  • Using embedded standard HTML forms with ASP.NET

    I have a standard aspx page with which I need to add another standard HTML form into and have it submit to another location (external site), however whenever I press the submit button the page seems to do a post back rather than using the sub-forms action url. A mock up of what the form relationships is below.   • Surprising results with .NET multi-theading algorithm

    Hi, I've recently wrote a C# console time tabling algorithm that is based on a combination of a genetic algorithm with a few brute force routines thrown in. The initial results were promising but I figured I could improve the performance by splitting the brute force routines up to run in parallel on multi processor architectures. To do this I used the well documented Producer/Consumer model (as documented in this fantastic article http://www.albahari.com/threading/part2.aspx#_ProducerConsumerQWaitHandle). I changed my code to create one thread per logical processor during the brute force routines. The performance gains on my work station were very pleasing. I am running Windows XP on the following hardware: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.33 GHz 3.49 GB RAM Initial tests indicated average performance gains of approx 40% when using 4 threads. The next step was to deploy the new multi-threading version of the algorithm to our higher spec UAT server. Here is the spec of our UAT server: Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise x64 8 cpu (Quad-Core) AMD Opteron 2.70 GHz 255 GB RAM After running the first round of tests we were all extremely surprised to find that the algorithm actually runs slower on the high spec W2003 server than on my local XP work station! In fact the tests seem to indicate that it doesn't matter how many threads are generated (tests were ran with the app spawning between 2 to 32 threads). The algorithm always runs significantly slower on the UAT W2003 server? How could this be? Surely the app should run faster on a 8 cpu (Quad-Core) than my 2 Quad work station? Why are we seeing no performance gains with the multi-threading on the W2003 server whilst the XP workstation tests show gains of up to 40%? Any help or pointers would be appreciated. Regards Myles

  • How to register assemblies using Windsor in ASP.NET MVC

    This is how my project looks: TestMvc (my web project) has a reference to the DomainModel.Core assembly where my interfaces and business objects reside. The class that implements the interfaces in DomainModel.Core is in a different assembly called DomainModel.SqlRepository; the reason behind it is that if I just want to create a repository for Oracle I just have to deploy the new dll, change the web.config and be done with it. When I build the solution, if I look at the \bin folder of my TestMvc project, there is no reference to the DomainModel.SqlRepository, which makes sense because it's not being reference anywhere. Problem arises when my windsor controller factory tries to resolve that assembly, since it's not on the \bin directory. So is there a way to point windsor to a specific location, without adding a reference to that assembly? My web.config looks like this: <component id="UserService" service="TestMvc.DomainModel.Core.Interface, TestMvc.DomainModel.Core" type="TestMvc.DomainModel.SqlRepository.Class, TestMvc.DomainModel.SqlRepository" lifestyle="PerWebRequest" /> There's many ways around this, like copying the dll as part of the build, add the reference to the project so it will get copied to the \bin folder or install it on the GAC and add an assembly reference in the web.config. I guess my question is specific to Windsor, to see if I can give the location of my assembly and it will resolve it.

    I have a web service that I call via ajax that requires the user to be logged in. in each method I want to check if the user is logged in and send a 403 code if they are not, however when I call a Response.End() I get the error "Thread was being aborted". What should I call instead?     I have written a small XML validator, that takes in an XML file and an XML schema and validates the XML files against that schema.   • Handling button click in ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM

    I have a View in which the user is able to upload a file to the server. In this view I also have 2 buttons: one to Upload a file and other to Download the last file imported. In my Controller I created 2 action methods: Import and Export. How could I manage to redirect each button click to the proper action method in my Controller? I have tried Html.ActionLink: <%= Html.ActionLink("Upload", "Import", "OracleFile")%> <%= Html.ActionLink("Download", "Export", "OracleFile")%> Html.ActionLink didn't do the trick. The action links were taking me to the right Action methods but they were generating a GET request. This way Request.Files.Count = 0. I need a POST request.

  • Working with DataBinding and Page_Load in ASP.NET MVP

    I'm using WebForms MVP to create some simple reporting applications. Most of these applications consist of a few search criteria inputs and a ComponentArt datagrid that I'm populating with data from the database. Most of the markup is in a UserControl, which is in a content page with a master page. My problem is that the control's Page_Load event is firing before the control events that caused the postback in the first place. Basically, the user clicks the search button, and Page_Load is fired BEFORE Search_Click. This is messing with the databinding scheme I've been using. So that's the question: Why is my Page_Load event firing before the event handler, and what can I do about it? I don't THINK this problem is related to WebForms MVP or ComponentArt, but obviously I could be wrong. Thanks.

  • Editing a labels text value through JavaScript in VB ASP.NET

    I have a simple form containing two text boxes, I am attempting to apply some validation to the first text box using JavaScript. This is the first time I have attempted this and am having some trouble. I have a label beside the text box stating an error, this labels visibility property is set to False. I wish the labels visibility to turn true if the text box is empty when the user loses focus. For this I have used the onBlur option within the tags of the text box. It then calls the JavaScript function and should set the label to Visible but it does not. I have tested to see if it is entering the function by using an alert instead and that works. The problem seems to be trying to alter the visibility property of the label.     Ok, i can use jeditable to edit-in-place some content on a page and the content will be saved to a database. But whats the best way to re get that text-content from db to show into a place holder? p id="paraNo34" class="editable" --What i will write here so that it will get content from a db's table: [Content], where id=="paraNo34". /p The problem is if i will use some hard coded text like p id="paraNo34" class="editable" --Some text here /p I will able to edit-in-place using jeditable but when i will refresh page it will show the same "Some text here" as its not getting data from db.

  • ASP.net getting NT user name returns administrator?

    This doesnt seem to be an issue with windows XP. But I have an end user (my boss!!!) using windows 7 64 bit... In one of our apps we are grabbing the end user user name via: HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString.Substring (HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString.IndexOf("\") + 1).ToLower For me it is returning the correct user name for instance "jhermiz". When my boss tries getting into the app, it thinks he is Administrator??? Does anyone know of any alternative or why this might be happening? The reason this is an issue is because I use that user name to pull other information... This is visual studio 2003.

    I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this kind of behaviour is possible in C# 4.0 I have an object hierarchy I'd like to keep strongly typed. Something like this class ItemBase {} class ItemType<T> where T : ItemBase { T Base { get; set; } } class EquipmentBase : ItemBase {} class EquipmentType : ItemType<EquipmentBase> {} What I want to be able to do to have something like this ItemType item = new EquipmentType(); And I want item.Base to return type ItemBase. Basically I want to know if it's smart enough to strongly typed generic to a base class without the strong typing. Benefit of this being I can simply cast an ItemType back to an EquipmentType and get all the strongly typedness again. I may be thinking about this all wrong...

  • Use ASP.Net server control code generation from .ashx

    I'm trying to take an existing bunch of code that was previously on a full .aspx page, and do the same stuff in a .ashx handler. The code created an HtmlTable object, added rows and cells to those rows, then added that html table the .aspx's controls collection, then added it to a div that was already on the page. I am trying to keep the code in tact but instead of putting the control into a div, actually generate the html and I'll return that in a big chunk of text that can be called via AJAX client-side. HtmlTable errors out when I try to use the InnerHtml property (says it isn't supported), and when I try RenderControl, after making first a TextWriter and next an HtmlTextWriter object, I get the error that Page cannot be null. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions?
