• GWT dev mode throws ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException when compile GinjectorImpl.java

When I randomly remove some modules from my GWT app it works again, so I'm guessing it is too large for ASM to compile. Any suggestions? • YUI DataTable - Howto have just one paginator?

  Hello, I'm using the YUI DataTable in a Grails 1.1 project using the Grails UI plugin 1.0.2 (YUI being 2.6.1). By default, the DataTable displays 2 paginators: one above and another one below the table. Looking up the YUI API documentation, I could see that I can pass an array of YUI containers as a config parameter but - what are the names of these containers? I've tried loooking at the HTML of the page using Firebug. The ID of the divs containing the paginators are: yui-dt0-paginator0 (above) and yui-dt0-paginator1 (below). If I use them to configure the containers for the navigator, then the navigator is just not displayed at all. • How does GMail implement Comet?

  With the help of HttpWatch, I tried to figure out how GMail implement Comet. I Login in GMail with two account, one in IE and the other in Firefox. Chatting in GTalk in GMail with some magic words like "WASSUP". Then, I logoff both GMail accounts, filter any http content without "WASSUP" string. The result shows which HTTP request is the streaming channel. (Note: I have to logoff. Otherwise, never-ending HTTP would not show content in HttpWatch.) The result is interesting. The URL for stream channel is like: https://mail/channel/bind?VER=8&at=xn3j33vcvk39lkfq..... There is no surprise that GMail do Comet in IE with IFRAME. The Http content starts with " Originally, I guessed that GMail do Comet in Firefox with multipart XmlHttpRequest. To my surprise, the response header doesn't have "multipart/x-mixed-replace" header. The response headers are as below: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, max-age=0, must-revalidate Pragma: no-cache Expires: Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2010 01:52:39 GMT X-Frame-Options: ALLOWALL Transfer-Encoding: chunked X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff Server: GSE X-XSS-Protection: 0 Unfortunately, the HttpWatch doesn't tell whether a HTTP request is from XmlHttpRequest or not. The content is not HTML but JSON. It looks like a response for XHR, but that would not work for Comet without multipart/x-mixed-replace, right? Is there any way else to figure out how GMail implement Comet? Thanks.

• PHP CURL Google Calendar using Private URL

  I'm trying to get an array of events from Google Calendar using the Private URL. I read the Google API document but I want to try doing this without using the ZEND library since I have no idea what the eventual server file structure is and avoid having other people edit the codes. I also did a search before posting and ran into the same condition where PHP CURL_EXEC returns false with the URL but I get a JSON file if the URL is open using a web browser. Since I'm using the Private URL, do I really need to authenticate against the Google server using ZEND? • Web.Routing for the site root or homepage

  I am doing some work with Web.Routing, using it to have friendly urls and nice Rest like interfaces to a site that is essentially rendered by a single IHttpHandler. There are no webforms, the handler generates all the html/json and writes it as part of process request. This works well for things like /Sites/Accounting for example, but I can't get it to work for the site root, i.e. '/'. I have tried registering a route with an empty string, with 'default.aspx' (which is the empty aspx file I keep in my root folder to play nice with cassini and iis). I set RouteExistingFiles to false explicitly, but whatever I do when hitting the root url it still opens default.axpx, which has no code it inherits from, and contains a simple h1 tag to show that I've hit it. I don't want to change the default file to redirect to a desired route, I just want the equivalent of a 'default' route that is applied when no other routes are found, similar to MVC. For reference, the previous version of the site didn't use Web.Routing, but had a handler referenced in the web.config that was perfectly capable of intercepting requests for the root or default.aspx. Specs: ASP.NET 3.5sp1, C#, no webforms, MVC or openrasta. Plain old IHttpHandlers.

• Modified jQuery innerfade sluggish

  HI. I am using the jQuery innerfade plugin to scroll through some images on my site. Innerfade is sluggish to move on Firefox 3.6.3, and IE 8. IE 8 is much worse than Firefox, and Chrome runs smoothly. Can you analyze my code to see what the problem is? • Printing from web pages (reports especially) with greater precision.

  Hello. I am re-engineering a windows application to be ported to web. One area that has been worrying is 'printing'. The application is data intensive and complex reports need to be generated. The erstwhile windows application takes advantage of printer APIs and extends sophisticated control to the users. It supports functions like page break, avoiding printing on printed parts of the sheet (like letterhead), choice of layouts and orientation, etc. Please note that these setting are not done only while printing, they are part of report definition sometimes. From what I know, we cannot have this kind of control while printing web pages. I am in a process of identifying options at my disposal. While I prefer to first look into something that will help me print from raw web pages, following are other thoughts: Since reports can also be exported to .xls & .pdf versions, let user download one and print directly. This however limits my solution to the area of application that have export feature. Use Silverlight (4.0) for report layout definition and print. I think Silverlight 4.0 (in beta right now) provides adequate control over the printer. I have so far been avoiding the need of any RIA plugin. Meticulously generate reports on web with fixed dimensions. I am not sure how far this will go. Please share practices that can be applied easily in my scenario.

• 'memcache-client' problem - app can't load the gem

  Hi all - i'm trying to get memcached and the Interlock plugin working with a new rails app. The weird thing is that they both work fine in another app on the same machine and i can't figure out the difference that's stopping this app. The new app is rails 2.3.4 and the old one is 2.2.2 in case that's a factor. When the app starts, i get a warning from interlock: `install_memcached':Interlock::ConfigurationError: 'memcache-client' client requested but not installed. Try 'sudo gem install memcache-client'. Now, i have memcache-client installed: $> gem list | grep memcache memcache-client (1.7.8) The gem is in /var/lib/gems/1.8, which is in my GEM_PATH variable. On a bit of further investigation, the above error is raised by interlock when it refers to the MemCache class, which doesn't exist and so raises an 'anonymous module' error. So, ultimately, the problem is that MemCache isn't loaded. I have a memcached.yml in my config folder (below) however. • Jeditable with jQuery UI Datepicker

  I need to have a click to edit element on a page, that will in turn invoke an instance of the jQuery UI Datepicker. Currently, I'm using JEditable to provide the in place editing, which is working fine. However, I have a date control input that I would like to have appear as a calendar, which is where the fun starts. I've found a Comment in the this blog by Calle Kabo (the page is a little mashed unfortunately) that details a way to do this: $.editable.addInputType("datepicker", { element: function(settings, original) { var input = $("<input type=\"text\" name=\"value\" />"); $(this).append(input); return(input); }, plugin: function(settings, original) { var form = this; $("input", this).filter(":text").datepicker({ onSelect: function(dateText) { $(this).hide(); $(form).trigger("submit"); } }); } }); However, I can't get the above to work - no errors, but no effect either. I've tried placing it within the jQuery document ready function and also outside of it - no joy. My UI Datepicker class is date-picker and my Jeditable class is ajaxedit, I'm sure the above inaction is due to the need to reference them somehow in the code, but I don't know how. Also, the Jeditable control is one of many element ids, if that has a bearing. Any ideas from those more in the know?

  I'm using the Refinery content management system with a the Portfolio plugin see http://github.com/resolve/refinerycms I wanted to create a title and description for images uploaded to Refinery using Refinerycms-Portfolio so far I have done the following; added the columns to the images table $script/generate migration AddTitleToImages title:string $script/generate migration AddBodyToImages body:text $rake db:migrate modified the field div in this file, * highlighted vendor/plugins/images/app/views/admin/images/_form.html.erb Use current image or, replace it with this one... ***** ***** ***** ***** "wymeditor", :rows = 7 % Added these lines to the main image partial in vendor/plugins/refinerycms-portolio/app/views/portfolio/ _main_image.html.erb <%= @image.body % This works in the back-end except for a few visual bugs. The problem with this is when i click through the thumbnails in the front-end the titles and descriptions keep stacking on top of the previous titles and descriptions. The main image changes fine, but instead of refreshing the title and description, it adds the new one above the previous titles and descriptions. How can i stop this repetition so that only one title and description will show at a time? I'm new to Rails and I am using Rails-2.3.5 and I suspect this can be solved using Java Script thanks in advance, John

• TinyMCE Image Alignment

  TinyMCE has always been a little difficult to align images. Either the align tag, or adding style="float: left;" has been it solution. Ideally I would just like to add class="left" or class="right" so that I can set the border and margins of the image. Up until now the only way to do this without using the advimage plugin was to insert the image, then select it, the select a style from the style menu. Ideally I should be able to use the align control in the image dialogue to set the alignment class or use the alignment controls on the toolbar when in the main editing window. I have just again started looking at a solution to this, now that IE6 is finally starting to die, I can use CSS attributes in selectors, so IMG[style="float: left;"] {} Works, but I would rather use a class incase there are any other style attributes which will cause the selector to fail. And it doesn't work in IE6, and you know some corporate clients will still be running the bloody thing! So I looked through the TinyMCE documentation and found the formats configuration option, that seems to allow you to specify how tinyMCE applies code for various operations. Here I can add the IMG tag as a selector, and have classes: "left" for the alignleft function. This applies the class correctly when the alignment is selected from the toolbar, but it still writes an inline style when the alignment is selected through the image dialogue. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way of doing this that will allow my clients to select image alignment from both the image dialogue and the toolbar, whilst applying a class to the image?

• I set up better-edit-in-place but still cannot edit in place in Rails

• Caching a column in a polymorphic relationship

  I have content management system application that uses a polymorphic tree table as the core of its arrangement. I've come into a problem where once the tree grows quite large, and because we have quite a few different modules (about 25), just doing :include = :instance doesn't cut the mustard. Instance is the name of our polymorphic relationship. The funny part is that in most cases when I want a large list of these items, all I really want is their name from the associated table (for the purposes of an index bar for example), all the rest is in the central table. So I thought that I should probably implement some sort of column cache for the name in the central table. (Like a counter cache that rails already does). I was just wondering if a plugin exists to manage this already? If not, I was just going to add a 'name' column to the central table and because all the polymorphic models inherit off a superclass, just add a callback that pushes the name across to the central table whenever the item is created or updated. I'd then just do a big migration to populate it in the first place? Any flaws to that design? I suppose to be more flexible the column could be some kind of serialised cache where I could store other things later on if need be? Gah! :D

• Variant datatype library for C

  Is there a decent open-source C library for storing and manipulating dynamically-typed variables (a.k.a. variants)? I'm primarily interested in atomic values (int8, int16, int32, uint, strings, blobs, etc.), while JSON-style arrays and objects as well as custom objects would also be nice. A major case where such a library would be useful is in working with SQL databases. The most obvious feature of such a library would be a single type for all supported values, e.g.: struct Variant { enum Type type; union { int8_t int8_; int16_t int16_; // ... }; }; Other features might include converting Variant objects to/from C structures (using a binding table), converting values to/from strings, and integration with an existing database library such as SQLite. Note: I do not believe this is question is a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/649649/any-library-for-generic-datatypes-in-c , which refers to "queues, trees, maps, lists". What I'm talking about focuses more on making working with SQL databases roughly as smooth as working with them in interpreted languages.

• Authentication problem with Wufoo

  I set up a Wufoo form with admin only portions that will only show up if I am logged in. I read through the Wufoo API documentation and I can get the authenication to work, but when I try to access the form after I authenticate, it says I need to authenticate. • Rendering LaTeX on third-party websites

  There are some sites on the web that render LaTeX into some more readable form, such as Wikipedia, some Wordpress blogs, and MathOverflow. They may use images, MathML, jsMath, or something like that. There are other sites on the web where LaTeX appears inline and is not rendered, such as the arXiv, various math forums, or my email. In fact, it is quite common to see an arXiv paper's abstract with raw LaTeX in it, e.g. this paper. Is there a plugin available for Firefox, or would it be possible to write one, that renders LaTeX within pages that do not provide a rendering mechanism themselves? Some notes: It may be impossible to render some of the code, because authors often copy-paste code directly from their source TeX files, which may contain things like "\cite{foo}" or undefined commands. These should be left alone. This question is a repost of a question from MathOverflow that was closed for not being related to math. I program a lot, but Javascript is not my specialty, so comments along the lines of "look at this library" are not particularly helpful to me (but may be to others).

  I'm currently reviewing the benefits of moving from SVN to a SourceGear Vault. Has anyone got advice or a link to a detailed comparison between the two? Bear in mind I would have to move my current Source Control system across which works strongly in SVN's favor Here is some info I have found out thus far from my own investigations. I have been taking some time tests between the two and vault seems to perform most operations much faster. Time tests used the same server as the repository, the same workstation client, and the same project. This is the kind of information i'm looking for. Usage Comparisons Subversion is edit/merge/commit only. Vault allows you to do either edit/merge/commit or checkout/edit/checkin. Vault looks and acts just like VSS, which makes the learning curve effectively zero for VSS users. Vault has a VS plugin, but it only works if you're going to run in checkout-mode. Subversion has clients for pretty much every OS you can imagine; Vault has a GUI client for Windows and a command line client for Mono. Both will support remote work, since both use HTTP as their transport (Subversion uses extended DAV, Vault uses SOAP). Subversion installation, especially w/ Apache, is more complex. Subversion has a lot of third party support. Vault has just a few things. My question Has anyone got advice or a link to a detailed comparison between the two?

• How to serialize a Bundle?

  I'd like to serialize a Bundle object, but can't seem to find a simple way of doing it. Using Parcel doesn't seem like an option, since I want to store the serialized data to file. Any ideas on ways to do this? The reason I want this is to save and restore the state of my activity, also when it's killed by the user. I already create a Bundle with the state I want to save in onSaveInstanceState. But android only keeps this Bundle when the activity is killed by the SYSTEM. When the user kills the activity, I need to store it myself. Hence i'd like to serialize and store it to file. Of course, if you have any other way of accomplishing the same thing, i'd be thankful for that too. Edit: I decided to encode my state as a JSONObject instead of a Bundle. The JSON object can then be put in a Bundle as a Serializable, or stored to file. Probably not the most efficient way, but it's simple, and it seems to work ok.

  Hello, I have jquery tabs like <ul id="tabsList"> <li><a href="#tab-1">Name 1</a></li> <li><a href="#tab-2">Name 2</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.google.com/">Name 3</a></li> </ul> <div id="tab-1">content 1</div> <div id="tab-2">content 2</div> the first two tabs load the respective divs. But the third one should go to google.com, instead it does nothing. It just adds http://example.com/index.html#ui-tabs-[object Object] to the url. I am developing a wordpress plugin and the admin page needs a tab interface. I tested this in a local server and not working update: i don't want to load google.com inside the page. It should open the webpage in new tab/window like ordinary links do.

• Why can I run JUnit tests for my Spring project, but not a main method?

  I am using JDBC to connect to MySQL for a small application. In order to test without altering the real database, I'm using HSQL in memory for JUnit tests. I'm using Spring for DI and DAOs. Here is how I'm configuring my HSQL DataSource <bean id="mockDataSource" class="org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.SingleConnectionDataSource"> <property name="driverClassName" value="org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver"/> <property name="url" value="jdbc:hsqldb:mem:mockSeo"/> <property name="username" value="sa"/> </bean> This works fine for my JUnit tests which use the mock DB. But when I try to run a main method, I find the following error: Error creating bean with name 'mockDataSource' defined in class path resource [beans.xml]: Error setting property values; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.PropertyBatchUpdateException; nested PropertyAccessExceptions (1) are: PropertyAccessException 1: org.springframework.beans.MethodInvocationException: Property 'driverClassName' threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not load JDBC driver class [org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver] I'm running from Eclipse, and I'm using the Maven plugin. Is there a reason why this would work as a Test, but not as a main()? I know that the main method itself is not the problem, because it works if I remove all references to the HSQL DataSource from my Spring Configuration file.

• PHP/SQL/Wordpress: Group a user list by alphabet

  I want to create a (fairly big) Wordpress user index with the users categorized alphabetically, like this: A Amy Adam B Bernard Bianca and so on. I've created a custom Wordpress query which works fine for this, except for one problem: It also displays "empty" letters, letters where there aren't any users whose name begins with that letter. I'd be glad if you could help me fix this code so that it only displays the letter if there's actually a user with a name of that letter :) I've tried my luck by checking how many results there are for that letter, but somehow that's not working. Public Function ShouldThrowException() As Boolean Implements IRestService.ShouldThrowException Throw New WebFaultException(Of String)("This should fail", HttpStatusCode.BadRequest) End Function My web.config reads as: <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="WebEndpointBehavior"> <webHttp /> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> .. snip .. <webHttpBinding> <binding name="WebBinding" crossDomainScriptAccessEnabled="true"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </webHttpBinding> .. snip .. <service name="RestService"> <endpoint address="" binding="webHttpBinding" behaviorConfiguration="WebEndpointBehavior" bindingConfiguration="WebBinding" contract="IRestService" name="RestService"> </endpoint> </service> When I call ShouldThrowException via my browser, I only get the following: "This should fail" I was expecting to get a 400 Bad Request error on the page. If I inspect the page using FireBug, I see that the HTTP status code that was returned is a 200 OK. According to this blog post, I should be seeing this exception. Except I'm not. What am I doing wrong here?

• jquery ui-tabs widget , changing the color of the background with css causes problem with display

  I'm using the jquery tabs plugin and want to have the background a light grey color. In the css section for tabs, I found this line of code where I manually added the background-color part: .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-panel { padding: 1em 1em; display: block; border-width: 0; background-color:#EEEEEE;} The problem comes as seen in the picture below, where the grey background is only extending down part of the way. I initially thought I could update the div container with the same background color, but it didn't work. It looks like that white portion below might be some kind of padding, so I looked for that in the css but everything I tried had the same effect. Anyone got some ideas?
