• How to detect if a certain range resides (partly) within an other range?

  Lets say I've got two squares and I know their positions, a red and blue square: redTopX; redTopY; redBotX; redBotY; blueTopX; blueTopY; blueBotX; blueBotY; Now, I want to check if square blue resides (partly) within (or around) square red. This can happen in a lot of situations, as you can see in this image I created to illustrate my situation better: Note that there's always only one blue and one red square, I just added multiple so I didn't have to redraw 18 times. My original logic was simple, I'd check all corners of square blue and see if any of them are inside square red: if ( ((redTopX >= blueTopX) && (redTopY >= blueTopY) && (redTopX <= blueBotX) && (redTopY <= blueBotY)) || //top left ((redBotX >= blueTopX) && (redTopY >= blueTopY) && (redBotX <= blueBotX) && (redTopY <= blueBotY)) || //top right ((redTopX >= blueTopX) && (redBotY >= blueTopY) && (redTopX <= blueBotX) && (redBotY <= blueBotY)) || //bottom left ((redBotX >= blueTopX) && (redBotY >= blueTopY) && (redBotX <= blueBotX) && (redBotY <= blueBotY)) //bottom right ) { //blue resides in red } Unfortunately, there are a couple of flaws in this logic. For example, what if red surrounds blue (like in situation 1)? • Django - Static content display based on URL

  I'm working on a Django site with a basic three column design. Left column navigation, center column content and right column URL specific content blocks. My question is about the best method of controlling the URL specific content blocks in the right column. I am thinking of something along the lines of the Flatpages app that will make the content available to the template context if the URL matches a pre-determined pattern (perhaps regex?). Does anyone know if such an app already exists? If not, I am looking for some advice about the best way to implement it. Particularly in relation to the matching of patterns to the current URL. Is there any good way to re-use parts of the Django URL dispatcher for this use?

• Backbone.js - Getting JSON back from url

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here, but I just can't seem to figure it out why I can't get the right data out. Could someone point me in the right direction or show me what I'm doing wrong here? Am I using a model for the wrong thing?

  Hey all. I know this question's been asked but I still don't have a clear picture of memory management in Objective-C. I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of it, but I'd still like some correct answers for the following code. I have a series of examples that I'd love for someone(s) to clarify. Setting a value for an instance variable. Say I have an NSMutableArray variable. In my class, when I initialize it, do I need to call a retain on it? Do I do fooArray = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] retain]; or fooArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; Does doing [[NSMutableArray alloc] init] already set the retain count to 1, so I wouldn't need to call retain on it? On the other hand, if I called a method that I know returns an autoreleased object, I would for sure have to call retain on it, right? Like so: fooString = [[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d items", someInt] retain]; Properties. I ask about the retain because I'm a bit confused about how @property's automatic setter works. If I had set fooArray to be a @property with retain set, Objective-C will automatically create the following setter, right? - (void)setFooArray:(NSMutableArray *)anArray { [fooArray release]; fooArray = [anArray retain]; } So, if I had code like this: self.fooArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; (which I believe is valid code), Objective-C creates a setter method that calls retain on the value assigned to fooArray. In this case, will the retain count actually be 2? Correct way of setting a value of a property. I know there are questions on this and (possibly) debates, but which is the right way to set a @property? This? self.fooArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; Or this? NSMutableArray *anArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; self.fooArray = anArray; [anArray release]; I'd love to get some clarification on these examples. Thanks!

• Leftover Nav Bar in Landscape View

  Hello, I am working to force a view into landscape mode, and have picked up all kinds of cool tips to make this happen, but am stuck on one item that is left on the screen. So to the question, how do I get rid of the bar? Edit: I am pretty sure this is the navigation bar that is not being hidden. I have a tooltip that shows the picture of the product when you hover the product name, for some reason it shows above the name, but under other elements, like lines and other product names. • Real RAM latency

  Hi, very quick question. When I look for RAM timing, I got 2 different explanations on what is CAS latency. First states, its the time after command to read has been issued from CPU and data are send to data bus. Second says its time betwen column in memory layout has been activated. So, where is the truth? I mean, when I want to know total RAM latenci, in case 1, ot would be just CAS times one clock time. In second case, it would be CAS+other things like RAstoCAS and so times one clock time. Thanks.

• python win32 simulate click

  Let's say I've got a window for which I want to simulate a mouse click at a specific x, y coordinate. I already have the hwnd but I'm not sure how to construct the lParam. I've used SendMessage in the past to click on buttons, etc., but I knew their hwnds. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also can't help but wonder if I'm going about this the right way. My end goal is clicking on a certain user on skype main window (for example). I used EnumChildWindows to find all the main window's children, but couldn't find the right one. So figured I would try to 'click' on it using coordinates.

Else you'll be scaling or rotating your translations. Do scale and rotate need to go in a specific order? • Suggestions for performance improvement surrounding sending email notifications?

  It takes around a couple of seconds for my app to execute the code to send an email right now on a test server with nothing much else running. Not sure if this is typical/expected. I'm also using the php framework Kohana's email helper and not php's mail directly out of convenience if that matters. Is it always just better to schedule a cron job to send emails every 5 min or so? Or should I be able to send emails immediately and I'm just not doing something right? What the script does is insert a row into the db and notifies the relevant group that the row was created. The groups are usually < 20 people so I just do a loop calling Kohana's email helper each time for each member of the group.

• Why does my DIV clip its child DIV when jQuery moves it in IE?

  I have two divs, both with position:absolute;, one inside the other. The parent isn't in a place where it can be set as position:relative without an extra layer of complexity (there are a lot of other elements around it that I'd have to account for to put it where it needs to be, which is at the very top of the page, over everything). The child element is made to stick off the bottom of the parent. In Chrome, Safari, Firefox, it all works splendidly. In IE, it works until jQuery moves the parent element - at which point the parent element clips the child, so you can barely see the top of the child. I feel like I've read about this, about IE clipping child elements, but I can't seem to find an answer that applies to my case. • Why are changes to classes ignored after dom changes?

  I have a price grid that uses relative positioning to move a field around, beneath a box with: overflow: hidden;. In this is field, there are absolute-positioned boxes containing prices. When this box is hovered, the matching values above and left of the will change color. In order to achieve this, a class is toggled using jQuery. This initially works. However, after the grid is moved, the class change doesn't affect the block above the grid anymore. In the Chrome console, i can see the class being added, but it's css-styling isn't applied. No other styles for the element have changed. I am 100% sure there is no other style-rule influencing the element, it just stops responding to the change in class after the DOM has been altered. Can i 'refresh' the DOM somehow? Then the CSS styles the thumbnails as small blocks with a defined height/width. A click-event for each object toggles it’s child’s element’s visibility and adds an “active” class name to the . Using CSS, I'm trying to place the absolutely to make it appear at the same position for each thumb, but it's moving in relation to the thumbs.   How could I adapt this query to show the previous 61 weeks? (still exlcluding the current week). My query currently shows me the total weekly sales for 2010 grouped by ISO Week and ISO Year (exlcuding the current week). select to_char(order_date,'IYYY') as iso_year, to_char(order_date,'IW') as iso_week, sum(sale_amount) from orders where to_char(order_date,'IW') <> to_char(SYSDATE) and to_char(order_date,'IYYY') = 2010 group by to_char(order_date,'IYYY') to_char(order_date,'IW') I realize I could probably just omit the "2010" requirement, order by desc and limit results to a certain bnumber of rows. But that just doesn't seem right! Much appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction!

• Playframework sends 2 queries for fetched query

  I currently have problems with the JPA at the play framework 1.2.4. I need to have a UserOptions model in a separate database and want to join it lazyly cause its only needed in one query. In this query I want to load the options eagerly and by searching I found out that can only be done by using a join query. If I use eager instead oder lazy, everything would be fine by using User.findById() and the options and the user is found in one query. But play sends two queries when I use a 'left join fetch' query. So heres the query: User.find(" SELECT user FROM User user LEFT JOIN FETCH user.options options WHERE user.id = ? ", Long.parseLong(id)).first(); And here the models: @Entity public class User extends Model { @OneToOne(mappedBy = "user", fetch = FetchType.LAZY) public UserOptions options; // ... } @Entity public class UserOptions extends Model { @OneToOne(fetch = FetchType.LAZY) public User user; } The question is why play sends two query for the fetch query? • HTML email image inverts on link click Outlook 07/10/13

  I'm having an issue on a HTML email in Word rendered Outlooks (2007, 2010, 2013) where I click an image link, and when the mouse is clicked, the image inverts... Here is the code below... <td align="left" width="360" valign="top" style="mso-table-lspace: 0pt; mso-table-rspace: 0pt; border-collapse: collapse;" class="hide"> <a href="#" target="_blank"> <img src="test.jpg" width="360" height="528" alt="alt tag" style="display:block;" class="img_mob centertable" border="0" align="left"> </a> </td> Here is a comparison on the image clicked/not clicked... I have tried putting a text-decoration: none on the link. All the links are styled inline as well. This is the only image that it is having this issue on the email, so tried re-saving the image with no luck. The image is saved as a JPEG and SRGB from a Photoshop PSD. Any ideas? Thanks.
