  • Can't get Javac to work on Mac OS X

    I am trying to compile with javac on Snow Leopard through the command line. I have Xcode installed. I am just using a simple Hello World file, it works in Eclipse but I can't get it to work using javac. javac -version returns javac 1.6.0_17 HelloWorld.java public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { String message = "Welcome to Java!"; System.out.println(message); } } I type: javac HelloWorld.java and get the following error. HelloWorld.java:1: class, interface, or enum expected public class HelloWorld ^ 1 error and... javac -cp . HelloWorld.java returns the same. echo $CLASSPATH just returns blank. Thanks for the help.

  • Loading images to UIScrollview crashes

    Hello All. I have a Navigationcontroller pushing a UIViewController with a scrollview inside. Within the scrollview I download a certain number of images around 20 (sometimes more) each sized around 150 KB. All these images are added to the scrollview so that their origin is x +imageSize and the following is sorted right to the one before. All in all I think its a lot of data (3-4 MB). On an I pod Touch this sometimes crashes, the IPhone can handle it once, if it has to load the data again (some other images) , it crashes too. I guess its a memory issue but within my code, I download the image, save it to a file on the phone as NSData, read it again from file and add it to a UIImageview which I release. So I have freed the memory I allocated, nevertheless it still crashes. Can anyone help me out? Since Im new to this, I dont know the best way to handle the Images in a scrollview. Besides I create the controller at start from nib, which means I dont have to release it, since I dont use alloc - right?   • Can I format a usb stick on windows xp, in HFS+ format, and make the usb stick mac os x bootable?

    My Intel Mac OS X computer is corrupt and I feel, at this point, I need to perform a fresh install of the OS. It consistently and automatically logs out, right after I log in. I tried logging in as the root. I tried safe boot and it wouldn't load. Anyway, the point is I want put the Mac OS X installer on a USB thumb drive and have it boot up on the Intel Mac OS X computer. Unfortunately, the computer is inaccessible, as I mentioned above. So, I have a Windows XP machine that I'm using and attempting to create a bootable USB thumb drive that's compatible with Mac OS X. I have tried transmac, macdrive, and paradox for windows -- all of which proved unable to format the usb stick in HFS+. How do I know this? Well, even though the Transmac reports that's been formatted to HFS+, Computer Management in Windows says otherwise: I even put the installer on the usb drive, after transmac reportedly formatted it properly, and the mac os x computer didn't even recognize that a USB thumb drive was inserted, via pressing the option key at boot-up time. I'm not sure what the problem is and how to actually format the drive. Can anybody offer any help? I would appreciate it. Thank you.

  • Rubygame on OS X shebang problem

    I'm playing around with Rubygame. I installed it with the Mac Pack, and now I have the rsdl executable. rsdl game.rb works fine, but when I chmod +x the rb file, add the shebang to rsdl (tried direct path and /usr/bin/env rsdl) and try to execute it (./game.rb), it starts to flicker between the Terminal and rsdl which is trying to open, and eventually gives up and gives a bus error. Anyone know what's causing that? I'm on Snow Leopard (10.6.2) if it makes a difference. Thanks.

    HI all. Here is the scenario. I have port 8888 for my program to use. I build a TCP and a UDP listener on that port. (This can do, c# allows, because they are two different protocols) My question is If the network traffic is very busy, TCP sockets may refuse or signalling the other end to stop sending things, it is called congestion control, right? So if TCP is congestion controlling, other ends may not send more data, in this "TCP quiet period", UDP channel should have not that much of traffic, right? I want to figure out the TCP traffic will affect UDP traffic or not?

But not even once the method didReceiveData. I wonder if, even though there is no USA locations, it will still send at least something? is there a way to know which are the parameters the function is waiting for? I don't have access to the source of the webservice but i can access the WSDL.

Now, when i press "Finish" on the final step of the wizard it remain open and an empty project with white-marked packages is added to the work branch, I tried to reinstall eclipse and it's sdk+plug, still nothing.   • Getting Postfix to process the mail queue on Mac OS X

    I'm in the process of getting Sendmail/Postfix setup so that I can send and test my PHP scripts when using the mail() function. I've got to the point that when I run the mail() function in PHP, the script executes without any errors and the mail is sent to my mailq but it then does not get processed and simply times-out with a message of: Operation timed out.   • Proxy the traffic in http and https from my iPhone/iPad to VirtualBox on my Mac

    I've got a mac running a Debian VirtualBox which forward the traffic from 8080 on the mac to 80 in the box and from 8443 to 443. The domains with the extension .dev are redirected on the mac to 127.0.0.1 with dnsmasq. The traffic on IP 127.0.0.1 is forwarded from 80 to 8080 and from 443 to 8443 using ipfw. So with this settings, my Debian VirtualBox gets all the traffic of my .dev domains in http or https. What I want is to be able to proxy the traffic of my .dev domains in http and https from my iPad to my Debian VirtualBox on the mac. I've try to setup an HTTP proxy on the ipad but I can only do it for one port (and it's not working with the port 443). Any idea on how I could achieve that ?

It seems that simply creating a shortcut will open the file in my editor. Is there a flag I need to set somewhere to tell it to run instead of opening it for editing?

    I followed the instructions for setting up postgresql from this site All seems to go fine until I try: createuser --superuser myname -U postgres I get the following exception: createuser: could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"? For the life of me I can't figure out how to resolve this. Any ideas???

  • Releasing Autoreleasepool crashes on iOS 4.0 (and only on 4.0)

    Hi there. I'm wondering what could cause this. I have several methods in my code that i call using performSelectorInBackground. Within each of these methods i have an Autoreleasepool that is being alloced/initialized at the beginning and released at the end of the method. this perfectly works on iOS 3.1.3 / 3.2 / 4.2 / 4.2.1 but it fataly crashes on iOS 4.0 with a EXC_BAD_ACCESS Exception that happens after calling [myPool release]. After I noticed this strange behaviour I was thinking about rewriting portions of my code and to make my app "less parallel" in case that the client os is 4.0. After I did that, the next point where the app crashed was within the ReachabilityCallback-Method from Apples Reachability "Framework". well, now I'm not quite sure what to do. The things i do within my threaded methods is pretty simple xml parsing (no cocoa calls or stuff that would affect the UI). After each method finishes it posts a notification which the coordinating-thread listens to and once all the parallelized methods have finished, the coordinating thread calls viewcontrollers etc... I have absolutely no clue what could cause this weird behaviour. Especially because Apples Code fails as well. any help is greatly appreciated! thanks, sam
