• Running The JVM From Within An MXML Component

  Thinking outside of the box here... What possible basic approaches could be taken in an effort to create a Flex component that could run Java? I know I can easily use flex to browse to or launch a Java app, but there are things I can only do if I can run the Java from WITHIN an MXML Component. I the strictest sense, I know it's not impossible (ie: if you had all the source code for flex and for the jvm), but what's the least impractical means to this end? Showcase your creativity.

• How to make VB to execute my SQL SP with parameters?

  Hi, I have a database in MS SQL Server 2008, I have Stored Procedures. One of them does an INSERT with parameters. It works in Server Management Studio. Now I'd like to make a button in Visual Basic 2008 that executes this SP. I have made a DataSet, it contains my 3 SP's, I can easily use 2 of them, because they return data, but the one I'm having trouble with doesn't. Could anyone please tell me how to make VB to execute it? (The command should look like this: "EXECUTE SP2 a, b, c, d".) Thanks in advance

• Is there a faster TList implementation ?

  My application makes heavy use of TList, so I was wondering if there are any alternative implementations that are faster or optimized for particular use case. I know of RtlVCLOptimize.pas 2.77, which has optimized implementations of several TList methods. But I'd like to know if there is anything else out there. I also don't require it to be a TList descendant, I just need the TList functionality regardless of how it's implemented. It's entirely possible, given the rather basic functionality TList provides, that there is not much room for improvement, but would still like to verify that, hence this question.

• Bypassing Windows Copy design

  I have been trying to figure out a way to streamline copying files from one drive (network or external in my case) to my main system drives. Short of creating a program that I will have to activate each time then choosing all the info in it, I have no really good design to bypass it. I have been wondering if there was a way to intercept a straight-forward windows copy with a program to do it my way. The basic design would be that upon grabbing the copy (actually for this to be efficient, a group of different copies), the program would organize all the separate copies into a single stream of copies. I've been wanting to do this as recently I have been needing to make backups of a lot of data and move it a lot as all my drives seem to be failing the past few months.

  This is probably a basic LINQ question. I have need to select one object and if it is null select another. • Hibernate/JPA and PostgreSQL - Primary Key?

  I'm trying to implement some basic entities using Hibernate/JPA. Initially the code was deployed on MySQL and was working fine. Now, I'm porting it over to use PostgreSQL. In MySQL, my entity class defines its primary key as an auto-incrementing long value with the following syntax: @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) private Long id; However, I've found that I get errors with PostgreSQL when I try and insert numerous records at a time. What do I need to annotate my primary key with to get the same auto-incrementing behavior in PostgreSQL as I have with MySQL? Thanks for any help you can provide!

• How to isolate data per customer, Django powered website

  I have recently started learning python and django and working on a project that includes building a website for collecting information from customers. I am currently trying to figure out best way to isolate the customer data (collected information is sensitive and should only be accessible by customer and the service provider). I found this post Postgresql - one database for everyone, or one-database per customer and my question is that can I automate the model inheritance with customer creation via admin? To be specific, when save() is called for adding customer via django admin, this should create the customer specific tables (create a new set of tables with 'company_name' -prefix). For more information of the environment, I have extended the basic user registration with custom UserProfile adding 'company' and 'role' fields for each user. Upon login, the 'company' of the user will be checked to filter out tables without the 'company_name' prefix. 'Role' will further filter the which company-specific tables and set rights (view, edit). will appreciate any suggestions if more elegant methods could be used to solve the data isolation problem than model inheritance.

• Invalid Token when using XPath

  Hi I am making a modification to a web application using XPath, and when executed I get an error message - Invalid token! This is basic what I am doing public xmlNode GetSelection (SelectParams params, xmldocument docment) { xpathstring = string.format("Name =\'{0}' Displaytag = \'{1}' Manadatory=\'{2}', params.Name, params.Displaytag, params.Manadatory); return document.selectsinglenode(xpathstring); } As you can see, I am making a string and setting values on the nodes I am trying to find against my xml document, and thus returning xml data that matches my parameters. What is happening is that I am getting an xpathexeception error in Visual Studio and it says invalid token. I do know that in the xml document that the parameters I am looking in the tags have double quotes, for example, Name="ABC". So, I thought the problem could be solved using an "\". Can anyone help? Update from comments In the Xml Document, the tag has attributes where they are set as Name="ABC" Displaytag="ATag" Manadatory="true".

• Posting Documentation onto a Joomla Site

  I would like to create some documentation and post it onto my Joomla website. This documentation would be something along the lines of the MSDN documentation: i.e. each page would follow a basic template. Intuitively I feel I have two ways of achieving this: 1) Creating each page of documentation as a separate article, and then linking them up. 2) Creating some kind of template and filling the information from a database. The second option being preferable in the long run. Unforunately I have no idea how to achieve what I'm looking for. I hoped that there would be a component out there that woud help me, but Googling for 'Joomla Documentation' just brings up the documentation for Joomla itself. Has anyone out there put documentation on their site, and how did they achieve it?

  Hi, I have all written code and i want to this code standarise by php code sniffer. I would like to know what is the best way to start with it . I had installed it but when i run the command phpcs /path/to/code/myfile.php in the command line i got the last one hundered line error from 310 to 410 . but if i want to see the starting errors of any line error how can i see that . Mostly errors are 322 | ERROR | Spaces must be used to indent lines; tabs are not allowed 322 | ERROR | Line indented incorrectly; expected at least 8 spaces, found 2 How can i solve these things easily and in future it don't repeat , what it saying that i should not use tab , and use space , by using space it will take time . and how can i start with basic standard ,because don't want to utilise more time in this right now. • MooTools - Programmatically fired events not working with event delegation

  Would really appreciate if anyone can help me figure out why I am unable to fire events programmatically when using event delegation in MooTools (from the Element.Delegation class). There is a parent <div> that has a change listener on some child <input> elements. When the change event is triggered by user actions, the handler on the parent div gets triggered, but when I fire it programmatically with fireEvent on any child input, nothing happens. The basic setup is: html <div id="listener"> <input type="text" id="color" class="color" /> ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????</div>??????????? js $("listener").addEvent("change:relay(.color)", function() { alert("changed!!"); }); $("color").fireEvent("change"); // nothing happens The event handler on the parent div does not get called. • Simply display RSS feed in/on aspx page

  Maybe I am being a n00b here, but for the life of me, I cant find a simple drop in type solution for displaying an rss feed inside an aspx page? I am looking for a simple solution, as when Firefox gets pointed to an rss feed, it just plainly displays it, no thrills, no fuss. I don't want to get into the xml and format it extensively. I just want a basic feed, will style it with font and a:styles. Thats it. Any ideas? EDIT: I am attempting to show a worpress "feed" inside an aspx page...

  Hi, Does anyone know of a solid C# library / approach to manage a hierarchy/web type collection? This would be a library that would basic consist of the concept of nodes & relationships, for example to model web pages/files linked under a URL, or modeling IT infrastructure. It would have key methods such as: Node.GetDirectParents() Node.GetRootParents() Node.GetDirectChildren() Node.GetAllChildren() So it's smarts would include the ability to "walk the tree" of nodes based on the relationships when someone does ask for "give me all the children under this node" for example. It ideally include a persistence layer, to save/retrieve such data to/from a databases (e.g. with a Nodes and Relationships table). Thanks

• Java Swing app hangs when run in normal mode but runs fine in debug mode

  I am writing a basic Java application with a Swing front-end. Basically it loads some data from a Derby database via Apache Cayenne and then displays it in a JTable. I'm doing my development in Eclipse and I don't think it's important but I'm using Maven for dependencies. Now this works fine when I run using Debug but it seems to hang the display thread when I use the Run button. I've done a thread dump and I'm not 100% certain but everything looks good. I used Java VisualVM and the threads look fine there as well. Strangely it seems to work intermittently. It's pretty consistent though and easy to reproduce. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all out of them.

• mocking command object in grails controller results in hasErrors() return false no matter what! Plea

  I have a controller that uses a command object in a controller action. When mocking this command object in a grails' controller unit test, the hasErrors() method always returns false, even when I am purposefully violating its constraints. def save = { RegistrationForm form -> if(form.hasErrors()) { // code block never gets executed } else { // code block always gets executed } } In the test itself, I do this: mockCommandObject(RegistrationForm) def form = new RegistrationForm(emailAddress: "ken.bad@gmail", password: "secret", confirmPassword: "wrong") controller.save(form) I am purposefully giving it a bad email address, and I am making sure the password and the confirmPassword properties are different. In this case, hasErrors() should return true... but it doesn't. • should I include VB macros in source control with my project?

  For a C# project, I make use of several Visual Basic macros in Visual Studio. I was just considering that these would be of use to other developers that work on the C# project. The macros so far include removing trailing whitespace on save, organizing using directives and removing unnecessary ones, and an override for Ctrl-M Ctrl-O that expands regions. Would it be reasonable for me to include this macro code with my C# project in Subversion? I don't know if it's even possible for macros to be made available/work in Visual Studio just because you open a particular Solution file, and that might be too invasive since some of the macros override existing VS behavior.

• Background Image w/Quartz Drawing

  I'm using Quartz to do some basic drawing. I recently decided I wanted a background image for my app. So I went into my XIB file and added a UIImageView and set the background, looks good. However, when I run it, the Z-Index of the image is above my drawing. I googled a bit and found that you can do Layout Send to Back in IB...but that option is grayed out to me when I have my UIImageView selected. Is there an easy way to move this UIImageView permanently to the background? Is there perhaps an alternate method to doing this that I should consider? Thanks

Also, I come from a non CS background (no formal degree) Recently, while being interviewed for a job, I was asked about implementing a queue using a stack. I fumbled and wan't able to answer the question. After, the interview I could do it(had to spend some time). I have learnt (and think that I know it well) basic algorithms in datastructures using the book Data Structures: A Pseudocode Approach with C - Richard F. Gilberg (Author) . I want to know about sites/ books which have such questions along with answers. I think this will allow me to develop my CS specific problem solving skills. Any help is appreciated. • Rails Multiple Table Inheritance question

  I am starting to implement an MTI solution and have a basic question. I have 3 physical models - SMSNotifications, EmailNotifications, TwitterNotifications and they are subclasses of notification. At times in my code, I want to say Notifications.find(:all)so that I can get a set of results sorted by their creation time. Then I want to do things based on their subclass. What is the way to write Notifications.find(:all) and have Rails look through the subclass tables and combine the results? Right now Rails still thinks I have a physical Notifications table which goes against my MTI design. I am also considering the possibility that I should be using STI instead. I would probably have 10 empty columns per row but if getting all notifications requires a query for each type of notification, then I feel like this could be a big issue. Thanks!

I tried to search the trojan software and viruses. But my PC is clean.

  Hey, stack! I'm on charge of building an ASP.NET MVC Document Management System. It have to be able to do basic document management tasks like adding, editing and searching entries and also perform versioning. Anyways, I'm targeting PDF, Office and many image formats as the file attached to each document entry in the database. My question is: What design guidelines do pros follow when building the storage mechanism? Do they store the document files in the file system? Database? How file uploading is handled? I used to upload the files to a temporal location while the user was editing the data and move it to permanent storage when the user confirmed the entry creation. Is this good? Any suggestions on improvement?

Here is an example of column names for a table 'Person': PersonalID, FirstName, LastName, Car, HairColour, FavDrink, FavFood Let's say that I input the row: 121312, Rayna, Pieterson, BMW123d, Brown, NULL, NULL Now I want to update the values for this person, but only if the new value is not null, Update: 121312, Rayna, Pieterson, NULL, Blonde, Fanta, NULL The new row needs to be: 121312, Rayna, Pieterson, BMW123d, Blonde, Fanta, NULL So I was thinking something along the lines of: Update Person(PersonalID, FirstName, LastName, Car, HairColour, FavDrink, FavFood) set Car = @Car (where @Car is not null), HairColour = @HairColour (where @HairColour...)... etc. My only concern is that I can't group all the conditions at the end of the query because it will require all the values to have the same condition. Can't i do something like Update HairColour if @HairColour is not Null
