    I am using gLabels to print a page of the same label which is an address that I entered in a text box. I want to put part of it in bold - e.g. the postcode and post town. I can change the whole text but I can't find how to select just part of it. I used to be able to do it on my old system but I can't find where to do it now. I am probably getting senile and it is very simple but please will someone help me.

    I have created a bootable USB drive using SYSLINUX I am booting my x86 system correctly. Once system boots I want to stop at console (command prompt) where I can type linux commands (cd etc) and run my executable file manually. Does that mean I have to have busy box installed (for basic commands). What makes system stop at command prompt? I do have /dev/console. My serial console is tty1.   • why opening a port is so difficult in ubuntu?

    I have searched around and I have run these commands iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -d 0/0 -s 0/0 --dport 5432 -j ACCEPT iptables-save > /etc/iptables.rules And I rebooted the box. I had no luck. What am I missing? IS there a universal way to do this thing in ubuntu? I remember in fedora I just need to edit a text file and make it happen.   • Language support problems

    I'm running 11.04. I want the system language to be in German. When I go to Language Support and Install/Remove Languages, I check the German box and Apply Changes. However I'm told that the package is already installed and that there isn't any need for an installation. Expanding the Details shows: Package [dbus.String(u'libreoffice-gnome')] is already installed However, German doesn't appear in the Language for menus and windows list. How should I resolve this? The problem is the same when I tried Esperanto and Afrikaans.

    I'm using TexturePacker in one of my games, though when packing a bunch of textures their extension is kept in the data file. So when I want to find a texture I need to search for "image.png" instead of just "image". Is there an option to let texture packer ignore the extensions of my source images in the data file? Solved: So if anyone else wants this, here's the exported I made: https://www.box.com/s/bf12q1i1yc9jr2c5yehd Just extract it into "C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeAndWeb\TexturePacker\bin\exporters\UIToolkit No Extensions" (or something similar) and it should show op as an exporter.

I do not want to use as a "trial version", or to set up a dual boot or run in a virtual system. I have kids that are killing my computer & everything on my HD, they need their own OS & drive but don't have the $$$ for a laptop for them, I just want it to work on the USB the same way it works on the C: drive

    Using the following html, css,jquery, js, what would be the best approach to achieving this. A visitor hits the website. The website page is displaying html and a css3 animation. The visitor is given the option to enter text freely into a text box, they enter an email address and hit send. The person receiving the message gets an email with a link, when they click the link it takes them to the webpage with the animation and the custom message their friend entered.     Possible Duplicate: How to remove Ubuntu and put Windows back on? I have no idea what was deleted or uninstalled or even what system ran previously on the computer. The computers are public computers for an office and no one know's how to use this system! Most people can't figure it out and have never even heard of it (I have because I knew someone who ran it)!! So how do I remove it? Is there anyway to just do a virtual restore? I'm hoping it was windows 7 on here previously cause don't most 7 systems have a built in windows installation disk iso? Anyone know how or if this can be fixed?? No we don't have the re-installation disks (if we did I would know the system and not have a problem) HELP!!!!

  • Does low latency code sometimes have to be "ugly"?

    (This is mainly aimed at those who have specific knowledge of low latency systems, to avoid people just answering with unsubstantiated opinions). Do you feel there is a trade-off between writing "nice" object orientated code and writing very fast low latency code? For instance, avoiding virtual functions in C++/the overhead of polymorphism etc- re-writing code which looks nasty, but is very fast etc? It stands to reason- who cares if it looks ugly (so long as its maintainable)- if you need speed, you need speed? I would be interested to hear from people who have worked in such areas.

  • How can I find the closest vector to another in a specific direction?

    Perhaps I am not phrasing it incorrectly in my searches, but I can not find anything on this. I have a vector3 with a specific direction that it is facing, I want to get the closest object to that position in that specific direction. Basically I want to get the object that is being aimed at. I have thought about finding all objects within a box and then finding the closest object to my vector from them results, but I am sure that there is a more efficient way.   • Need some help fixing fonts (11.04 Alpha 3)

    Hi I changed my Application Font and Window Font to something much better looking but it has a few problems. The font is Umpush Light. It's doing this in the software center: http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/8307/workspace1004.png If I increase the font size from 11 to 12, that problem goes away, but then everything is too large. When I increase it this also happens: http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6231/workspace1006e.png It starts moving the text in the search box up, and the "All Applications" drop down gets messed up too. It seems like there is too much padding around the font or something. Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?

I've been trying to install Java JDK for the past two hours without any success because when I try to do so, Terminal asks for my password, which I don't even remember creating.   • How would I go about updating my electronic circuit simulator's 'electricity'?

    I have made an application which allows the user to place down wires, power sources, and inverters on a virtual circuit board. All connections between tiles are automatic, as shown here: As you can see in the last image, the updating of power throughout this grid is not yet functioning. I think I understand how to do this updating conceptually, but getting it to work in my program is appearing to be much more difficult than I first imagined. My source code can be found here. If you have any tips as to how to I might approach this monstrous task, please let me know. EDIT The goal here is to simply get a working application. Getting tiles to pass on power to their neighbors is quite easy, but the tricky part is getting wires to "unpower" after the removal of a power source. The size of the grid is just 18x18, so efficiency really isn't a factor, for those wondering.

  • Samba login before requesting list of shares?

    I'm relatively inexperienced at this and am starting to get a little frustrated: I have a Ubuntu Server with several user accounts. The Samba file server hosts a number of public shares + the home directories of each user as a private share. When connecting to the server using my OSX machine, I am prompted to enter my login data, and get a overview of all the public shares + my accounts home directory share. Exactly the way I want it. How ever, when I connect to the server from a Ubuntu machine, I am never prompted to enter any login data, and can only see the public folders. If a user wants to connect to their home directory on the server, they have to go through "connect to server" and mount their specific private share. Is there anyway to configure Samba or the Ubuntu client in a way that will make the user experience more similar to how it is on my OSX box? Thank you for your time!

    Forgive me for asking a career related question - I know that they can be frowned upon here, but I think that this one is general enough to be useful to many people. My question is: How easy/difficult is it to get a job using language/frameowork B, when your current job uses language/framework A? e.g. If you use C#/ASP.NET in your current job, how difficult would it be to get a job using python/django, or PHP/Zend, or whatever (the specifics of the example don't matter). Relatedly, if you work in client side scripting, but perhaps work on server-side projects in your own time, how difficult would it be to switch to server-side professionally? So, to sum up, does the choice of which languages/frameworks use at work tend to box you in professionally?

    Given: vm - a WinXPsp3 virtual machine hosted by a Win7sp1 physical machine alice is the user on vm srv - a Win2008R2sp1 server bob is the user on srv quake - a linux server mark is the user on quake Both vm and srv have the same new installation of cygwin (1.7.9) and openssh.
