• Facebook Graph API - authorization types?

  I'm struggling with the new Facebook Graph API, perhaps someone here can help. Here is what I want to do: provide a ‘login w/ FB’ button, throw to /authorize, get a code, throw to /access_token, get an access_token, and be able to hit https://graph.facebook.com/me for info about the user. When I try to use type=client_cred in the /authorize call, I get an access_token that lets me hit URLs with userIDs or names, but not /me. I receive an error stating I need a valid token. If I can't hit /me, how do I figure out who the current user is? What exactly should I use in the type param if I want a website to access a users data? I've seen posts with type=web_server, etc, but I can't seem to find a sure fire way to do, what I think, is pretty simple... Thanks ahead of time for any help thats provided...

• Silverlight Navigation using Mvvm-light(oobe)+MEF?

  What is the best approach for navigating between UserControls/Pages(out of browser experience)? I'm fairly new to Silverlight and even newer to the mvvm pattern. How well does the Navigation Framework Integrate with the MVVM Light Toolkit? A snippet for general application flow control with the two would be great. The plan was to use the Navigation Framework for general flow or using Jeremy Likeness's approach to region management(http://csharperimage.jeremylikness.com/search/label/regions) and swapping out regions as needed. I've seen a few places mention replacing the Visual Root, but that sounded like a hack to me. Any advice, snippets, or a nudge in the general direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

• Caspol, VMs, Mapped Drives, VS2010

  Hi I have a VM (Win7 32 bit) with VS2010 installed. I have a drive mapped into it from the host machine (VM 64 bit), when I have some of my VS2010 projects and to where I am building them. One of my projects is looking to load an assembly. If I copy that assembly to a local drive, the program ruins fine. If I leave it on the mapped drive, then I get an error Exception is: FileLoadException - Could not load file or assembly 'file:///Z:\BusinessTier\bin\Debug\BusinessTier.dll I am unsure whether or not I need to run Caspol. There is another post on SO which pointed me to a post which indicated that VS2008 SP1+ removed the need for caspol wrt network drives, but I wondered if I still needed to because I am in a VM. I have tried running the following on the host machine in an attempt to give permissions to VS inside the VM, but to no avail C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30128>caspol -m -ag 1.2 -url file://g:\* FullTrust where g:* is the drive being mapped into the VM (as drive z:) What am I missing (apart from understanding!) • SQL Server: Profiling statements inside a User-Defined Function

  I'm trying to use SQL Server Profiler (2005) to track down some application performance problems. One of the calls being made is to a table-valued user-defined function. This function wraps a select that joins several tables together. In SQL Server Profiler, the call to the UDF is logged. However, the select that underlies the UDF isn't being logged at all. Because of this, I'm not getting useful data on which tables & indexes are being hit. I'd like to feed this info into the Database Tuning Advisor for some indexing advice. Is there any way (short of unwrapping the queries themselves) to log the tables called by UDFs in Profiler?

• Copying Pasting Word 2007 docs to HTML WYSIWYG editors

  Microsoft word has a ton of proprietary formatting and styles that do not translate well to html WYSIWYG editors. When you paste them over to the html editor and try to edit the pasted info it causes all kinds of clashing styles. I want to be able to keep the general structure but leave out the proprietary stuff. Essentially I want to save clients the headache of having to completely strip out all formatting forcing them to redo all the styling again in the WYSIWYG, but at the same time avoid the conflicts that Word formatting creates. Any ideas?

  Hello, I want to know the types and details in a plain Win32DLL just like we can get in case of COM.In COM every thing embed inside idl and results in TLB, here we get every thing , MSFT exposes APIS by which we can extract types. In case of Win32 I strongly needed types defined in it and all details of that type(e.g what are members in it and their types as well). Parsing PE file and looking up export table only gives the exported functions. I want all custom types(Win32 interfaces,classes and members details with types) defined in it. How? Regards Usman

• getting count(*) using createSQLQuery in hibernate?

  I have several sql queries that I simply want to fire at the database. I am using hibernate throughout the whole application, so i would prefer to use hibernate to call this sql queries. In the example below i want to get count + name, but cant figure out how to get that info when i use createSQLQuery(). I have seen workarounds where people only need to get out a single "count()" from the result, but in this case I am using count() + a column as ouput SELECT count(*), a.name as count FROM user a WHERE a.user_id IN (SELECT b.user_id FROM user b) GROUP BY a.name HAVING COUNT(*) BETWEEN 2 AND 5; fyi, the above query would deliver a result like this if i call it directly on the database: 1, John 2, Donald 1, Ralph ...

• Linking with Boost error

  I just downloaded and ran the boost installer for version 1.42 (from boostpro.com), and set up my project according to the getting started guide. • Etiquette for refactoring other people's sourcecode?

  Our team of software developers consists of a bunch of experienced programmers with a variety of programming styles and preferences. We do not have standards for everything, just the bare necessities to prevent total chaos. Recently, I bumped into some refactoring done by a colleague. My code looked somewhat like this: public Person CreateNewPerson(string firstName, string lastName) { var person = new Person() { FirstName = firstName, LastName = lastName }; return person; } Which was refactored to this: public Person CreateNewPerson (string firstName, string lastName) { Person person = new Person (); person.FirstName = firstName; person.LastName = lastName; return person; } Just because my colleague needed to update some other method in one of the classes I wrote, he also "refactored" the method above. For the record, he's one of those developers that despises syntactic sugar and uses a different bracket placement/identation scheme than the rest of us. My question is: What is the (C#) programmer's etiquette for refactoring other people's sourcecode (both semantic and syntactic)?

• HTTPHeaders Added to Downloaded File - CocoaHTTPServer???

  In an iPhone app where I use cocoahttpserver and take a sqlite database file from the iPhone and download it with a browser to my PC, when I look at the downloaded file using TextEdit, I see the text (below) at the end of the file. This text has apparently no effect on use of the database file, but I would prefer to not add stuff to the database file at all. Any ideas where this header info is coming from in cocoahttpserver and how to stop it? • How to get Passive FTP Working Through an Iptables Firewall?

  I have an iptables firewall running on a Fedora Linux server that is basically being used as a firewall router and OpenVPN server. That's it. We have been using the same iptables firewall code for YEARS. I did make some changes on 21 December to re-route a mySQL port, but given what has happened I've completely backed those changes out. Sometime after those changes were made and backed out passive FTP, served from a vsftpd process, stopped working. We use a passive ftp client to FLING (that's the name of the ftp client running under Windows! :-) ) images from our remote telescopes to our server. I believe it is something in the firewall code because I can drop the firewall and the FTP file transfer (and connecting to the ftp site with Internet Explorer to see the file list) works. When I raise the iptables firewall, it stops working. Again, this is code that we'd been using for years. However, I felt that maybe there was something I missed, so we had a .bak file from 2009 that I used. Same behavior, passive ftp does not work. So, I went and rebuilt the firewall code line by line to see what line was causing the problem. Everything worked until I put the line -A FORWARD -j DROP in very near the end. Of course, if I am correct, this is the line that basically "turns on" the firewall, saying drop everything except for the exceptions I've made above. However, this line has been in the iptables code probably since 2003. So, I'm at the end of my rope, and I still can't figure out why this has stopped working. I guess I need an expert on iptables configuration. • jquery error() calls showing up in firebug profile

  I am working on an ASP.NET application that make a lot of jquery and javascript calls and trying to optimize the client side code as much as possible. (This web application is only designed to run on special hardware that has very low memory and processing power.) The profiler in firebug is great for figuring out what calls are taking up the most time. I have already optimized a lot of my selectors and it is much faster. However the profile shows a lot of jquery error() calls. In the attached image of the firebug profile window you can see it was called 52 times, accounting for 15.4 of the processing time. Is that normal for jquery to call its error() like that? My code works flawlessy, and there are no error messages in the firefox error console. It seems like that is a significant performance hit. Is there anyway to get more info on what the errors are? Thanks.

  I am building a web application crawler that's meant not only to find all the links or pages in a web application, but also perform all the allowed actions in the app (such as pushing buttons, filling forms, notice changes in the DOM even if they did not trigger a request etc.) Basically, this is a kind of "browser simulator". I find WebKit a good option to implement my crawler, since it has all the needed technology (Javascript engine, parsers, DOM manipulation, etc.) but it seems kind of an overkill being a fully featured browser. Is there any toolkit you know that can provide the above functionality?

• Installing MonoDevelop on Suse Enterprise 10.0

  I tried to install MonoDevelop on Suse 11.0 Enterprise, using the 1-click install on the MonoDevelop download page, but quickly wound up in a tangle of missing dependencies. I then tried using the Suse software repositories to get MonoDevelop, and waded through several of the dependencies for awhile trying to get the necessary packages to fulfill the dependencies, but some of the packages in the Suse repositories actually appear to be missing the needed RPM files. Are these repositories no longer being actively maintained? I am aware that there is a CD on the Mono site (called the Mono LiveCD) that appears to contain a complete installation of the development environment, as well as a DVD for OpenSuse 11.2 (on the OpenSuse site) that might actually have all of the Mono software already installed. But the target environment for the utility I am writing is Suse 11.0 Enterprise Server. Does that matter? What is the shortest distance between two points here?

• Flow diagram in html/css

  Hi, is there some good way to create a flow / swimline diagram without resorting to scripting or tables? I'm talking about showing different hosts sending packets (so hosts on the X axis, time on the Y and arrows to the destination host). It seems like too much elements for tables (especially the arrows spanning multiple columns either way), but on the other hand, divs would be hard to position in the right place horizontally (they'd have to be basically aligned to a specified "column"). Is there any good way out? Any helper frameworks? (I don't want to do canvas stuff unless really needed)

  I've got a custom HttpHandler in my ASP.NET application, that basically builds and returns a javascript object. I have no experience with server-side caching, and my (possibly incompetent) google searches aren't returning anything basic enough to get me started. Could anyone provide a very simple example to give me an idea of how to access and use the server-side cache from a custom HttpHandler, or, leave some links to get me started? Thanks a lot. Additional info: I'm on IIS 6, and my code-behind is in C# (although a VB example would work as well).

• How to render Asian characters in a PDF using xhtmlrenderer

  I was wondering what steps were needed to render Asian characters using the java based xhtmlrenderer (flying saucer) library? I am wanting to render the following: <html> <body>????????</body> </html> Without any font settings being added to the HTML this renders fine in normal browsers, but I can't find anyway to render this to PDF using the iTextRenderer portion of xhtmlrenderer. After following various threads on the mailing list, I see lots of posts talking about adding .TTF files from the c:\windows\fonts directory, and I have modified the examples to run on linux ( https://gist.github.com/643173745182c9becc57 ), which shows me various fonts being displayed, but I don't see any Asian glyffs. Does anyone have any decent pointers, or clean solutions to this problem? Or am I looking at the wrong problem with a really simple solution elsewhere?

• Why is SwiftMailer throwing "Internal Server Error"?

  I am using Symfony + SwiftMailer and getting the following error from SwiftMailer: 500 | Internal Server Error | Swift_TransportException Expected response code 220 but got code "", with message "" and can't figure out why. I am using hMailServer on my local machine, and have setup my factories.yml file (as I'm using Symfony) as follows: mailer: class: sfMailer param: logging: %SF_LOGGING_ENABLED% charset: %SF_CHARSET% delivery_strategy: realtime transport: class: Swift_SmtpTransport param: host: splodge.loc port: 25 encryption: ~ username: ~ password: ~ I'm using the following code to send: $message = $this->getMailer()->compose( '[email protected]', '[email protected]', 'Reset Password', 'Message' ); $result = $this->getMailer()->send($message); Has anyone had an issue like this before? I have found that sometimes, and very randomly, the send goes through, but every other time, I get the above error message. So constantly refreshing the page that sends the mail, fails unpredictably, and as the code sometimes works, it's kinda hard to figure out what's wrong. Any help will be highly appreciated!

  I'd like to create a dragster/dropzone like dock menu. Looks a bit like a stack with a nsview in it. After a lot if documentation searching and googling I've found a way to determine a dock icon's location. • Reusable calendar popup like iCalendar/scheduler on iPad? Not a date picker wheel.

  I need a date picker that shows an actual calendar (similar to the built-in calendar feature on the iPad.) Is there a reusuable widget? How could I easily implement one? The date picker wheel is terrible because it doesn't show you the day of the week (Sun, Mon, Tue...) and isn't really needed on the iPad where you have enough room to show a calendar which is a very user friendly way of letting someone pick a date (it is mentally easy to find the third Tuesday from today.)

• Converting JSON into Python dict

  I've been searching around trying to find an answer to this question, and I can't seem to track it down. Maybe it's too late in the evening to figure the answer out, so I turn to the excellent readers here. I have the following bit of JSON data that I am pulling out of a CouchDB record: "{\"description\":\"fdsafsa\",\"order\":\"1\",\"place\":\"22 Plainsman Rd, Mississauga, ON, Canada\",\"lat\":43.5969175,\"lng\":-79.7248744,\"locationDate\":\"03/24/2010\"},{\"description\":\"sadfdsa\",\"order\":\"2\",\"place\":\"50 Dawnridge Trail, Brampton, ON, Canada\",\"lat\":43.7304774,\"lng\":-79.8055435,\"locationDate\":\"03/26/2010\"}," This data is stored inside a Python dict under the key 'locations' in a dict called 'my_plan'. I want to covert this data from CouchDB into a Python dict so I can do the following in a Django template: {% for location in my_plan.locations %} <tr> <td>{{ location.place }}</td> <td>{{ location.locationDate }}</td> </tr> {% endfor %} I've found lots of info on converting dicts to JSON, but nothing on going back the other way Thanks in advance for the help!
