  A few friends of mine and including me for the past few years have hosted an irc server on one of our dedicated servers. We use it for just personal reasons. We like the aspect of it that it allows private messages and chat rooms. Plus the ability to send/receive files and is cross platform (Linux/Mac/Windows/Mobile). Our domain is about to expire and we are looking to move onto something new. So we are looking for a chat client / server that offers the following: Chatroom (multiple people chatting together in the same box) File transfers Private messages Cross Platform (especially mobile ie: Blackberry and Android) We don't have to host it but that isn't out of the question Logging on the client side (we say a lot of crap and like to go back and quote said crap) SSL/TLS Some sort of encryption some of the stuff said/sent is of a sensitive nature ie: business nature

• Autocorrect for "fat fingers" - MS Word

  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a plug-in for MS Word which can handle key-presses of surrounding keys when typing at speed (rather like iPhone or Android autocorrect)? My use case is in transcribing interviews where I need to type quickly (even with the playback at half speed) - but I don't do this often enough to become a proficient touch typist. I will also be paying close attention to the text produced in subsequent analysis so I have a reasonable expectation that I'll catch any "hilarious" autocorrect errors. Any pointers to plug-ins which work at either a system level or within MS Word would be great. Even in an open source word processor at a pinch, though I'd miss the MS Word environment and my macros. • Dovecot ignoring maximum number of IMAP connections

  I have a single mailbox mail server running Dovecot/Postfix and I have two IMAP clients, Thunderbird on the PC and K9 on Android. I keep on receiving this error in my logs even after I change the 'mail_max_userip_connections' variable to 50. puppet dovecot: imap-login: Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections=10): user=<[email protected]>, method=PLAIN, rip=62.242.90.2, lip=198.29.31.229, TLS Why does it say that it is set to 10 in the log? Is that hardcoded? grep -r "mail_max_userip_connections" /etc/dovecot /etc/dovecot/conf.d/20-managesieve.conf: #mail_max_userip_connections = 10 /etc/dovecot/conf.d/20-pop3.conf: #mail_max_userip_connections = 3 /etc/dovecot/conf.d/20-imap.conf: mail_max_userip_connections = 50 I've restarted dovecot after making the changes but this error is still logged and I can't access the mailbox. Can anyone help me understand why I can't seem to raise the maximum limit?

• Exchange 2003 ActiveSync fine but GAL lookups not working

  We have Exchange 2003 SP2 and use ActiveSync for our mobile devices (iOS and sever Android versions). Everything works except for GAL lookups and we've confirmed that the devices and client versions we are trying it on are supposed to support it. The symptom is different depending on the client, but there is never an error. In a nutshell, lookups return no results. This was working previously and we aren't sure what has changed. Are there logs in Exchange or IIS that will allow me to see GAL lookup transactions? Could it be a GAL permissions issue? (No issues with GAL in Outlook) Could it have been caused by upgrading our DCs to 2008 and increasing the forest/domain functional levels?

• How to boot from a flash drive OS using VirtualBox?

  I have two flash drive, one with Slax installed and another for Android x86 Live installed, but they do not boot in my laptop (in my work they boot perfectly). I can boot from some live CDs/DVDs or its ISO files using VirtualBox, but I cannot do it for live flash drives - I put the flash drives and start a VirtualBox without any virtual HD, but VirtualBox does not recognize them as boot options, as it does for CDs/DVDs. Any ideas? Any alternatives if VirtualBox does not support it? Edit1: I'm using Windows (Windows 7) but I would like to know how to do it in Linux (Ubuntu, for example) too.

• How to create a virtual input in windows from an audio stream

  Great to find this forum full of knowledge. I was wondering if anyone knew of an application or other work around to create a virtual input device in windows. I have a IP cam app on my android phone, that I would like to use for skype webcam. It comes with a port for getting the video feed into skype, and that works great. However, the only audio available, is a OGG stream. Both video and audio work great with media players such as VLC etc, but ot with skype, since skype only works with windows input devices. Is there such software outthere, in which I could simply name my audio stream address, and pipe that to a virtual input device to allow skype to find it?

• Can MS Exchange provide a solution for multiple domains?

  Is it possible to have an Exchange Server solution that allows for multiple email domains? I would like to make use of push email but also want to retain the scheduling features of Outlook/Exchange integration. The only problem is I use multiple business domains and need to be able to respond from each of them from Outlook and my Smartphone (iOS or Android).   Many desktop software (VLC, MPC) and have an option to 'zoom in' , 'crop black bars', or crop to a specific aspect ratio. How can we do this in Fullscreen on Youtube or other flash Video sites? I am the viewer, NOT the video's creator/publisher. iOS Can do this (double tap to zoom, which removes black bars, zoom depth not configurable). afaik, Desktop computers (and android devices), cannot do this on the fly. The only 'workaround' I've found is F11 and zooming of the entire web page - basically a fake full screen and zooming the web page beyond the screen size. Use Case: watching 4:3 flash videos from the web on a widescreen monitor. Looking for all creative solutions, including any software that accesses YouTube without using a web browser.

• Is there a way to enable metro on a 1024x600 netbook?

  Windows 8 Consumer Preview works great on my 1024x600 netbook but, for some strange reason, Microsoft decided to provide its Metro interface only to 1024x768 and up screens. "Strange" because Android can work with as little as 240x320 screens, and I know that Microsoft is presumably targeting smartphones, too, in its upcoming Windows 8. The interface itself is there with all the panels etc. but when one of the rectangles is pressed, Windows 8 just refuses to launch any application (even Internet Explorer), except for Windows Explorer. Looks to me like this isn't a real hardware limitation but some arbitrary flag set in the registry. Is there any way or tweak to enable the Metro interface on 1024x600 screen?

• Netbeans: Install/Activate/Uninstall/Deactivate plugins buttons disabled

  I recently installed Netbeans 6.9 on a new computer. I went to install the NB Android plugin, which I have on another computer, but I found most of the functionality of the plugins window disabled. The install, uninstall, activate, and deactivate buttons are grayed out. I have included images at the bottom. This hasn't happened to me before, and searching Google hasn't turned up anything useful. I thought it might have been a permission problem so I tried running Netbeans with gksudo but that didn't help. I also thought it might have been something wonky with the Ubuntu Software Center install, so I uninstalled that one, and downloaded Netbeans from the main site and I installed it in my home directory, but it does the same thing. • How to kill volume when headphones pulled out

  I often use headphones in order to listen to music in work time. However my chair tends to occasionally have the tendency to yank the headphone cable from my laptop. Now with my Android phone this wouldn't be a problem as the music will automatically stop playing. However, Windows does not kill the volume and instead re-routes the sound to my laptop internal speaker system. Aside from turning off my laptop speakers - is there a small utility available which serves my purpose of killing the volume so my work associates aren't inflicted with erroneous musical tastes?

  I set my company exchange mailbox in Windows 8.1 mail. (outsite). Everything works fine, but after i start the Windows 8.1 mail i get event with id 529 in the security log continously. Packet loss does work fine for locally generated traffic, just not for traffic coming in over the network that's being NATed. Any ideas how to sort this out?

  we are looking into building a commercial vod service and I'm doing research on the subject. We need the video to be protected with DRM so users cant rip/copy (i realise its mostly useless but the lawyers demand it from us) and the server solution to be scalable and able to distrubute content in hd to a high number of clients. Besides, we would need to be able to develop a player integrated with the payment system, so users that havent bought access would for example only see the first 30 seconds of video and then have the playback interrupted, or only be able to watch video for 72h after payment. Also it would be nice if we could distribute video to mobile platforms like android/wp8/ios but thats not a priority at the moment. I have zero experience on that topic so I would greatly appreciate any feedback or giving me stuff to read about like protocols or key phrases i should know. Thanks

  I've got a set of RewriteCond rules that test for various mobile devices and then set environment variables like "env=device:.iphone" or "env=device:.smartphone" if the useragent matches an iPhone or Android device. • postfix relay access denied from some IPs

  This is driving me nuts. I have Postfix/Dovecot set up on Centos 6 VPS for my emails. I can send and receive emails without any problems on my outlook (home broadband), on my Android phone (3G connection), however when I set up exactly the same email account on Outlook at my friends house I'm getting bouncebacks when I'm trying to send email (receiving works fine): 554 5.7.1 : Relay access denied Now if it wasn't working at all I'd understand, but why is it working on several internet connections, but not everywhere? We forward dyndns address 443 to local server ip 443 port. mycompany.dyndns.org:443 -- server.mycompany.local:443 In android phone i can check my mails with Outlook Active Snyc. From remote machine i can check my mails in owa (https://mycompany.dyndns.org/exchange) But i can't set up outlook 2013 to remote connect. I installed server.mycompany.local to remote machine trusted cert container, but i got error message: "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 10)" Is it possible to connect exchange, via dnydns? Whats the problem? Thank you

• Can't access LAN computers with SSH

  I got a new Windows 7 machine, and was using VNC,SSH etc to connect to my Ubuntu machine, and it worked fine previously. Now it doesn't work if I use the machine's hostname or local IP, but if I use the DynDNS name, it works. I can also access it from my Android phone using the local hostname over SSH. If I try to connect with SSH to the hostname, it says "Host does not exist". VNC says "Failed to get server address". NX says "no address associated with name", and I don't see it in Windows' "Network" folder. I've rebooted everything. I've turned off Windows firewall. It was working fine a few days ago, but now it's not. How do I figure out what's blocking it?

• Dial-in VPN Routing issue when on 192.168.x.x network range

  I'm not an expert on networks but have a small office on the 192.168.x.x. range which is managed by a vigor (2800) router. I have enabled the VPN dial-in option on the router so I can get to the server on 192.168.1.100 which works fine from my macbook when i'm NOT on a local network with that is on the 192.168.x.x range. e.g. works fine when I tether over my Android smartphone but when I try & connect when on my home network, it connects, I can access the router (192.168.1.1) but cannot access 192.168.1.100 - traceroute doesn't hop via 192.168.1.1 I have enabled "send all traffic over VPN connection but again, not joy... Feels like the osx platform isn't routing the traffic out to the vpn endpoint as the destination address is on the local subnet but expect it would be. This work fine on a windows PC on the same home network. Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

  I use Adobe Illustrator extensively for mobile development. For example, for Android app, I have many illustrations with different densities and sizes. I use many effects such as outer glow, round corners and such. However, sometimes, when I close the .ai file and re-open it later, I found all my objects expanded. Effects are expanded. For example, the round corner effect is now expanded and I cannot re-size any object. I am using a MacBook Pro. I am suspecting both Time Machine and Dropbox. As much as I can recall, it also appears with CS6 version, not CS5.
