• How do I convert a windows forms app from C# to VB ?

  I've been converting all kinds of other things, classes, interfaces, ASP.NET MVC apps, and WPF applications, but I am stumped as to how to convert a windows forms application, as the whole structure seems to be different. Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle this problem? I see essentially that you have two files, Form1.cs and Form1.Designer.cs. Literally translating them from C# to VB doesn't work because of some intricacies or other of how Visual Basic works. I think you /might/ be able to convert Form1.cs in this way, as it's just a constructor plus event handlers, but the designer contains the references to the controls etc. and I am not sure how to go about doing that. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.

  I saw a post on Oslo about making us obsolete. I just happened to listen to the latest Deep Fried Episode with Brian Noyes. They were talking about SharePoint and Windows Workflow and how the "dream" of Windows Workflow is to let mere Business Analyst Drag and Drop their way to a functioning service. I am a newbie dotnet developer, and afraid that by the time I get to Consulting "Level" my skills would be obsolete. Should I abandon learning basic skills and just learn how to work with Frameworks and Packaged applications such as SAP, SharePoint, BizTalk. Am I wasting time trying to learn Expression Trees and Func of T's?

• Using jsAnim.js

  I've been trying to set up a basic test animation using jsanim.js and using their example site to set up my html, css and js. However, I just can't figure it out (not a developer...designer!) and there isn't just a simple html, css, js file to download showing how to say animate a DIV left to right. The examples of how the library works are clear but I'm lacking something in the set up and looking at their source on the site is nuts...too much going on in there. • Accessing the Identity object in a MVC repository

  Hi, I have a pretty generic repository that does basic CRUD for many of my business entities. The entities enherit form a generic object that has a few fields I maintain for all objects. eg. ModifiedBy, CreatedBy, CreatedDate, ModifiedDate. These fields ModifiedBy and CreatedBy will always be set before any update/save. My questions is: Is there any way to gain access to the Identity object from my MVC web application in my repositories? I was hoping to set the modifiedby to the identity user for any update in one shot?? Best Regard, Rod

• 3D Math: Calculate Bank (Roll) angle from Look and Up orthogonal vectors

  I hope this is the proper location to ask this question which is the same as this one, but expressed as pure math instead of graphically (at least I hope I translated the problem to math correctly). Considering: two vectors that are orthogonal: Up (ux, uy, uz) and Look (lx, ly, lz) a plane P which is perpendicular to Look (hence including Up) Y1 which is the projection of Y (vertical axis) along Look onto P Question: what is the value of the angle between Y1 and Up? As mathematicians will agree, this is a very basic question, but I've been scratching my head for at least two weeks without being able to visualize how to project Y onto P... maybe now too old for finding solutions to school exercises. I'm looking for the trigonometric solution, not a solution using a matrix. Thanks.

  I have a ul list, with 10 items, and I have a label that displays the selected li text. When I click a button, I need to check the label, versus all the list items to find the matching one, when it finds that I need to assign the corresponding number. I.e. list: Messi Cristiano Zlatan hidden values of list items: www.messi.com www.cronaldo.com www.ibra.com label: Zlatan script (thought)procces: get label text, search list for matching string, get the value of that string. (and if someone could point me in a direction to learn these basic(?) stuff. tried to be as specific as possible, thanks guys!

• Customise a control in dynamics crm

  I've written code that can make a phone dial a number from a function call, that's done and dusted. What I would like to achieve is adding a Dial button to each phone number field on the forms in Dynamics CRM. Eventually this could also create a new phone record fill in the basic details and show it to the user to enter notes and an outcome for the phone call, and perhaps some other workflow bits to schedule the next call. Can I put a custom control on a standard form in place of the standard control. I'm assuming it would have to be an IFrame to an asp.net page, that pulls in the record id, and the field name, looks up the number to show in a text box, and passes the number to the DialNumber function. Hey presto... I assume its not going to be that easy... Has anyone tried this before, what's the process, what are the gotchas?

• Is there a list of language only character regions for UTF-8 somewhere?

  I'm trying to analyze some UTF-8 encoded documents in a way that recognizes different language characters. For my approach to work I need to ignore non-language characters, such as control characters, mathematical symbols etc. Just trying to dissect the basic Latin section of the UTF standard has resulted in multiple regions, with characters like the division symbol being right in the middle of a range of valid Latin characters. Is there a list somewhere that identifies these regions? Or better yet, a Regex that defines the regions or something in C# that can identify the different characters?

  Hi! I am having a hard time on this one, I have a folder over the network with public access (no credential restriction). I am trying to do a File.Exist or Directory.Exist and I keep on having a exception. Can someone tell me the good way to do IO over the network. EDIT 1 FOR DETAILS: if i do execture = \agoodip\Public\test.txt I get the file etc etc In my code it look like a basic Directory.Exist(@"\\agoodip\Public") or File.exist(@"\\agoodip\Public\test.txt") The exception I get is Path not found. EDIT 2 : I am using Silverlight 3, Is there any security pattern to be aware of to lookup file on the network? Thanks!

• why is internet explorer displaying my javascript pagination backwards?

  Here's a version of the code I'm using, stripped down to just the parts that aren't working. This is all written to generate some basic pagination with jQuery. In Chrome/Safari/Moz, I generate see spans, 1,2,3,4,...,etc When I look in IE7/8, I see etc,...,4,3,2,1 The string seems to be concatenating backwards!! This seems very strange to me, because there's not a whole lot going on in the code here, I can't figure out which bit could be causing problems.   What is the best practice for releasing a simple software? Suppose I created a very small simple and useful program or a tool and would like to share it with everyone by uploading it to my web-site. Do I need a license and which one? (I read http://www.gnu.org/ and http://www.fsf.org/ but still cannot decide - there are too many of them.) Do I need to put somewhere a copyright and what is the basic principles of creating "Copyright" string? How can I make a user, who is going to download and install my program, to believe that my program doesn't contain viruses or a malicious code?

• Looking for jQuery slideshow where a user can hide/show a block of text (link, caption)

  I'm looking to implement a fairly basic jQuery slideshow. One that automatically loops through a set number of images. The snag I'm running into is i'd like to have a little icon in the corner of the picture, that when clicked, brings up a transparent black bar across the bottom with some text and perhaps a link. Has anybody come across anything like this?   I would assume that this question would have been asked in different ways already, but I could not find one so posting it. Sorry if its a repetition The basic idea which I am trying to explore is to design a common Ajax framework/API for our application. The main requirement is to have a common framework in the product which every module in the application can call whenever it needs to provide Ajax behavior. We basically have a page based application and not everything would be Ajax for sure. Mostly it will be smaller pieces of work which Ajax will handle. We have used GWT and it works great. But we have some constraints because of which certain areas in the application need to build standard jsp and html pages only I know little bit about dwr and it looks very promising (as even answered by some people). I wanted to know what are the other possible frameworks like dwr which I can evaluate too, before making the decision

• MVC Entity Model not showing my table

  I have a database with multiple tables, and some basic relationships. Here is an example of the problem I am having: My Database: **Org** ID Name etc **Detail1** ID D1name **Org_Detail1** Org_ID Detail1_ID **Detail2** ID D2Name **Org_Detail2** Org_ID Detial1_ID BooleanField My problem is, the Org_detail1 table is not showing up in the entity model, but the Org_Details2 table does. I thought it may have been because the Org_Detail1 table only contains two ID fields that are both primary keys, while the Org_Details2 table contains 2 primary key ID fields as well as a boolean field. If I add a dummy field to Org_detail1 and update it, it still won't show up and wont allow me to add a new entity relating to the Org_Detail1 table. The table won't even show up in the list, but it is listed under the tables. Is there any solution to get this table to appear in my model?

I'd like to evaluate f[x,y] where x runs over the list l1 and y runs over the list l2, and I'd like to do it without having to make all pairs of the form {l1[[i]],l2[[j]]}. (Motivation: I'm trying to implement some basic Haskell programs in Mathematica. In particular, I'd like to be able to code the Haskell program isMatroid::[[Int]]->Bool isMatroid b =and[or[sort(union(xs\\[x])[y]'elem'b|y<-ys]|xs<-b,ys<-b, xs<-x] I think I can do the rest of it, if I can figure out the original question, but I'd like the code to be Haskell-like. • Android: 2D. OpenGl or android.graphics.drawable?

  I'm working with my friend on our first Android game. Basic idea is that every frame the whole surface is redrawn (1 large bitmap) which then sprinkled all over with large number of particles which produces effect of soapy bubbles where there's a pool of about 20 bitmaps which randomly gets picked to produce illusion that all bubbles (between 200 - 300) are all different. The math engine is in C (JNI) and currently all drawing is done using android.graphics package very similar (since that was the example I was using) to Lunar Lander. It works but animation is somewhat jerky and I can feel by temperature of my phone that it is very busy. Will we benefit from switching to OpenGL? And as a bonus question: what would be a good way to optimize the drawing mechanism (Lunar Lander like) we have now?

  I'm looking for some cost-effective solutions and/or open source options for generating reports in Excel and PDF format. I realize some of the open source options may have less in terms of functionality and flexibility than the COTS versions with all the bells and whistles, but are there any options out there that fall somewhere in between? EDIT: Essentially what I'll have are just some basic HTML reports of data in tables with some calculations/summary data but nothing fancy like graphs, etc. I'll then need the ability to export these HTML reports to Excel and/or PDF.

However, the xDate attribute can only store dates, e.g. dd/MM/yyyy. How do I refactor the above to store a full date object using just one field, i.e. dd/MM/yyyy HH24:mm?

• ADT will not allow creation of Android Activity

  I installed the ADT bundle from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html yesterday, and I was following a basic Hello World tutorial. I created a new Android Application Project with a Blank Activity named MainActivity. The resulting project has an empty src folder and empty res\layout folder. There is a R.java file in the gen folder but it has no reference to MainActivity. This is what the SDK manager says I have installed Android SDK Tools v 22.6 Android SDK Platform-tools v 19.0.1 Android SDK Build-tools v 19 SDK Platform v 3 ARM EABI v7a System Image v 2 Android Support Library v 19.0.1 Google USB Driver v 9 I also tried manually creating an activity by right clicking the src folder and going to Android Activity, but when I hit Finish on the creation wizard, nothing happens. Does anyone have any clues as to what's going on? Did I miss a key component to install or something?

Beside this project, based on some red5 samples, I have an application (done with Flex) that sends audio: rtmp://server/sendAudio (very basic but works). I want to create for each subscribed on my website an admin part where can send an audio stream: http://admin.example.com/foobar. And, when someone goes on their public profile, they can listen to the streamed audio: http://www.example.com/foobar/profile).
