• Any better algorithm possible here?

  I am trying to solve this problem in Python. Noting that only the first kiss requires the alternation, any kiss that is not a part of the chain due to the first kiss can very well have a hug on the 2nd next person, this is the code I have come up with. This is just a simple mathematical calculation, no looping, no iteration, nothing. But still I am getting a timed-out message. I was wondering if there can be any improvement in above code. Because in the statistics that program prints says: Parallel GC work balance: 1.01 (16940708 / 16772868, ideal 2) and SPARKS: 2 (1 converted, 0 overflowed, 0 dud, 0 GC'd, 1 fizzled) What are these converted , overflowed , dud, GC'd, fizzled and how can help to improve the time.

• Read random lines from huge CSV file in Python

  I have this quite big CSV file (15 Gb) and I need to read about 1 million random lines from it. As far as I can see - and implement - the CSV utility in Python only allows to iterate sequentially in the file. It's very memory consuming to read the all file into memory to use some random choosing and it's very time consuming to go trough all the file and discard some values and choose others, so, is there anyway to choose some random line from the CSV file and read only that line? • Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform

  I download the Gurobi package for linear programming. I import the corresponding gurobi.jar package. Then run the example program. Then it appears the following errors: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: C:\gurobi460\win64\win64\bin\GurobiJni46.dll: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform Then I downloaded the window 64 bit Jre, and use the "window--preference--Installed JRE" to install this new JRE. • Python IPC, popen too slow

  i need to run a subprocess (./myProgram) form python script and get output, actually i do this: import subprocess proc = subprocess.Popen('./generate_out', shell=False, stdout=subprocess.PIPE, ) while proc.poll() is None: out = proc.stdout.readline() data = doStuff(out) print(data) but is slow, sometimes pass a lot of time between the output produced by ./generate_out and the print(data), knowing that my doStuff() function is very fast, i think there is some buffer slowing down my pipe... Notes: ./generate_out, generates potentially an unlimited number of lines of finite length each. It seems that when too few chars are put in the pipe between the two processes nothing happens, then when enough is produced i get a huge print (non the expected behaviour!) sometimes i wait many seconds (10-20 and more) between generate_out print and python print) what can i do? maybe communicate() is faster? anithing else? • Can I automatically overwrite repository files using svn_load_dirs.pl or similiar?

  I am working with a legacy VSS repository which was transferred over to a new SVN repository a few months ago. In the meantime, before we go live with the SVN repository, we need to bring over all the changes that have happened on the VSS one between then and now. I was looking at different ways to do this which seem to be things such as: 1.) svn_load_dirs.pl then merge the files manually? 2.) svn import straight into the trunk and merge files manually 3.) checkout a working copy of my SVN repository, copy in the changed files which will overwrite some of the ones in my working copy then commit the changes. My question is, can any of these options be used (or any other options) to automate things so that I don't have to merge the files, and can instead just overwrite them? I think only Option 3 would do this but any help is appreciated.

  Hello, I've asked this before but I was hoping for another answer and perhaps some code samples because I've been having a difficult time with this. I have an asp.net page. The user hits the "Run" button and I have code IN AN ASSEMBLY, not in the APP_CODE folder that is called and runs a long process that moves product info from a file into the database. While the user waits, I would like them to see status updates like what product the import process in on and status info. I'm assuming I'd break off into another thread and use Ajax but I have no idea how to do this. Some code samples would be very helpful, thanks.

• Trouble creating stored procedure

  I'm messing around with stored procedures for the first time, but can't even create a simple select! I'm using phpMyAdmin and this is my SQL: DELIMITER // CREATE PROCEDURE test_select() BEGIN SELECT * FROM products LIMIT 10; END // DELIMITER ; After submitting that, my localhost does some thinking for a loooong time and eventually loads a page with no content called /phpmyadmin/import.php. After reloading phpMyAdmin and trying to invoke the procedure: CALL test_select(); I get a "PROCEDURE doesn't exist" error. Any ideas?

• XML Schema Header & Namespace Config

  Migrating from DTD to XSD and for some reason the transition is a bumpy one. I understand how to define the schema once I'm inside the <xs:schema> root tag, but getting past the header & namespace declaration stuff is proving to be especially confusing for me. I have been trying to follow the well-laid out tutorial on W3S but even that tutorial seems to assume a lot of knowledge up front. I guess what I'm looking for is a King's English explanation of which attributes do what, where they go, and why: xmlns xmlns:xs xmlns:xsi targetNamespace xsi:schemaLocation And in some cases I see different variations of these elements/attributes, such as xsi which seems to have two different notations like xsi:schemaLocation="..." and xs:import schemaLocation="...". I guess between all these slight variations I can't seem to make heads or tails of what each of these does. Thanks in advance for bringing any clarity to this confusion!

  Sorry for being a total beginner in cocoa and for asking the following stupid question, but it's too confusing for me to google it myself or maybe i'm just missing something. I need to run a shellscript with elevated privileges in cocoa. As i understand, "AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges" is the correct way to do it. So i've created an application and tried to use some code from one example i found online. The problem is ... if i understand it correctly ... there should be a Security framework in /System/Library/Frameworks that i have to import to the project, but ... it's not there. What am i missing here? Thank you.

• How to set the value of a wx.combobox by posting an event

  The code below demonstrates the problem I am running into. I am creating a wx.ComboBox and trying to mimic it's functionality for testing purposes by posting a wxEVT_COMMAND_COMBOBOX_SELECTED event... this event strangely works fine for wx.Choice, but it doesn't do anything to the ComboBox. There doesn't appear to be a different event that I can post to the combobox, but maybe I'm missing something.   I have 3 xsd files: a.xsd b.xsd shared.xsd shared.xsd is imported to both a.xsd and b.xsd using <xs:import schemaLocation="shared.xsd"/> shared.xsd defines <xs:element name="item"> <xs:complexType> .... If I generate java code using xjc a.xsd and b.xsd is generated into different packages and in each package a separate java class is generated for item. How would it be possible to have a single shared class for item and make a and b use it?

  I'm trying to write a Java app that imports a data file. The process is as follows Create Transaction Delete all rows from datatable Load data file into datatable Commit OR Rollback if any errors were encountered. The data loaded in step 3 is mostly the same as the data deleted in step3. The deletion is performed using the following DetachedCriteria criteria = DetachedCriteria.forClass(myObject.class); List<myObject> myObjects = hibernateTemplate.findByCriteria(criteria); hibernateTemplate.deleteAll(myObjects); When I then load the datafile, i get the following exception nested exception is org.hibernate.NonUniqueObjectException: a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session: The whole process needs to take place in transaction. And I don't really want to have to compare the import file / data table and then perform an insert/update/delete to get them into sync. Any help would be appreciated.

• Incremental Compilation in Eclipse. ASTNode-s and SVN versioning

  Hi there, I am building up some statistics after analyzing the source code in eclipse. But the overall process is too slow because i rebuild my model every time from scratch after each compilation. I am looking for a way to get only the changed parts of the code (as ASTNodes) and to rebuild just that part of my model. I suppose that even the changed compilation units and not the exact code elements would be enough after the user compiles and still would be a nice optimization. I am sure eclipse is capable of knowing what code elements are changed (and even to know their semantics), because when I use the subclipse plugin my changes are ordered by a code element (an import, a method, a variable declaration, etc). Well.. at least that plugin is capable of knowing that info. Thanks in advance
