• Obtaining MAC address

  According to Obtain client MAC address in ASP.NET Application, it is not possible. I am not entirely convinced because whenever I connect to Tim Hortons WiFi, my MAC address is known. Occasionally, the network is slow and I see this URL like this before being redirected to the Connect page: http://timhortonswifi.com/cp/tdl3/index.asp ?cmd=login &switchip=172.30.129.73 &mac=60:6c:66:17:1a:83 &ip=10.40.66.229 &essid=Tim%20Hortons%20WiFi &apname=TDL-ON-NEP-02177-WAP1 &apgroup=02177 &url=http%3A%2F%2Fweather%2Egc%2Eca%2Fcity%2Fpages%2Fon-72_metric_e%2Ehtml So according to this URL, the site knows the IP address of the router, my MAC address, the IP address assigned to my device by the router, the network SSID, some other pieces of information, and the URL I was trying to access prior to connecting. There's two options: Tim Hortons WiFi Basic and Tim Hortons WiFi Plus, where the "Plus" option allows me to connect to any Tim Hortons WiFi access point in Canada automatically with this device. Registration requires an email address, so I'm assuming this is possible by checking the MAC address and storing it in a database that routers ping upon connection. More info here. According to the extension of this page, I can safely assume it is ASP. How are they obtaining this information?

• Not able to save extjs combo using grails controller

  Hi all, I am a newbie to grails/extjs I am developing a web based config tool for my team .My issue is with comboboxes of extjs I have three remote comboxes(many to one hibernate mappng).I am using hiddenName to submit its value field(which is id primay key of database) instead of its display field which is name which i get by rendering it as json.some how I see that if I select diff index other than which is loaded from db and try updating it.it definitely sends it as params but in save method of grails its not updated. I want to understand Why?   I'm using DataAnnotations attributes to validate my model objects. My model class looks similar to this: public class MyModel { [Required] public string Title { get; set; } [Required] public List<User> Editors { get; set; } } public class User { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] public string FullName { get; set; } [Required] [DataType(DataType.Email)] public string Email { get; set; } } My controller action looks like: public ActionResult NewItem(MyModel data) { //... } User is presented with a view that has a form with: a text box with dummy name where users enter user's names. For each user they enter, there's a client script coupled with ajax that creates an <input type="hidden" name="data.Editors[0].Id" value="userId" /> for each user entered (enumeration index is therefore not always 0 as written here), so default model binder is able to consume and bind the form without any problems. a text box where users enter the title Since I'm using Asp.net MVC 2 RTM which does model validation instead of input validation I don't know how to avoid validation errors. The thing is I have to use BindAttribute on my controller action. I would have to either provide a white or a black list of properties. It's always a better practice to provide a white list. It's also more future proof. The problem My form works fine, but I get validation errors about user's FullName and Email properties since they are not provided. I also shouldn't feed them to the client (via ajax when user enters user data), because email is personal contact data and is not shared between users. If there was just a single user reference on MyModel I would write [Bind(Include = "Title, Editor.Id")] But I have an enumeration of them. How do I provide Bind white list to work with my model?

  I need to maintain a large list of python pickleable objects that will quickly execute the following algorithm: The list will have 4 pointers and can: Read\Write each of the 4 pointed nodes Insert new nodes before the pointed nodes Increase a pointer by 1 Pop nodes from the beginning of the list (without overlapping the pointers) Add nodes at the end of the list The list can be very large (300-400 MB), so it shouldnt be contained in the RAM. The nodes are small (100-200 bytes) but can contain various types of data. The most efficient way it can be done, in my opinion, is to implement some paging-mechanism. On the harddrive there will be some database of a linked-list of pages where in every moment up to 5 of them are loaded in the memory. On insertion, if some max-page-size was reached, the page will be splitted to 2 small pages, and on pointer increment, if a pointer is increased beyond its loaded page, the following page will be loaded instead. This is a good solution, but I don't have the time to write it, especially if I want to make it generic and implement all the python-list features. Using a SQL tables is not good either, since I'll need to implement a complex index-key mechanism. I tried ZODB and zc.blist, which implement a BTree based list that can be stored in a ZODB database file, but I don't know how to configure it so the above features will run in reasonable time. I don't need all the multi-threading\transactioning features. No one else will touch the database-file except for my single-thread program. Can anyone explain me how to configure the ZODB\zc.blist so the above features will run fast, or show me a different large-list implementation?

But when I did an edit to a file and then do a 'git commit -a -m "test"' and then do a git push.   Hey folks, I'm migrating a Website from Rails 2 (latest) to Rails 3 (beta2). Testing with Ruby 1.9.1p378 and Ruby 1.9.2dev (2010-04-05 trunk 27225) Stuck in a situation, i don't know which part will work well. Suspect yield is the problem, but don't know exactly. In my Layout Files I use the following technique quite often: app/views/layouts/application.html.erb: <%= yield(:sidebar) || render('shared/sidebar') %> For Example the partial look like: app/views/shared/_sidebar.html.erb: <p>Default sidebar Content. Bla Bla</p> Now it is time for the key part! In any view, I want to create a content_for block (optional). This can contain a pice of HTML etc. example below. If this block is set, the pice HTML inside should render in application.html.erb. If not, Rails should render the Partial at shared/_sidebar.html.erb on the right hand side. app/views/books/index.html.erb: <% content_for :sidebar do %> <strong>You have to read REWORK, a book from 37signals!</strong> <% end %> So you've got the idea. Hopefully. This technique worked well in any Rails 2.x Application. Now, in Rails 3 (beta2) only the yield Part is working. || render('shared/sidebar') The or side will not process by rails or maybe ruby. Thanks for input and time!

  I'm looking for a method of how to change the contents of a div when an option on a select dropdown is selected. • Unable to install Management Studio Express 2008 due to Visual Studio 2008 installation

  I am attempting to install Managment Studio Express 2008 on a Win7 system that already has Visual Studio 2008 installed. I have installed VS 2008 SP1, which results in the About box for Visual Studio giving a version of 9.0.30792.1 SP. When I attempt the Management Studio installation I see a message that tells me that I must install SP1. However, this is already installed. After a fair bit of searching I came across the link below, where someone had commented with a command line option for the installation executable that forced it to skip the check. However, this simply pushed the error to later in the installation process. http://www.thushanfernando.com/index.php/2008/08/10/fix-rule-previous-releases-of-microsoft-visual-studio-2008-failed/. This seems to be a perennial problem for Microsoft. I can't remember a time when I've painlessly installed both Management Studio and Visual Studio. I can't imagine that this is an unusual combination, after all! Anyone had any success in solving this problem before I take on the day-long task of uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio and all its associated bits?

• Django inlineformset validation and delete

  Hi, Can someone tell me if a form in an inlineformset should go through validation if the DELETE field is checked. I have a form that uses an inlineformset and when I check the DELETE box it fails because the required fields are blank. If I put data in the fields it will pass validation and then be deleted. Is that how it is supposed to work, I would have thought that if it is marked for delete it would bypass the validation for that form. Regards Andrew Follow up - but I would still appreciate some others opinions/help What I have figured out is that for validation to work the a formset form must either be empty or complete(valid) otherwise it will have errors when it is created and will not be deleted. As I have a couple of hidden fields in my formset forms and they are pre-populated when the page loads via javascript the form fails validation on the other required fields which might still be blank. The way I have gotten around this by adding in a check in the add_fields that tests if the DELETE input is True and if it is it makes all fields on the form not required, which means it passes validation and will then delete. def add_fields(self, form, index) #add other fields that are required.... deleteValue = form.fields['DELETE'].widget.value_from datadict(form.data, form.files, form.add_prefix('DELETE')) if bool(deleteValue) or deleteValue == '': for name, field in form.fields.items(): form.fields[name].required= False This seems to be an odd way to do things but I cannot figure out another way. Is there a simpler way that I am missing? I have also noticed that when I add the new form to my page and check the Delete box, there is no value passed back via the request, however an existing form (one loaded from the database) has a value of on when the Delete box is checked. • Why does ICEfaces send dispose-window request on page unload when using view-scoped bean?

  in our application ICEfaces always sends a dispose-window request just before navigating to another JSF Page. as much as i understand this should not happen when having org.icefaces.lazyWindowScope set to true and there is no window-scoped bean involved in current request. but it happens on each link and makes our UI less responsive. but we don't have any window-scoped bean in our application. is that a bug in icefaces that the dispose request is sent when using view-scoped beans? Is it possible to disable? • WPF ComboBox IsSynchronised Default Value

  I am trying to display a default value (or even NO value) when selected index is -1, or selecteditem is null. This normally works perfectly fine but when I enable IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem and set it to True, the first value in my DataTable gets displayed. How can I have both IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem ="True" and show no/default value when it is loaded. • Using Hibernate's ScrollableResults to slowly read 90 million records

  I simply need to read each row in a table in my MySQL database using Hibernate and write a file based on it. But there are 90 million rows and they are pretty big. So it seemed like the following would be appropriate: ScrollableResults results = session.createQuery("SELECT person FROM Person person") .setReadOnly(true).setCacheable(false).scroll(ScrollMode.FORWARD_ONLY); while (results.next()) storeInFile(results.get()[0]); The problem is the above will try and load all 90 million rows into RAM before moving on to the while loop... and that will kill my memory with OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space exceptions :(. So I guess ScrollableResults isn't what I was looking for? What is the proper way to handle this? I don't mind if this while loop takes days (well I'd love it to not). I guess the only other way to handle this is to use setFirstResult and setMaxResults to iterate through the results and just use regular Hibernate results instead of ScrollableResults. That feels like it will be inefficient though and will start taking a ridiculously long time when I'm calling setFirstResult on the 89 millionth row... UPDATE: setFirstResult/setMaxResults doesn't work, it turns out to take an unusably long time to get to the offsets like I feared. There must be a solution here! Isn't this a pretty standard procedure?? I'm willing to forgo Hibernate and use JDBC or whatever it takes. UPDATE 2: the solution I've come up with which works ok, not great, is basically of the form: select * from person where id > <offset> and <other_conditions> limit 1 Since I have other conditions, even all in an index, it's still not as fast as I'd like it to be... so still open for other suggestions..

  Dear Devs From couple of days i am thinking of a following scenario Consider I have 2 tables with parent child relationship of kind one-to-many. On removal of parent row i have to delete the rows in child those are related to parents. simple right? i have to make a transaction scope to do above operation i can do this as following; (its psuedo code but i am doing this in c# code using odbc connection and database is sql server) begin transaction(read committed) Read all child where child.fk = p1 foreach(child) delete child where child.pk = cx delete parent where parent.pk = p1 commit trans OR begin transaction(read committed) delete all child where child.fk = p1 delete parent where parent.pk = p1 commit trans Now there are couple of questions in my mind Which one of above is better to use specially considering a scenario of real time system where thousands of other operations(select/update/delete/insert) are being performed within a span of seconds. does it ensure that no new child with child.fk = p1 will be added until transaction completes? If yes for 2nd question then how it ensures? do it take the table level locks or what. Is there any kind of Index locking supported by sql server if yes what it does and how it can be used.   I have an Action Method that I'd either like to return JSON from on one condition or redirect on another condition. I thought that I could do this by returning ActionResult from my method but doing this causes the error "not all code paths return a value" Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? But when I refresh the page, by hitting the refresh button in firefox, the label shows value 0 (as it's supposed to) but the dropdownlist shows 5. I checked the page html source and the dropdown has selected value 0, but shows 5. However, When I refresh the page by putting cursor in address bar and press enter everythig works fine (drowdownlist shows 0). The problem occurs only in FireFox (I've got version 3.5.7). Any ideas what can cause this problem?

  Based on this documentation, I've implemented a catch all route which routes to an error page. Here is the last route in my bootstrap.php Route::set('default', '<path>', array('path' => '.+')) ->defaults(array( 'controller' => 'errors', 'action' => '404', )); However I keep getting this exception thrown when I try and go to a non existent page Kohana_Exception [ 0 ]: Required route parameter not passed: path If I make the <path> segment optional (i.e. wrap it in parenthesis) then it just seems to load the home route, which is... • Inserting variable into routes - map.resources :posts, :as => X - is this possible?

  Ok, so I am working on a blog application of sorts. Thus far, it allows for a user to sign up for their own account, create posts, tags, comments, etc. I have just implemented the ability to use www.myapp.com/brandon to set @user to find by username and therefore correctly display the users information at each url. So when you go to www.myapp.com/brandon you see all Brandon's posts, tags, and comments associated with those posts, etc. Works great. I'm implementing this URL mapping through the routes.rb file by adding the following: map.username_link '/:username', :controller => 'posts', :action => 'index' And then just setting the @user variable in the PostController and corresponding views to find_by_username. Now the issue is this. Once at www.myapp.com/brandon when you click on a post title, it sends to myapp.com/posts/id without the username in the URL. How do I tell rails to replace the /posts with /username. Is it even possible to insert the user_username variable into this code? map.resources :posts, :as => [what goes here]

  Okay i'm experiencing some problems with the actionlink htmlhelper. I have some complicated routing as follows: routes.MapRoute("Groep_Dashboard_Route", // Route name "{EventName}/{GroupID}/Dashboard", // url with Paramters new {controller = "Group", action="Dashboard"}); routes.MapRoute("Event_Groep_Route", // Route name "{EventName}/{GroupID}/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new {controller = "Home", action = "Index"}); My problem is generating action links that match these patterns. The eventname parameter is really just for having a user friendly link. it doesn't do anything. Now when i'm trying for example to generate a link. that shows the dashboard of a certain groep. Like: mysite.com/testevent/20/Dashboard I'll use the following actionlink: <%: Html.ActionLink("Show dashboard", "Group", "Dashboard", new { EventName_Url = "test", GroepID = item.groepID}, null)%> What my actual result in html gives is: <a href="">Show Dashboard</a> Please bear with me i'm still new at ASP MVC. • How to map IDictionary<string, object> in Fluent NHibernate?

  I am looking to persist user preferences into a collection of name value pairs, where the value may be an int, bool, or string. There are a few ways to skin this cat, but the most convenient method I can think of is something like this: public class User { public virtual IDictionary<string, object> Preferences { get; set; } } with its usage as: user.Preferences["preference1"] = "some value"; user.Preferences["preference2"] = 10; user.Preferences["preference3"] = true; var pref = (int)user.Preferences["preference2"]; I'm not sure how to map this in Fluent NHibernate, though I do think it is possible. Generally, you would map a simpler Dictionary<string, string> as: HasMany(x => x.Preferences) .Table("Preferences") .AsMap("preferenceName") .Element("preferenceValue"); But with a type of 'object', NHibernate doesn't know how to deal with it. I imagine a custom UserType could be created that breaks an 'object' down to a string representing its Type and a string representing the value. We would have a table that looks kind of like this: Table Preferences userId (int) preferenceName (varchar) preferenceValue (varchar) preferenceValueType (varchar) and the hibernate mapping would like this: <map name="Preferences" table="Preferences"> <key column="userId"></key> <index column="preferenceName" type="String" /> <element type="ObjectAsStringUserType, Assembly"> <column name="preferenceValue" /> <column name="preferenceValueType"/> </element> </map> I'm not sure how you would map this in Fluent NHibernate.
