• Making .net navigation menu role specific

  Hello all. I'm currently using the good ol login control, .net membership & role providers for a web app I'm building. I have a tabbed navigation menu that I want to make role specific i.e. everyones sees 'Home', one role would be able to see additional tabs, another would be able to see three, etc. Doe sthe allow for such a thing? Has anyone created such a navigation menu and could point a newbie in the right direction? Any help gratefully received.

• How to continuously fade a BitmapData to a certain color?

  I'm drawing stuff on a bitmapData and I need to continuously fade every pixel to 0x808080 while still drawing (its for a DisplacementMapFilter)... I think this illustrates my problem: http://www.ventdaval.com/lab/grey.swf The simpler approach I tried was drawing a semi-transparent grey box on it, but it never reaches a single color (i.e. 0x808081 will never be turned to 0x808080)... The same kind of thing happens with a ColorMatrixFilter trying to progressively reduce the saturation and/or contrast. (the example above is applying a filter with -10 contrast every frame). I'm trying paletteMap now, and I'm sensing this could be the way to go, but I haven't been able to get it... any ideas?

• Is it required to generate java classes to use spring-ws client

  Hi, I want to use spring ws to create the webservice client. I have seen some documentation. In all using jaxb marshalling and unmarshalling. But to start of need to create java classes from xsd. I tried to download the elcipse plugin for this. The location in java.net is not showing any thing to download. Sourceforce net showing the link to download. But that plugin is not working. I have tried wsimport, but it is generating only .classes? My question is if i want to use spring ws, is it required to generate .java classes? If so where can i find the elipse plugin or how to generate the classes? Is there any other way we can do without generating these classes?

• Need help with fonts in latex: output too dim

  I have a problem where all fonts come out too dim. Is there any thing I can do to get a different look and feel from the pdfs?   Hi all Assuming I have a method which accepts an IList or similar thing as a parameter: public void JiggleMyList(IList<string> list)... Is there an easy way that I can pass in string members of a list of objects? I mean, if for example, I have a list of Person objects which expose a string property called FullName, is there a quick way to stuff the FullNames of all the Person objects into the method parameter, or do I have to create a new List and iterate through the Person objects: List<string> fullNames = new List<string>; foreach (Person person in people) { fullNames.Add(person.FullName); } JiggleMyList(fullNames); I come across this all the time, and it would be nice if there was a shortcut. • sound volume increase beyond 100% whenever possible on linux

  Some audio output from files or streams is too low. It is obvious that hardware is able to play the same sounds but louder but because of the data it just plays it at some low level even at 100% volume. Vlc can generally increase the volume of a file up to 200%. Is there a way to do the same thing VLC does system-wide and if possible for an arbitrary v percentage value. If there is no application that does this, where should i look into for libs to do it myself or what code should i modify(eg code in the alsamixer) thank you

• Deleting QWinWidget

  Hello I am using mfc to Qt migration and I am showing Qt dialogs in my Mfc app. Is it Ok to deleteLater QWinWidget in its winEvent handler? The thing is that I want all of my open Qt dialogs in My Mfc application to be automatically deleted when the main mfc window is closed. Since WM_DESTROY will be sent for all child windows ( and the Qt widgets too) So I added the following code in QwinWidget winEvent handler : QWinWidget::winEvent(MSG * message, long * result) { ........ if(message->message == WM_DESTROY ) deleteLater(); return false; } Can someone comment this Thanks

• Does SQL Server Compact Edition (SqlCe) have a SNAPSHOT table like Oracle Lite?

  In Oracle Lite, you can create a SNAPSHOT table which is like a normal table except that it tracks changes to itself. The syntax is CREATE SNAPSHOT TABLE tblWhatever ... and you can perform CRUD operations on it like a normal table. To get the change information, you query the table like this: SELECT * FROM tblWhatever + WHERE ... which returns all the rows in the table (including deleted ones) meeting the WHERE clause, and you can access each row's row_state column as a normal field (which is invisible to a normal SELECT * FROM tblWhatever WHERE ... query). Is there some way to do the same thing with Sql Compact Edition (3.5) - i.e. create a table that tracks changes without using RDA?

  I'm trying to have some fun with fluxus, but its manual and online docs all seem to assume that the reader is already an expert network programmer who's never heard of Scheme before. Consequently, you get passages that try to explain the very basics of prefix notation, but assume that you know how to pipe sound-card data into the program, or setup and connect to an OSC process. Is there any tutorial out there that goes the opposite way? IE, assumes that you already have a handle on the Lisp/Scheme thing, but need some pointers before you can properly set up sound sources or an OSC server? Barring that, does anyone know how to get (for example) the system microphone to connect to (fluxus), or how to get it to play a sound file from disk?

• Why am I getting this WSDL SOAP error with authorize.net?

  I have my script email me when there is a problem creating a recurring transaction with authorize.net. I received the following at 5:23AM Pacific time: SOAP-ERROR: Parsing WSDL: Couldn't load from 'https://api.authorize.net/soap/v1/service.asmx?wsdl' : failed to load external entity "https://api.authorize.net/soap/v1/service.asmx?wsdl" And of course, when I did exactly the same thing that the user did, it worked fine for me. Does this mean authorize.net's API is down? Their knowledge base simply sucks and provides no information whatsoever about this problem. I've contacted the company, but I'm not holding my breath for a response. Google reveals nothing. Looking through their code, nothing stands out. Maybe an authentication error? Has anyone seen an error like this before? What causes this?

  I am trying to make a WPF Application and using the Visio Controls. I have a dll named AxInterop.Microsoft.Office.Interop.VisOcx and I refer it to instantiate an object of the type AxDrawingControl(). Now as soon as I write this code: AxDrawingControl objDrawControl=new AxDrawingControl(); and check the attributes of this object objDrawControl in the debug mode, I see this message: Exception of type 'System.Windows.Forms.AxHost+InvalidActiveXStateException' was thrown. • WPF Binding XAML vs C#

  Hello, I've got a strange problem - binding created through XAML (both ways by markup extension or normal) isn't working(BindingOperations.IsDataBound returns false and in fact there is no Binding object created). When I do literally the same from code everything is working perfectly. One more thing is that the Binding in XAML is created in a DataTemplate - what's funny about that when I use the DataTemplate for the first time it fails, then I fix it from code (add binding to specific objects) and while adding more objects to the collection the binding set in XAML just works. If I try to remove all the objects from the collection and then add a new one the binding fails once again. In reality this is a shortened version of another of my questions. • Multiple return points in scala closure/anonymous function

  As far as I understand it, there is no way in Scala to have multiple return points in an anonymous function, i.e. someList.map((i) => { if (i%2 == 0) return i // the early return allows me to avoid the else clause doMoreStuffAndReturnSomething(i) }) raises an error: return outside method definition. (And if it weren’t to raise that, the code would not work as I’d like it to work.) One workaround I could thing of would be the following someList.map({ def f(i: Int):Int = { if (i%2 == 0) return i doMoreStuffAndReturnSomething(i) } f }) however, I’d like to know if there is another ‘accepted’ way of doing this. Maybe a possibility to go without a name for the inner function? (A use case would be to emulate some valued continue construct inside the loop.)

• Implementing a Suspension or Penalty System for Users in ASP.NET MVC

  I'm writing a site in ASP.NET MVC that will have user accounts. As the site will be oriented towards discussion, I think I need a system for admins to be able to moderate users, just like we have here, on Stack Overflow. I'd like to be able to put a user into a "suspension", so that they are able to log in to the site (at which point they are greeted with a message, such as, "Your account has been suspended until [DATE]"), but are unable to do the functions that users they would normally be able to do. What's the best way of implementing this? I was thinking of creating a "Suspended" role, but the thing is, I have a few different roles for normal users themselves, with different privileges. Have you ever designed a feature like this before? How should I do it? Thanks in advance.

• Obey the MediaBox/CropBox in PDF when using ghostscript to render a PDF to a png

  I've been using ghostscript to convert my single figure plots rendered in PDF to png: gswin32c -sDEVICE=png16m -r300x300 -sOutputFile=junk.png -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE Figure_001-a.pdf This works in the sense I get a png out and it contians the plot. But it contains a huge amount of white space as well (an example source image: http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1258681/files/Figure_001-a.pdf). If you view it in Acrobat you'll note there is no white space around the plot. If you use the above command line you'll find the plot is only about 1/3 of the space. When doing the same thing with an eps file I run into the same problem. However, there is the command-line parameter -dEPSCrop that one can pass to get the PS rendering engine to pay attention to the BoundingBox. I need the similar argument for rendering PDF's. I was not able to find it in docs (nor even the EPSCrop, actually).

Now just so i have a goal in mind, I picked angry birds as my initial target of what sort of game play would I like to learn to build. This is not going to be a market release game. This is totally going to be learning purposes only. So to start off my question is: Would something like this be achievable using Cocos2d? How would I go about building the physics for this? How can one do a screen scroll like the way they do in cocos2d? (any example code would be great) This is just to start off. If you have any particular questions please do add to this question.

• Turning Separate iPad/iPhone Targets into Universal App

  I, when I got my hands on the iPad SDK Beta, thought the universal binary would be to much work, so i opted for the separate targets. I realized halfway through making the iPad portion of my app, that making a universal application would be easy as pie. The issue is, I can't use Apple's option to convert my iPhone Target to Universal. The only thing that I would need to do in the Info.plist of the universal application would be to set a different MainWindow. How could I approach the problem? Is there a workaround to get Apple's way to work (maybe by deleting the existing iPad Target)? Is there a good way to do it manually? Since the call to channel.__next__ needs to be returned when the callback <IRCClient instance>.privmsg is called, there doesn't seem to be a clean option. Using exceptions or threads seems like the wrong thing here, is there a simpler (blocking?) way of using twisted that would make this possible?

No such app as fierce-fog-63 fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly It's weird that I am getting this now, I have pushed the app to heroku many times without issue. the especially weird thing is, fierce-fog-63 is an old app that I made a deleted a long time ago. Why is it now that heroku is trying to push to this app that doesn't exist anymore, especially when I have created a new one. Any suggestions?

  After building a project group of 2 projects with Delphi (2009) I digitally sign the 2 exes using InstallAware Code signing, an exe that shipped with Delphi 2009. How is it possible to automize the digital signature, so when I build I can also attach digital signature. For digital signing I use a pvk (private key) file and an spc (Sw publisher certificate) file. Subquestion: Moreover I created a project group because I have 2 exes, but they are almost the same, the only thing that changes is the Application icon and the application name (one is ProductOne.dpr, the other is ProductTwo.dpr). In practice I have 2 brands of the same product, I have a single build but activation keys details activate one or the other, anyway now I was asked to change the icon and the filename, and for this I need to build 2 projects, activation key is not enough anymore to distinguish between the 2. Anyway if there is a way to do this from a single project it would be better.

• mysql C connector unresolved symbols on Win2k8 but not on XP?

  I have a visual C++ 2008 express project which compiles fine on Windows XP with mysql C connector 6.0.2. When I copy the project over to a Windows Server 2008 x64 machine, it gets a bunch of linker errors like "unresolved external symbol _mysql_server_end@0" "unresolved external symbol _mysql_close@4" "unresolved external _mysql_real_connect@32". Is the mysql C connector 6.0.2 known to not work with Win Server 2008? (Note, the C connector is installed into the same place on both machines, and since I just copied over the project wholesale, it still has the correct libmysql.lib include. The interesting thing is that the errors I get on XP if I remove the libmysql.lib are not the same errors I'm getting on Win2k8, so that's what makes me think it might be an incompatibility...or maybe it's just because win2k8 is x64 and XP is x86?) • counter variable not working?

  Just like many things in rails, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... Showing app/views/admin/products/_variant.html.erb where line #8 raised: undefined local variable or method `variant_counter' for #<ActionView::Base:0x107f7ae10> I only want to display variant_counter from partial _variant. This was the render caller code: <%= render :partial => '/admin/products/variant', :collection => product.variants %> The funny thing is, I have been using partial counter heaps number of times, somehow now I encountered this issue. Could anybody point me out what are there to find out what may went wrong?

• Trying to run psexec to remote to server and recycle app pool

  If I run this from my command prompt it works fine. psexec \ServerName cscript.exe iisapp.vbs /a AppName /r I'm trying to do the same thing with C# console app. I'm using the below code but most of the time the application hangs and doesn't complete, and the few times it does it throws an error code. Am I doing this wrong?
