• Android 2.2 deprecates restartPackage but adds another headache...

  Android 2.2 release notes have just been released. ActivityManager.restartPackage method has been deprecated and the description is: the previous behavior here is no longer available to applications because it allows them to break other applications by removing their alarms, stopping their services, etc. Instead 2.2 has given another tool for pesky "task killer" apps by introducing new ActivityManager.killBackgroundProcesses method. More Info Can someone explain whether ActivityManager.killBackgroundProcesses will kill our scheduled alarms? If so, deprecating ActivityManager.restartPackage was pointless as "task killer" will now abuse ActivityManager.killBackgroundProcesses.

• Linq To Sql and identity_insert

  I am trying to do record inserts on a table where the primary key is an Identity field. I have tried calling mycontext.ExecuteCommand("SET identity_insert myTable ON") but this doesn't do any good. I get an error saying that identity_insert is off when I submit changes. How can I turn it ON from the c# code before I submit changes? EDIT I have read that this is because ExecuteCommand's code gets executed in a different session. EDIT 2 Is there any way I can execute some DDL to remove the Identity Specification from my C# code, do the inserts, and then turn Identity Specification back on?

• Refinery CMS (Rails): Creating a plugin or plugins with multiple models and relationships

  My goal is to create a way for an admin to create two models in the Refinery admin: Campaigns and Videos I would like to have it setup so that a Campaign has many Videos and that each Video belongs to a Campaign. Both Videos and Campaigns will have a title, description, and a preview image. I'm not certain of the best way to go about this. Is it possible to setup two plugins and form a relationship between the two? Or, should I create one plugin with both models. If someone could point me in the right direction or a good example of a solution to a similar problem, I would be grateful. Thank you for looking!

• Jquery JQGrid breaks when contentType=application/json?

  I've had to use $.ajaxSetup() to globally change the contentType to application/json $.ajaxSetup({ contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8" }); (See this question for why I had to use application/json http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2792603/aspnet-mvc-why-is-modelstate-isvalid-false-the-x-field-is-required-when-that) But this breaks the jquery jqrid with this error: Invalid JSON primitive: _search The POST data it is trying to send is: _search=false&nd=1274042681880&rows=20&page=1&sidx=&sord=asc Which of is not in json format, so of course it fails. Is there anyway to tell jqrid what contenttype to use? • MVC map to nullable bool in model

  With a view model containing the field: public bool? IsDefault { get; set; } I get an error when trying to map in the view: <%= Html.CheckBoxFor(model => model.IsDefault) %> Cannot implicitly convert type 'bool?' to 'bool'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) I've tried casting, and using .Value and neither worked. Note the behaviour I would like is that submitting the form should set IsDefault in the model to true or false. A value of null simply means that the model has not been populated.

• Google Reader API HTTP Response parsing (Objective C)

  Using the API, trying to get items in a specific feed returns this: {“direction”:”ltr”,”id”:”feed/http://arstechnica.com/index.rssx”,”title”:”Ars Technica”,”description”:”The Art of Technology”,”self”:[{"href":"http://www.google.com/reader/api/0/stream/contents/feed/http://arstechnica.com/index.rssx?ot\u003d1273193172856169\u0026r\u003dn\u0026xt\u003duser/-/state/com.google/read\u0026n\u003d4\u0026ck\u003d1273193873\u0026client\u003diPadReader"}],”alternate”:[{"href":"http://arstechnica.com/index.php","type":"text/html"}],”updated”:1273193873,”items”:[]} They look like key/value pairs but it’s plain text with UTF8 String encoding and won’t encode into a dictionary. I’m using Objective-C and I’m not sure where to go from here. So far I’ve been able to parse the XML response for unread items, but parsing the plain-text doesn’t look feasible. What is your practice?

• SSIS Send Mail task limited to 255 characters in address?

  Is this a bug, or some hidden limit I can't find any documentation about? When creating a Send Mail Task in SSIS 2008, the TO, CC and BCC fields seem to have a hidden limit of 255 characters. I'm aware this is the standard limit for individual email addresses, but all three are commonly used for multiple addresses and the comment for the To field even says "separate the recipients with semicolons". But nevertheless, it truncates the address to a maximum of 255 characters. Bug, non-obvious standard, or something I'm missing? Any way around this? We were trying to build a CC list dynamically, but this has caused a rethink.

• iPhone UITextField controlling background color

  Greetings, I am unable to control the background color of a UITextField with a borderStyle= UITextBorderStyleRoundedRect. With this border style the backgroundColor property only seems to control a very narrow line along the inner edge of the rounded rectangle. The rest of the field remains white. However, if the borderStyle is set to UIBorderStyle=UITextBorderStyleBezel then the entire background of the UITextField is controlled by its backgroundColor property. Is this a feature? Is there a way to control the backgroundColor of a UITextField with a borderStyle=UITextBorderStyleRoundedRect? Thanks, Stephen

  I have this code in my ASP.NET application written in C# that is trying to read the eventlog, but it returns an error. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display the message, or you may not have permission to access them. The following information is part of the event:'Service started successfully.'" I only want the 'Service started successfully'. Any ideas?

If you try to access the various properties of the JavaBean after the transaction that loaded it has been committed, you'll get an exception, a LazyInitializationException, as Hibernate no longer has a valid transactional context to use to hit the database. But with my experiment, using hibernate 3.6, and postgres 9, it doesnt throw any exception at all. Am i missing something ? • EFCreateError with JvCsvDataSet

  I have been using JvCSVDataSet with Delphi 5 and it works fine. I just moved over to Delphi 2007 and now with the same program I get EFCreateError, cannot create file "" I got the error description from MAdexcept 3.0.   The below web services code has worked properly for me for over a year. We have updated our SharePoint servers, and now the below code throws an exception (at the bottom line of code) "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" UserProfileWS.UserProfileService userProfileService = new UserProfileWS.UserProfileService(); userProfileService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials; string serviceloc = "/_vti_bin/UserProfileService.asmx"; userProfileService.Url = _webUrl + serviceloc; UserProfileWS.PropertyData[] info = userProfileService.GetUserProfileByName(null); EDIT: The service is still there. I browse http:///_vti_bin/UserProfileService.asmx, and the information for the service is still there, including the full description of the GetUserProfileByName call. EDIT2: This does appear to be due to a change in SharePoint. I loaded a previous version of my software (known to be working), and it exhibits the same erroneous behavior.

• "Executing SQL directly; no cursor" error when using SCOPE_IDENTITY/IDENT_CURRENT

  There wasn't much on google about this error, so I'm askin here. I'm switching a PHP web application from using MySQL to SQL Server 2008 (using ODBC, not php_mssql). Running queries or anything else isn't a problem, but when I try to do scope_identity (or any similar functions), I get the error "Executing SQL directly; no cursor". I'm doing this immediately after an insert, so it should still be in scope. Running the same insert statement then query for the insert ID works fine in SQL Server Management Studio. Here's my code right now (everything else in the database wrapper class works fine for other queries, so I'll assume it isn't relevant right now): function insert_id(){ return $this->query_first("SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() as insert_id"); } query_first being a function that returns the first result from the first field of a query (basically the equivalent of execute_scalar() on .net). • Modify the Event Log Source name for an SSIS package

  I have an SQL Server integration Services (SSIS) package using the standard Event Log provider (yes, the event log! I know we can use SQL etc...) The default "Source" of the log events is "SQLISPackage100" but I want it to be something like "AppName" so that the errors are more visible between the different packages when viewing the event log (also for MOM use). Event Type: Error Event Source: SQLISPackage100 Event Category: None ... Description: Package "Foo" failed. I hope the answer is simple, I simply cannot find it, but does anyone know how to change the text of the Event Log Source name to something more meaningful? PK :-)

• WinForms - Localization - UI controls positions different in additional Culture

  Hi, I did my UI settings.Original language is English. After that I set Localizable property to True. Copied original resx file to frmMain.de-De.resx (for example). Translated all strings. Everything works. But now I would like to change positions of controls. After that changes are visible only for original/primary Culture (En). When I change Culture to de-De then UI controls are on the "old positions"(?!) Is this normal behaviour? :O I'm unable to change controls positions on my form after localization? Can someone explain me this and give some best solution. I really have to change UI design but I don't want to manual copy all translated strings again. If my description is not clear then I can post source code, just please let me know. I use VS 2008. Greetz!

• Calling WCF Service from Action Script 2

  Hi All, I am a .NET programmer working with a Flash designer on a project. The design is that they will create a flash UI (implemented with AS2) to present a questionnaire. After it is completed by an end user, the will send me (a .net web service of some form) the answers to the questionnaire, I will perform a calculation, and I will send a response back (the response will likely be a single integer, though it may be a touple of (integer score, string description). Neither myself nor the designer is knowledgeable of Action Script. Does anyone have a snippet for such web service calls in AS2? Are there any soap libraries for AS2 that we could use, or should I expose a RESTful interface? Can it be as simple as having the designer concat the questionnaire answers into the query string of the service URL? What would be a typical data format for my response (xml, json, plain text) Thanks in advance for your help. Frank

  Hi, I have a ListView with TextBoxes in second column. I want to validate that my text box does not contain a number if the third column(data_type) is "Text". I am unable to do the validation. I tried a few approaches. In one approach I try to handle the MouseDown event and am trying to get the Row number so that I can get the data_type value of that row. I want to us this value in the Validate method. I have been struggling for a week now. • Richfaces calendar manual input value not binding

  Hi, I've got a richfaces calendar component defined as <rich:calendar id="startDate" value="#{myBean.dateSet.startDate}" timeZone="#{myBean.dateSet.timeZone}" datePattern="#{myBean.dateSet.datePattern}" enableManualInput="true" immediate="true"> <a4j:support event="onchanged" action="#{myBean.adjustEndDate}" reRender="startDate,endDate" ajaxSingle="true" /> </rich:calendar> when I'm changing the date using the calendar popup/gui everything is working fine. However when I'm changing it via the input text field, the value is not being updated to myBean.dateSet.startDate, although it is being updated correctly on the calendar component itself (i.e. if I click the icon for calendar popup it shows the updated current date). Any suggestions on how I can get it to update the value to myBean correctly? Thanks!

• Why does CLLocationManager returns null locations on the iphone SDK 4 beta in the Simulator?

  Hi everyone, I have this piece of code: - (void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation { NSLog(@"Manager did update location!!"); self.currentLocation = newLocation.description; } I have this code inside a class that conforms to the CLLocationManagerDelegate. I tested earlier in sdk 3.0 and works nice (on both simulator and device). I'm testing this class on the SDK 4, in the simulator, but it gives null as a newLocation. I can't even get the NSLog for the first call. I checked other app where I use the location framework and it doesn't work either. I implemented the locationManager:didFailWithError: message also, wich is never called. Can anyone please confirm that the simulator can't do any CLLocationManager capabilities? (a link where the bug is reported as a known issue will be awesome). Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

• OAuth Callback procedure for mobile devices

  Hello, I am designing a Netflix Application for BlackBerry mobile devices. I am currently working on the OAuth. I am at the point where I can generate a Netflix login page in an embedded browser field in my application. After the user signs in, Netflix will send the user from the login page to a specified callback url. The callback url will also contain an authorized token, which is then needed to send back to Netflix. My question is: How am I supposed to do this on a mobile device? Is there a procedure set in place? I am unsure how I can extract the authorized token from the callback URL and send it back to my application. From my research, it does not appear that Netflix will provide a PIN/verifier for the user to then type into the application... Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

That's okay so far because bool is a value type and never null. But even if I make AgreesWithTerms nullable it won't work because the compiler shouts "Templates can be used only with field access, property access, single-dimension array index, or single-parameter custom indexer expressions." So, what's the correct way to handle this?

This datagrid shows item already in collection (before DataGrid.DataContext applied) but not showing new item added. I am using List< instead of ObservableCollection< because I want to update items if user changes quantity. I don't know how to do that using ObservableCollection<. Some code will help thanks

  Can I run a select statement and get the row number if the items are sorted? I have a table like this: mysql> describe orders; +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | orderID | bigint(20) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | itemID | bigint(20) unsigned | NO | | NULL | | +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ I can then run this query to get the number of orders by ID: SELECT itemID, COUNT(*) as ordercount FROM orders GROUP BY itemID ORDER BY ordercount DESC; This gives me a count of each itemID in the table like this: +--------+------------+ | itemID | ordercount | +--------+------------+ | 388 | 3 | | 234 | 2 | | 3432 | 1 | | 693 | 1 | | 3459 | 1 | +--------+------------+ I want to get the row number as well, so I could tell that itemID 388 is the first row, 234 is second, etc (essentially the ranking of the orders, not just a raw count). I know I can do this in java when I get the result set back, but I was wondering if there was a way to handle it purely in SQL.
