  • Serializing data from a RSS feed in ASP.NET/C#

    I'd like the user to specify a RSS feed address and serialize the information from it. I am not interested in the XML format, but populate a strongly typed object from the XML. My question is, is there a standard that all RSS feeds support (Do all of them have date, title etc)? If so, is there a XSD that describes this. If not, how do I handle serializing a RSS feed to an object in ASP.NET?

    Since Windows doesnt have a C++ locale with UTF8 support by default, i would like to construct a custom locale object which supports UTF8 (by creating it with a custom ctype facet). How can i construct a locale object with a my own ctype implementation (i only found functions to construct a locale using an already existing locale as base..) If C++ does not support construction of locales with a custom ctype facet at all, why is that so ?

  • WCF service and COM interop callback

    I have a COM object that creates an instance of a WCF service and passes a handle to itself as a callback. The com object is marked/initialized as MTA. The problem being every instance of the WCF service that makes a call to the callback occurs on the same thread so they are being processed one at a time which is causing session timeouts under a heavy load. The WCF service is session based not sure if that makes any difference.

  • Select a random row from table, but with odds?

    I have a table that describes a variety of objects in my system (ie. umbrella, boots, satchel, whatever). Each one of these objects needs to have a distinct prevalence or incidence. For example, the umbrella is rarer than the boots. Based on those factors, I need to randomly select a single object (including a blank or 'no object found') based on that incidence value. Yikes. Make sense?

Because when I anonymously implement an interface in one thread, and pass it to another thread to be run, all of its methods are run in the original thread. If they are bound to their creation thread, is there anyway to create an object that will run in whatever thread calls it?

  • GAE Datastore: persisting referenced objects

    Two "I'm sorries" to begin with: 1) I've looked for a solution (here, and elsewhere), and couldn't find the answer. 2) English is not my mother tongue, so I may have some typos and the sort - please ignore them. To the point: I am trying to persist Java objects to the GAE datastore. I am not sure as to how to persist object having ("non-trivial") referenced object. That is, assume I have the following. public class Father { String name; int age; Vector<Child> offsprings; //this is what I call "non-trivial" reference //ctor, getters, setters... } public class Child { String name; int age; Father father; //this is what I call "non-trivial" reference //ctor, getters, setters... } The name field is unique in each type domain, and is considered a Primary-Key. In order to persist the "trivial" (String, int) fields, all I need is to add the correct annotation. So far so good. However, I don't understand how should I persist the home-brewed (Child, Father) types referenced. Should I: Convert each such reference to hold the Primary-Key (a name String, in this example) instead of the "actual" object. So, Vector<Child> offsprings; becomes Vector<String> offspringsNames; ? If that is the case, how do I handle the object at run-time? Do I just query for the Primary-Key from Class.getName, to retrieve the refrenced objects? Convert each such reference to hold the actual Key provided to me by the Datastore upon the proper put() operation? So, Vector<Child> offsprings; becomes Vector<Key> offspringsHashKeys; ? I would very much appreciate all kinds of comments. I have read ALL the offical relevant GAE docs/example. Throughout, they always persist "trivial" references, natively supported by the Datastore (e.g. in the Guestbook example, only Strings, and Longs). Many thanks, David

    I'm writing a DLL that has function for getting Alfresco login ticket without using user password, using only a user principal name (UPN). I’m calling alfresco REST API service /wcservice. I use NTLM in Alfresco. I’m impersonating users using WindowsIdentity constructor as explained here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998351.aspx#paght000023_impersonatingbyusingwindowsidentity. I checked and user is properly impersonated (I checked WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name property). After impersonating a user, I try to make HttpWebRequest and set its credentials with CredentialsCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials. I get the error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() When I use new NetworkCredential("username", "P@ssw0rd") to set request credentials, I get Alfresco login ticket (HttpStatusCode.OK, 200). Is there any way that I can get Alfresco login ticket without user password?     I have a simple application that users jquery-ui's draggable and droppable. In Firefox, it works perfectly. In Chrome, however, I'm having problems. This is the code: $(".cell").droppable({ drop: function(event, ui) { var originalTarget = event.originalTarget; ... } }); In Chrome the 'event' object is of type 'Object' (using Chrome Dev Kit), and event.originalTarget is 'undefined'. What am I doing wrong?

  • Complex Entity Framework linked-graphs issue: how to limit change set / break the graph?

    I have an EDMX containing Sentences, and Words, say and a Sentence contains three Words, say. Appropriate FK relationships exist between the tables. I create some words: Word word1 = new Word(); Word word2 = ... I build a Sentence: Sentence x = new Sentence (word1, word2, word3); I build another Sentence: Sentence y = new Sentence (word1, word4, word5); I try to save x to the database, but EF builds a change set that includes everything, including y, word4 and word5 that aren't ready to save to the database. When SaveChanges() happens it throws an exception: Unable to determine the principal end of the ... relationship. Multiple added entities may have the same primary key. I think it does this because Word has an EntityCollection<Sentence> on it from the FK relationship between the two tables, and thus Sentence y is inextricably linked to Sentence x through word1. So I remove the Navigation Property Sentences from Word and try again. It still tries to put the entire graph into the change set. What suggestions do the Entity Framework experts have for ways to break this connection. Essentially what I want is a one-way mapping from Sentence to Word; I don't want an EntityCollection<Sentence> on Word and I don't want the object graph to get intertwined like this. Code sample: This puts two sentences into the database because Verb1 links them and EF explores the entire graph of existing objects and added objects when you do Add/SaveChanges. I have no problem getting the other non-collection fields back.     I've got a very simple Action on my Controller that's attempting to return my XmlSiteMap as a JsonResult: public ActionResult Index() { var nodes = SiteMap.Provider.RootNode; return new JsonResult() { Data = nodes, JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet }; } However, when I call the Action, an InvalidOperationException is thrown: "A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type 'System.Web.SiteMapNode'." Is there a way to Json serialize a SiteMap, or indeed any object that has children of the same type?
