• How to use mount points in MilkShape models?

  I have bought the Warriors & Commoners model pack from Frogames and the pack contains (among other formats) two animated models and several non-animated objects (axe, shield, pilosities, etc.) in MilkShape3D format. I looked at the official "MilkShape 3D Viewer v2.0" (msViewer2.zip at http://www.chumba.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/download.html) source code and implemented loading the model, calculating the joint matrices and everything looks fine. In the model there are several joints that are designated as the "mount points" for the static objects like axe and shield. I now want to "put" the axe into the hand of the animated model, and I couldn't quite figure out how. I put the animated vertices in a VBO that gets updated every frame (I know I should do this with a shader, but I didn't have time to do this yet). I put the static vertices in another VBO that I want to keep static and not updated every frame. I now tried to render the animated vertices first, then use the joint matrix for the "mount joint" to calculate the location of the static object. I tried many things, and what about seems to be right is to transpose the joint matrix, then use glMatrixMult() to transform the modelview matrix. For some objects like the axe this is working, but not for others, e.g. the pilosities. Now my question: How is this generally implemented when using bone/joint models, and especially with MilkShape3D models? Am I on the right track?

• Using Ogre with android [closed]

  I am trying get Ogre 3d to work on android, I have managed to download and run the ogre sample browser but I am really struggling with trying to get a basic application working i have been trying for days now with no avail. Does anyone have any pointers on where to start with this? Thanks if anyone can help EDIT: Very sorry for my rubbish question! I am a bit new to this and I am just trying to seek some guidance. Ok so i followed the instructions on the Ogre wiki to build ogre for android and the sample browser here: http://www.ogre3d.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=CMake+Quick+Start+Guide&tikiversion=Android so it is deffinately possible. The issue I am having is knowing what I need to do to get started with ogre e.g just a simple hello world style app where it might just show the ogre head, so tutorials might actually be good because I could not really find any simple ones as I am very new to 3D development. I just found that the sample browser was just massive and yes it has everything in it but it's very difficult to understand how it all works. What I am asking is basically some help, as I have been trying to pull out some parts of the sample browser to just create a view with a 3D model. Hope this is better?

• First Shard for SQL Azure and SQL Server

  That's it!!!!! It's ready to go and be tested, abused and improved! It requires .NET 4.0 and uses some cool technologies, like caching (the new System.Runtime.Caching) and the Task Parallel Library (System.Threading.Tasks). With this library you can: Define a shard of 1, 2 or 100 SQL databases (a mix of SQL Server and SQL Azure) Read from the shard in parallel or sequentially, and cache resultsets Update, Delete a record from the shard Insert records quickly in the shard with a round-robin load Reset the cache You can download the source code and a sample application here: http://enzosqlshard.codeplex.com/  Note about the breadcrumbs: I had to add a connection GUID in order for the library to know which database a record came from. The GUID is currently calculated on the fly in the library using some of the parameters of the connection string. The GUID is also dynamically added to the result set so the client can pass it back to the library. I am curious to get your feedback on this approach. ** Correction from my previous post: this is a library for a Horizontal Partition Shard (HPS): tables are split across databases horizontally. So in essence, the tables need to have the same schema across the databases.

• How can I deal with file association in different application(not in Nautilus)?

  Maybe i don't understand the system. Upgraded to (reinstalled) Ubuntu 11.04. Is there any way the applications can use something that i set in nautilus, or it's just a wrong idea about the usage? In nautilus the file association works great, easy, handy and so on... My first problem was when installed chromium. Downloaded a file, a popup ask for assocation, set nautilus. And it only opens folder, for any file show an error: it is not a direcrory. Ok, so i thought Google chrome changed, because previously .pdf open acrobat,.torrent open vuze and so on. But now i have to open nautilus on download folder with it, than select and open the preferable application by manually and can't use any automatism i used to. Then in gnome commander , it not followed the default association i set in nautilus. Ok maybe it is commander fault. use it's own. Then in calibre, the "read" use again this default "can't open its not a directory" error So it's seems to me the applications not using well this file associations or i really don't understand the aim of file associations system (mime,.desktop files,...) If there is no solution i think i have to search some program (if any exist's) which can identify and launch application and set as default instead nautilus.

• Problems syncing photos and strange effects of uploaded files from other devices

  I have a Galaxy Spica (GT-i5700) Android v2.1, rooted with Leshak dev 7 #123. But never mind the root info, the problem would be the same unrooted. The photos from this phone is stored in "sdcard/images", nevertheless the phone also creates a "sdcard/DCIM" but only stores some thumbnails there. Problem nr 1: U1 only reads the DCIM-folder for automatic photo-upload. So photos stored in this phone is not uploaded. If I move photos to "DCIM" folder, U1 recognises the photos and start uploading them. Possible solution: Could there be an option in the settings, to set preferred photo folder? Problem nr 2: Out of 74 pictures, 12 did not get uploaded. Pressing "Retry failed transfers" in Settings does nothing. Pressing the files where status is "Upload failed, tap to retry" only changes the status to "Uploading..." but nothing gets uploaded. If I upload another file to U1, it is uploaded directly without any problem. It has nothing to do with file size, 1,1 MB files has been uploaded fine whilst some failed are 0,8 MB. Problem nr 3: The photos from DCIM are in my case uploaded to a folder called "Pictures - GT-I5700" in U1. If I log in to the homepage and from there upload another photo in "Pictures - GT-I5700", it shows up in U1 on my phone fine. But when I tap it, U1 downloads the photo to "sdcard/U1/Pictures - GT-I5700". If it sync photos from "sdcard/DCIM" to a specific folder, why not also download files to the same folder from which it is synced? After a while of usage, syncing and uploading files from different clients it would be a mishmash of folders and places files are stored and considering that I see no use of U1 at all. Another question: If my SD card in some way breaks down/some folders cannot be read/card temporarly changed and U1 is running, does U1 consider that as files deleted and also delete from the cloud?

• running adb via wifi on ubuntu 13.04

  First, im new on linux so please bear with me. I have a rooted android phone and i was able to run the adb via wifi network on windows, where i just need to go to the adb's directory and type adb connect. However, i can't just do that in my ubuntu. Everytime i enter adb connect, the terminal always said that i dont have the adb and i must install it. When i check the ADT Bundle (I downloaded the bundled one from here), i can see the adb is there inside the platform-tools folder. I already tried to change the directory to the platform-tools and run the adb connect from there, but its still not working. Do i need to install the adb again via terminal? Or did i miss something? You may be wondering why dont i just download the adb (again) via terminal and do trial and error? The answer is because i dont have a good internet connection, so i want to avoid unnecessary downloads. Thanks for your time :D

  Some tips to keep in mind to make sure ADF Mobile application's performance is optimal: 1. Select release mode in deployment profile. This is perhaps the most important thing to remember to ensure best performance for ADF Mobile Apps. Selecting this option causes the deployer to package optimized JVM and minified JS libs with the mobile app there by significantly improving the over all performance of the application. 2. For iOS you do not need to do anything else other than selecting  release mode in deploy profile. However, on Android you have to create a keystore and configure it in JDev --> Tools --> Preferences --> ADF Mobile --> Platforms : Android as shown in the snapshot below 3. Steps for generating the Keystore for Android using keytool :  4. Logging level setting in logging.properties: Make sure the log level is set to SEVERE for both framework logger as well as the application logger as follows oracle.adfmf.framework.level=SEVERE oracle.adfmf.application.level=SEVERE 5. When using SOAP WebServices with WebService Data Control make sure you select the option to copy the WSDL. This will cause the JDev to download the WSDL and all the XSDs referenced by the WSDL from the server at design time and package them with the application during deployment. This way the application does not incur the cost of downloading these resources at run time from the device.

• Cleaning Up After Chrome

  I find Google Chrome, which I have no interest in, is continually getting installed on machines in my house, mostly due to Adobe Shockwave bringing it along as an install package. (Family members are agreeing to the download, not realizing the Chrome is getting dropped as well.) My major issue after uninstalling Chrome is that you can no longer click on links in Outlook emails. There is a lot on the web about this, and Google has not been proactive at fixing their uninstaller. I have now added a registry file to my Win64 systems to reset the problem registry keys and clear the error. This registry file is pretty simple. It merely resets HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html, and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.shtml back to their default values of "htmlfile". Chrome takes over the handling of these file extensions because its default install is to make itself the default web browser. The Chrome uninstalled fails to clear/reset them. In troubleshooting this, I looked in my registry based on the web info on the Chrome uninstall problem. Since my system had never had Chrome installed, my registry did not have the problem keys. To troubleshoot, I installed (ugh!) and uninstalled Chrome. Sure enough, Chrome left the expected debris with a value string of "ChromeHTML.PR2EPLWMBQZK3BY7Z2BFBMFERU" or something similar. Resetting these values fixed the problem. I see that Chrome leaves quite a bit of debris behind in the registry. I guess it is creating the keys then leaving them behind, even though their presence (with bad data) subsequently affects operations.

• Internet slow on one router only [the problem only in Ubuntu] [on hold]

  Internet works perfectly on every other router, but browsing sucks at home (slow browsing and slow loading times). I changed DNS servers to 8.8.0.0, still doesn't help. And funnily, download speed is extremely high on this network (meaning torrents for example), but using browsers and loading websites is extremely slow (only on this network). Do I need to change something in router settings or what can I try? By the way, I use wired connection to router. EDIT: There's no problems when using Windows. • Java SE 8 (with JavaFX) Developer Preview Release for ARM

  In an effort to get ARM developers testing Java SE 8 before the scheduled release later this year a Java SE 8 Developer Preview Release for ARM has been made available. This release has been tested on the Raspberry PI but should work on other ARM platforms. In addition to the new Java SE features, this release provides specific support of hard float GPU on the Raspberry PI. The support for hard float GPU has been anticipated by a number of developers. Additionally, this release includes support of an optimized JavaFX. Specific configurations of JDK 8 on ARM are defined below: Java FX is supported on ARM architecture v6/7 (hard float) Supported platforms without Java FX: ARM architecture v6/7 (hard float) ARM architecture v7 (VFP, little endian) ARM architecture v5 (soft float, little endian) Linux x86 The download page includes setup instructions for a Raspberry PI device as well as demos and samples. • Build vs Rebuild

  Build means compile and link only the source files that have changed since the last build, while Rebuild means compile and link all source files regardless of whether they changed or not. Build is the normal thing to do and is faster. Sometimes the versions of project target components can get out of sync and rebuild is necessary to make the build successful. In practice, you never need to Clean. Build or Rebuild Solution builds or rebuilds all projects in the your solution, while Build or Rebuild <project name> builds or rebuilds the StartUp project. To set the StartUp project, right click on the desired project name in the Solution Explorer tab and select Set as StartUp project. The project name now appears in bold. Compile just compiles the source file currently being edited. Useful to quickly check for errors when the rest of your source files are in an incomplete state that would prevent a successful build of the entire project. Ctrl-F7 is the shortcut key for Compile. All source files that have changed are saved when you request a build/rebuild, so you don't have to save them first. When you run your executable (F5 or Ctrl-F5), Visual Studio saves all your changed source files and builds anything that changed, so you don't need to explicitly do those steps every time. This allows for quick "trial and error" debugging. • Commands don't have permission when using absplute path

  I have folders set up this way: /srv/samba/video getfacl /srv/samba/video # file: srv/samba/video # owner: root # group: nogroup user::rwx group::--- group:sambaclients:rwx group:deluge:rwx mask::rwx other::--- default:user::rwx default:group::--- default:group:sambaclients:rwx default:group:deluge:rwx default:mask::rwx default:other::--- That means, user deluge has rwx to folder /srv/samba/video. However, when running command as user deluge, I am getting weird permission errors. When in folder /srv/samba/video: sudo -u deluge mkdir foo works flawlessly. But when using absolute path: sudo -u deluge mkdir /srv/samba/video/foo I am getting permission denied. When running sudo -u deluge id, I get output uid=113(deluge) gid=124(deluge) skupiny=124(deluge) which shows that user deluge is indeed in group deluge. Also, the behavior was the same when I gave the permissions also to user deluge not just group deluge. When executing as non-system user, it does work. The reason that I want to use absolute paths is that I am using automatically triggered post-download script which extracts some files into the folder. I have spent way too many hours to solve this problem myself. mkdir isn't the only command that fails, touch is doing the same thing, so I suspect that it's not mkdir's fault. If you need more info, I will try to put it in here, just ask. Thanx in advance.

• A fix for the design time error in MVVM Light V4.1

  For those of you who installed V4.1 of MVVM Light and created a project for Windows Phone 8, you will have noticed an error showing up in the design surface (either in Visual Studio designer, or in Expression Blend). The error says: “Could not load type ‘System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanging’ from assembly ‘mscorlib.extensions’” with additional information about version numbers. The error is caused by an incompatibility between versions of System.Windows.Interactivity. Because this assembly is strongly named, any version incompatibility is causing the kind of error shown here (for an interesting discussion on the strong naming issue, see this thread on Codeplex). I managed to resolve the issue for Windows Phone 8 and will publish a cleaned up installer next week. In the mean time, in order to allow you to continue development, please follow the steps: Download the new DLLs zip package (MVVMLight_V4_1_25_WP8). Right click on the Zip file and select Properties from the context menu. Press the “Unblock” button (if available) and then OK. Right click again on the zip package and select “Extract all…”. Select a known location for the new DLLs. Open the MVVM Light project with the design time error in Visual Studio 2012. Open the References folder in the Solution Explorer. Select the following DLLs: GalaSoft.MvvmLight.dll, GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Extras.dll, Microsoft.Practices.ServiceLocation.dll and System.Windows.Interactivity.dll. Press “delete” and confirm to remove the DLLs from your project. Right click on References and select Add Reference from the context menu. Browse to the folder with the new DLLs. Select the four new DLLs and press OK. Rebuild your application, and open it again in Blend or in the Visual Studio designer. The error should be gone now. In the next few days, as time allows, I will publish a new MSI containing a fixed version of the DLLs as well as a few other improvements. • How to schedule time-of-day upgrades

  Hello, I'm responsible for about 30 Ubuntu computers at a private K-8 school. We have only a 3Mbps internet connection serving the entire campus, and I would like to ensure that updates are done in the middle of the night - so that daytime tasks are not slowed down. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and have set all computers to download and install security updates via the update manager. I have also installed cron-apt, and modified the config file to stagger the start times of the upgrades from about 10pm to 4am local time. HOWEVER - this morning I arrived at the school at 7:30am and all the computers were busy downloading a large security based update. Needless to say, all internet activity was slowed to a crawl (for the next 2 hours), and the computer users were very very upset. This was the event I'm trying so hard to prevent. It seems that my scheme to ensure middle of the night downloads failed, and I'm not sure why. I've also tried some schemes using unattended-upgrades & crontab, but there always seemed to be something scheduling upgrades to occur in addition to the ones I try to force at middle of the night. Is there a sure fire way to absolutely positively guarantee that updates will occur only at one specific time? It would be nice if the update manager just had a drop down menu to specify a designated time. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

• What Does Installing Ubuntu "Alongside" Windows Entail?

  I recently posted a question about an error I was receiving trying to access Ubuntu from the boot menu. I am using Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.x (I THINK because I haven't accessed it in over a year due to being unable to run an important program for one of my classes on Ubuntu). On another laptop, I partitioned the hard drive and installed Windows and Ubuntu on the partitions. On this laptop, I simply installed Ubuntu from Windows, picking the option "alongside Windows", and didn't partition my hard drive manually. I was under the impression "alongside" entailed that Ubuntu would partition my hard drive, and that if I were to return my Windows partition to factory settings it would not affect the Ubuntu partition. However, given my current problem, I am wondering if I was mistaken in this assumption? When installing Ubuntu from Windows, selecting "alongside" Windows as the option from the Ubuntu installer, does that simply install Ubuntu within the Windows partition and thus returning it to factory settings would wipe out anything I had on the Ubuntu OS as well? Ubuntu is still in the boot menu as an option, but when I try to access it it says the drive is "corrupt" and wubi is mentioned in the error. I additionally tried to download a program ran from Windows to investigate partitions and there were no sign of my Ubuntu partition viewable from Windows. Is it possible Windows just can't see it? Any insight, corrections or answers is appreciated.
