• MSBuild (.NET 4.0) access problems

  I'm using Cruise Control .NET as my build server (Windows 2008 Server). Yesterday I upgraded my ASP.NET MVC project from VS 2008/.NET 3.5 to VS 2010/.NET 4.0. The only change I made to my ccnet.config's MSBuild task was the location of MSBuild.exe. Ever since I made that change, the build has been broken with the error: MSB4019 - The imported project "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. This file does, in fact, exist in the location specified (I solved a problem similar to this when setting up the build server for VS2008/.NET 3.5 by copying the files from my dev environment to my build environment). So I RDP'ed into the build machine and opened a command prompt, used MSBUILD to attempt to build my project. MSBUILD returns the error: MSB3021 - Unable to copy file "obj\debug....dll". Access to the path 'bin....dll' is denied. Since I'm running MSBUILD from the command prompt, logged in with an account that has administrative privileges, I'm assuming that MSBUILD is running with the same privileges that I have. Next, I tried to copy the file that MSBUILD was attempting to copy. In this case, I get the UAC dialog that makes me click the [Continue] button to complete the copy. I'd like to avoid installing Visual Studio 2010 on my build machine, can anyone suggest other fixes I might try?

  I was looking into google.com's Net activity in firebug just because I was curious and noticed a request was returning "204 No Content." It turns out that a 204 No Content "is primarily intended to allow input for actions to take place without causing a change to the user agent's active document view, although any new or updated metainformation SHOULD be applied to the document currently in the user agent's active view." Whatever. I've looked into the JS source code and saw that "generate_204" is requested like this: (new Image).src="http://clients1.google.com/generate_204" No variable declaration/assignment at all. My first idea is that it was being used to track if Javascript is enabled. But the "(new Image).src='...'" call is called from a dynamically loaded external JS file anyway, so that would be pointless. Anyone have any ideas as to what the point could be? UPDATE "/generate_204" appears to be available on many google services/servers (e.g., maps.google.com/generate_204, maps.gstatic.com/generate_204, etc...). You can take advantage of this by pre-fetching the generate_204 pages for each google-owned service your web app may use. • Building a VS2010 solution from TFS2008

  I have a TFS 2008 Build Agent that has been used to build .Net 3.5 applications. I now have a .Net 4.0 app which i want to compile on the same build agent. I have ensured that MSBuild 4.0 is installed on there and all the required componentry is also installed, but i am getting the following MSB4062 error when building: [Any CPU/Release] C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets(244,5): error MSB4062: The "Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.GetSilverlightItemsFromProperty" task could not be loaded from the assembly C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.dll. Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. Confirm that the declaration is correct, and that the assembly and all its dependencies are available. I am presuming that i get this because the TFSBuild.proj gets executed by MSBuild 3.5 which in turn means my solution is compiled with MSBuild 3.5. Am i correct with my diagnosis? Is there any way to ensure that TFS2008 uses MSBuild 4.0 for my solution? Can it be done on a single team project so that it doesn't affect any other team projects being built on the same build agent? • Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020009 (DISP_E_EXCEPTION)) in SharePoint

  Hi all: After googling for many hours for a solution for the above Sharepoint exception, I have come to SO for help on this one... I believe the cause of me getting the above exception is because of the following code: try { using (SPSite site = new SPSite(siteId, spUserToken)) { using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(webId)) { createNewSite(web); } } } createNewSite(web) changes the name and URL of "web" using AllowUnsafeUpdates, so when it comes out of the method it has been changed. My few months worth of Sharepoint developing experience suggest that that is the cause of the exception. "web" is no longer used anymore so I can comfortably null it myself. The problem here is... it didnt work: try { using (SPSite site = new SPSite(siteId, spUserToken)) { SPWeb web = null; using (web = site.OpenWeb(webId)) { createNewSite(web); if (web != null) { web = null; } } } } I believe that the original developer used the using declaration to avoid SPWeb objects from leaking. Asides that I think it is okay for me to break this pattern solely for the purpose of getting rid of that dreaded exception. So the question: what can I do to the above code to potentially fix this exception? Thanks.

• Installing into the GAC with WiX 3.0

  I have a DLL that I would like to install into the Global Assembly Cache so that it can be referenced from multiple locations. I have a File declaration with the Assembly attribute set to ".net" but when the installation tries to install the DLL into the GAC, I get the following error (I have tided it up a bit to make it more readable): MSI (s) (58:38) [19:14:31:031]: Product: MyProductName 1.01 -- Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly  'Compass,   version="1.0.0.0",   culture="neutral",   publicKeyToken="392B26B760D48103",   processorArchitecture="MSIL"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80131043. assembly interface:       IAssemblyCacheItem, function:             Commit, component: {53AEE63B-F356-4D4F-8D61-EB0640A6E160} I have hunted around to find out what this means and the error relates to FUSION_E_UNEXPECTED_MODULE_FOUND. • Android "single top" launch mode and onNewIntent method

  I read in the Android documentation that by setting my Activity's launchMode property to singleTop OR by adding the FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP flag to my Intent, that calling startActivity(intent) would reuse a single Activity instance and give me the Intent in the onNewIntent callback. I did both of these things, and onNewIntent never fires and onCreate fires every time. The docs also say that this.getIntent() returns the intent that was first passed to the Activity when it was first created. In onCreate I'm calling getIntent and I'm getting a new one every time (I'm creating the intent object in another activity and adding an extra to it...this extra should be the same every time if it was returning me the same intent object). All this leads me to believe that my activity is not acting like a "single top", and I don't understand why. To add some background in case I'm simply missing a required step, here's my Activity declaration in the manifest and the code I'm using to launch the activity.   I'm getting the following error in my MVC2 app using Linq to SQL (I am new to both). I am connected to an actual SQL server not weird mdf: System.InvalidOperationException The null value cannot be assigned to a member with type System.Int64 which is a non-nullable value type My SQL table has a column called MessageID. It is BigInt type and has a primary key, NOT NULL and an IDENTITY 1 1, no Default In my dbml designer it has the following declaration for this field: [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ColumnAttribute(Storage="_MessageId", AutoSync=AutoSync.OnInsert, DbType="BigInt NOT NULL IDENTITY", IsPrimaryKey=true, IsDbGenerated=true)] public long MessageId { get { return this._MessageId; } set { if ((this._MessageId != value)) { this.OnMessageIdChanging(value); this.SendPropertyChanging(); this._MessageId = value; this.SendPropertyChanged("MessageId"); this.OnMessageIdChanged(); } } } It keeps telling me that null cannot be assigned - I'm not passing through null! • How to make Delphi Prism indexed properties visible to C# when properties are not default

  I have several Delphi Prism classes with indexed properties that I use a lot on my C# web applications (we are migrating a big Delphi Win32 system to ASP.Net). My problem is that it seems that C# can't see the indexed properties if they aren't the default properties of their classes. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'm completely lost. I know that this question looks a lot like a bug report, but I need to know if someone else knows how to solve this before I report a bug. If I have a class like this: TMyClass = public class private ... method get_IndexedBool(index: Integer): boolean; method set_IndexedBool(index: Integer; value: boolean); public property IndexedBool[index: Integer]: boolean read get_IndexedBool write set_IndexedBool; default; // make IndexedBool the default property end; I can use this class in C# like this: var myObj = new TMyClass(); myObj[0] = true; However, if TMyClass is defined like this: TMyClass = public class private ... method get_IndexedBool(index: Integer): boolean; method set_IndexedBool(index: Integer; value: boolean); public property IndexedBool[index: Integer]: boolean read get_IndexedBool write set_IndexedBool; // IndexedBool is not the default property anymore end; Then the IndexedBool property becomes invisible in C#. The only way I can use it is doing this: var myObj = new TMyClass(); myObj.set_IndexedBool(0, true); I don't know if I'm missing something, but I can't see the IndexedBool property if I remove the default in the property declaration. Besides that, I'm pretty sure that it is wrong to have direct access to a private method of a class instance. Any ideas?

I debugged it and allUsers = Nothing. What's wrong the declaration above? Do I really have to provider the paramenters when calling Membership.Providers("CustomSqlRoleManager").GetAllUsers? Update 1 If, I used the statement below: Dim allUsers As MembershipUserCollection = Membership.Providers("MembershipRoleManager").GetAllUsers(0, 0, totalUser) I got this error message: The pageSize must be greater than zero. Parameter name: pageSize. [ArgumentException: The pageSize must be greater than zero. • Java: How to have an ArrayList as instance variable of an object?

  All, I'm working on a class project to build a little Connect4 game in Java. My current thinking is to have a class of Columns that have as instance variable a few integers (index, max. length, isFull?) and one ArrayList to receive both the integers above and the plays of each players (e.g., 1's and 0's standing for X's and O's). This is probably going to be split between 2 classes but the question remains the same. My current attempt looks like this: import java.util.ArrayList; public class Conn4Col { public int hMax; public int index; public final int initialSize = 0; public final int fullCol = 0; public ArrayList<Integer>; (...)} Unfortunately, this doesn't compile. The compiler says an is missing where my ArrayList declaration stands. We're just starting objects and we haven't really looked into other instance variables than the basic types.   Hey All, I want something like this: http://cybernetnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/windows-7-wireless.jpg This window is not resizable, and aligns itself above the system tray icon which it is related to. I have this: http://i.imgur.com/79FZi.png Which is resizeable, and it goes wherever it feels like. If you click the volume control in Win 7, it always pops up directly above the icon. This is ideal. I've found this reference which I think is trying to solve the same problem (can't tell though as the images are dead), http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2169006/create-a-system-tray-styled-box-in-winforms-c but I'm using WPF and I'm not sure how to get these Form objects they refer to from my Window object. This is the XAML declaration of my window atm, <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" x:Class="WirelessControl.Window1" x:Name="Window" Title="Window1" Width="260" Height="370" mc:Ignorable="d" WindowStyle="None"></Window> I feel like based on how common this is in Windows that there must be a fairly easy way to do this. ResizeMode="NoResize" causes my window border to disappear, so that's no help. Thanks guys, I hope I was comprehensive enough.

  I get this error when compiling a C# application. Looks like a trivial error, but I can't get around it. My setup is Windows 7 64 bit. Visual-Studio 2010 C# express B2Rel. I added a reference to System.Web.dll located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.0, but it has a yellow exclamation symbol and I still get the above error. I also have the using System.Web declaration. What am I doing wrong? Update: After getting the prompt answer pointing me at the root cause, I searched a bit in Google to where it states that System.Web.dll is for the full framework. I did not find such a reference. For newbies like me, this blog summarizes the difference between the frameworks (client and full) nicely. I could not find a spot that says whether a certain Dll is supported in the client framework or not. I guess the exclamation mark in Visual Studio should be the first signal...

• NSCollectionView subclass doesn't call drawRect during drag session despite setNeedsDisplay

  Greetings, I am puzzled as to how and when drawRect is supposed to be called in a NSCollectionView subclass. I implement drag and drop operation in order to move NSCollectionViewItems within the collection, and would like to draw a visual indication of where the drop would end. The subclass does not call drawRect during the drag session. (It does during scroll) Is this the intended operation ? Any hint on how to implement this behavior properly are welcome.   I'm trying to derive a new class from an old one. To avoid multiple inheritance ambiguity problems (so I thought), I used virtual inheritance: class NewDriver : public Driver, public virtual Plugin, public virtual CmdObject But then, in the implementation of a virtual method in NewDriver, I tried to call the Mgr::RegisterPlugin method that takes a Plugin*, and I got this: ".\NewDriver.cpp", line 89: cc0286: error: base class "Plugin" is ambiguous if (!m_pMgr->RegisterPlugin(this)) How is the this pointer ambiguous, and how do I resolve it?   Right, I've usually used 'using' directives as follows using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace AwesomeLib { //awesome award winning class declarations making use of Linq } i've recently seen examples of such as using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace AwesomeLib { //awesome award winning class declarations making use of Linq namespace DataLibrary { using System.Data; //Data access layers and whatnot } } Granted, i understand that i can put USING inside of my namespace declaration. Such a thing makes sense to me if your namespaces are in the same root (they organized). System; namespace 1 {} namespace 2 { System.data; } But what of nested namespaces? Personally, I would leave all USING declarations at the top where you can find them easily. Instead, it looks like they're being spread all over the source file. Is there benefit to the USING directives being used this way in nested namespaces? Such as memory management or the JIT compiler?

• Building Web Application project using MSBuild from command line on 64-bit: missing targets file

  Building a solution containing a web application project using MSBuild from powershell like this: msbuild "/p:OutDir=$build_dir\" $solution_file Works fine for me on 32-bit, but on a 64-bit machine I am running into this error: error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and powershell v2. The problem has already been documented here and here. Basically on 64-bit install of VS, the Microsoft.WebApplication.targets needed by MSBuild is in the Program Files(x86) dir, not the Program Files dir, but MSBuild doesn't recognise this and so looks in the wrong place. The two solutions are not ideal: Manually copy the file on 64-bit from Program Files(x86) to Program Files. This is a poor solution - every dev will have to do this manually. Manually edit the csproj file so MSBuild looks in the right place. Again not ideal: I would rather not have to get everyone on 64bit to manually edit csproj files on every new project. e.g. <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)" Condition="Exists('$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)')" /> Ideally I want a way to tell MSBuild to import the target file form the right place from the command line but I can't work out how to do that. Any solutions?

When I run every Maven commad there is dependency looking for commons-collection in this Jasper repository so I need to wait for timeout. This is my base project and is used as dependency in my others projects so again I need to wait for timeout. Is there are a way to move this repository to blacklisted or override this settings? Notes: 1.Why it search in Jasper repository, maybe bacause of ranges <dependency> <groupId>commons-collections</groupId> <artifactId>commons-collections</artifactId> <version>[2.1,)</version> <scope>compile</scope> </dependency> 2.My idea to resolve this problem is to change jasper pom and use proxy repository, but I looking to another option. 3.I use jasperreports 1.3.3 version and I'd like don't change it.

  How can I use two cursors in the same routine? If I remove the second cursor declaration and fetch loop everthing works fine. The routine is used for adding a friend in my webapp. It takes the id of the current user and the email of the friend we want to add as a friend, then it checks if the email has a corresponding user id and if no friend relation exists it will create one. Any other routine solution than this one would be great as well. • What is the scope of StaticResource within a WPF ResourceDictionary?

  I have a WPF ResourceDictionary with the following TextBlock: <TextBlock Visibility="{Binding Converter={StaticResource MyBoolProp ResourceKey=BoolToVis}}"> </TextBlock> The ResourceDictionary is included in App.xaml under MergedDictionaries: <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="MyResourceDictionary.xaml"/> Within the App.xaml I have defined the BoolToVis converter (again, under Application.Resources) <BooleanToVisibilityConverter x:Key="BoolToVis" /> When I start my app up - I get the following XamlParseException: "Provide value on 'System.Windows.Markup.StaticResourceHolder' threw an exception." The InnerException is: "Cannot find resource named 'BoolToVis'. Resource names are case sensitive." I'm able to refer to this converter directly with App.xaml (in fact, the particular XAML declaration is identical) and within other UserControls with no problems. This particular bit of code also worked fine under the .NET 4.0 RC (and Beta2). This error only started happening when I upgraded to the .NET 4.0 RTM. I'm able to work around it by declaring another BooleanToVisibilityConverter within MyResourceDictionary.xaml and referring to it like so: <TextBlock Visibility="{Binding Converter={StaticResource MyBoolProp ResourceKey=BoolToVis2}}"> </TextBlock> Any reason why I should need to do this?

• Intellisense fails for boost::shared_ptr with Boost 1.40.0 in Visual Studio 2008

  I'm having trouble getting intellisense to auto-complete shared pointers for boost 1.40.0. (It works fine for Boost 1.33.1.) Here's a simple sample project file where auto-complete does not work: #include <boost/shared_ptr.hpp> struct foo { bool func() { return true; }; }; void bar() { boost::shared_ptr<foo> pfoo; pfoo.get(); // <-- intellisense does not autocomplete after "pfoo." pfoo->func(); // <-- intellisense does not autocomplete after "pfoo->" } When I right-click on shared_ptr, and do "Go to Definition," it brings be to a forward-declaration of the shared_ptr class in . It does not bring me to the actual definition, which is in However, it compiles fine, and auto-completion works fine for "boost::." Also, auto-completion works fine for boost::scoped_ptr and for boost::shared_array. Any ideas?
