• OpenCV, Python (ctypes), and OS X 10.5: dylib errors/confusion

  I have tried two brands of ctypes (ctypes-opencv and another) wrappers for OpenCV (2.0 from svn head), can use Python and OpenCV in the Python console, but whenever I try to import the packages (from ctypes_opencv import *) from another Python file, I get the following error message: OSError: dlopen(/usr/local/lib/libcv.dylib, 6): Symbol not found: __ZN2cv10fastMallocEm Referenced from: /usr/local/lib/libcv.dylib Expected in: flat namespace And some more Python errors: module body in __init__.py at line 18 from ctypes_opencv.cxcore import * module body in cxcore.py at line 80 _cxDLL, _cvDLL, _hgDLL = detect_opencv() function detect_opencv in cxcore.py at line 59 cvDLL = cdll.LoadLibrary(find_lib('cv')) function LoadLibrary in __init__.py at line 431 return self._dlltype(name) function __init__ in __init__.py at line 353 self._handle = _dlopen(self._name, mode) I most recently built OpenCV using flags the ctypes_opencv wiki recommended: ENABLE_SSE(2) OFF and BUILD_NEW_PYTHON_SUPPORT OFF. I've tried a number of flag combinations though. I also tried using the MacPorts install of OpenCV, got the same messages, uninstalled it, and now it errors out as well. :P And if that wasn't enough, I tried using the latest ctypes wrapper, but get boost-jam errors. Any help would be very much appreciated.

• Mac OS X bash prompt bug?

  I am trying to set my bash prompt to display the time and current directory in bold: export PS1="\[\e[1m\][\A] \w \$ \[\e[0m\]" This does apparently work, but when I use the command history (ctrl-r), after finding the command I was searching for and pressing enter, this line is not displayed correctly. Here is an example: [21:58] ~/Wyona/svn-repos/zwischengas $ (reverse-i-search)`ta': tail -F logs/log4j-cnode1.log becomes, after pressing enter: [21:58] ~/Wyona/svn-repos/zwischengas $ -F logs/log4j-cnode1.log Of course, this is not "really" a problem, since the command does work correctly, but it is still annoying. Does anybody know why this happens? And, more importantly, how to prevent/fix it? Thanks, Memo

• C Differences on windows and Unix OS

  Is there any difference in C that is written in Windows and Unix. I teach C as well as C++ but some of my students have come back saying some of the sample programs does not run for them in Unix. Unix is alien for me. Unfortunately no experience with it whatsoever. All i know is to spell it. If there are any differences then i should be advising our department to invest on systems for Unix as currently there are no Unix systems in our lab. I do not want my students to feel that they have been denied or kept aloof from something.

• Gap appears between navigation bar and view after rotating & tab switching

  My iphone application is showing strange behavior when rotating: a gap appears between the navigation title and content view inside a tab bar view (details on how to reproduce are below). I've created a tiny test case that exhibits the same problem: a custom root UIViewController, which creates and displays a UITabBarController programmatically, which has two tabs: 1) plain UIViewController, and 2) UINavigationController created programmatically with a single plain UIViewController content view. The complete code for the application is in the root controller's viewDidLoad (every "*VC" class is a totally vanilla UIViewController subclass with XIB for user interface from XCode, with only the view background color changed to clearly identify each view, nothing else). From my real application, I see that the gap remains during all VC push and pops while the NavigationController tab is active. Switching away to a different tab and back to the Nav tab clears up the gap. What am I doing wrong? I'm running on SDK 3.1.3, this happens both on the simulator and on the device. Except for this particular sequence, everything seems to work fine. Help!

• UINavigationBar unresponsive after canceling a UITableView search in nav controller in tab bar in a popover

  Ok, this is an odd one and I can reproduce it with a new project easily. Here is the setup: I have a UISplitViewController. In the left side I have a UITabBarController. In this tab bar controller I have two UINavigationControllers. In the navigation controllers I have UITableViewControllers. These table views have search bars on them. Ok, what happens with this setup is that if I'm in portrait mode and bring up this view in the popover and I start a search in one of the table views and cancel it, the navigation bar becomes unresponsive. That is, the "back" button as well as the right side button cannot be clicked. If I do the exact same thing in landscape mode so we are not in a popover, this doesn't happen. The navigation bar stays responsive. So, the problem only seems to happen inside a popover. I've also noticed that if I do the search but click on an item in the search results which ends up loading something into the "detail view" of the split view and dismissing the popover, and then come back to the popover and then click the Cancel button for the search, the navigation bar is responsive. My application is a universal app and uses the same tab bar controller in the iPhone interface and it works there without this issue. As I mentioned above, I can easily reproduce this with a new project. Here are the steps if you want to try it out yourself: start new project - split view create new UITableViewController class (i named TableViewController) uncomment out the viewDidLoad method as well as the rightBarButtonItem line in viewDidLoad (so we will have an Edit button in the navigation bar) enter any values you want to return from numberOfSectioinsInTableView and numberOfRowsInSection methods open MainWindow.xib and do the following: please note that you will need to be viewing the xib in the middle "view mode" so you can expand the contents of the items drag a Tab Bar Controller into the xib to replace the Navigation Controller item drag a Navigation Controller into the xib as another item under the Tab Bar Controller delete the other two view controllers that are under the Tab Bar Controller (so, now our tab bar has just the one navigation controller on it) inside the navigation controller, drag in a Table View Controller and use it to replace the View Controller (Root View Controller) change the class of the new Table View Controller to the class created above (TableViewController for me) double-click on the Table View under the new Table View Controller to open it up (will be displayed in the tab bar inside the split view controller) drag a "Search Bar and Search Display" onto the table view save the xib run the project in simulator while in portrait mode, click on the Root List button to bring up popover notice the Edit button is clickable click in the Search box - we go into search mode click the Cancel button to exit search mode notice the Edit button no longer works So, can anyone help me figure out why this is happening? • Good Learning Method for Objective-C?

  Hi I know this must be asked a millions times and can't be easy to answer as there is o definitive method, but any help would be appreciated, thanks. I have been playing around with all sorts of things in Xcode and with Objective-C, however I can't seem to find a good way of learning things in an efficient way. I have bought the book 'Programming in Objective-C 2.0' and its great but just lays down the basics it seems. I want to learn in the 2D game development direction, then of course 3D after nailing that, if thats the right thing to do? I am 17 currently in year 13, last year of school/A Levels and am almost definitely taking a gap year. Any good, well known reputable courses online or offline (real world)? This is my first programming language, and I am absolutely serious about learning this. One last question, is when learning things online, I have in the past started building a feature and learning a certain aspect in programming only to find out after adding more its slows down the app or its to inefficient. Is the key to use a certain method in a certain situation (being os many ways to do the same thing) or use any of those methods and refine it in your app to make it run smoothly? Sorry, its hard for me to know when I have little experience, thus far. Sorry for rambling on! I would appreciate any help, thank you!

• OS X contains heapsort in stdlib.h which conflicts with heapsort in sort library

  I'm using Ariel Faigon's sort library, found here: http://www.yendor.com/programming/sort/ I was able to get all my code working on Linux, but unfortunately, when trying to compile with GCC on Mac, its default stdlib.h contains another heapsort, which unfortunately results in a conflicting types error. Here's the man page for Apple heapsort: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man3/heapsort.3.html Commenting out the heapsort in the sort library header causes a whole heap of problems. (pardon the pun) I also briefly thought of commenting out my use of stdlib.h, but I use malloc and realloc, so that won't work at all. Any ideas?

• Trying to retrieve the contents of UITableView cell on selection by user.

  Hi, this is my first post here and as i am very new (2 weeks in...) to iPhone (or any!) development i am a little unsure as to how much detail is needed or relevant, so please forgive me if I dont provide enough to be useful at this stage... Anyway, on to my problem - I have set up a UITableView-based app, which has a .plist for holding the data. The .plist has a dictionary as its root, followed by a number of Arrays, each containing the data-strings that display in the table. Everything is working fine until the point where i select a row. I have set it up so i get an alert with the results of the button press and it is here that i want to see the contents of the cell being produced. Instead of the expected string eg. "data line 1", all i get is the number of the row within the section. I have gone backwards and forwards but dont seem to be getting anywhere although i am sure it is something simple. The code compiles fine, with no warnings or errors, and if i can just get the string of the selected cell i will be well on my way, so any help appreciated. I know that I need to do more following the 'NSUInteger row = [indexPath row]; part but thats where my mind dries up... here is the relevant 'selection' section, if i need to post more code please let me know, and i really appreciate any help with this...(please forgive my 'alert' message, i was just happy at that point that i get SOMETHING back from the row selection!) • How do I create a wifi network bridge with qemu on OS X?

  I grabbed a small FreeBSD live CD and QEMU, and I'm trying to bridge my Mac OS X 10.8 wifi connection so that the guest OS is available on my LAN. However, the guest OS never gets a DHCP lease. This works perfectly with VirtualBox in their "bridged" network mode, so I know it can be done. I need to get it working with QEMU because VirtualBox doesn't support the architecture that I need for this project. Update 1: I tried sudo defaults write "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot" "Kernel Flags" "net.inet.ip.scopedroute=0" and rebooting per this mailing list suggestion, but this didn't help. In fact, it made VirtualBox bridged mode stop working.

• Crashing the OS X Pasteboard

  I have an application that reads in text by emulating CMD-C copy commands and reading the pasteboard - unfortunately this the only way to achieve what I need. Occasionally, something goes wrong in execution (not sure yet if it's related to the copy command or not) and the app crashes. Once in a while, this has a knock on effect on the system-wide pasteboard - any other application that is running will crash if I attempt a copy, cut, or paste. Is there a robust way to handle this - something I should be doing with the NSPasteboard before exiting? Any information on what might be happening is appreciated. • Change a UIButton View's background upon press

  This should be easy but its got me stumped. I've got a button on each row of a table cell. The button is to delete the file associated with that row. I have an image that indicates if the file is present on the iPhone or not present. When the user presses the button, the target action method (showDeleteSheet) then calls a UIActionSheet with a variable to give it the indexPath of the row pressed. Then the user presses delete on the action sheet and the action sheet's clickedButtonAtIndex method deletes the file. Now, I need to update the button's background image property to change the image in the appropriate table cell to the not downloaded image. This can be done in either the button's target action method or the action sheet's clickedButtonAtIndex method. If so I don't know how to tell it which. Because I test if the file is downloaded when the button is made and the background image is set, when I scroll down so the cell in question is de-queued then scroll back up it show's the correct image. I've tried to force the table to reload but [table reloadData]; is doing nothing. I've tried reloadRowsAtIndexPaths and still no good. Any one care to educate me on how this is done?

• Selenium tests not building due to NUnit error (Mono+OS X)

  I'm running Selenium RC on my Mac and driving my tests using NUnit in C#. My problem is that when I try and build a simple test in Mono I get the following error. Error CS0433: The imported type `NUnit.Framework.Assert' is defined multiple times (CS0433) (TestProject) When I comment out the Assert's it runs fine.
