction? As far as the navigation bar loading up correctly in the cameraoverlayview, it works 100%.

That's completely unlogical since I had actually inverted the wrong coordinate system to look exactly like the one in UIView, right? What to do about it?

The following code works, but rotates around the original origo of the coordinate system (upper left hand corner) and not the translated location. Thus the image is not rotated around itself but around the upper left corner of the screen.   • Are Subversion 1.6 & Xcode 3.2 compatible?

    Trying to get Xcode to work with Subversion server. Server: Subversion upgraded to 1.6.9 (Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8) Client: Xcode 3.2.1 (Snow Leopard 10.6.2 with Subversion 1.6.5 though not sure that matters) Repository on server is setup and working fine via command line. However, I get an error when trying to create the Repository connection in Xcode: Error: 160043 (Unsupported FS format) Description: Expected FS format '2'; found format '4' a Google search seems to say that the server needs to be updated...but it's running 1.6.9 which is the most current version I'm aware of. Anyone know how to make this work? Is it even possible? I'm well aware of the command line usage but I would like to get Xcode & SVN talking... Revisiting this after some time: Using command line: username$ svn+ssh://hostname/Library/Subversion/Repository/test yields the same result: Description: Expected FS format '2'; found format Can anyone verify that I need to upgrade Subversion on the client machine to match version on server (1.6.9)?!? was hoping i wouldn't have to unless it was a "major" revision (ie. 1.5.x - 1.6.x)

  • Automatically created NSManagedObject subclasses don't use ARC

    My project is ARC enabled (the build settings have Objective-C Reference Counting set to YES). There are no file exceptions to this, it is enabled project wide. (Latest stable version of Xcode). When I create an NSManagedObject subclass via File New for a Core Data entity, the generated header uses the following in its property declarations: @property (nonatomic, retain) But 'retain' is not ARC!! Is this a bug, or is there something I'm missing or not understanding? There are no build warnings - if this is a bug though, how can I remedy it?
