  • iPad title bars. Navbars or toolbars?

    - by Squeegy
I see a bunch of apps for iPad with really cool title bars. These seem to be a combination of a navigation bar and a toolbar. They usually have a back button and a title as well as men other buttons. And a navbar only supports a left item, a right item and and title view. And the toolbar does not really support back buttons or titles. So how do I implement these rich navbars with many buttons on my UINavigationController driven application?

  • iOS App with OCMaps crashes when using the phone in chinese Language

    - by Pedro Morte Rolo
I've been given the task of doing maintenance to a iOS application that uses OCMapView. I have just realized that when using the application in chinese language, it blows up when the selector doClustering is invoked on a OCMapView instance. This is for me a very puzzling behaviour, because I thought that regardless of the environment language, the OCMapView class should allways have the same methods. Am I wrong? Do you have any recomentations about how to find a solution to this problem? Thank you, Pedro

  • Apple Push Notifications With Foreign Accent Characters Not Receiving

    - by confeng
    I'm sending push notifications and when the message contains foreign characters (Turkish in my case) like I, s, ç, g... The message does not arrive to devices. Here's my code: $message = 'THIS is push'; $passphrase = 'mypass'; $ctx = stream_context_create(); stream_context_set_option($ctx, 'ssl', 'local_cert', 'MyPemFile.pem'); stream_context_set_option($ctx, 'ssl', 'passphrase', $passphrase); // Open a connection to the APNS server $fp = stream_socket_client( 'ssl://gateway.push.apple.com:2195', $err, $errstr, 60, STREAM_CLIENT_CONNECT|STREAM_CLIENT_PERSISTENT, $ctx); if (!$fp) exit("Failed to connect: $err $errstr" . PHP_EOL); echo 'Connected to Apple service. ' . PHP_EOL; // Encode the payload as JSON $body['aps'] = array( 'alert' => $message, 'sound' => 'default' ); $payload = json_encode($body); $result = 'Start'.PHP_EOL; $tokenArray = array('mytoken'); foreach ($tokenArray as $item) { // Build the binary notification $msg = chr(0) . pack('n', 32) . pack('H*', $item) . pack('n', strlen($payload)) . $payload; // Send it to the server $result = fwrite($fp, $msg, strlen($msg)); if (!$result) echo 'Failed message'.PHP_EOL; else echo 'Successful message'.PHP_EOL; } // Close the connection to the server fclose($fp); I have tried encoding $message variable with utf8_encode() but the message received as "THÝS is push". And other ways like iconv() didn't work for me, some of them cropped Turkish characters, some didn't receive at all. I also have header('content-type: text/html; charset: utf-8'); and <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> in my page. I don't think the problem appears while I set the value but maybe with pack() function. Any ideas to solve this without replacing characters with English?

  • Block declared variable visible outside?

    - by fuzzygoat
If I declare a variable within a block (see below) is there a way to specify that its visible outside the block if need be? if(turbine_RPM > 0) { int intResult = [sensorNumber:1]; NSNumber *result = [NSNumber numberWithInt:intResult]; } return result; or is the way just to declare outside the block scope? NSNumber *result; if(turbine_RPM > 0) { int intResult = [sensorNumber:1]; result = [NSNumber numberWithInt:intResult]; } return result; many thanks gary

  • Will pool the connection help threading in sqlite (and how)?

    - by mamcx
I currently use a singleton to acces my database (see related question) but now when try to add some background processing everything fall apart. I read the sqlite docs and found that sqlite could work thread-safe, but each thread must have their own db connection. I try using egodatabase that promise a sqlite wrapper with thread safety but is very buggy, so I return to my old FMDB library I start to see how use it in multi-thread way. Because I have all code with the idea of singleton, change everything will be expensive (and a lot of open/close connections could become slow), so I wonder if, as the sqlite docs hint, build a pooling for each connection will help. If is the case, how make it? How know wich connection get from the pool (because 2 threads can't share the connection)? I wonder if somebody already use sqlite in multu-threading with NSOperation or similar stuff, my searching only return "yeah, its possible" but let the details to my imagination...

  • UITableViewController's TableView becomes NULL

    - by Travis
I have UITableViewController (initiated by the Navigation-based app project template). I am overriding loadView and putting up an alternative view (w/ a UILabel and UIActivityIndicator) to display while the table's contents is loading. When the loading is done, I remove the loading view and try to display the table view but I see that it's NULL. So in the simulator I see my loading view and then when the loading's done the view disappears but my tableview never comes. I'm confused what the difference is between self.view and self.tableView in my UITableViewController and how I can exchagn

  • InApp Purchase supported content types

    - by Chandan Shetty SP
In InApp purchase guide i saw these are the supported content types - Digital Books,Virtual poker chips current games, In-game tool or accessory, etc... And non-supported - Physical books, Virtual poker chips for other games, In-game credits for virtual goods, etc... I didn't understand "In-game credits for virtual goods" what is this? In my game i am using some credits to skip certain levels, if credits are not available user can buy credits through inApp purchase then he can skip level... Is it valid supported content type for In-App purchase?

  • Interface Builder caching bad data (voodoo)

    - by Ryan Townshend
Sometimes IB will hold onto old or bad references, and I cannot seem to remove or edit them. EDIT I have made this a wiki question with the intention of gathering more data on the phenomenon. Answers involving situations where other coders have encountered this are welcome. This happened to me again last night with a table controller. When I created a spike project to try and reproduce the error, the system worked the way I anticipated. Then back in the actual project the bad behavior continued, even if I remove the xib file and all controllers involved. Creating a whole new project with none of the original (problematic) xib and nib files worked correctly. This question is not about the specifics of this incident but about this type of incident in IB. Does anyone know more about this type of bad IB behaviour, and possibly a more stylish way to to eliminate it than nuking the project? Note, removing the offending IB files and recreating them in the same project has not solved this for me in the past, only whole new projects. Answers regarding examples of when/how this glitch has been observed/created are welcome as well.

  • Crash on replacing map annotations

    - by Alwin
Solved it, see below code I'm trying to replace annotations on my MapView depending on the distance between user location and annotation. The annotations are getting replaced like they should, but when I touch te mapview my app crashes. This is de code I have so far: NSMutableArray *tempArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (id object in self.mapAnnotations) { if([object isKindOfClass:[ClosedAnnotation class]]) { ClosedAnnotation *ann = (ClosedAnnotation *)object; CLLocation *tempLocation = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:ann.coordinate.latitude longitude:ann.coordinate.longitude]; double distance = [self.currentLocation getDistanceFrom: tempLocation] / 1000; [tempLocation release]; if(distance <= 1.0){ [mapView removeAnnotation:object]; OpenAnnotation *openAnnotation = [[OpenAnnotation alloc] initWithLatitude:ann.coordinate.latitude longitude:ann.coordinate.longitude imageSrc:[ann getImageSrcForAnnotation] title:ann.title tekst:[ann getTextForAnnotation] imageSize:[ann getSizeForImage] username:[ann getUserNameForAnnotation] usertext:[ann getUserTextForAnnotation]]; [mapView addAnnotation:openAnnotation]; [tempArray addObject:openAnnotation]; [openAnnotation release]; } else { [tempArray addObject:object]; } } else if([object isKindOfClass:[OpenAnnotation class]]){ OpenAnnotation *ann = (OpenAnnotation *)object; CLLocation *tempLocation = [[[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:ann.coordinate.latitude longitude:ann.coordinate.longitude] autorelease]; double distance = [self.currentLocation getDistanceFrom: tempLocation] / 1000; [tempLocation release]; if(distance > 1.0){ [mapView removeAnnotation:object]; ClosedAnnotation *closedAnnotation = [[ClosedAnnotation alloc] initWithLatitude:ann.coordinate.latitude longitude:ann.coordinate.longitude imageSrc:[ann getImageSrcForAnnotation] title:ann.title tekst:[ann getTextForAnnotation] imageSize:[ann getSizeForImage] username:[ann getUserNameForAnnotation] usertext:[ann getUserTextForAnnotation]]; [mapView addAnnotation:closedAnnotation]; [tempArray addObject:closedAnnotation]; [closedAnnotation release]; } else { [tempArray addObject:object]; } } } [self.mapAnnotations removeAllObjects]; [self.mapAnnotations addObjectsFromArray:tempArray]; [tempArray release]; I solved it by getting rid of the complete "two-class"-structure and handling everything within one annotation class. Works like a charm now.

  • How to do a natural sort on an NSArray?

    - by Cory Imdieke
I've got an array of objects, and I need them sorted by their "title" key. It's currently working, though it's using an ASCII sort instead of a natural sort. The titles are filenames, so they look like this: file1 file2 file3 ... file10 file11 file12 I'm getting, as you would expect: file1 file10 file11 file12 file2 file3 ... Does anyone know if there is a way built-in to the NSArray sorting functionality to get this natural sorting as opposed to the alphabetical sort? I found some generic algorithms, but I was hoping for something built-in...

  • Using memcpy/memset

  • Calling a method on an unitialized object (null pointer)

    - by Florin
What is the normal behavior in Objective-C if you call a method on an object (pointer) that is nil (maybe because someone forgot to initialize it)? Shouldn't it generate some kind of an error (segmentation fault, null pointer exception...)? If this is normal behavior, is there a way of changing this behavior (by configuring the compiler) so that the program raises some kind of error / exception at runtime? To make it more clear what I am talking about, here's an example. Having this class: @interface Person : NSObject { NSString *name; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *name; - (void)sayHi; @end with this implementation: @implementation Person @synthesize name; - (void)dealloc { [name release]; [super dealloc]; } - (void)sayHi { NSLog(@"Hello"); NSLog(@"My name is %@.", name); } @end Somewhere in the program I do this: Person *person = nil; //person = [[Person alloc] init]; // let's say I comment this line person.name = @"Mike"; // shouldn't I get an error here? [person sayHi]; // and here [person release]; // and here

  • Convert XCode view-based app to navigation-based app?

    - by Wally
Newbie question: is there an easy way to convert a view-based app to a navigation-based app? I have an existing app sample that was created as a view-based app, and need to be able to create additional viewcontrollers that can be nested. The app is currently using presentModalViewController calls and nibs to display windows. Trying to change these to pushViewController calls results in the views not being displayed. So I'm assuming it's because the pushViewController needs to use a Navigation view. Thanks in advance!

  • Dynamically loading hi-res images into UIScrollView

    - by Jeff
I've been looking into creating a gallery mode in my application. The functionality will be identical to the built in Photos App. Here's the flow: 1. You touch on a thumbnail and ... 2. a modal view displays a large detail version of the image 3. You have the ability to scroll horizontally through all the images in the gallery while in this modal view I'm stuck on step 3. How do I dynamically load hi res images into a scroll view? I understand I need to set the contentSize for the the scrollView but how do I do that when I've only selected and loaded one image? What delegate methods do I need to implement and what does the heavy lifting look like? Thanks in advance!

  • How to check whether Application is Busy or not

    - by Chandan Shetty SP
Hi, I am using "networkActivityIndicatorVisible" in UIApplication for showing network spinning gear in status bar if my WebView( I am setting "networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES" in "webViewDidStartLoad" and reseting in "webViewDidFinishLoad" ) is busy. It works fine for single UIWebView. For Multiple UIWebViews i have used a "stack" to trace which webview is busy and which one is idle and it is working fine. My question is there is any way to know whether an application is busy or idle in application level(in UIApplication) instead of checking each webview so i can remove stack. Thanks.
