    I have an image uploader that uses the imgur.com API and jQuery's .ajax() function to upload images to their servers. However, if I browse for an image using the <input type="file"/> element of the form, it will only be successful in uploading an image if the image file is found in the same directory as the page.php file that the form is found in (shown below).     I am trying to download a page using Silverlight 4 (http://google.com/) from a different domain than where the app is hosted. I'm simply curious if this is possible in the browser. I know I can do it out of the browser, as I tried it already, but trying it in the browser gives a security exception (understandable). I'd like to know if this can even be done, and if so, how?     In writing functions my brain always spends a few milliseconds to check which order of parameters would be best for a given function. should I write: public Comment AddComment(long userID, string title, string text) Or probably: public Comment AddComment(string title, string text, long userID) Why not: public Comment AddComment(string title, long userID, string text) Do you follow any rules when ordering the parameters for your functions? Which parameter would you place first and which would follow?

  • Simple Java Applet not loading in FireFox / Safari on MacOS

    Hello all, I'm probably missing something very basic here. I'm trying to get my first applet to run inside a local HTML page in Firefox 3.6 on Mac OS 10.5.8. Here's the applet's code: package SimpleApplet; import java.applet.Applet; import java.awt.*; public class MyApplet extends Applet { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; public void init() { } public void stop() { } public void paint(Graphics g) { g.drawString("Tweedle-Dee!",20,40); } } Here's the HTML page: <html> <body> Here's the applet: <br/> <applet code="MyApplet.class" width="300" height="150"> </applet> </body> </html> Both files (.class and .html) are in the same folder on my local machine. Now when I load the .html file into Firefox, a rectangle with a red X gets displayed. The applet works when started from Eclipse (using JRE 1.5 BTW). Also, it's not a general problem with my browser, as several pages with applets (e.g. http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/1.4/demo/applets/Blink/example1.html) work. This is also difficult to troubleshoot because there is no output at all on the Java console... Any suggestions are appreciated!

    I am looking for a library in any language--preferably PHP though--that will display the difference between two web pages. The differences can be displayed side-by-side, all in one document, or in any other creative way. Every solution I tried suffered from one or more of the following problems: If I change the attribute of an element (eg. change [table border="1"] to [table border="2"]), then I'll have an extra table tag in the output (eg. [table border="1"][table border="1"][tr][td]...). And, one table tag will have a del tag around it, while the other will have an ins tag around it, and that will obviously cause problems. If I change [html][body][b]some content here[/b][/body][/html] to [html][body][i]some other content here[/i][/body][/html] then it looks like [html][body][b][del]original[/del][i][ins]new[/ins] content here[/b][/i][/body][/html] I'm looking for out-of-the-box ideas. Any ideas are welcome.

  • Can I make any ASP.NET/HTML element into form-data that posts back to the server?

    I am using Javascript to alter the innerHTML attribute of a <td> and I need to get that info back in the form submittal. The <td> corrosponds to an <asp:TableCell> on the server-side, where the Text attribute is set to an initial value. The user cannot enter the value in this particular field. Instead, its value is set by me (via client-side script) based on actions that the user performs. But this field is useless to me if I can't see its value on the server-side as well. I'd like to avoid using a read-only textbox, because those are difficult to resize dynamically. Can an <asp:Label> be used as form data? Is there any way to achive this without letting the user manually enter the data? Or is there a simpler way to store a string as a variable somewhere and send it back as form-data?

  • Nice, clean, simple way of getting a dataset from ASP.NET to plain HTML jQuery or JavaScript library

    I know this is a probable open ended question, and I have tried looking around so much over the last year or two... maybe I am looking for a perfect place that doesn't exist! of course it's all about perception no less.. Anyway, just to clarify what I am trying to do and why: I want to be able to use (primarily for the moment) ASP.NET or services thereof to get a dataset - whatever the source data, I can obviously get a dataset of rows/Columns. I want to be able to, as simply as possible, get that data over to the client via xml/json/whatever, to then use in a "variety" of ways. "Variety" of ways meaning I would like to "easily" bind that data to say a grid, or a combo dropdown or just simply render to a textbox - BUT by referencing the dataset as I would say on the serverside. Now I know this all sounds simplistic, and I know there are lots of complications.. so I have tried the following so far over the last year or so: ExtJS - very good, nice solid framework, but just found it a bit too much to use in everyday basic apps - great if I was building a whole application with it Yahoo YUI - not looked recently, but I guess some of the concepts with ExtJS were similar? JQuery - of course to get data etc, it was ok, and I guess there are so many 3rd party plugins, that a mix and match might work? Adobe SPRY - ironically this was as close to getting a dataset style structure to Javascript/client, although it seemed to drop off/go quiet..? I maybe wrong.. I did have a very cursory play with Tibco GI and another one I cannot remember the name of! but again, it felt like it was great to build a whole app perhaps? Anyway, I am very amazed by all of the technologies coming out, and really not biased one way or the other, I really just want a very simple way of getting data from the server, and having a basic/very flexible way of working with that data in the client without using server technologies.. I need to keep the server flexible as I may need to use PHP, or java technologies not just .NET So again, sorry for the rambles, but if anyone out there has had a simple experience, or would like to share some ideas, it would be very welcomed!!     I'm working on a modal comment system using jQuery and jQuery UI, but I'm having some issues with focus. I have a series of divs inside the modal to switch between Login and Add comment, as below: <div id="modal" title="Loading"> <div id="modalContent"></div> <div id="modalLogin"> <div class="loginBox"></div> <div class="addCommentBox"></div> <div class="commentReview"></div> </div> </div> Inside of the addCommentBox div, I've got the comment code: <form action="/comments/add" class="addCommentForm" name="addCommentForm" method="post"> <textarea name="content" class="addCommentContent"></textarea> <button value="Add Comment" type="submit" class="commentPost"/> <button value="Clear Comment" type="submit" id="clearComment"/> </form> The issue is that about half the time after opening the dialog the textarea inside the addCommentBox div doesn't react to keyboard inputs when selected. The mouse works correctly and will allow text to be selected, but keyboard control does nothing. I have no event listeners on the textarea. I've got some on the buttons, but they are targeting only the buttons. The only thing that happens in the HTML seems to be the fact that every time I click on the modal, the z-index increases for the overall modal div. I have set the addCommentBox div to have a z-index of 9999, greater than the z-index of the modal. Any suggestions or directions to research would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
