• JBoss 6 unpacks jars from WEB-INF/lib of war

  when I start JBoss 6 I see that it unpacks all jar files from WEB-INF/lib in tmp/vfs/automountXXX folder. E.g. jackrabbit-server.war contains library asm-3.1.jar, then in tmp folder I see the following folders with files: asm-3.1.jar-83dc35ead0d41d41/asm-3.1.jar asm-3.1.jar-2a48f1c13ec7f25d/contents/"unpacked asm-3.1.jar" it does not take files from my.ear/lib only WEB-INF/lib... Why is it so? And is here any way to prevent it doing so? It just slows down application server starting (and stopping), what is not that comfortable at development... If it is somehow related to JavaEE 6 specification and ejb-jars, which can be located now in WEB-INF/lib, so I don't have such libraries in my war files... UPDATE: actually when I repack jackrabbit-server.war to jackrabbit-server.ear which contains jackrabbit-server.war and moved all its libraries to jackrabbit-server.ear/lib then I still see two folders in tmp: asm-3.1.jar-215a36131ebb088e/asm-3.1.jar asm-3.1.jar-14695f157664f00/contents/ but in this case last folder is empty. So it still creates two folders, but does not unpack my library. Also I use exploded deployment so the question is only about jar files, not unpacking ear/war.

• SOAP web services in haskell?

  I have to write a bunch of small web services. They must be defined by a WSDL and work via SOAP-RPC, in order to work with an existing workflow engine and service registry framework. I can, however, serve them on a service stack/platform of my choice. I'm presently writing them in Java, and it's not too bad. But I'm thinking my life might be easier if I was able to write these services in Haskell. Searching on Google, it looks like, once upon a time, someone else had the same idea and started a project called "HAIFA". However, it looks like HAIFA hasn't been maintained for some years, and I couldn't find any other frameworks supporting serving up services written in Haskell as SOAP web services. Does anyone know of any other frameworks that will allow me to easily write SOAP-based web services using Haskell? If not, has anyone done this manually (i.e., use XML libraries from hackage to process the incoming soap-rpc requests, and create soap-rpc compliant replies)? Was it difficult to do? Any gotchas? Was it worth the effort? Thanks in advance!

• Where to store site settings: DB? XML? CONFIG? CLASS FILES?

  I am re-building a news portal of which already have a large number of visits every day. One of the major concerns when re-building this site was to maximize performance and speed. Having said this, we have done many things from caching, to all sort of other measures to ensure speed. Now towards the end of the project, I am having a dilemma of where to store my site settings that would least affect performance. The site settings will include things such as: Domain, DefaultImgPath, Google Analytics code, default emails of editors as well as more dynamic design/display feature settings such as the background color of specific DIVs and default color for links etc.. As far as I know, I have 4 choices in storing all these info. Database: Storing general settings in the DB and caching them may be a solution however, I want to limit the access to the database for only necessary and essential functions of the project which generally are insert/update/delete news items, author articles etc.. XML: I can store these settings in an XML file but I have not done this sort of thing before so I don't know what kind of problems -if any- I might face in the future. CONFIG: I can also store these settings in web.config CLASS FILE: I can hard code all these settings in a SiteSettings class, but since the site admin himself will be able to edit these settings, It may not be the best solution. Currently, I am more close to choosing web.config but letting people fiddle with it too often is something I do not want. E.g. if somehow, I miss out a validation for something and it breaks the web.config, the whole site will go down. My concern basically is that, I cannot forsee any possible consequences of using any of the methods above (or is there any other?), I was hoping to get this question over to more experienced people out here who hopefully help make my decision.

  Hello guys! Could you please suggest me what kind of software should I use to broadcast live video from webcam? Web-cam is connected via USB to my server. I want to broadcast video from my webcam on my web-page (HTML, ASP.NET - doesn't matter). I don't want to develop video broadcasting from the beginning - it takes a lot of time to implement good system. I'm looking for ready-to-use plug-in/widget for my site. I found ustream.tv, but live video start playing with delay about 2 seconds... You know, it's not real-time. I need something like Skype/icq/ooVoo... plug-in/widget for my web-site. Are these plug-ins exists in internet? P.S. I know that VideoLAN has ActiveX control. Does VLC provide me with real-time video broadcasting from webcam without any delays like Skype? Thank you!

• iphone file download not working

  Hi, In my app I 'm first connecting to a web service, which in return sends a url for a file. I use the url to download the file and then display it on the new view. I get the correct URL but not able to download file from that location. I have another test app which will download file from the same location and it works like a charm. following is my code for webservice-file download. This is a snippet of the code where i 'm parsing the web service xml and then pass the result to NSData for file download. • What technologies/tools do people use to implement live websites ?

  Hi, I have the following situation: -I have a server A hooked up to a piece of hardware that sends values and information out of every second. Programs on the server machine can read these values. This server A is in a very remote location so Internet connection is very slow and not reliable but the connection does exist. Let's say it's a weather station in the Arctic. -Users from the home location want to monitorize the weather values somehow. Well, the users can use a remote desktop connection the server A but that would be too too slow. My idea is somehow to have a website on a web server (let's call the webserver - B and B is in a home location ) and make the server A connect to the server B and somehow send values and the web application reads the values and displays them....... but how to do such a system ?? I know I can use MySQL and have the server A connect to a SQL server on server B and send INSERT queries and have the web application running on server B constantly read from the SQL server but I think that would be way way too slow and I think there has to be a better solution. Any ideas ? BTW. The users should be able to send information to the weather station from the website as well ( so an ADMIN user should be allowed to shut down the weather station from the website or whatever) Best regards, MadSeb

• Integrated Windows authentication in IIS causing ADO.NET failure

  We have a .NET 3.5 Web Service running under IIS. It must use identity impersonate="true" and Integrated Windows authentication in order to authenticate to third-party software. In addition, it connects to a SQL Server database using ADO.NET and SQL Server Authentication (specifying a fixed User ID and Password in the connection string). Everything worked fine until the database was moved to another SQL Server. Then the Web Service would throw the following exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) This error only occurs if identity impersonate is true in the Web.config. Again, the connection string hasn't changed and it specifies the user. I have tested the connection string and it works, both under the impersonated account and under the service account (and from both the remote machine and the server). What needs to be changed to get this to work with impersonation?

• How To Run MSBuild scripts in .wixproj?

  Im trying to learn to make a web installer using Windows Installer XML (WIX 3.5). I found this blog about using msbuild in .wixproj files to avoid the scenario where the installer ends up dropping the web project assemblies right in the root of the app instead of keeping them in the bin folder like they're supposed to be. According to the instruction after adding the MSBuild script: "When that target runs, you'll see a .wxs file pop out in the .wixproj project folder. Add the generated .wxs to your .wixproj project so it knows to include it in the build." I really don7t know what this means. How can I run the target? I tried to build it but there was no .wxs file generated in the .wixproj folder. Am I missing something? Please help...

• Best Method For High Data Availability for SQL Server

  I have a web service that runs 24/7. Periodically it needs to refresh its database with data from another web service. There is a lot of data. It's tens of thousands of rows. (no, I don't mean this is a lot of data for SQL Server, just trying to point out that I expect it to take some time to come down the pipe from the other web service) The data refresh can take between 5 and 10 minutes. The actual data update portion of that is between 1 and 2 minutes. This means the service would be down for all intents and purposes when consumers would be requesting this type of data. I would like to implement a system where data is always available. The only thing that comes to mind is some type of system where I maintain two separate databases. I populate the inactive one, swapping it to active before populating the other one. I'm not sure I know the best way to do this. My current ideas just revolve around two sets of the schema in a single database (using views to access the active set) or two databases each with the same schema. The application would rotate between the two databases. Any suggestions from someone who has done something like this before?

• Are workflows good for web service business logic?

  I have a series of complex web services that are getting used in my SOA application. I am generally happy with the overall design of the application, but as the complexity grows, I was wondering if Windows Workflow might be the way to go. My motivations for this are that you can get a graphic representation of the applications functionality, so it would be easier to maintain the code by its business function, rather than what I have now ( a standard 3 tier class library structure). My concerns are: I would be inducing an abstraction in my code, and I don't want to spend time having to deal with possible WF quirks or bugs. I've never worked with WF, is it a solid technology? I don't want to hit any WF limitations that prevent me from developing my solution. Is a WF even the right solution for the task? Simply put I am considering writing my next web service in this app to call a WF, and in this work flow manage the tasks the web service needs to carry out. I think it will be much neater and easier to maintain than a regular c# class library (maintainable by namespaces, classes ). Do you think this is the right thing to do? I'm hoping for positive feedback on WF (.net 4), but brutal honestly at the end of the day would help more. Thanks

  I have created a web app version of my previous crawler app and the initial form has controls to allow the client to make selections and start a search 'job'. These searches 'jobs' will be run my different threads created individually and added to a list to keep track of. Now the idea is to have another web form that will display this list of 'jobs' and their current status and will allow the jobs to be cancelled or removed only from the server side. This second form contains a grid to display these jobs. Now I have no idea if I should create the threads in the initial form code or send all user input to my main class which runs the search and if so how do I pass the the thread list to the second form to have it displayed on the grid. Any ideas really appreciated. • How to secure connection strings in VS?

  I see several others have posted this question, however, none of the solutions I've tried have fixed this yet. I have a 32-bit XP running VS 2008 and I am trying to encrypt my connection string in my web.config file. But I am getting the error: The configuration section '...' was not found. Failed! The command I give it: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VCAspnet_regiis.exe -pe "system.we b/AdventureWorksConnectionString2" -app "/Documents and Settings/Admin/My Docume nts/Visual Studio 2008/Projects/AddFileToSQL2" Also, how does -app map virtual directory? In other words the path above is the directory right below c:. Is this the correct path to use? And AddFileToSQL2 is the name of my project, although it is part of the AddFileToSQL solution. I have this folder web shared with all of the permissions. I want to deny all users who try to enter the site. It works however, it redirects to a "Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2flogin" url I have never heard of... Is there a place I can change this?

  Hello! I need to develop a tool for web log data mining. Having many sequences of urls, requested in a particular user session (retrieved from web-application logs), I need to figure out the patterns of usage and groups (clusters) of users of the website. I am new to Data Mining, and now examining Google a lot. Found some useful info, i.e. querying Frequent Pattern Mining in Web Log Data seems to point to almost exactly similar studies. So my questions are: Are there any python-based tools that do what I need or at least smth similar? Can Orange toolkit be of any help? Can reading the book Programming Collective Intelligence be of any help? What to Google for, what to read, which relatively simple algorithms to use best? I am very limited in time (to around a week), so any help would be extremely precious. What I need is to point me into the right direction and the advice of how to accomplish the task in the shortest time. Thanks in advance!

• Python script web service timeout

  We have had a Python script running for many months now that simply scans through a directory of files, and posts each file to our web site via a web service call. The web site is also written in Python. For no apparent reason, this morning this script started throwing the following error: urllib2.URLError: <urlopen error (10060, 'Operation timed out')> The site itself is up and running just fine. There are no indications of any errors. The developer that was working on this site is no longer with us, and we do not have a strong Python developer on staff as we are moving away from that. Before I do an all nighter and rewrite this thing in C#, I wanted to see if anyone had any experience dealing with this issue. I do know that the script is connecting to a secure site (HTTPS), so I am not sure if something has come up with that, and I honestly dont know where to look to determine that. As I said before, the site itself isn't showing any signs of error, including SSL. Any thoughts?

• Mapping a URL to a service inside a class library

  I'm developing a small content management solution than can be used in any ASP.NET 3.5 website. The website references some dll's and then lets the aspx's inherit my page baseclass. Some configuration in web.config is also needed, but thats it. Now I'm building a standalone Silverlight editor for the CMS. My idea is that it should communicate with the server using web services. But the question is how to make this service available to the editor? I don't want the website developers having to bother with it. If I used a REST API rather than SOAP I could just create an HttpHandler in my class library and let the website developers add a handler to it in web.config with the path "editor" and then the editor could communicate with that handler on mywebsite.com/editor. Is there any way to achieve the same with a asmx or wcf service? The important thing is that the website developers never have to set up any asmx files or anything. They should only have to specify a url and map that url to a service inside my class library. Thanks in advance!

• All PHP sites stopped working on IIS7, internal server error 500

  I installed multiple drupal 7 sites using the Web Platform Installer on Windows Server 2008. Until know they worked without any problems, but recently internal server error 500 started to show up (once every so many requests), now it happens for all requests to any of the php sites. This is in the global php configuration in IIS When I looked at the sites one by one, I noticed that PHP seemed to have been disabled. PHP is not enabled. Register new PHP version to enable PHP via FastCGI So I tried to register the php version again C:\Program Files\PHP\v5.3\php-cgi.exe But when I try to apply the changes I get There was an error while performing this operation Details: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object There doesn't seem to be any other information than that. I have no idea why all of a sudden php isn't available for the sites anymore. PS: I have rebooted IIS, the server, etc... This server is hosted on amazon S3, so I gave the server some more power Update These seem to be two different issues I used memory_limit=128MB instead of memory_limit=128M Notice the "M" instead of "MB" A memory_limit of 128M was not enough, had to increase it to 512M The first issue caused internal server errors for every request. Increasing to 512MB seemed to have solved the problem for a little while, but after a while the server errors return. Note that the PHP manager inside of IIS still shows there is no PHP available for the sites (the global config does see it as available) So the problem remains unsolved

• CSS rules not getting applied in JSPs ?

  Im building a web application using struts2. I have an authentication interceptor at the top of all the interceptors (I have set it up as such) which checks whether a user is logged in. If not, it will give a login page as result. In login page, I have some set of standard CSS rules which I use for all the JSPs in the app. But that login page coming via that interceptor is not getting applied with CSS rules. Don't know why. • Arbitrary Form Processing with Drupal

  I am writing a module for my organization to cache XML feeds to static files to an arbitrary place on our webserver. I am new at Drupal development, and would like to know if I am approaching this the right way. Basically I: Expose a url via the menu hook, where a user can enter in a an output directory on the webserver and press the "dump" button and then have PHP go to drupal and get the feed xml. I don't need help with that functionality, because I actually have a prototype working in Python (outside of Drupal).. Provide a callback for the form where I can do my logic, using the form parameters. • Issues in Ajax based applications

  I'm very interested in developing Ajax based applications. This is, loading almost all of the content of the application via XMLHttpRequest, instead of only some combos and widgets. But if I try to do this form scratch, soon I find some problems without an easy solution. I wonder if there is some framework (both client and server side) to deal with this issues. As far as I know, there isn't (but I've searched mainly in Java world). So I am seriously thinking of doing my own framework, at least for my projects. Therefore, in this question I ask for several things. First, the possible problems of an ajax based development. Then, I'm looking for some framework or utility in order to deal with them. Finally, if there is no framework available, what features must it have. Here are the issues I thought: 1 - JavaScript must be enabled. Security paranoia isn't the only problem: a lot of mobile devices couldn't use the application, too. 2 - Sometimes you need to update more than one DIV (e.g. main content, menu and breadcrumbs). 3 - Unknown response type: when you make an Ajax call, you set the callback function too, usually specifying if expected response is a javascript object or in which DIV put the result. But this fails when you get another type of response: for example when the session has expired and the user must log in again. 4 - Browser's refresh, back and forward buttons can be a real pain. User will expect different behaviors depending on the situation. 5 - When search engines indexes a site, only follow links. Thus, content load by Ajax won't "exist" for who doesn't know about it yet. 6 - Users can ask for open a link in a different window/tab. 7 - Address bar doesn't show the "real" page you are in. • Setting up a VPN connection to Amazon VPC - routing

  I am having some real issues setting up a VPN between out office and AWS VPC. The "tunnels" appear to be up, however I don't know if they are configured correctly. The device I am using is a Netgear VPN Firewall - FVS336GV2 If you see in the attached config downloaded from VPC (#3 Tunnel Interface Configuration), it gives me some "inside" addresses for the tunnel. When setting up the IPsec tunnels do I use the inside tunnel IP's (e.g. 169.254.254.2/30) or do I use my internal network subnet (10.1.1.0/24) I have tried both, when I tried the local network (10.1.1.x) the tracert stops at the router. When I tried with the "inside" ips, the tracert to the amazon VPC (10.0.0.x) goes out over the internet. this all leads me to the next question, for this router, how do I set up stage #4, the static next hop? What are these seemingly random "inside" addresses and where did amazon generate them from? 169.254.254.x seems odd? With a device like this, is the VPN behind the firewall? I have tweaked any IP addresses below so that they are not "real". I am fully aware, this is probably badly worded. Please if there is any further info/screenshots that will help, let me know. Amazon Web Services Virtual Private Cloud IPSec Tunnel #1 ================================================================================ #1: Internet Key Exchange Configuration Configure the IKE SA as follows - Authentication Method : Pre-Shared Key - Pre-Shared Key : --- - Authentication Algorithm : sha1 - Encryption Algorithm : aes-128-cbc - Lifetime : 28800 seconds - Phase 1 Negotiation Mode : main - Perfect Forward Secrecy : Diffie-Hellman Group 2 #2: IPSec Configuration Configure the IPSec SA as follows: - Protocol : esp - Authentication Algorithm : hmac-sha1-96 - Encryption Algorithm : aes-128-cbc - Lifetime : 3600 seconds - Mode : tunnel - Perfect Forward Secrecy : Diffie-Hellman Group 2 IPSec Dead Peer Detection (DPD) will be enabled on the AWS Endpoint. We recommend configuring DPD on your endpoint as follows: - DPD Interval : 10 - DPD Retries : 3 IPSec ESP (Encapsulating Security Payload) inserts additional headers to transmit packets. These headers require additional space, which reduces the amount of space available to transmit application data. To limit the impact of this behavior, we recommend the following configuration on your Customer Gateway: - TCP MSS Adjustment : 1387 bytes - Clear Don't Fragment Bit : enabled - Fragmentation : Before encryption #3: Tunnel Interface Configuration Your Customer Gateway must be configured with a tunnel interface that is associated with the IPSec tunnel. All traffic transmitted to the tunnel interface is encrypted and transmitted to the Virtual Private Gateway. The Customer Gateway and Virtual Private Gateway each have two addresses that relate to this IPSec tunnel. Each contains an outside address, upon which encrypted traffic is exchanged. Each also contain an inside address associated with the tunnel interface. The Customer Gateway outside IP address was provided when the Customer Gateway was created. Changing the IP address requires the creation of a new Customer Gateway. The Customer Gateway inside IP address should be configured on your tunnel interface. Outside IP Addresses: - Customer Gateway : 217.33.22.33 - Virtual Private Gateway : 87.222.33.42 Inside IP Addresses - Customer Gateway : 169.254.254.2/30 - Virtual Private Gateway : 169.254.254.1/30 Configure your tunnel to fragment at the optimal size: - Tunnel interface MTU : 1436 bytes #4: Static Routing Configuration: To route traffic between your internal network and your VPC, you will need a static route added to your router. Static Route Configuration Options: - Next hop : 169.254.254.1 You should add static routes towards your internal network on the VGW. The VGW will then send traffic towards your internal network over the tunnels. The VGW will then send traffic towards your internal network over the tunnels. EDIT #1 After writing this post, I continued to fiddle and something started to work, just not very reliably. The local IPs to use when setting up the tunnels where indeed my network subnets. Which further confuses me over what these "inside" IP addresses are for. The problem is, results are not consistent what so ever. I can "sometimes" ping, I can "sometimes" RDP using the VPN. Sometimes, Tunnel 1 or Tunnel 2 can be up or down. When I came back into work today, Tunnel 1 was down, so I deleted it and re-created it from scratch. Now I cant ping anything, but Amazon AND the router are telling me tunnel 1/2 are fine. I guess the router/vpn hardware I have just isnt up to the job..... EDIT #2 Now Tunnel 1 is up, Tunnel 2 is down (I didn't change any settings) and I can ping/rdp again. EDIT #3 Screenshot of route table that the router has built up. Current state (tunnel 1 still up and going string, 2 is still down and wont re-connect)

  Today I was looking for a solution to get finally the JScript/Javascript/jQuery Intellisense Featureworking with my ASP.Net Webform Project to work. I found some good articles: - JScript IntelliSense Overview- JScript IntelliSense: A Reference for the “Reference” Tag- Enabling JavaScript intellisense in VS.NET 2010 to work with SharePoint 2010- Rich IntelliSense for jQueryBUT, all of suggested solutions did not work right with my Master Page based Visual Studio 2010 Solution.Only with physical Javascript Files (Telerik includes certain Javascript Files like jQuery as Ressource) or/andconfigure always a new ASP.NET Scriptmanager / RadScriptManager on every page derived from the Master Page, wasn't exactly what I was looking for.
