• SDLC/Deployment/Documentation ERP/framework that minimizes developer misery

  I was wondering if there are favorite SDLC/Deployment/Documentation/Versioning ERP/frameworks that work with popular SDLC methodologies, such as Agile, that minimize developer exposure to what most programmer hate to do most -- PAPERWORK ? Often, release management is extremely inefficient and there is a lot of data duplication across documents that are required to accompany changes -- e.g. when submitting a deployment request, I must list all files and their revisions from source control -- but why is that necessary if every file revision I check in is pinned to a work order and a deployment request is just a list of work orders -- such info should be able to be pulled from the system automatically without me needing to extract it and report it. And then there is a backout plan -- well just do everything in reverse from what you did to deploy -- why do you need specific instructions? Similar applies for documentation... So I am curious if there is an overall, all-encompassing ERP that includes source control and minimizes paperwork by sharing centralized data across different documents (such as documentation being pulled from javadoc without needing to write it separately) associated with SDLC yet does not compromise structure and control over the code base and release management.

• Hudson.. another Continuous Integration tool

  In my previous posts I discussed about Cruisecontrol.net and its legacy support to .Net development. Hudson  is yet another continuous integration tool. Hudson is also free like CCNet and built in java. - CCNet has its legacy support to .Net applications where as Hudson can be easily configured on both the environments (.Net and Java). - One of the major differences in CCNet and Hudson is the richer GUI of Hudson provide user interactive screens for project configuration where as in CCNet we have to play with a few xml configuration files. Both the tools are capable of providing basic features of continuous integration e.g.:- - Source Control configuration - Code Compilation/Build - Ad hoc plugin tools to be configured along with compilation Support for adhoc tools seems to be bigger with CCNet e.g. There are almost every source control plugin available with CCNet where as Hudson has support for limited source control servers. Basically there is an interseting point to see is that there are 2 major partsof whole CI system one performed by build tool and rest. Build tool takes care of all adhoc plugin tools  so no matter if CI tool does not have plugin for that tool if thet tools provides command line support that can be configured in build tool and that build tool is then configured with CI tool inturn. For example if I have a build script configured in MSBuild and CCNet can be easily switched to Hudson. Here we need not to change anything in build script we just need to configure MSBuild on Hudson and pass the path of script file and thats it... all is same. Thoughts? -- EDIT -- After playing with it a bit, I would think it has something to do with referencing the projects. I'm already referencing the TiledLib within my main windows project (TiledTest). However, this doesn't seem to make a difference. I can place the dll generated from the TiledLib project into the debug folder of TiledTest, and this causes it to generate a different error: Error loading "desert".   I configured iis7 ftp to allow ssl connections. I set the ssl firewall to use ports 50000-50050. If I set up a custom service on my fortigate firewall for ftps with source ports 990-50050 and destination ports 990-50050, set it to a firewall policy and connect from a client it connects and works successfully. If I create a service FTPS Control with source port 990 and destination port 990 and another service,FTP Data with source ports 50000-50050 and destination ports 50000-50050 add them to a group FTPSSL, replace the ftps policy with FTPSSL and try connecting it tries to connect to port 990 and eventually times out. Is there a way to configure the service to only use the ports I need and not every port from 990 up?

  Nem akarok provokátornak tunni, de lenne egy-két észrevételem az amúgy jól sikerült Open Source 2011 konferencia kapcsán. Persze a mi rendezvényeinkre is lehet panasz, amit szívesen is veszünk, hogy tanuljunk belole. Szóval nem sikerült az elektronikus regisztráció, pedig még fel is hívtak elotte, meg minden. Ennek ellenére a helyszíni listában mégsem voltam benne. Persze gyorsan megoldották, de azért mégis egy informatikai konferenciáról van szó. Ha már open source, akkor tényleg olyan nehéz lett volna Linuxos gépeket, odahozni OpenOffice (vagy LibreOffice, vagy akármi) telepítéssel. Volt is minden eloadásváltásnál megjegyzés. Azt már nem is említem, hogy persze a néhány kivételtol eltekintve a legtöbben ppt hoztak. Persze egy részük készülhetett OpenOffice-ban is. Mondjuk erre azért fogadnék. Persze volt aki nem ppt-ben hozta és még fel is hívta rá a figyelmet, hogy bezzeg o nem a Microsoft eszközeivel ad elo. Helyette azért egy másik fizetossel sikerült elmondani, hogy milyen jó, hogy nem kerül semmibe az open source. Ami amúgy nagyon jó prezentációs alkalmazás. (Jutalom nélkül, mi lehetett az? Válaszokat ide várom a blogra.) A tartalom, mint mondtam érdekes volt. Persze lenne min vitatkozni, de ezt esetleg majd a konkrét téma kapcsán. Idén nem vettünk részt eloadóként, de szerintem jövore ez már változhat. Az esti program is nagyon jó volt, különösen Soma buvész lenyugözo trükkjei.

  I have 5 HDD and my computer is not handling the situation very well. hehe There are some towers that I can buy to put 4 of my drives out, but I'm thinking that I could use the power source of a failed computer I have and use it to power the 4 (or at least 3) of the drives. The data cables (SATA) will remain connected to the working computer (so no USB solution). The problem is that the power source will not work unless it is connected to the failing computer motherboard. Is there any way I could use the power source without plunging it to the old motherboard? Any "HOW-TO" links may be useful as well.

So you end up writing code like this: this.StatusProgressBar.IsIndeterminate = false; this.StatusProgressBar.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; this.StatusProgressBar.Minimum = 0; this.StatusProgressBar.Maximum = 100; this.StatusProgressBar.Value = percentage; Here’s a work around to this: With.A<ProgressBar>(this.StatusProgressBar, (p) => { p.IsIndeterminate = false; p.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; p.Minimum = 0; p.Maximum = 100; p.Value = percentage; }); Saves you repeatedly typing the same class instance or control name over and over again. It also makes code more readable since it clearly says that you are working with a progress bar control within the block. It you are setting properties of several controls one after another, it’s easier to read such code this way since you will have dedicated block for each control. It’s a very simple one line function that does it: public static class With { public static void A<T>(T item, Action<T> work) { work(item); } } You could argue that you can just do this: var p = this.StatusProgressBar; p.IsIndeterminate = false; p.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; p.Minimum = 0; p.Maximum = 100; p.Value = percentage; But it’s not elegant. You are introducing a variable “p” in the local scope of the whole function. This goes against naming conventions. Morever, you can’t limit the scope of “p” within a certain place in the function.

• How does the PPA fit into the scenario of publishing an application to the Ubuntu Software Center?

  I've been going through docs for the past couple of hours but I haven't understood what the PPA is? I have a cross-platform Java application that I'd like to publish to the Ubuntu Software Center. My application is open-source and I'm using Github. Apparently, publishing applications to the store isn't as simple as uploading a deb package - am I right? I need to create an account on Launchpad and put all my code there. I don't intend to move from Git to Bzr merely for the sake of publishing to the app store but luckily, one is able to set up source-code mirroring from Github to Launchpad. Since my application is still very premature, it'll have updates fairly often. When I build my application on my machine, do I simply go my Ubuntu App Developer page and upload the new DEB package or do they build my application from source? What exactly is the PPA for? I don't think I'll need too many of the Launchpad features so I'd like to stick to Github if possible. (Publishing for Ubuntu really isn't trivial. I can see why there are so many developers out there who haven't published their applications to the Ubuntu Software Center. Publishing an Android applications has been the easiest so far.)

• Google Analytics cookie across SagePay checkout

  We use SagePay's Server integration for our online payments. We use Google Analytics to track activity on our website and Google Ecommerce tracking to log transactions. In Google Analytics, under the Ecommerce view, it shows direct/none for source/medium, as the 1st party cookie is lost when visiting the external SagePay checkout pages before the customer is redirected to my confirmation page which tracks the transaction. In all the answers I have viewed when searching for a solution, the suggestion is to alter the tracking code to read _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'none']); _gaq.push(['_setAllowLinker', true]); but this needs to be implemented on all pages, including 3rd party domains (SagePay). As SagePay don't allow javascript in their template customisation, what can I do? Is there another way? • Running django custom management commands with supervisord

  I'd like to use supervisord to run some commands for my Django project but I keep getting the following error: supervisor.log: 2012-05-18 17:52:15,784 INFO spawnerr: can't find command 'source' If I remove the "source" command, the log shows the same error: can't find command 'python'. supervisord.conf excerpt: [program:django] directory=/home/mf/projects/djangopj/ command=beanstalkd -l 127.0.0.1 -p 11300 command=source /home/mf/virtualenvs/env/bin/activate command=python manage.py command1 command=python manage.py command2 user=mf autostart=true autorestart=true I tried removing the directory and adding the absolute path to the commands but I kept getting the same error. I run supervisord with the following command: supervisord -c supervisord.conf -l supervisor.log

• svnserve accepts only local connection

  I've installed svnserve in linux box konrad. On konrad I can checkout from svn: steve@konrad:~$ svn co svn://konrad A konrad/build.xml On my local Windows pc i can ping konrad, but checkout doesn work: C:\Projects>svn co svn://konrad svn: E730061: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn://konrad' svn: E730061: Can't connect to host 'konrad': ??????????? ?? ???????????, ?.?. ???????? ????????? ?????? ?????? ?? ???????????. My linux firewall is disabled: konrad# iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination and windows firewall is also off (I can't send screen shot here, so believe me). • Calling Web Services using ADF 11g

  One of the benefits of ADF is that fact that it can use multiple data sources. With SOA playing a big part in today’s IT landscape, applications need to be able to utilise this SOA framework to leverage functionality from multiple systems to provide a composite application. ADF provides functionality to expose web services via the ADF Business Component so if you know how to use Business Components for a database. Configuring ADF for web services is much the same. In this example I use an OSB web service that gets a customer. Create a new Fusion Web Application (ADF) Application and click OK    Provide an Application Name, GetCustomerADF and click Next    From the Project Technologies move Web Services into the Selected box. Accept the defaults and click Finish. Right-click the Model project and select New In the Gallery select Web Services –> Web Service Data Control then click OK. Provide a name GetCustomerDC and give the URL endpoint for the Web Service, then click Next Select the web service operation you want to use for the ADF application. In my example my web service only has one operation. Click Finish Save your work, File –> Save The data control has now been created, the next steps create the UI components. In your application created in step 1 find the ViewController project, right-click and choose New In the Gallery select JSF –> JSF Page Provide a name for the jsp page, GetCustomer, Also ensure that the ‘Create as XML Document (*.jsp) check box is checked. I have selected the page template, Oracle Three Column Layout but you can create a layout of your choice. I only want 2 columns so I delete the last column but right-clicking the right had panel and selecting Delete Drag the fields you require from the web service data control to the left pannel. In my example I only require the Customer ID. When you drag to the panel select Texts –>ADF Input Text w/Label In this example I want to search on a customer based on the ID. So Once I select the ID I want to execute the request. To do this I need a button. Drag the operation object under the fields created in step 15. Select Methods –> ADF Button. You now need to provide the mappings, Choose the ‘Show EI Expression Builder’ Navigate to the bindings, ADFBindings –> bindings –> parametersIterator –> currentRow Click OK Drag and drop the return information I just want the results shown in a form. I want to show all fields Now it is time to test, Right-click the jspx page created in steps 11 – 21 and select Run A browser should start, enter valid values and test

  I tried to build the linux kernel 3.0.4 on ubuntu 11.10 in virtualbox. Here are my steps: Download the source code tar xjvf linux-source-3.0.0.tar.bz2 cd linux-source-3.0.0 make menuconfig, changed nothing but used the default config and save to .config make Actually I think it should be 3.0.4 because from the Makefile I could see VERSION = 3 PATCHLEVEL = 0 SUBLEVEL = 4 EXTRAVERSION = Then at stage 2 which is to make modules, an error happened: ERROR: "__modver_version_show" [drivers/staging/rts5139/rts5139.ko] undefined! make[1]: *** [__modpost] Error 1 make: *** [modules] Error 2 Perhaps because 3.0.4 is a new release so that I can not find any same problem asked nor any solution to it.

• Reverse Engineer a .pyo python file

  I have 2 .pyo python files that I can convert to .py source files, but they don't compile perfectly as hinted by decompyle's verify. Therefore looking at the source code, I can tell that config.pyo simply had variables in in an array: ADMIN_USERIDS = [116901, 141, 349244, 39, 1159488] I would like to take the original .pyo and disassembly or whatever I need to do inorder to change one of these IDs. Or.... in model.pyo the source indicates a if (productsDeveloperId != self.getUserId()): All I would want to do is hex edit the != to be a == .....Simple with a windows exe program but I can't find a good python disassembler anywhere. Any suggestions are welcomed...I am new to reading bytecode and new to python as well.

• Close all Mac Terminal windows, but the one running a script

  I am trying to create a shell script that runs a python simulation programing in 4 terminal windows. I have the script that launches the program four times in four separate terminal windows(total of 5 windows, 4 for the python programs, and one to control the other terminal windows). I want to now create a script that I can run in the control terminal window that closes and kills the programs of the other four terminal windows, but still have the control one open. What I have so far is something like this #!/bin/sh osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" do script "killall python" end tell' osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" to quit' osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" to open' The problem is that the last line doesn't work because it closes all the windows including the one the script is executing in. I am not really familiar with shell or apple script so any help would be welcomed. I posted on Stack, but I think this might be a better place for an automation type question. Thanks
