  • How to save preferences to somewhere other than SharedPreferences

    My application is used on multiple platforms so it saves it preferences to a file (rather than to the standard Android SharedPreferences). Is there any easy of reusing the PreferenceActivity to save preferences to a file or is it a case of creating a whole new activity to do the job? If the latter is the case is there a layout I can use that will make the activity look like the normal preferences screen? PreferenceActivity uses com.android.internal.R.layout.preference_list_content but this doesn't appear to be available to apps for reuse.

  • Custom CheckBoxList in ASP.NET

    Since ASP.NET's CheckBoxList control does not allow itself to be validated with one of the standard validation controls (i.e., RequiredFieldValidator), I would like to create a UserControl that I can use in my project whenever I need a checkbox list that requires one or more boxes to be checked. The standard CheckBoxList can be dragged onto a page, and then you can manually add <asp:ListItem> controls if you want. Is there any way I can create a UserControl that lets me manually (in the markup, not programmatically) insert ListItems from my page in a similar manner? In other words, can I insert a UserControl onto a page, and then from the Designer view of the Page (i.e., not the designer view of the UserControl), can I manually add my ListItems like so: <uc1:RequiredCheckBoxList> <asp:ListItem Text="A" value="B"></asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem Text="X" value="Y"></asp:ListItem> </uc1:RequiredCheckBoxList> If a UserControl is not the appropriate choice for the end result I'm looking for, I'm open to other suggestions. Please note that I am aware of the CustomValidator control (which is how I plan to validate within my UserControl). It's just a pain to write the same basic code each time I need one of these required checkbox lists, which is why I want to create a re-usable control.

  • Custom flash uploader breaks only on Media Temple

    I've built a flash uploader to upload files up to 100MB using a php backend. It works wonderfully on our dev server, on a hostgator vps, and on one of our clients' servers running Debian. It will not work on our Media Temple (dv)3.5 and I don't know why. The upload will start but will choke after a few seconds with this flash error message: ioerror: [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #2038: File I/O Error. URL: http://..._upload.php"] The problem seems to be specific to the asynchronous nature of the flash uploader because if I try a straight php upload it works fine. The php.ini settings are set to allow such a large upload as well. Also, I've thoroughly googled flash, 2038, I/O error, etc but have yet to find anything that helped. Here's the weird part though: We work in Seattle. It won't work from the office. It won't work from home. But, while on the phone with MT's support, they were able to upload a file through our flash uploader just fine. I'm not sure where his office was located but I think it was Atlanta. So the problem also seems specific to physical location. Has anyone run into this sort of problem before?

  • Custom uitoolbar gets partly hidden

    I'd like to add a custom UIToolbar to my UIViewController. In Interface Builder I add the uitoolbar at the top of my view, and it looks just fine. However, when I run the app in the Simulator it gets hidden by the default iphone bar (this one with the clock, battery status, etc.). Here you can see how it looks like: Any ideas?

  • What is the best way to move a UIToolbar?

    Here is an interesting problem. On the iPhone, I have a view set up that has a toolbar on the bottom of the screen. I am currently trying to make this a universal app so that it runs on iPad as well. The call to errorString tells me that the webView's origin is at 0,44 (where it should be) and that the toolbar's origin is at 0,0, but it is actually somewhere in the middle of the screen! Anybody have a clue what is going on here?

I can create a new method in my membership provider which returns MyMembershipUser but then I think it won't make any sense. How would I go about doing this?

Is it possible to specify a custom command so that I can use something like \dialogue{Johnny} Some dialogue. \dialogue{Jane} I see. instead?

    I'm trying to use a custom sort with a ListView, as described in this blog entry. I'm doing ListCollectionView view = (ListCollectionView)CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(TheList.ItemsSource); as recommended there and in several other places, but for some reason I'm getting "Unable to cast object of type 'MS.Internal.Data.EnumerableCollectionView' to type 'System.Windows.Data.ListCollectionView'." (TheList is of type ListView). What could be causing this?

  • Starting/Stopping Custom PHP Chat Server Linux Service (CentOS)

    I have been trying all night to get this service working properly. I created this script from a template and am very new to bash coding. I wrote a fully functioning chat server in php which runs endlessly, but now want to make it a dedicated service. I want to do this so that it starts on server boot and boots back up if possible when there are any down-times with the server. The issue is that I need this thing to run in a detached screen so that I can monitor packet data or send server commands via SSH when need-be. The main problem that i'm having is that it needs to have its own PID when it starts so that I can stop/restart it when needed. I am the type who grinds on coding until I figure it out, but this is so new to me that it seems the learning curve here is very steep and frustrating.     I'd like to write a service that periodically checks a POP3 account for new messages and based on custom business logic forwards the messages to an appropriate "To", and possibly changes the "From" as well. I might need to keep some messages on the server until certain conditions are ready for them to be forwarded.     Getting the hardware in the mail any day. Hardware related to my question: x10 15.5k RPM SAS Segate Cheetah's x2 Adaptec 5405 PCIe Raid cards Motherboard has integrated SAS raid. Was thinking I would build 2 RAID 10 arrays one for data and one for logs The remaining 2 drives a RAID 0 for TempDB Will probably throw in a drive for OS. Does putting the Sql Server application / exe's on a raid make a difference and is there any impact of leaving the OS on a relatively slow disk compared to the raid arrays? I have 5/6 DBs combined < 50 gigs. With a relatively good / constant load. Estimating 60-7% reads vs writes. Planning on using log shipping as well if that matters. Any advice or suggestions?

    Hi, I'm new to Android and trying to convert a Windows Mobile app to java/android. In WM there are the followning standard folders: Inbox,Sent, dratfs, outbox, deleted. I'm able to access all folders except deleted with Uri.parse("content://sms/XXXXXX") 1) Is deleted folder missing? 2) Is it possible to create user folders, like "content://sms/My Folder" Thanks, Nicholas

    I am attempting to use MapKit to create a custom map (similar to this concept http://mapwow.com/) using an image instead of the google maps image. This is so we can include the gps functionality and the pins functionality. I have looked in the documentation and there does not appear to be a standard way of doing it. Is there a way to do this using MapKit or has someone found a way to achieve something similar?

  • SQL Server User Mapping - Limit view of databases for a user

    Hi there, I am adding a new Login with SQL Server Authentication. I set its Server Role as public and then went into User Mapping, selecting the only database this user should have access to. I then change the Default Schema to dbo and made this user the db_owner. I then connect to the instance using the new user's credentials and I can see not only the database he should have access to but all the other attached databases. How can I limit this user to just see the database he has access to? Thanks in advance!
