  • not getting hidden values while postback of a button in.net

    I am using asp.net. I have taken one Hidden value and assigning value to that hidden variable in Java-script. aspx: <input type="hidden" runat="server" id="hdnProductionIds" value="0" name="hdnProductionIds" /> JS: document.getElementById("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_hdnProductionIds").value = "123"; I want to use that hidden value in server side coding(vb.net). But while do-post back, hidden variable value becomes Zero (default value) Can any one please suggest me. Thanks, Jagadi.

    I have been delved in C++ world for a while, but now I'm in .NET world again, VB and C# and I wondered if you have a class that represents a collection of something, and you want the ability to use this in a foreach loop, etc... is it better to implement IEnumerable and IEnumerator yourself or should you inherit from the List<T> where T is the object type in it's singular form? I know in C++ for example, inheriting from a container is considered a bad idea. But what about .NET.

    Hi All, I am going to create a new asp.net web service (.NET framework 2.0), the functionality of the web service is to recieve xml input, perform the relevant operation (add/modify/delete) based on the input and return codes which indicates the status of the operation. I am planning to implement two layer architecture (Business layer and database layer) for this web service, could anyone advise whether this is the right structure or any other structure would perform well than this.     I managed to get ASP.NET to work in Apache, as per http://weblogs.asp.net/israelio/archive/2005/09/11/424852.aspx but I'm unsure how to get it to rewrite pages, with a web.config file. I've tried using Google endlessly, but came to nothing. What's the best solution for me to rename my pages, e.g. mytestpage.aspx to mytestpage.htm Also, anyone know how to get IIS and MySQL working? I've tried but I'm struggling to get it to work. I did this simply because I needed multiple sites on port 80 on localhost, and the website I'm developing is not suited to PHP. IIS is installed, but not being used at the moment. Thanks

    I program php, but I am trying to get into c# asp.net. In php I can make forms, custom html, etc into a seperate php file and just include it on the page that I desire. I understand asp.net has a master page which allows you to set the template for the whole website, but what If I want just a row of buttons to be on SOME pages, and not all? something separate to the master page that can be included on any page i desire? Also when its controllers is that when I use .ascx?

  • Accessing ASP.NET Development Server from another pc on the network

    I would like to test my web app in other browsers. I have installed Virtual PC to do just that. the ASP.NET development server does not allow remote connections so the virtual pc (another computer on the network) cannot access the website. I found this post that was started but there was no solution. I understand that using localhost will not work. I heard about using the machines ip, but how do I get that correct ip? Look at my lynksys router admin? If I were to get as far as getting my IP, im sure that the asp.net dev server does not allow remote connections. How do I enable it to do so?

    Sorry if I am asking a trivial question but I have been searching for a while without any luck. I need to design a system and I am looking for advice on the technology that should be used. The layout is very simple: it is a sales application with a centralized database and multiple clients. Each salesperson has GUI app installed on his/her laptop that should be able to connect to the database to retrieve data and upload data (i.e. register new orders). My question is the following: how should the communication between the client and the server be implemented? I doubt that connecting directly to the RDBMS is a good idea... Should I use web-services? XML-RPC? How to implement authentication and encode the data? Thanks for your advice!

    I have a ListBox bound to a list of Items (for arguement, lets say its got a string and two dates Entered and Done). I would like to make the background color of items in the ListBox have a gray color if the Done DateTime is != DateTime.MinValue. Edit: Should I make a converter? and convert DateTime to a Brush based on the value of the DateTime? Is something like this my best option? or is there a simple Xaml snippet I could use? I know that I can do this easily with objective-c. How can I do that with .net? I've heard that that's what reflextion is for. But how? There is no macro in vb.net right?

    We know that it is not possible to execute code that manipulates the properties of any UI element from any thread other than the thread the element was instantiated on... My question is why? I remember that when we used COM user interface elements, (in COM/VB6 days), that all UI elements were created using COM classes and co-classes that stored their resources using a memory model referred to as Thread-Local-Storage (TLS) , but as I recall, this was required because of something relaetd to the way COM components were constructed, and should not be relevant to .Net UI elements. Wha's the underlying reason why this restriction still exists? Is it because the underlying Operating System still uses COM-based Win32 API classes for all UI elements, even the ones manipulated in a managed .Net application ??

The interview is not particulary hard, just some questions about .Net and C# plus an algorithm to code. I tried C# in a Nutshell but it goes in too much detail for what I want to achieve. I'm more looking for a good yet small book that explains the important concepts of the .Net framework and C#, I already know the details, just want formal explanations so I'm confident when answering.     Hello, I am looking at ASP.NET membership controls (2008) and have been dropping them onto web pages to see how it all works. In some ASP.NET starter kit web site examples that I downloaded, I notice that between the asp:control tags I can see all the tags of the constituent parts like the textboxes, labels and buttons etc. However with the membership control that I am using in 2008 I do not see these other tags. Is this because the starter kit examples are from an older version or is it possible to expose these inner tags? It seems that this would make it possible to customize the controls.   • Applications of concurrent queues and stacks in .NET 4

    .NET 4 includes new concurrent data structures. The Bag and Dictionary collections have obvious applications but I cannot see any use for the Queue and Stack data structures. What are people using these for? Also, I've noticed that the design based upon linked lists incurs a lot of allocation and that destroys scalability. This is surprising given that the sole purpose of these collections is multicore programming. Is this an inherent limitation or are they just badly implemented?

    Does the .NET String.Format method allow placement of a string at a fixed position within a fixed length string. " String Goes Here" " String Goes Here " "String Goes Here " How is this done using .NET? Edit - I have tried Format/PadLeft/PadRight to death. They do not work. I don't know why. I ended up writing my own function to do this. Edit - I made a mistake and used a colon instead of a comma in the format specifier. Should be "{0,20}".
