• Transparent checkbox with theme-support?

  I'm looking for a simple, transparent checkbox component that properly supports XP/Vista/7 theming. It should also work with Delphi 7. I've found a component on Torry's that's not working properly, and I know that Raize components has a transparent checkbox - but I'm obviously not going to pay $300 for the entire package just to get this single component. I've also found many other solutions, but none of them support theming. The main problem is that TCustomCheckBox is a TWinControl descendant, and in order to implement transparency, you need to make a new TGraphic descendant control from ground up. Any ideas?

  In order to cover for my (glaring) lack of knowledge in the basics of networking, I'm looking for a book which would ideally cover: - 1 or 2 chapters on the transport layer: tcp, udp... - 1 or 2 chapters on the application layer: http, dns... - rest of the book would be devoted to pratical way of sending data across the wire using Java-related technologies. This would involve discussions about existing products (eg. hessian, protobuf, thrift, tibco...) , performances comparisons, case studies...etc.. Does such a book exist ?

• GUI-Library for microcontroller

  I want to create a GUI driven application for a micro-controller (Atmel XMEGA) that is connected to a 128x64 dots graphics LCD (EA DOGL128-6) and 4 buttons for navigation. Controlling the display itself (e.g. drawing pixels and characters) is no problem but in order to prevent me from reinventing the wheel I was googling for a GUI-Library/-Toolkit that is written in c, includes its source code, will run on a 32 MHz 8-bit micro-controller and provides at least the following controls: panel (to group elements) menu (scrollable) icon label button line-graph (optional) But I didn't find any thing useful. Does anyone know (or better uses) such a library(preferably for free)?

• Will JavaScript evaluate a property's value if it's not part of an assignment statement?

  I've come across a fairly obscure problem having to do with measuring a document's height before the styling has been applied by the browser. Can I simply use the following statement: document.body.offsetLeft; or do I need to assign it to a variable, e.g.: var force_layout = document.body.offsetLeft; in order for browsers to calculate that value? I think this comes down to a more fundamental question - that is, without being part of an assignment statement, will JavaScript still evaluate a property's value? Does this depend on whether a particular browser's JavaScript engine optimizes the code?

  I have to open a website say Facebook page, twitter page and You Tube page in order to share my post there. Now when I click to the item Facebook , it gets redirected to FB to share and same for Twitter and YouTube. I have to show them in my WebView and all this is done perfectly. What I want is to show the Progress Dialog after clicking on the Item till it gets redirected to the FB , Twitter or YouTube. • Visualize compiler warnings

  I'm looking for a way to visualize compiler warnings and remarks, by annotating or otherwise showing which lines cause a report. This is much like a modern IDE like NetBeans or Eclipse already does, but I'd like to take output from several compilers (and other static code analysis tools) at once, and create one single annotation in order to get a better overview. The rationale is that we've seen some problems go completely undetected by, say, Visual Studio 2005, but accurately detected with a proprietary ARM compiler, and vice versa. Cross-referencing warnings could potentially locate problems better, but doing so completely manually is infeasible. Have you heard of such a tool? Could an open-source IDE like Eclipse be extended to use several compilers at once, or has it already been done?

• What to do of exceptions when implementing java.lang.Iterator

  The java.lang.Iterator interface has 3 methods: hasNext, next and remove. In order to implement a read-only iterator, you have to provide an implementation for 2 of those: hasNext and next. My problem is that these methods does not declare any exceptions. So if my code inside the iteration process declares exceptions, I must enclose my iteration code inside a try/catch block. My current policy has been to rethrow the exception enclosed in a RuntimeException. But this has issues because the checked exceptions are lost and the client code no longer can catch those exceptions explicitly. How can I work around this limitation in the Iterator class? Here is a sample code for clarity: class MyIterator implements Iterator { @Override public boolean hasNext() { try { return implementation.testForNext(); } catch ( SomethingBadException e ) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } } @Override public boolean next() { try { return implementation.getNext(); } catch ( SomethingBadException e ) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } } ... }

• Can't figure out how to list all the people that don't live in same City as...

  I’d like to list all the people ( Person table ) that don’t live in same city as those cities listed in Location table. Thus, if Location table holds a record with City=’New York’ and State=’Moon’, but Person table holds a record with FirstName=’Someone’, City=’New York’ and Location=’Mars’, then Someone is listed in the resulting set, since she lives in New York located on Mars and not New York located on Moon, thus we’re talking about different cities with the same name. I tried solving it with the following query, but results are wrong: SELECT Person.FirstName, Person.LastName, Person.City, Person.State FROM Person INNER JOIN Location ON (Person.City <> Location.City AND Person.State = Location.State) OR (Person.City = Location.City AND Person.State <> Location.State) OR (Person.City <> Location.City AND Person.State <> Location.State) ORDER BY Person.LastName; Any ideas?

  Hi I am looking into a number of ways to implement a labelling system similar to the one in Gmail. Basically I have a Resource at the lowest level and I would like to provide a number of organisational groupings for that resource in the form of labels. If anyone has implemented something like that I would like to hear your views. My idea is to have within the Resource instance a List<Label>. • Is it possible to build a JPA entity by extending a POJO?

  Lets say I have the following POJO: public class MyThing { private int myNumber; private String myData; //assume getter/setter methods } Is it now possible to extend this POJO as a JPA entity? @Entity @Table(name = "my_thing") public class MyThingEntity extends MyThing implements Serializable { @Column(name = "my_number") //????????? @Column(name = "my_data") //???????? } I want to keep the POJO separate from the JPA entity. The POJO lives in a different project and is often used without a persistence layer, my project wants to persist it in a database and do so without the overhead of mapping from a POJO to an entity and back. I understand that JPA entities are POJOs, but in order to use it I would have to include a library that implements javax.persistence and the other projects using the same base object have no use for a persistence layer. Is this possible? Is this a good idea?

• Struts2 dynamic form elements

  Hi, I would like to create little higer-level framework on top of Stuts2 which can take form element description from Action and render a complete form, in order to avoid having a separate JSP files with hardcoded form elements for every form in a large web application (so if I manage to do this I will have just a few generic JSPs for data form and few for layout). Application is extremely data-driven. My idea is to create form description using custom objects in the Action (i.e. Button, TextInput etc.) and then to create a single JSP page that will render eveything out. What is the best way of doing this? Can you propose some concrete way to do this? I don't want to write something if I can reuse the existing code with some effort. Any ideas are appreciated. • DataAdapter Select string from base table schema?

  When I built my .xsd, I had to choose the columns for each table, and it made a schema for the tables, right? So how can I get that Select string to use as a base Select command for new instances of dataadapters, and then just append a Where and OrderBy clause to it as needed? That would keep me from having to keep each DataAdapter's field list (for the same table) in synch with the schema of that table in the .xsd file. Isn't it common to have several DataAdapters that work on a certain table schema, but with different params in the Where and OrderBy clauses? Surely one does not have to maintain (or even redundently build) the field list part of the Select strings for half a dozen DataAdapters that all work off of the same table schema. I'm envisioning something like this pseudo code: BaseSelectString = MyTypedDataSet.JobsTable.GetSelectStringFromSchema() // Is there such a method or technique? • CSS button not styling

  Hey, I must be missing something obvious, but can someone explain what I'm doing wrong with my CSS? I would like all buttons to have a certain format, except a few. I was expecting to use CssClass in order to override the few that should be different, but they all seem to use the standard one. My CSS: .btn { border:none; background-color:red; } input[type="submit"] { border: 2px solid black; background-color:green; } All the buttons take the second value (green background, with a border). However, I have this button: <asp:Button ID="btnAdd" CssClass="btn" runat="server" Text="Add" /> I was expecting this to have no border, and a red background, but it's the same as every other button. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

• Splitting string on probable English word boundaries

  I recently used Adobe Acrobat Pro's OCR feature to process a Japanese kanji dictionary. The overall quality of the output is generally quite a bit better than I'd hoped, but word boundaries in the English portions of the text have often been lost. For example, here's one line from my file: softening;weakening(ofthemarket)8 CHANGE [transform] oneselfINTO,takethe form of; disguise oneself I could go around and insert the missing word boundaries everywhere, but this would be adding to what is already a substantial task. I'm hoping that there might exist software which can analyze text like this, where some of the words run together, and split the text on probable word boundaries. Is there such a package? I'm using Emacs, so it'd be extra-sweet if the package in question were already an Emacs package or could be readily integrated into Emacs, so that I could simply put my cursor on a line like the above and repeatedly invoke some command that splits the line on word boundaries in decreasing order of probable correctness.

  I'm trying to create a moderately complex query with joins: SELECT `history`.`id`, `parts`.`type_id`, `serialized_parts`.`serial`, `history_actions`.`action`, `history`.`date_added` FROM `history_actions`, `history` LEFT OUTER JOIN `parts` ON `parts`.`id` = `history`.`part_id` LEFT OUTER JOIN `serialized_parts` ON `serialized_parts`.`parts_id` = `history`.`part_id` WHERE `history_actions`.`id` = `history`.`action_id` AND `history`.`unit_id` = '1' ORDER BY `history`.`id` DESC I'd like to replace `parts`.`type_id` in the SELECT statement with `part_list`.`name` where the relationship I need to enforce between the two tables is `part_list`.`id` = `parts`.`type_id`. Also I have to use joins because in some cases `history`.`part_id` may be NULL which obviously isn't a valid part id. How would I modify the query to do this?

• Why are alloc and init called separately in Objective-C?

  Note: I'm relatively new to Objective-C and am coming from Java and PHP. Could someone explain to me why I always have to first allocate and then initialize an instance? Couldn't this be done in the init methods like this: + (MyClass*)init { MyClass *instance = [MyClass alloc]; [instance setFoo:@"bla"]; return instance; } + (MyClass*)initWithString:(NSString*)text { MyClass *instance = [MyClass init]; [instance setFoo:text]; return instance; } ... Is this just a relict from the old C days or is there something that I'm not seeing? I know this isn't a problem as I could as well always call alloc and init, but since it's a bit tedious I'd like to at least know why I'm doing it. I'm liking the expressiveness of the language so far, but this is something that I want to fully understand in order to think the Objective-C way. Thank you!

I have an array named 'names' with strings looking like this: ["name_23_something", "name_25_something", "name_2_something"]; Now I would like to sort this array in ascending order so it looks like this: ["name_25_something", "name_23_something", "name_2_something"]; I guess that should start of with extracting the numbers since I want that the sorting is done by them: for(NSString *name in arr) { NSArray *nameSegments = [name componentsSeparatedByString:@"_"]; NSLog("number: %@", (NSString*)[nameSegments objectAtIndex:1]); } I'm thinking of creating a dictionary with the keys but I'm not sure if that is the correct objective-c way, maybe there some some methods I could use instead? • Why does TabStop stop working??

  I have a project that uses a series of auto-generated user control instances. The user-control itself exists, but I populate a panel with a series of these user controls, one for each item in my collection. Each user control displays a ton of information, but only ONE text field is editable. All of the other fields have TabStop set to false, and are marked as ReadOnly. The tab order of each user control is set at the time it is created so that the tab-key goes from one field to the next (or ... it's supposed to). When I have TWO fields on my user control whose TabStop is set to true, everything works great. But if I only have ONE field whose TabStop is true, the tab key stops working, and I have to physically CLICK on the next user control for it to gain focus. What's up? Has anyone else seen this behavior? Am I doing something stupid as usual?

  In Microsoft TTS 5.1 or newer. The SpVoice.AudioOutputStream property says: The AudioOutputStream property gets and sets the current audio stream object used by the voice. Setting the voice's AudioOutputStream property may cause its audio output format to be automatically changed to match the text-to-speech (TTS) engine's preferred audio output format. If the voice's AllowAudioOutputFormatChangesOnNextSet property is True, the format change takes place; if False, the format remains unchanged. In order to set the AudioOutputStream property of a voice to a specific format, its AllowOutputFormatChangesOnNextSet should be False. It means a engine's always has a preferred audio output format. So, how can i get it.. i have not found any interface to get that attribute.

  I am creating an interpreter for my extension to HQ9+, which has the following extra command called V: V: Interpretes the code as Lua, Brainfuck, INTERCAL, Ruby, ShellScript, Perl, Python, PHP in that order, and if even one error has occoured, run the HQ9+-ABC code again most of them have libraries, BF and INTERCAL can be interpreted without a library, but the problem lies in ShellScript. How can I run a shellscript from my C++ application ( =the HQ9+-ABC interpreter) and when it's done, get the error code (0 = succeded, all others = failed)? So something like this: system(".tempshellscript738319939474"); if(errcode != 0) { (rerun code); } can anyone help me? Thanks
