  • Can't get nmap to work under Windows 7 64 bit

    I'm trying to install and run the nmap tool to test my server, but it keeps saying Note: Host seems down. If it is really up, but blocking our ping probes, try -P0 and showing all the server ports are closed. Which is not true - the server is up and has lots of open ports. Any ideas? UPDATE: Just to clarify - the server can be pinged and port-scanned fine by other programs. It's juts nmap that does not work. Even "google.com" seems to be down for nmap.

    I recently purchased an Intel D2700 MUD motherboard and I cannot find drivers for the Win7 x64 integrated graphics (Intel GMA 3650 aka PowerVR sgs545). The accompanying CD contains Win7 x32 version only. When I run it I got an error: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. I tried to use online utility Intel Driver Update Utility Graphics. I used Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer without success. First, UAC prompt appear, and then endlessly spinning progress-bar with text "Analyzing computer...". The text in UAC prompt is: Program file name: System Requirements Lab Verified publisher: Husdawg, LLC I downloaded this utility (intel_srldetect_4.5.5.0) and started it from my hard disk. I got an error: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file: C:\Users\Loom\Downloads\SystemRequirementsLab_intel_4.5.5.0.msi Standard VGA driver works for this video card but without hardware acceleration: Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on. Where I can get appropriate driver?

  • Windows XP, have to use ctrl+alt+delete to log on as local administrator

    Hey, I have a weird issue, a user was was logging into a laptop using the local admin account which was working fine. I had to create another account on the system, which was also an admin account, when this happened the 'administrator' account disappeared from the 'choose an account to login with' screen. A quick workaround is available, if the user presses ctrl+alt+delete it brings you to the screen where you can type in the username and password, so by manually typing 'administrator' it can log in. Normally this would be easily fixed, I figured the admin account had somehow been disabled from the local system, but i checked all settings and it is setup fine. The laptop is not part of a domain, so I used the management console to delete the new account and all that succeeded in doing was making the 'choose an account to log in with' screen display no accounts to choose. So far I see nothing else to fix it, the option to change the default logon screen to style where you type the username and password also seems to be missing. any ideas?

    I have installed vmware toolbox in ubuntu (guest OS). I tried to share a location from the settings of the virtual machine. But when I click Ok, the following error in thrown in the host (Win 7) OS. "Unable to update run-time folder sharing status: Unknown error." The location is not showing up in /mnt/ What could be the reason? P.S I have vmhgfs process running in my Ubuntu VM. I was following this method.

    printer 1 connected to the desktop printer 2 connected to the same desktop that desktop is connected via Cat 5 to a wireless router a notebook is connected to that same router via WiFi The desktop Control Panel has just been reconfigured to share printers. (I assume this means that the desktop will now allow a notebook coming through the router to be able to access the two printers that are presently hooked up via the desktop--am I correct? Is that what it means?) The desktop can still print to either printer. It is presently okay. This notebook/printer relationship is a new configuration. The notebook, however, can't print at all (yet it can access the internet just fine). Any suggestions for it to be able to access the printers and be able to print via the desktop via the router? Thank you for any assistance.

    I was trying to find where Electrum stored its wallet files, so I went to C:\ and entered wallet.dat in the search bar (top right), which is supposed to search through the entire C drive (right?), but it didn't find anything. Later, I manually found the wallet.dat file in C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Electrum_SysFiles\1.1\C_\ElectrumPY. Searching for wallet.dat in C:\ still comes up empty. Why is this?

  • Windows 7 'Unidentified Network'

    So my internet was working last night before I went to bed and woke up to a computer that is showing unidentified network. I have tried multiple ways of fixing it. > route delete 0.0.0.0 > uninstalling drivers - restart - reinstall from downloaded drivers > ipconfig /release - /renew > static IP > speed & duplex from auto negotiation to 1.0gbps full duplex > and also changed my network address to no value to 1234567890ab (not in that order) nothing seems to work. I have Comcast internet and when I connect the computer to the modem it works perfectly. but when I connect it to my router again, Unidentified network. I know my router isn't faulty, because my macbook pro, server, NAS, iPhones, and iPads are still working. I have also tried moving the port on the router, still same problem. my router is a: Cisco Small Business RVS4000 motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3

  • Windows 7 Taskbar doesn't remember configuration

    Hi all... I have my taskbar on Win7 all customized. I have it at the top of the screen, and i have the address bar, desktop toolbar, and a custom folder toolbar all turned on. I have it set to two rows, and have the taskbar and desktop on one row and the address bar and custom folder on the second row. When i shutdown then restart my computer it remembers that i have the taskbar at the top of the screen, but it does not remember the way i had the various bars organized, and it just makes it a single row with the bars all mushed together on one row. Anyone else had this/know how to fix it? Running Win7 Ultimate x64.

    I am trying to install VS TS 2008 on W7 Ultimate (64bit), but I have run into errors during the setup. Please take note that I have tried to mount the iso to a virtual drive, and also extracted the iso contents to a local folder. Both methods have failed and produce the same error log below.     I'm not sure if the mkv file is corrupted, but when it is opened with VLC player, VLC loads up and displays nothing. Can't even close VLC after that. And also, VLC is running with 50% of the CPU.   • Windows server 2008 - Access Based Enumeration (ABE) not working correctly

    I have a folder shared with permissions of only one user account, admin account and admin group having access to it, but when I open the shared area from a second user account which dose not have access to it, the folder is still visible to the second account despite ABE being enabled on it and all other parent directories/folders and even the the drive. The user can't access the shared folder (which is what I want), but I'd like the folder to also be invisible to that user, just to make it look cleaner and theirs no confusion between what they can access and what they cannot. How would I stop the folder appearing for users who don't have permissions to use it? Thanks in advanced. EDIT: I've just added the second user account to the permissions list but denied it access so that the account definitely has no permissions to access it in any way but that's still not hiding it.

  • Mouse Error Code 24. Windows 7

    I've had the same mouse for a while, and it's been working fine until one day, it started giving me a message about a device not working properly. I tried updating the drivers, and re-installing, I even deleted old drivers in case my computer should be a little confused. It never made a difference, and my mouse seemed to be working just fine despite getting the permanent error in my device manager, I looked it up several times online, but I never found anything I could actually use, when I go to official websites, I always get the same response "plug in so so into a different place - drivers - install silverlight before you can watch this tutorial, try it on a different machine". so I gave up on that. But now is where I have a real problem, lately, my little strange error evolved into a fullblown Error 24, and my mouse is starting to turn on and off randomely, especially when it is being used, but I do hear it go "badum..dadum" when I'm off doing something else. when I looked up error code 24, I really didn't find much other than it meaning: Code 24 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Cause The device is installed incorrectly. The problem could be a hardware failure, or a new driver might be needed. Devices stay in this state if they have been prepared for removal. After you remove the device, this error disappears. But, I have tried uninstalling the device entirely several times, and it'll go right back to its previous state with error 24, and turning on and off randomely. what do I do? I cannot afford taking it to a repair place, I can't really afford a new mouse either, I refuse to buy cheap ones as I am a gamer, in need of more than 3 buttons, and a good grip is important. Could there possibly be some confusion in the registry? I do remember having gotten some early problems after I converted my vista to windows7. But I hardly dare going in there unless I'm 100% certain of what I'm going for, and I can honestly say I am at a loss here. Edit: it is a USB mouse we're talking about here.   • Spoof MAC address in Windows 7: Bypass

    I am trying to spoof the MAC address of my new Win7 laptop. To do so I tried specifying an alternate value from the Device Manager which took no effect. I also tried from the registry, as per other threads here, to no avail. Interestingly I also found the registry contained a path 000X\Ndi\params\NetworkAddress\default REG_SZ, but changing that had no effect either :( I can only guess I share the same issue here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2096480 as the wireless adaptor is the same brand bundled with the same operating system. So my question is - is there anything better I can do to achieve a spoofed physical address than rollback the drivers to some older version?

  • Replace single character in windows filenames

    I have a Win2k3 server that has a whole bunch of filenames that need renamed. Basically, I just need all - (dashes) replaced with _ (underscores), no matter where they are in the string. Assume that there are no duplicates. I can do this on my mac with a little script but the files are too large and crazy to transfer to my mac, rename, then go back to the server. Would love to do this in a command shell and not have to download a renamer or any add'l software. Thanks!

  • HP Pavilion dv3 volume control display driver on Windows 7

    I've recently bought an HP Pavilion dv3-2150ep and I'm having a hard time getting the volume control display to work as expected. The control is a back-lit touch-sensitive bar above the keyboard. Now the buttons to turn the volume up and down actually do it, but the lightning is not changing at all. The mute button does change color when toggled. I'm not sure if I'm missing any drivers here (I've installed all of those on the HP support page that seem to have something to do with sound and/or display) or if I have to activate this somewhere. Any ideas?

  • Routing traffic to a specific NIC in Windows

    I added a 10GB NIC to a SQL server which is connected over to a backend storage using ISCSI. I would like to force traffic going to a certain IP address/host to use the 10gb NIC, while all other traffic should continue to use the 1GB NIC. The 10gb nic is configured using a private network. So far I have added a entry in the host file to the host I want to go over the private network and when I ping the host, it does return the private IP, but I'm still finding traffic going to the 1gb pipe. How can I force all traffic to this host to use the 10gb interface? Would the best approach be a static route? 160.205.2.3 is the IP to the 1gb host, I actually want to the traffic to route over an interface assigned 172.31.3.2, which is also defined as Interface 22. That said, would this work? route add 160.205.2.3 mask 255.255.255.255 172.31.3.2 if 22
