  • Oracle Tutor: Document Audit and Maintenance

Documents must reflect current practice and they must be accurate. The most effective way to ensure this is through the regular audit of documents. In the Tutor environment, a Document Owner must audit each of his/her documents once every 6 to 12 months to verify that the document reflects actual practice. If it does not, the document is updated or employees are retrained (depending on the nature of the discrepancy). If a document update is required, the Tutor system enables the owner to modify and redistribute the document within one work day. This is possible because: Documents contain a minimum of detail, thereby reducing the edits. Document format and structure are simple, so changes are easy to identify The Tutor Author software tool enables the Document Owner or the Document Administrator to update the file quickly. The Document Administrator verifies the document format and integration, publishes the document, and distributes it to all affected employees, thereby freeing the Document Owner of the more tedious tasks. • Data Pump: Consistent Export?

    - by Mike Dietrich
Ouch ... I have to admit as I did say in several workshops in the past weeks that a data pump export with expdp is per se consistent. Well ... I thought it is ... but it's not. Thanks to a customer who is doing a large unicode migration at the moment. We were discussing parameters in the expdp's par file. And I did ask my colleagues after doing some research on MOS. And here are the results of my "research": MOS Note 377218.1 has a nice example showing a data pump export of a partitioned table with DELETEs on that table as inconsistent Background:Back in the old 9i days when Data Pump was designed flashback technology wasn't as popular and well known as today - and UNDO usage was the major concern as a consistent per default export would have heavily relied on UNDO. That's why - similar to good ol' exp - the export won't operate per default in consistency mode To get a consistent data pump export with expdp you'll have to set: FLASHBACK_TIME=SYSTIMESTAMPin your parameter file. Then it will be consistent according to the timestamp when the process has been started. You could use FLASHBACK_SCN instead and determine the SCN beforehand if you'd like to be exact. So sorry if I had proclaimed a feature which unfortunately is not there by default - Mike

  • Algorithm for dynamically calculating a level based on experience points?

    - by George
One of the struggles I've always had in game development is deciding how to implement experience points attributed to gaining a level. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to gaining a level in many of the games I've played, so I assume they have a static dictionary table which contains experience points vs. the level. e.g. Experience Level 0 1 100 2 175 3 280 4 800 5 ...There isn't a rhyme or reason why 280 points is equal to level 4, it just is. I'm not sure how those levels are decided, but it certainly wouldn't be dynamic. I've also thought about the possibility of exponential levels, as not to have to keep a separate lookup table, e.g. Experience Level 0 1 100 2 200 3 400 4 800 5 1600 6 3200 7 6400 8 ...but that seems like it would grow out of control rather quickly, as towards the upper levels, the enemies in the game would have to provide a whopping amount of experience to level -- and that would be to difficult to control. Leveling would become an impossible task. Does anyone have any pointers, or methods they use to decide how to level a character based on experience? I want to be fair in leveling and I want to stay ahead of the players as not to worry about constantly adding new experience/level lookups.

  • Will BIOS boot mode Ubuntu install be able to boot when firmware "Fast Boot" is "Ultra Fast"?

    - by Pro Backup
I have an AsRock mainboard with UEFI BIOS P1.50 02/14/2014. The firmware "Fast Boot" option is set to "Fast", Boot Option #1 is set to "AHCI P4: OCZ-VERT...": this is BIOS not UEFI boot. This boot disk has an MBR partitioning scheme (# parted -l | grep Partition\ Table:). Therefore Ubuntu 14.04 is installed in BIOS/CMS (Grub-PC) mode. The Ubuntu boot process ends in a text console (no GUI). There is no external graphics card in use. The stock Ubuntu kernel is replaced with Ubuntu supplied mainline 3.16.0-031600rc6-generic. dmesg outputs lines containing BIOS, like: SMBIOS 2.7 present Calgary: detecting Calgary via BIOS EBDA area Calgary: Unable to locate Rio Grande table in EBDA - bailing! [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored BIOS EDD facility v0.16 2004-Jun-25, 0 devices found The ASRock BIOS it selves display this help text for "Ultra Fast - Fast Boot": Ultra Fast mode is only supported by Windows 8 and the VBIOS must support UEFI GOP if you are using an external graphics card. Please notice that Ultra Fast mode will boot so fast that the only way to enter this UEFI Setup Utility is to Clear CMOS or run the Restart to UEFI utility in Windows. Assumptions: I suspect after changing UEFI setting "Fast Boot" to "Ultra Fast" that the machine will no longer boot into Ubuntu's console. I expect when first exchanging "Grub-pc" with "Grub-efi", that the machine will still be able to boot to a grub menu (thus allowing to change the "Fast Boot" setting back to "Fast" without clearing CMOS). Are these two "Fast Boot" assumptions correct, and/or, may I expect Ubuntu 14.04 running mainline kernel 3.16rc6 and Grub-efi to still boot to console after enabling UEFI Ultra Fast Boot?

  • Is it safer to use the same IV all times data are encrypted, or use a dynamic IV that is sent together the encrypted text? [closed]

    - by kiamlaluno
When encrypting data that is then send to a server, is it better to always use the same IV, which is already known from the receiving server, or use a dynamic IV that is then sent to the receiving server? I am referring to the case the remote server receives data from another server, or from a client application, and executes operations on a database table, in the table row identified by the received data. Which of the following PHP snippets is preferable? $iv = mcrypt_create_iv(mcrypt_enc_get_iv_size($td), MCRYPT_RAND); $ks = mcrypt_enc_get_key_size($td); $key = substr(md5('very secret key'), 0, $ks); mcrypt_generic_init($td, $key, $iv); $encrypted = mcrypt_generic($td, 'This is very important data'); send_encripted_data(combine_iv_encrypted_text($iv, $encrypted)); $ks = mcrypt_enc_get_key_size($td); $key = substr(md5('very secret key'), 0, $ks); mcrypt_generic_init($td, $key, $iv); send_encripted_data(mcrypt_generic($td, 'This is very important data')); In which way is one of the snippets more vulnerable than the other one?

  • Cut in excel doesn't work, and copying tables from one program to another returns text

    - by Kristina
My excel 2007 on Windows 7 operating system seems to have a probelm with regular cut function. when I highlight cells I want to cut and press cut (either on keyboard shortcut Ctrl+x, Home menu cut command, or from the right-click menu) cells start flashing for a split second and after that they only turn normal. When I want to paste them, they past as if copy function was used. If I try to rightclick to use function "insert cut cells" it is not one of the offered options at all. On my home computer I have same combination, Excel 2007 on windows 7 and it works just fine. COuld the problem be due to 64-bit win7 version at my job, and 32-bit version at home? Another problem is when I copy table from excel to word, in word pasting results in unformatted text instead of table as it was in excel. Did someone have such problems and can offer a solution? Thanx a lot.

  • Installed 4GB memory but Windows XP 32 bit only reporting 2GB?

    - by AnthonyWJones
I've just taken an existing XP Pro 32 bit system that had only 0.5GB of memory installed and maxed it out to 4GB. The BIOS reports the 4GB ram however when XP is booted and I look at the computer properties only 2GB of RAM is reported. Can anyone explain this? Before we go up any blind allys the /3GB switch is not the answer here, I have no need for a single process to use more the 2GB of memory. I'm wondering if the the 32 bit XP Pro is deliberately limited to 2GB. I seem to remember seeing an excellent table on a Microsoft site listing all the various SKUs of Windows and what each one was limited to. However I can't seem to find that table now.

  • mysqld crashes on any statement

I edited /etc/my.cnf making only these changes, then restarted mysqld with /etc/init.d/mysql restart All appeared to be well but when I connect to msyqld remotely or locally though it connects okay a slight problem is that mysqld crashes whenever you try to issue any kind of statement. While this appears confusing it works as designed. Instead of a full page re-rendering, ADF Faces events and components can trigger partial page refresh, in which only portions of a page are refresh upon a request. In addition, some components - including the af:popup and af:subForm - represent event roots. Event roots don't propagated event notification outside of the component tag boundary, which means that the ADF Faces lifecycle only executed on components that are children of the event root component. The PanelCollection component is an event root and therefore only validates and refreshes data of its child components.

Two KM articles reflect Oracles policy towards the use of VMware: 249212.1 and 475484.1 . The bottom line is: “you may use it at your own risk, but Oracle does not recommend it”. So far we have seen few problems with the use of VMware (other than performance and the usual limitations) but Oracle does not certify its software for the use in VMware (and specifically for RAC Software actively refuses any support) and any issue that may occur will be fixed for the native OS only. It is on the customer to prove that the issue is NOT due to VMware in case that an issue is encountered. The improvements that have been made to this area are substantial and will make it easier for customers to implement complex, heterogeneous GoldenGate configurations. GoldenGate has provided methods for conflict detection and resolution for a number of past releases, but at Oracle we have the opportunity to take advantage of some of the great ideas in this area. Oracle has had feature rich conflict detection and resolution framework in other products, which has been implemented in Oracle GoldenGate 11gR2. These improvements are geared toward helping customers more easily implement advanced configurations that require conflict detection and resolution by providing a robust framework for conflict detection for all DML statements and resolution via pre-built methods, all with less code and simpler syntax than in prior releases. Conflict Detection and Resolution in Oracle GoldenGate 11gR2 is available for our supported heterogeneous platforms, which includes Oracle Database, MySQL, Sybase ASE, SQL Server, and DB2 Linux, Unix, Windows, z/OS, plus DB2 on i Series, which is newly supported in this release. Additional information on the Conflict Detection and Resolution capabilities can be found in our documentation.

  • JSON Support in Azure

    - by kaleidoscope
Please find how we call JavaScript Object Notation in cloud applications. As we all know how client script is useful in web applications in terms of performance.           Same we can use JQuery in Asp.net using Cloud  computing which will  asynchronously pull any messages out of the table(cloud storage)  and display them in the     browser by invoking a method on a controller that returns JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) in a well-known shape. Syntax : Suppose we want to write a  JQuery function which return some notification while end user interact with our application so use following syntax : public JsonResult GetMessages() {      if (User.Identity.IsAuthenticated)      {     UserTextNotification[] userToasts =           toastRepository.GetNotifications(User.Identity.Name);          object[] data =          (from UserTextNotification toast in userToasts          select new { title = toast.Title ?? "Notification",          text = toast.MessageText }).ToArray();           return Json(data, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);      }         else            return Json(null); } Above function is used to check authentication and display message if user is not exists in Table. Plateform :   ASP.NET 3.5  MVC 1   Under Visual Studio 2008  . Please find below link for more detail : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ee335721.aspx   Chandraprakash, S

  • SUM of metric for normalized logical hierarchy

    - by Alex254
Suppose there's a following table Table1, describing parent-child relationship and metric: Parent | Child | Metric (of a child) ------------------------------------ name0 | name1 | a name0 | name2 | b name1 | name3 | c name2 | name4 | d name2 | name5 | e name3 | name6 | f Characteristics: 1) Child always has 1 and only 1 parent; 2) Parent can have multiple children (name2 has name4 and name5 as children); 3) Number of levels in this "hierarchy" and number of children for any given parent are arbitrary and do not depend on each other; I need SQL request that will return result set with each name and a sum of metric of all its descendants down to the bottom level plus itself, so for this example table the result would be (look carefully at name1): Name | Metric ------------------ name1 | a + c + f name2 | b + d + e name3 | c + f name4 | d name5 | e name6 | f (name0 is irrelevant and can be excluded). It should be ANSI or Teradata SQL. I got as far as a recursive query that can return a SUM (metric) of all descendants of a given name: WITH RECURSIVE temp_table (Child, metric) AS ( SELECT root.Child, root.metric FROM table1 root WHERE root.Child = 'name1' UNION ALL SELECT indirect.Child, indirect.metric FROM temp_table direct, table1 indirect WHERE direct.Child = indirect.Parent) SELECT SUM(metric) FROM temp_table; Is there a way to turn this query into a function that takes name as an argument and returns this sum, so it can be called like this? SELECT Sum_Of_Descendants (Child) FROM Table1; Any suggestions about how to approach this from a different angle would be appreciated as well, because even if the above way is implementable, it will be of poor performance - there would be a lot of iterations of reading metrics (value f would be read 3 times in this example). Ideally, the query should read a metric of each name only once.
