  I want to crawl a website and store the content on my computer for later analysis. However my OS file system has a limit on the number of sub directories, meaning storing the original folder structure is not going to work. Suggestions? Map the URL to some filename so can store flatly? Or just shove it in a database like sqlite to avoid file system limitations?

• mySql Delete only removes the data not the entire entry

  Hi all I have this line in my php code $insert = "DELETE FROM allocation_table WHERE job = '$jobnumber' " ; Mysql_query ($insert) ; The problem is it will remove all the values from the the one line in my table but not the entry itself. as you can see in the picture if I delete where job = 315 , it does not delete the line but does delete all the entries Yet in this code that preceeds it (a different table) . it works fine and the whole line is removed $insert = "DELETE FROM event WHERE jobnumber = '$jobnumber' " ; mysql_query ($insert) ;enter code here can anyone offer some advice please ??

  Hello, I have a question related to correct handling of returns of the DAO library I'm writing for one project. This library probably is going to be used by another people and I want to do it correctly. So I would like to know, how I should deal with return statements of the functions of my DAO. Example 1 I have function to getCustomer which should return String. In case query doesn't return any result should I return null, empty string or throw some kind of Exception? Example 2 I have function getCutomerList which return ArrayList. In case query doesn't return any result should I return null, empty ArrayList or throw some Exception? Example 3 Some sql exception was detected, what should I do: throw exception or do try..catch of the block where it can occur? What is the "good" practice or "best" practice to apply in my case? The problem is that sometimes the room may not "check in" at the 15 minute interval time, so the assumption has to be made that the previous last known user count is still valid. For example the check-in's for 2012-08-03 14:15:00 room 4 never checked in, so it must be assumed that room 4 had 3 users at 2012-08-03 14:15:00 because that is what it had at 2012-08-03 14:00:00 This follows on through so that the average user count I am looking for is as follows: Room 1: (2 + 3 + 6 + 3) / 4 = 3.5 Room 2: (3 + 4 + 4 + 7) / 4 = 4.5 Room 3: (1 + 1 + 1 + 8) / 4 = 2.75 Room 4: (3 + 3 + 3 + 4) / 4 = 3.25 where # is the assumed number based on the previous known check-in.   Hi i have a gridview with information about documents: name, document type (policy, guidelines, forms, etc), category, etc. I want to sort the gridview alphabetically (name) and by document type, but always having the 'policy' above the other document types when document name is the same. How do I do that? eg If I do sort by DocumentName, DocumentType ('policy' maybe not be the first one in the list) but if I do sort by DocumentType , DocumentName (I would get for example all guidelines first in alphabetical order, then procedures, then policies, etc)

  Hi, i'm developing an app which download map tiles around different places in a city. To do this, i have one thread for each place in which i select the tiles and create a thread to download each. Well, the question is how to avoid creating a thread for a tile that already exists in the thread pool. Should not just check if the file exists, since it is possible that the thread for that tile already exists (other place already need that tile) but the file has not been created- Any idea? Thanks

• Persisting sensitve data in asp.net, odd implementation

  For reasons not in scope of this question I have implemented a .net project in an iframe which runs from a classic asp page. The classic asp site persisted a few sensitive values by hitting the db on each page. I have passed there variables as xml to the aspx page, now I need to make these values available on any page of this .net site. I've looked into the cache object but we are on a web farm so I am not sure it would work. Is there a way I can can instantiate an object in a base page class and have other pages inherit from the base page to access these values? What is the best way to persist these values? A few more points to consider the site runs in https mode and I cannot use session variables, and I would like to avoid cookies if possible..

  Introduction: I want to loop through XML files with flexible categories structure. Problem: I don't know to loop through a theoretical infinte subcategories without having to make x amount of "for each" statements (See coding example in the bottom). How do I dynamically traverse the categories structure? • client-side data storage and retrieval with html and javascript

  I'm building what I am hoping to be a fairly simple, quick and dirty demo app. So far, I've managed to build a bunch of components using only html and javascript. I know that eventually I'll hook-up a db, but at this point I'm just trying to show off some functionality. In the page, a user can select a bunch of other users (like friends). Then they go to a separate html page and there is some sorting info based on the selected users. So my first attempt was to put the selected users object into a cookie, and retrieve the cookie on the second page. Unfortunately, if the user changed their selection, the cookie wasn't getting updated, and my searches on StackOverflow seemed to say that deleting and updating cookies is unreliable. I tried function updateCookie(updatedUserList){ jQuery.cookie('userList',null); jQuery.cookie('userList',updatedUserList); } but though it set the cookie to null, it wouldn't update it on the second value. So I decided to put the selected users object into a form. Unfortunately, it looks like I can't retrieve the contents from the form on the client-side, only on the server-side. Is there another way to do this? I've worked in PHP and Rails, but I'm trying to do this quickly and simply before building it out into something larger and am trying to avoid any server-side processing for now, which I have managed to do up to this point.

I tried the following: (From o In MYDATA Select o.SleepTo).Average() Since "SleepTo" is a datetime field I get an error on Average(). If I was trying to get the average of say an integer, the above linq query works. What do I need to do to get it to work for datetimes?

How can i check if the entire column is empty? I tried the following with no luck. =iif(IsNothing(Fields!.Reading.Value),"",FormatNumber(MAX(Fields!Reading.Value, "CellReading_Reading"),3)) But still i'm getting #Error in the report. • c++ normalizing data sizes across systems

  I have a struct with three variables: two unsigned ints and an unsigned char. From my understanding, a c++ char is always 1 byte regardless of what operating system it is on. The same can't be said for other datatypes. I am looking for a way to normalize POD's so that when saved into a binary file, the resulting file is readable on any operating system that the code is compiled for. I changed my struct to use a 1-byte alignment by adding #pragma as follows: #pragma pack(push, 1) struct test { int a; } #pragma pack(pop) but that doesn't necessarily mean that int a is exactly 4 bytes on every os, I don't think? Is there a way to ensure that a file saved from my code will always be readable?

  Hi all , Im trying to read in image file from a server , with the code below . It keeps going into the exception. I know the correct number of bytes are being sent as I print them out when received. So the client side is messed up . I have to send the file from the server so I cant use the suggestion suggested by Brian .

However we need to support more than our entity framework is capable of and so I'd like to get some opinions about using MVC with a more robust framework. We have narrowed down or choices to either NHibernate (with the Fluent APIs) or LINQ to SQL. Which framework lends itself best to MVC style development (I know SO uses LINQ to SQL)? If we want to support SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL - does that exclude LINQ to SQL?

  Hi all, I have been implementing a new project which I have decided to use the repository pattern and Entity Framework. I have sucessfuly implemented basic CRUD methods and I have no moved onto my DeepLoads.   Hey all, i am checking for an internet connection by checking for a file on my server. The file only has the word LIVE displayed on the page. No HTML or anything else is there, just the word LIVE. When i run this code, i do get the NSLog as saying "LIVE" but once i go to check it with the IF statement, it fails and i just do not know why??? • How do I format a Uri when binding an Image in Silverlight?

  I haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have a database that has image paths in it ("images/myimage.jpg"). These images exist on my asp.net site which is also where I host the SL. I want to bind these images to my ListBox control so that the image displays. I have read that since I have a string value, "images/myimage.jpg", that I need to convert it to a BitMap image. I have done this: the xaml: <Image Source="{Binding ImageFile, Converter={StaticResource ImageConverter}}"/> the ImageConverter class: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { try { Uri source= new Uri(value.ToString()); return new BitmapImage(source); } catch(Exception ex) { return new BitmapImage(); } } I get an error when creating the Uri, "The Format of the URI could not be determined". What am I doing wrong? If I create a Uri that looks like this: http://localhost:49723/images/myimage.jpg, it works just fine. Why doesn't just "images/myimage.jpg" work?

• Handling large (object) datasets with PHP

  I am currently working on a project that extensively relies on the EAV model. Both entities as their attributes are individually represented by a model, sometimes extending other models (or at least, base models). This has worked quite well so far since most areas of the application only rely on filtered sets of entities, and not the entire dataset. Now, however, I need to parse the entire dataset (IE: all entities and all their attributes) in order to provide a sorting/filtering algorithm based on the attributes. The application currently consists of aproximately 2200 entities, each with aproximately 100 attributes. Every entity is represented by a single model (for example Client_Model_Entity) and has a protected property called $_attributes, which is an array of Attribute objects. Each entity object is about 500KB, which results in an incredible load on the server. With 2000 entities, this means a single task would take 1GB of RAM (and a lot of CPU time) in order to work, which is unacceptable. Are there any patterns or common approaches to iterating over such large datasets? Paging is not really an option, since everything has to be taken into account in order to provide the sorting algorithm.

• Fastest way to store/retrieve a dictionary - SQL, text file...?

  Hi all, This is a really really super dumb question, so I apologise, but I'd be grateful for some advice. I've got a text file of words and word frequencies. It's very large - theoretically we're talking millions of rows. I just want to retrieve values from the file, and do it as quickly and efficiently as possible (for a web app, in Django). My question is: what is the best way to store and retrieve the values? Should import them into SQL? Or keep the file and use grep? Or put them into a JSON dictionary...? Or some other way? Sorry for the dumb question, would be very grateful for advice!
