• ctype_alpha but allow spaces(php)

  I was wondering if one can allow spaces in a textfield when checking it with ctype_alpha. Since ctype_alpha only allows alphabetical letters, I don't know how to let the user enter space in the field. I did try using ctype_space but that didn't work. I simply want the user to be able to type only alphabets and they have a choice to include spaces if they "wish." I hope I will not have to use regexp as I am very new to all of this and hope to learn it at a later date. • mysql stored routine vs. mysql-alternative?

  We are using a mysql database w/ about 150,000 records (names) total. Our searches on the 'names' field is done through an autocomplete function in php. We have the table indexed but still feel that the searching is a bit sluggish (a few full seconds vs. something like Google Finance w/ near-instant response). We came up w/ 2 possibilities, but wanted to get more insight: Can we create a bunch (many thousands or more) of stored procedures to speed up searches, or will creating that many stored procedures bog-down the db? Is there a faster alternative to mysql for "select" statements (speed on inserting & updating rows isn't too important so we can sacrifice that, if necessary). I've vaguely heard of BigTable & others that don't support JOIN statements....we need JOIN statements for some of our other queries we do. thx

I know about magic function __isset( $name ) but it is called only when we test specific field like: empty( $obj->someField ); but not when test whole object.

  I'm trying to read a multi-line tab-separated file in bash. The format is such that empty fields are expected. Unfortunately, the shell is collapsing together field separators which are next to each other, as so: # IFS=$'\t' # read one two three <<<$'one\t\tthree' # printf '<%s> ' "$one" "$two" "$three"; printf '\n' <one> <three> <> ...as opposed to the desired output of <one> <> <three>. Can this be resolved without resorting to a separate language (such as awk)?

• Drupal, template.php where do the $form names come from ?

  hi, I want to customize my Drupal back-end forms. I'm using template.php file.. i.e. $form['menu']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['author']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['buttons']['#weight'] = 100; But I was wondering from where the section names (menu, author, buttons), come from. (They are not id or classes in html code, so I guess there is an index with all names stored somewhere. Where can I get the complete list of section names ? Furthermore, I've added a taxonomy-super-select-checkboxes section by installing the module. How can I refer to this section, to make the field not collapsed. thanks

  how can i get know when user online and offline. when one user log in to my site. i set a script to change database table field of that user, as a boolean to indicates users online states. but my problem is if he/she leaved my site without clicking the log-out button, then my script does not work and database show he/she as a online user. please give me any sugestion to fix this. i have no idea what to do! i check some answers on this topic, but most of says asnwer lie this -- if last activity time is less than now+15 minutes then user is online, offline otherwise. but i have seen some social networking sites shows that we have gone offline, just we close the browser. how they do that ?

  I am a bit lost in all these "" and '' and . in this statement. Basically this query is to get all the tagname from table "tag" and display them for the users as checkboxes. If they have clicked 'submit' and they missed another field(say the title of a post), it would still have the tag they chose displayed. The part I need help with is the echoing part. • Insert date and time into Mysql

  Hi..guys I am trying to insert date and time into mysql datetime field. When a user select a date and time, it will generate two POST variables. I have searched internet but still not sure how to do it. My code. //date value is 05/25/2010 //time value is 10:00 $date=$_POST['date']; $time=$_POST['time']; $datetime=$date.$time If I insert $datetime into mysql, the date appears to be 0000-00-00:00:00:00 I appreciate it if anyone could help me about this. • focusout not triggering when clicking on another selector with a click

  I have 2 divs that each have clicks bound to them. when you click on a div a form is displayed (in another div) that allows you to set properties specific to the div that is clicked. I'm using focusout to save the properties to a data object. everything is working perfectly except when i click on the other div. it seems that the click handler on the other div cancels out the focusout of the form field. Has anyone else experienced this? is so what is the proper way to overcome this?

  Using PHP ... This is for my personal use so I'm thinking maybe 3-4 emails a day. I'm at a point where I can send an email to a dedicated email address where my script parses the message and stores it into a DB. Now, I need to figure out the best way to check the records in the DB for any upcoming task. I feel like I'm missing something, maybe like a trigger field as to when a reminder should go out. However, that's not a concern to me at the moment since I'll just send an alert 15 mins prior to the due date. Question is, shoudl I run a cron job that queries the DB every minute? I take it the query will have to say something like "select all tasks that is due within 15 minutes."

  in my php code I was asking the user to choose day, month and year from some dropdown fields where values where 1, 2, 3 etc instead of 01, 02, 03. these were then combined to form a string like "YYYY-MM-DD" for the insertion in a db (in a date field). Having missed the initial 0, I thought I was sending strings in the wrong format, eg "YYYY-M-D" or YYYY-MM-D", but then I've noticed they appear in the right format in the database anyway: even if I submitted YYYY-M-D, it appeared as YYYY-MM-DD. is this the normal behaviour of mysql? if so, can i just avoid worrying about changing the code in my application?

• Passing NULL values into mysql Stored procedure

  I am trying to pass a few NULL values to a stroed procedure but PHP always retains the varaibles to be empty strings '' and not NULL. My DB insert function looks like this. (I am using a Framework and ADODB so if it looks weird thats why). function insert_emp($f_name, $last_name, $dob) { if(!isset($dob)){ $dob = NULL; } $this->DB->setConnection("CALL insert_emp('$f_name', '$l_name', '$dob')"); } I have ensured that $dob is being passed an empty string ''. But for some reason when it calls the stored proc it is not changed to NULL. dob is a datetime field and mysql complains that you can not enter an empty string as a DATETIME. If I hard code the insert such as this $this->DB->setConnection("CALL insert_emp('Test1', 'Test2', 'NULL')"); it will work. Thanks for the help.

I have an assignment where we are looking for missing data for a particular date - the situation is that users are required to enter a begin and an end note for their shift and their shift is either a day shift or a night shift. So within a 24 hour period there should be a day begin note, day end note, evening begin note and an evening end note I have the command written to generate the required data for ONE DAY ONLY using a BeginDate parameter supplied by the user What I need is to allow the user to enter a date range (add another parameter EndDate), then evaluate the data entry (command) for each day. The parameter being passed in using the user's input is a date and in the Group Expert the user input is not an available field Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated!

  Within Authlogic, is there a way that I can add conditions to the authentication method? I know by using the find_by_login_method I can specify another method to use, but when I use this I need to pass another parameter since the find_by_login_method method only passes the parameter that is deemed the 'login_field'. What I need to do is check something that is an association of the authentic model.. Here is the method I want to use # make sure that the user has access to the subdomain that they are # attempting to login to, subdomains are company names def self.find_by_email_and_company(email, company) user = User.find_by_email(email) companies = [] user.brands.each do |b| companies << b.company.id end user && companies.include?(company) end But this fails due to the fact that only one parameter is sent to the find_by_email_and_company method. The company is actually the subdomain, so in order to get it here I am just placing it in a hidden field in the form (only way I could think to get it to the model) Is there a method I can override somehow..?

I need to create a node with employee working hours (it's gonna be created for all users with role "employee"), which looks like this: Monday: From __ : __ To __ : __ Tuesday: From __ : __ To __ : __ Wednesday: From __ : __ To __ : __ etc. So, I'll have to create probably 14 CCK fields (monday_from, monday_to, tuesday_from...) or more to store the day of the week and workging hours (hours and minutes). 2. I need to add a view with exposed filters, where visitors can filter employees by day of the week and working hours. What kind of field should I use for working hours?   I have a model "Product" with a "description" field. Now I want to have a link in the index page that when clicked will show all products where the description is blank (empty). In the model I have defined a named_scope like this named_scope :no_description, :conditions => { :description => "" } I have checked that the named_scope works by calling Product.no_description.count on the console. As far as I know, the controller is then supposed to handle the filter request from the link on the "index" action but be able to distinguish it from the default which is view all products. def index @products = Product.all ... My problem is getting the controller handle the different request, what route to setup for the link on the view and the actual link on the view. Hope I explained my problem.

• WPF input datagrid?

  I would like to create an input DataGrid - an empty set of rows with the column headers that can be filled with data by a user and then saved to a database. The DataGrid will not be therefore used to display data but acts like an input field. The behaviour would be similar to the one of Excell. The problem is that if the DataGrid has no data provided for it, it is not visible in the application and the user cannot enter anything. Is the DataGrid a good choice? How can this sort of functionality be implemented with a different control? I would prefer to use the DataGrid tough. Thanks a lot for any help on this.
