  I have a co-worker who is trying to get log4j to behave as follows: Log to Stdout By default, disable most output Show only messages from java.sql.PrepareStatement at level debug and up He's getting caught up in the 'level' vs 'priority'. • Facelets charset problem

  Hi! In my earlier post there was a problem with JSF charset handling, but also the other part of the problem was MySQL connection parameters for inserting data into db. The problem was solved. But, I migrated the same application from JSP to facelets and the same problem happened again. Characters from input fields are replaced when inserting to database (c is replaced with Ä), but data inserted into db from sql scripts with proper charset are displayed correctly. I'm still using registered filter and page templates are used with head meta tag as following: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-2"> If I insert into h:form tag the following attribute: acceptcharset="iso-8859-2" I get correct characters in Firefox, but not in IE7. Is there anything else I should do to make it work? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I'm trying to build some kind of a social game in facebook, where I need that every user that has approved my APP is able to receive notifications from me. When the user approves my App, I save his UID in the DB for future reference. At some later time, I want to make it possible for other users find partners for a game - so I need a way to pick randomly some user from my DB and check if he's online. Then, send him a message and propose to play with the current player. So 2 questions: How can I check if some user is online, using Javascript SDK? It seems that in the new Graph API I can't get the users' online status. How can I then send him a message and propose to play the game?   Hello I have a VS2008 windows application project (WinProject) which is deployed by the installation project (InstallationProject) which inturn has the property RemovePreviousVersions set to True. In my app for each configuration made by an user, the winapp writes the configurations into an xml file (stored in C:\Application Name\Files\ folder) which also includes the path where the config was saved. Now when I build new versions of the installer,This folder and the files are overwritten since i the flag AlwaysCreate is set to True. My question is how can i avoid these older files from being overwritten and at the same time shall get the updated file from the installer. • how to debug MySql stored procs without breaking control flow from application

  Is there a way to do the following: I have a MySQL DB , and there are many stored procs written in it as well. I use MySQL client library in C to connect to this DB and amongst other things , call the stored procedures. Is there a way to set breakpoints in the stored procedures such that when the call is made from C program ( using mySql client library ) into the stored proc , then control flow is halted in the C program and we can step into the stored proc called to whatever level of nesting and insspecting variables etc ( like any decent C debugged provides )? Is there ANY way to do the above ? Through some third party tool or the like if not through plain MySql . Help is appreciated. thanks

Just to be sure I double checked the .NET version on the different machines (I thought perhaps the usage of @ before a string was version-dependent); all machines use 2.0.50727. • can javascript process binary data?

  admit me describe my questions in situation-oriented way: assume IE is still the dominate web browser(the firefox have document for binary processing): the XMLHttpRequest.responseText or XMLHttpRequest.responseXML in ie desire txt or xml/xhtml/html,but what about the server response the xmlHttprequest whith MIME TYPE application/octet ? would the response string all little than 256 ?(every char of that string < 256), thanks very much for a straight answer, i have no webserver env,so i don't know how to test it out. because use txt or xml have a issue of character set encode, and i don't know how to process #[[[CDDATA node of one encoded xml(ex : utf-8,ascii,gb18030) with javascript, when i getNodeText, does the docObj return me byte or decoded char ? if it was decoded char which according to the header indicated charSet in the httpresponse , it would be all wrong. to avoid mess up with charSet ,i would like the server to response octet data and force strings data to be encoded as utf-8 but another charSet in the binary format. if the response is octal, so i guess the browser would not try to decode the response"txt" does this weird? or miss understanding the fundamental things? EDIT: I believe the question is asking this: Can Javascript safely process strings that aren't encoded in Unicode? What are the problems with trying to do so? EDIT: no no no , i means if http-header: content-type is "application/octet" , would the ie try to decoded it as (16bits Unicode | ie local setting charset ) when i get XMLHttpRequestobj.responseText use javascript ? or it(ie) just wrap every single byte of the response body as a javascript string, then every char in that string little than or equal 256 (char<=256), am i talking Mars language? sadly, if i were Marsizen,i would come as tourist without fuzzy questions. however i am in a country which share at least one property with Mars : RED

  Hello, I need to join two tables from different MySQL (PHP) connection strings and different databases. $conn = mysql_connect('192.168.30.20', 'user', 'pass'); $conn2 = mysql_connect('anotherIPHere', 'user2', 'pass2'); $db = mysql_select_db('1stdb', $conn); $db2 = mysql_select_db('2nddb', $conn2); If I were using the same connection I would just prefix the tables with the db names, such as database1.table1.column and database2.table2.column2, but since I'm using two completely separate connection strings the MySQL Query does not know which connection string to use, thus the resource is not usable. I've read a ton of resources that show how to use two databases, from the SAME connection string and that is working fine, but I can't find anything related to multiple connection strings and databases. • How to convert a MSSQL database (including procedures, functions and triggers) to a firebird databas

  I am considering migrating to Firebird. To have a "quick start" approach I downloaded the trial of a conversion tool (DBConvert) and tried it. I just picked up a random tool, this tool doesn't convert procedures, functions and triggers (I don't think it is a limit of the trial since there is not an explicit reference to sp, sf and triggers in the link above). Anyway by trying that tool I had the message: "The DB cannot be converted succesfully because some FK names are too long." This is because in some tables I have FK whose description is 32 chars. Is this a real firebird limit or it is possible to overcome it somehow (of course renaming the FK is an extreme option because it is extra work)? Anyway how to convert a MS SQL DB fully to FIREBIRD? Is there a valid tool? Did someone succed in a conversion of non trivial databases?

  I have a problem with saving the £ symbol to a mysql database. I am running a flex front end, with a php + mysql backend When I save a record from flex, the string gets sent to the server as "This amount is £10" php views the string as above, and when it gets saved into the DB, it gets saved as "This amount is £10". My understanding is that this is correct based on MySQL or PHP is appending a  whenever the £ is used I now retrieve the above record, and it gets sent to flex as "This amount is £10". Flex correctly displays this in a textarea as "This amount is £10" I change another field in the same record in flex, and re-save the transaction. The string now gets sent to the server as "This amount is £10" The record is now saved into the DB as "The amount is £10". Each time the record is re-saved, this effect snowballs. Thanks for any advice you can give.

  Is it possible to setup HSQLDB in a way, so that the files with the db information are written into memory instead of using actual files? I want to use hsqldb to export some data structures together with hibernate mappings. Is is, however, not possible to write temporary files, so that I need to generate the files in-memory and return a stream with their contents as a response. Setting hsqldb to use nio seems not to be a solution, because there is no way to get hold of those files before they get written onto the filesystem. What I'm thinking of is a protocol handler for hsqldb, but I didn't find a suitable solution yet. Just to describe in other words: A hack solution would be to pass hsqldb a stream or several streams. It would then during its operation write data into those streams. After all data is written, the user of the db could then use those streams to send it back over the network.

• [PHP] Weird problem with dynamic method invocation

  Hi everyone, this time, I'm facing a really weird problem. I've the following code: $xml = simplexml_load_file($this->interception_file); foreach($xml->children() as $class) { $path = str_replace('__CLASS_DIR__',CLASS_DIR,$class['path']); if(!is_file($path)) { throw new Exception('Bad configuration: file '.$path.' not found'); } $className = pathinfo($path,PATHINFO_FILENAME); foreach($class as $method) { $method_name = $method['name']; $obj = new $className(); var_dump(in_array($method_name,get_class_methods($className)));exit; echo $obj->$method_name();### not a method ??? } } As you can see, I get the class name and method name from an XML file. I can create an instance of the class without any problem. The var_dump at the end returns true, that means $method_name (which has 2 optional parameters) is a method of $className. BUT, and I am pretty sure the syntax is correct, when I try: $obj-$method_name() I get: Fatal error: Method name must be a string If you have any ideas, pleaaaaase tell me :) Thanks in advance, Rolf

  I have a similar concept to the SO questions/tags scenario however am trying to decide the best way of implementation. Tables Questions, QuestionTags and Tags Questions QuestionTags Tags --------- ------------ ---- QID QID TID QName TID TName When adding/updating a question I have 2 textboxes. The important part is a single textbox that allows users to enter in multiple Tags separated by spaces. I am using Linq2Sql so the Questions model has an EntitySet of QuestionTags with then link to Tags. My question is regarding the adding/updating of Questions (part 1), and also how to best show QuestionTags for a Question (part 2). Part 1 Before performing an add/update, my service layer needs to deal with 3 scenarios before passing to their respective repositories. Insert Tags that do not already exist Insert/Update Question Insert QuestionTags - when updating need to remove existing QuestionTags Here is my code below however started to get into a bit of a muddle.   I have wondered when it is best to send an email, and when its best to store data in a database/log file. Everytime a user wants to contact me or inform me of soething, I suppose an email is best.. but is an email always preferred over other ways, and in what cases. Possible reasons for being contacted I can think of are questions, suggestions, feedback, reporting abuse, advertising, etc... I assume email, "why add unnecessary things to the DB?", but I figure data in DB would be a lot easier to manage. Whats the better/best way to be informed of things like this.. What is the best way for you (webmaster) to be informed of something by users? through email, or some other way

I want to use checkstyle in my maven based project, so in my pom.xml I have add the dependency <dependency> <groupId>checkstyle</groupId> <artifactId>checkstyle</artifactId> <version>2.4</version> </dependency> and also I have added the entry in plugin tag: <plugin> <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId> <artifactId>maven-checkstyle-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.4</version> <configuration> <enableRulesSummary>true</enableRulesSummary> <configLocation>checkstyle.xml</configLocation> </configuration> </plugin> But when I run my maven build with command mvn clean install, checkstyle doesn't do anything. And as I dont have any checkstyle.xml in my system yet, shouldn't it complains me about the error? What else configuration am I missing?

  Hi, I am struggling with the correct design for the delegates of nsxmlparser. In order to build my table of Foos, I need to make two types of webservice calls; one for the whole table and one for each row. It's essentially a master-query then detail-query, except the master-query-result-xml doesn't return enough information so i then need to query the detail for each row. I'm not dealing with enormous amounts of data. Anyway - previously I've just used NSXMLParser *parser = [[NSXMLParser alloc]init]; [parser setDelegate:self]; [parser parse]; and implemented all the appropriate delegate methods in whatever class i'm in. In attempt at cleanliness, I've now created two separate delegate classes and done something like: NSXMLParser *xp = [[NSXMLParser alloc]init]; MyMasterXMLParserDelegate *masterParserDelegate = [[MyMasterXMLParser]alloc]init]; [xp setDelegate:masterParserDelegate]; [xp parse]; In addition to being cleaner (in my opinion, at least), it also means each of the -parser:didStartElement implementations don't spend most of the time trying to figure out which xml they're parsing. So now the real crux of the problem. Before i split out the delegates, i had in the main class that was also implementing the delegate methods, a class-level NSMutableArray that I would just put my objects-created-from-xml in when -parser:didEndElement found the 'end' of each record. Now the delegates are in separate classes, I can't figure out how to have the -parser:didEndElement in the 'detail' delegate class "return" the created object to the calling class. At least, not in a clean OO way. I'm sure i could do it with all sorts of nasty class methods. Does the question make sense? Thanks.
