  Let me start with the things that I did and how am I using some things to get results I have set up modular structure as: application/ /configs /layouts /models /modules /users /profile /frontend /backend /controllers /views .... I write a plugin that does addes changes with FrontController-setModuleControllerDirectoryName() FrontController-addModuleDirectory() and It is all good I have a changed all the directories according weather admin page is requested in the url or not (it is some thing like /admin/some/some) Let's say I have a single layout for anything that is related to Profile viewing , in this case the "Profile" module. The Profile layout is divided into three parts In the layout I was pulling out the Profile/PhotoController 's index action with a action() $this->action('index', 'photo', 'profile'); Then I have faced few issues 1. Can get passed Params inside the Photo Controller when calling ( profile/profile/index); 2. found out that helper Action() is evil cause it starts another dispatching loop =) --- and now I am thinking that my approach on plugging in controllers modules into layout also evil =). anyhow how Should I deal with plugging in some controllers (another module controllers) into the layout ?

• Strange FileNotFoundException occuring on production server in console application

  Hi I have an application that works fine in my dev enviroment, but throws weird errors in the production enviroment, I checked the version of .net on my dev machine aswell as the production server , they both run 3.5.30729.01. The exception I get is a System.IO.FileNotFoundException.   I am a little unsure as to how to manage sessions within my nunit test fixtures. In the following test fixture, I am testing a repository. My repository constructor takes in an ISession (since I will be using session per request in my web application). In my test fixture setup I configure NHibernate and build the session factory. In my test setup I create a clean SQLite database for each test executed. • Attempting to Convert Byte[] into Image... but is there platform issues involved

  Greetings, Current, I'm attempting to develop an application that takes a Byte Array that is streamed to us from a Linux C language program across a TCPClient (stream) and reassemble it back into an image/jpg. The "sending" application was developed by a off-site developer who claims that the image reassembles back into an image without any problems or errors in his test environment (all Linux)... However, we are not so fortunate. I (believe) we successfully get all of the data sent, storing it as a string (lets us append the stream until it is complete) and then we convert it back into a Byte[]. This appears to be working fine... But, when we take the byte[] we get from the streaming (and our string assembly) and try to convert it into an image using the System.Drawing.Image.FromStream() we get errors.... Anyone have any idea what we're doing wrong? Or, does anyone know if this is a cross-platform issue? We're developing our app for Windows XP and C# .net, but the off-site developer did his work in c and Linux... perhaps there's some difference as to how each Operating System Coverts Images into Byte Arrays? Anyway, here's the code for converting our received ByteArray (from the TCPClient Stream) into an image. This code works when we send an image from a test machine we built that RUNS on XP, but not from the Linux box...   The only way I found so far is System.Drawing.Bitmap.GetPixel(), but Microsoft has warnings for System.Drawing that are making me wonder if this is the "old way" to do it. Are there any alternatives? Here's what Microsoft says about the System.Drawing namespace. I also noticed that the System.Drawing assembly was not automatically added to the references when I created a new WPF project. System.Drawing Namespace The System.Drawing namespace provides access to GDI+ basic graphics functionality. More advanced functionality is provided in the System.Drawing.Drawing2D, System.Drawing.Imaging, and System.Drawing.Text namespaces. The Graphics class provides methods for drawing to the display device. Classes such as Rectangle and Point encapsulate GDI+ primitives. The Pen class is used to draw lines and curves, while classes derived from the abstract class Brush are used to fill the interiors of shapes. Caution Classes within the System.Drawing namespace are not supported for use within a Windows or ASP.NET service. • Thread-safe data structure design

  Hello, I have to design a data structure that is to be used in a multi-threaded environment. The basic API is simple: insert element, remove element, retrieve element, check that element exists. The structure's implementation uses implicit locking to guarantee the atomicity of a single API call. After i implemented this it became apparent, that what i really need is atomicity across several API calls. For example if a caller needs to check the existence of an element before trying to insert it he can't do that atomically even if each single API call is atomic: if(!data_structure.exists(element)) { data_structure.insert(element); } The example is somewhat awkward, but the basic point is that we can't trust the result of "exists" call anymore after we return from atomic context (the generated assembly clearly shows a minor chance of context switch between the two calls). What i currently have in mind to solve this is exposing the lock through the data structure's public API. This way clients will have to explicitly lock things, but at least they won't have to create their own locks. Is there a better commonly-known solution to these kinds of problems? And as long as we're at it, can you advise some good literature on thread-safe design? EDIT: I have a better example. Suppose that element retrieval returns either a reference or a pointer to the stored element and not it's copy. How can a caller be protected to safely use this pointer\reference after the call returns? If you think that not returning copies is a problem, then think about deep copies, i.e. objects that should also copy another objects they point to internally. Thank you.

• Logback: What would cause DEBUG - WARN to append to file but NOT ERROR?

  I am running a Java program from Eclipe, and I am using the logback console plugin. I can see the ERROR level statements being appended to console (as well as all of the others). But for some reason my file, which is correctly recieving new DEBUG-WARN statements, is NOT recieving the ERROR level ones.   I'm using LINQ to SQL to connect my database to my home page. I created my datacontext (named businessModel.dbml) In it I have two tables named Category and Business. • How to suppress jqgrid from initially loading data?

  I have a page that has a couple of jqGrids on it, along with a few other fields. I want to make one AJAX call myself that pulls back a JSON object that has the data that should be used to fill the entire page. So, I would like to make the call myself, populate the "other fields" and then pull a couple of collections off of the main JSON object that was returned and populate each of the jqGrids with those collections "manually". I have this much working, but I can't get jqGrid to stop attempting to make an AJAX request itself. Shouldn't there be a way to tell jqGrid to NOT attempt an AJAX call when it is initialized? I found a similar question asked here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1850159/how-to-suppress-jqgrid-from-initially-loading-data But I don't have the option that solved it for the poster. It seems pretty logical to me that some people may want to use this plugin without having the table attempt to get its own data upon initialization. Am I missing an option somewhere in the documentation (wiki - options)? Thanks.

It seems to me that the "general" way is "old" and not always well red by some IDE like Eclipse: Is there no other way to include jsp expression with "<% ... %". There is no need for a framework to resolve this, since we only have like 60 pages. I run through examples and see that we can seperate the code with blockquotes "< script < /script ". I'm really wondering which is the better method for understanding and easier reading of the code. Any formatting, syntax coloring, plugin or new code style suggestions would help. • What's the most efficient way to setup a multi-lingual website

  Hi, I'm developing a website that will be available in different languages. It is a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) setup, and it makes use of Smarty, mostly for the template engine. The way we currently translate is by a self-written smarty plugin, which will recognize certain tags in the HTML files, and will find the corresponding tag in an earlier defined language file. The HTML could look as follows: <p>Hi, welcome to $#gamedesc;!</p> And the language file could look like this: gamedesc:Poing 2009$; welcome:this is another tag$; Which would then output <p>Hi, welcome to Poing 2009!</p> This system is very basic, but it is pretty hard to control, if I f.e. would like to keep track of what has been translated so far, or give certain users the rights to translate only certain tags. I've been looking at some alternative ways to approach this, by either replacing the text-file with XML files which could store some extra meta-data, or by perhaps storing all the texts in the database, and retrieving it there. My question is, what would be the best way to make this system both maintainable and perform well with high user-traffic? Are there perhaps any (lightweight) plugins I could take a look at?

• How can I alter an external variable from inside my AJAX?

  I keep on having these same two problems. I have been trying to use Remy Sharp's wonderful tagSuggest plugin, and it works great. Until I try to use an AJAX call to get tags from my database. My setGlobalTags() works great, with my defined myTagList at the top of the function. What I want to do is set myTagList equal to the result from my AJAX. My problem is that I can neither call setGlobalTags() from inside my success or error functions, nor actually alter the original myTagList. Also, I keep on having this other issue as well. I keep this code in my Master page, and my AJAX returns 'success' on almost every page. I only (and always) get the error alert when I navigate to a page that actually contains something of id="ParentTags". I don't see why this is happening, because my $('#ParentTags').tagSuggest(); is definitely after my AJAX call. I realize that this is probably just some dumb conventions error, but I am new to this and I'm here to learn from you guys. • Why open source it? And how to get real involvement?

  For me the main goal of open sourcing something is collaboration. If the most that other developers are going to do is take it and use it and report bugs to me, then I might as well close source it. Closed source provides me with all that. I was recently looking at a small javascript library (or more like a plugin, 1000 lines of code) that's actually quite popular. There were some bugs in it because new browsers and browser versions get released everyday and these bugs just pop up as a result. What bothered me is that these bugs would actually be quite easy to fix by even intermediate javascript developers, but for an entire month no one stepped up to fix the bug and submit the fixed version. The original author was apparently busy for that month, but that's the point of open sourcing your code: so that others can use it and help themselves AND the project if they can. So this makes me doubt the promise of open source. If people aren't working on it too, I might as well close source my new projects. And how do you get people involved so that open sourcing is worth it?

• Why compiling in Flash IDE I cannot access stage in a Sprite constructor before addChild while if I

  I've created this simple class (omissing package directive and imports) public class Viewer extends Sprite { public function Viewer():void { trace(stage); } } then in Flash IDE I import in first frame this AS: import Viewer var viewer = new Viewer(); stage.addChild(viewer); trace(viewer.stage); and this works as I expected: the first trace called in constructor say stage is "null" because I haven't yet add viewer to a DisplayObjectContainer. The second one output the stage object. So I created a project using AXDT eclipse plugin, I've recreated and compiled only the first class (trashed the AS init script used in Flash IDE because is not needed) and on the first trace ... wow ... the stage is filled with the stage Object. I seems to me that the compiler used by AXDT (Flex4 SDK open source) add the class... before construct it (!?).. to a DisplayObjectContainer already attached to a Stage. I want to understand how can reproduce this behaviour using compiler in Flash IDE so I can directrly access Stage in construction.

• Jquery and PHP rating function problem

  I know that I was already posted similar question but I just can't find the answer and figure it out how to solve this problem. I'm trying to customize Jquery Star Rating plugin (link text) but I do not know what to do to show the message based on response of PHP script. Jquery script successfully send rating data to PHP scripts that query the database and based on that echo message of proper or improper rating. What should I add to an existing JS code so I can get echo from PHP and base on that write a message on some DIV beside rating star? Jquery: $('#gal').rating('gl.php?gal_no=<?=$gal_no;?>&id=<?=$id;?>', {maxvalue:10,increment:.5, curvalue: <?=$cur;?>}); Simplified PHP code: $br=mysql_query("SELECT count(gal) as total FROM ...") if ... { echo '0'; } else echo '1'; } Jquery code successfully transmitted data to PHP script and when the PHP done with checking data echo the result ('1' or '0'). How can I get this PHP result back to Jquery and based on them write a message? • Is there any way to filter certain things in pages served by IIS?

  Hello, This is my first time posting here so please keep that in mind... I'll try to be short and get right to defining the problem. We have an ASP.NET 2 application (eCommerce package) running on IIS (Windows Server 2003). The main site's page(s) are using plain HTTP (no SSL), but the whole checkout process and the shopping cart page is using SSL (HTTPS). Now, the problem is that the site's header is located in a template file, and inside it it has a plain HTML 'img' tag calling an image with the "http://" portion hard-coded into it... This header appears on absolutely every page (including the https pages), and due to its insecure image tag, a warning box pops up in IE on every stage of the checkout process... Now, the problem: The live application cannot be touched in any way (no changes can be made to the template (so simply changing "http://" to "//" is not an option), IIS cannot be restarted, and the website/app pool cannot be restarted). Is there any way in the world (maybe plugin for IIS or a setting somewhere) that I can filter the pages right before they are served to replace the '<img src="http://example.com/image.jpg">' with '<img src="//example.com/image.jpg">' in the final HTML? Possibly via a regular expression or something? Thanks to everybody in advance.

• asp.net mvc ajax helper/post additional data w/o jquery.

  I would like to use the ajax helper to create ajax requests that send additional, dynamic data with the post (for example, get the last element with class = blogCommentDateTime and send the value of that last one to the controller which will return only blog comments after it). I have successfully done so with the help of jQuery Form plugin like so: $(document).ready(function () { $("#addCommentForm").submit(function () { var lastCommentDate = $(".CommentDateHidden:last").val(); var lastCommentData = { lastCommentDateTicks: lastCommentDate }; var formSubmitParams = { data: lastCommentData, success: AddCommentResponseHandler } $("#addCommentForm").ajaxSubmit(formSubmitParams); return false; }); This form was created with html.beginform() method. I am wondering if there is an easy way to do this using the ajax.beginform() helper? When I try to use the same code but replace html.beginform() with ajax.beginform(), when i try to submit the form, I am issuing 2 posts (which is understandable, one being taken care of by the helper, the other one by me with the JS above. I can't create 2 requests, so this option is out) I tried getting rid of the return false and changing ajaxSubmit() to ajaxForm() so that it would only "prepare" the form, and this leads in only one post, but it does not include the extra parameter that I defined, so this is worthless as well. I then tried keeping the ajaxForm() but calling that whenever the submit button on the form gets clicked rather than when the form gets submitted (I guess this is almost the same thing) and that results in 2 posts also. The biggest reason I am asking this question is that I have run in to some issues with the javascript above and using mvc validation provided by the mvc framework (which i will set up another question for) and would like to know this so I can dive further in to my validation issue.

  Hi There! I've been working on this one quite a bit and haven't gotten any closer to a solution. I juut dug up my old copy of the WindowsHookLib again - It's available with source at http://www.codeproject.com/KB/DLL/WindowsHookLib.aspx. This library allows Global Windows Mouse/Keyboard/Clipboard Hooks, which is very useful. I'm trying to use the Mouse Hook in here to Capture Mouse-Motion (I could use a Timer that always polls Cursor.Position, but I plan on using more features of WindowsHookLib later). Code as follows: MouseHook mh = new MouseHook(); mh.InstallHook(); mh.MouseMove += new EventHandler<WindowsHookLib.MouseEventArgs>(mh_MouseMove); But on the call to InstallHook(), I get an Exception: "The specified Module could not be found". Strange. Searching, I found that someone thought this occurs because a DLL is not in a place included in the Windows PATH variable, and because placing it in system32 didn't help I went the whole hog and translated the thing to C# for inclusion directly in my project (I was curious how it works). However the error was obstinately persistent, so I dug a bit on this, and found the Code in the Library that is responsible: In InstallHook(), we have IntPtr hinstDLL = Marshal.GetHINSTANCE(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetModules()[0]); this._hMouseHook = UnsafeNativeMethods.SetWindowsHookEx(14, this._mouseProc, hinstDLL, 0); if (this._hMouseHook == IntPtr.Zero) { throw new MouseHookException(new Win32Exception(Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()).Message); } And this (after modification and recompile) tells me that what I'm really getting is a Windows error "ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND"! Now, Here I'm stumped. Didn't I just compile the Hook Library directly into my project? (UnsafeMethods.SetWindowsHookEx is just a DllImported Method from user32) Any Answers, or Prods in the right direction, or any hints, pointers or similar are very much appreciated!

• How can I prevent/make it hard to download my flash video?

  I want to at least prevent normal users to download my flash video. What's the best way to do it? Create a httphandler, add a token (e.g. timeid), set the cache control to no-cache so that only the users with correct token can view the correct video. Is that feasible? It is the requirement from client that the video should not be downloaded by users and should be watched only in the particular website. I want to know if this works: http://www.somesite.com/video.swf?time=1248319067 Server will generate a token(time in the above example) so that user can only have one request to this link. If the user wants to watch the video again, he needs to go to our website to get the token again. Is this okay to prevent novices from downloading? I can't download this flash video by the downloadHelper firefox plugin: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8164177.stm Updated (13:49 pm 2009/07/23): The above file can be downloaded using some video download software. The video files of following Chinese sites are well protected (I can't download it using many video download software): http://programme.tvb.com/drama/abrideforaride/video/ Do you know how it is done?
