• What will happen if I change the type of a column from int to year?

  I have a table in MySQL 4.0 which currently has a year field as a smallint(6) type. What will happen if I convert it directly to a Year type with a query like the following: ALTER TABLE t MODIFY y YEAR(4) NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP; When the current members of column y have values like 2010? I assume that because the year type is technically values from 1-255, values above that will be truncated or broken. So if MySQL isn't smart enough to realize that 2010(int) = 110(year), what would be the simplest query or queries to convert the values? Thanks for your help!

  When a user logs inn I want to save their IP in the database. How would I do that? What type is best to use for the MySQL field? How would the PHP code to get IP look like? I'm thinking of using it as an extra security feature for the login/session stuff. I'm thinking of checking the IP the user logged in with from the DB with the IP the user have now as addition to checking the session. So that it first check the session, and then check if you have a valid IP. Is that an allright extra feature? And what other things can I do to make it more secure?

• Data storage advice needed: Best way to store location + time data?

  I have a project in mind that will require the majority of queries to be keyed off of lat/long as well as date + time. Initially, I was thinking of a standard RDBMS where lat, long, and the datetime field are properly indexed. Then, I began thinking of a document based system where the document was essentially a timestamp and each document has lat/long with in it. Each document could have n objects associated with it. I'm looking for advice on what would be the best type of storage engine for this sort of thing is - which of the above idea would be better or if there is something else completely that is the ideal solution.   I have a PHP app that inserts 'Pass', 'Fail' or 'NA' into fields TEST1, TEST2, TEST3... through TEST15. I have a field called OVERALL that needs to be automatically updated with 'FAIL' if any of the TEST1-TEST15 fields contains 'Fail'. I'm pretty sure I need to use a trigger containing the update statement and either CASE or IF, but I haven't been able to nail down the exact syntax. Can anyone please help a MySQL noob? I'm using MySQL Server version: 5.1.63-0+squeeze1 (Debian).

  Hello, I have a simple query like: from e in endContratoRepository.GetAll() where e.Contrato.idContrato == contrato.idContrato && e.Volume.idVolume == 1 && group e by new { e.dpto.idDepartamento, e.centroCusto.idCentroCusto } into grp select new Entidade { Contagem = grp.Count(), centroCusto = grp.Key.idCentroCusto, dpto = grp.Key.idDepartamento } and the problem: The fields that are in the group by, are duplicated in the generated query. The fields centroCusto and dpto appears twice, so when I try to get the field centroCusto, I get dpto. Anyone know how to solve this? thanks a lot!

  Just diving into pylons here, and am trying to get my head around the basics of SQLALchemy. I have figured out how to load a record by id: user_q = session.query(model.User) user = user_q.get(user_id) But how do I query by a specific field (i.e. username)? I assume there is a quick way to do it with the model rather than hand-building the query. I think it has something with the add_column() function on the query object, but I can't quite figure out how to use it.   Hello, I need some help with a MySQL query. I have two tables, one with offers and one with statuses. An offer can has one or more statuses. What I would like to do is get all the offers and their latest status. For each status there's a table field named 'added' which can be used for sorting. I know this can be easily done with two queries, but I need to make it with only one because I also have to apply some filters later in the project.   Wondering if anyone know how to automatically send the user an email after he/she fills out a form. I have the form emailed to me after it gets submitted, but I can't figure out how to capture the user's email from the form field and have it send it to them automatically???   So I just got started in Rails, and I'm trying to create an Object (a book_loan in my case) with a Form. The thing is that I get to this form by clicking on a book, so I pass the book_id as a parameter, like localhost:3000/loans/new?id=1. Now I don't want the user to be able to set the book id field in the form, since I already know the id. So my question is how to set the value in the form. I have been trying things like: <% form_for(@loan) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> ... <%= @loan.book_id = params[:id] %> <%= f.submit 'Create' %> <% end %> without any success. • Is it a problem if i query again and again to SQL Server 2005 and 2000?

  Window app i am constructing is for very low end machines (Celeron with max 128 RAM). From the following two approaches which one is the best (I don't want that application becomes memory hog for low end machines):- Approach One:- Query the database Select GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate which is returning me more than 300 thousands records (but only one field i.e. GUID - 300 thousands GUIDs). Now running a loop to achieve next process of this software based on GUID. Second Approach:- Query the database Select Top 1 GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate with top 1 again and again until all 300 thousands records done. It will return me only one GUID at a time, and I can do my next step of operation. What do you suggest which approach will use the less Memory Resources?? (Speed / performance is not the issue here).

  I have a php page which contains a form. Sometimes this page is submitted to itself (like when pics are uploaded). I wouldn't want users to have to fill in every field again and again, so I use this as a value of a text-input inside the form: value="<?php echo htmlentities(@$_POST['annonsera_headline'],ENT_COMPAT,'UTF-8');?>"> This works, except it adds a "\" sign before every double-quote... For instance writing 19" wheels gives after page is submitted to itself: 19\" wheels And if I don't even use htmlentities then everything after the quotes dissappears. What is the problem here?

  I am packing bytes into a struct, and some of them correspond to a Unicode string. The following works fine for an ASCII string: [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] private struct PacketBytes { [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst = 64)] public string MyString; } I assumed that I could do [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] private struct PacketBytes { [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPWStr, SizeConst = 32)] public string MyString; } to make it Unicode, but that didn't work. (Since this field is part of a struct with other fields, which I've omitted for clarity, I can't simply change the CharSet of the containing struct.) Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

• Having a UITextField in a UITableViewCell

  Hi! I'm trying to do that for a couple of days now, and after reading tons of messages of people trying to do that too, I'm still unable to have a fully working UITextField in some of my UITableViewCells, just like in this example: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4858/picture4za3.png Either I have the form working but the text is not visible (although I set its color to blue), the keyboard goes on the field when I click on it and I haven't been able to correctly implement the keyboard events. I tried with a bunch of examples from Apple (mainly UICatalog, where there is a kinda similar control) but it's still not working correctly. Can somebody help me (and all the people trying to realize this control) and post a simple implementation of a UITextField in a UITableViewCell, that works fine? Thank you very much.

  I would like to accomplish the following: If a username or password field is null, notify the user. If user name already exists, do not insert into the database and notify user to create a different name. if the username is unique and password is not null, return the username to the user. • Is it possible to change the default InputView in MonoTouch?

  I would like to display a different view than the standard keyboard (a picker control, or a date picker, for example) when a text field becomes first responder (i.e. gets focus). This would be really nice, because currently I'm pushing a custom view which contains my picker control onto the navigation stack where the user chooses an option, and then hits an OK or Cancel button. According to the documentation for UITextField.InputView: Assigning a custom view to this property causes that view to be presented instead. But, It's read only!!! Is there a workaround for this? Do I need to implement a custom UITextField control and somehow override the InputView property? Do I need to call some kind of native function? I'd really love not to have to do either of those things... but if I have to, so be it. Thanks in advance!

  I am still trying to figure out how to create reusable partial views in MVC Lets say I would like to create a partial view to display a form for submitting an address. Then in my ViewModel I have two addresses (Home address & Work Address) So I would think that in my view I call HTML.Partial for each one like this @Html.Partial("Address", Model.HomeAddress) @Html.Partial("Address", Model.WorkAddress) but what happens is instead of the fields having names like HomeAddress.Street, HomeAddress.City etc. they just have the regular field names Street, City, etc. so the binder on the HTTPPost action has no idea what to do with them Thanks in advance

• So I dynamically load a jar at runtime how do I use it?

  So question 194698 shows how to load a jar file at runtime and you can load individual named classes and get a Class object. Now my problem is I want to be able to cast those Classes to the types they really are, but I can't because I can't use an import since the whole point is to load it at runtime rather than compile time. It seems like the way to go is to use reflection to discover the functions and field names, but that seems brittle since the API in the jar files could change and the code won't break until it is run. Is there a better way?

  Hi folks, I'm trying to compute the average of a field over various subsets of a queryset. Player.objects.order_by('-score').filter(sex='male').aggregate(Avg('level')) This works perfectly! But... if I try to compute it for the top 50 players it does not work. Player.objects.order_by('-score').filter(sex='male')[:50].aggregate(Avg('level')) This last one returns the exact same result as the query above it, which is wrong. What am I doing wrong? Help would be very much appreciated!
