• Running 32 bit assembly code on a 64 bit Linux & 64 bit Processor : Expalin the anomaly.

  Hello, I'm in an interesting problem.I forgot I'm using 64bit machine & OS and wrote a 32 bit assembly code. I don't know how to write 64 bit code. As we know 64 bit processors are backward compatible with 32 bit processors. So, that also wouldn't be a problem. The problem arises because of differences in system calls & call mechanism in 64-bit OS & 32-bit OS. I don't know why but they changed the system call numbers between 32-bit linux & 64-bit linux. asm/unistd_32.h defines: #define __NR_write 4 #define __NR_exit 1 asm/unistd_64.h defines: #define __NR_write 1 #define __NR_exit 60 Anyway using Macros instead of direct numbers is paid off. Its ensuring correct system call numbers. when I assemble & link & run the program. Its not printing helloworld. In gdb its showing: Program exited with code 01. I don't know how to debug in gdb. using tutorial I tried to debug it and execute instruction by instruction checking registers at each step. its always showing me "program exited with 01". • How to parse HTML with TouchXML or some other alternative.

  Hi, I'm trying to parse the HTML presented below with TouchXML but it keeps crashing when I try to extract certain attributes. I'm totally new to the parser world so I apologize for being a complete idiot. I need help to parse this HTML. What I'm trying to accomplish is to parse each attribute and value or what not and copy them to a string. I've been trying to find a good parser to parse HTML and I believe TouchXML is the best I've seen because of Tidy. Speaking of Tidy, How could I run this HTML through Tidy first then parse it? I'm not sure how to do this. Here is the code that I have so far that doesn't work due to it's not pulling everything I need from the HTML. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. • "Local transaction already has 1 non-XA Resource: cannot add more resources" error

  After reading previous questions about this error, it seems like all of them conclude that you need to enable XA on all of the data sources. But: What if I don't want a distributed transaction? What would I do if I want to start transactions on two different databases at the same time, but commit the transaction on one database and roll back the transaction on the other? I'm wondering how my code actually initiated a distributed transaction. It looks to me like I'm starting completely separate transactions on each of the databases. I ran the app on two different sun application servers. On one runs it fine, the other throws the error. I don't see any difference in how the two servers are configured although they do connect to different, but equivalent databases. So the question is Why doesn't the above code start completely independent transactions? How can I force it to start independent transactions rather than a distributed transaction? What configuration could cause the difference in behavior between the two application servers? Thanks.

• jScrollPane jEditable DOM problems

  Hello world, I am having a funky problem. See (this link won't disappear): www.skitzo.org/~el/bugjeditable.png for the firebug output screenshot. Here's my code. I run getJSON() to fetch the info from the PHP which pulls from DB and I fill a div with the result. I have jScrollPane and jEditable so a user can scroll down and click to edit any of the content. It works sometimes and then it doesn't work which makes me wonder if the browser is not interpreting the code properly or if I am misunderstanding fundamental DOM concepts here.... • Firefox not running jQuery for XHTML output

Has anyone any experience with this problem? EDIT: ADDITIONAL INFO I can successfully insert elements into the documents this way in Firefox (method="xml"): var frag = document.createDocumentFragment(); var p = document.createElement('p'); p.appendChild(document.createTextNode('Ipsum Lorem')); frag.appendChild(p); $('body').append(frag); but I'm running into a similar problem with the .remove() method. It is looking more and more that Firefox doesn't construct a DOM from XML that jQuery can relate to, or somesuch.

• highlight navigation PHP

  I've launched a website a while back and successfully used Javascript + CSS to highlight the current page on the navigation. However, it is not working in Safari and it does not validate well, when using Javascript, so I decided to have PHP assign the CSS id to the HTML elements. So far, it works fine, compared to the other times where there was two of each link displayed, when it was attempted in PHP. My problem is that all links look normal and the CSS property is not applied. I have a feeling that it has to do with my PHP code, but I'm not certain. • Why do I get "Sequence contains no elements"?

  NOTE: see edits at bottom. I am an idiot. I had the following code to process set of tag names and identify/process new ones: IEnumberable<string> tagNames = GetTagNames(); List<Tag> allTags = GetAllTags(); var newTagNames = tagNames.Where(n => !allTags.Any(t => t.Name == n)); foreach (var tagName in newTagNames) { // ... } ...and this worked fine, except that it failed to deal with cases where there's a tag called "Foo" and the list contains "foo". In other words, it wasn't doing a case-insensitive comparison. I changed the test to use a case-insensitive comparison, as follows: var newTagNames = tagNames.Where(n => !allTags.Any(t => t.Name.Equals(n, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase))); ... and suddenly I get an exception thrown when the foreach runs (and calls MoveNext on) newTagNames. The exception says: Sequence has no elements I'm confused by this. Why would foreach insist on the sequence being non-empty? I'd expect to see that error if I was calling First(), but not when using foreach? EDIT: more info. This is getting weirder by the minute. Because my code is in an async method, and I'm superstitious, I decided that there was too much "distance" between the point at which the exception is raised, and the point at which it's caught and reported. So, I put a try/catch around the offending code, in the hope of verifying that the exception being thrown really was what I thought it was. So now I can step through in the debugger to the foreach line, I can verify that the sequence is empty, and I can step right up to the bit where the debugger highlights the word "in". One more step, and I'm in my exception handler. But, not the exception handler I just added, no! It lands in my outermost exception handler, without visiting my recently-added one! It doesn't match catch (Exception ex) and nor does it match a plain catch. (I did also put in a finally, and verified that it does visit that on the way out). I've always taken it on faith that an Exception handler such as those would catch any exception. I'm scared now. I need an adult. EDIT 2: OK, so um, false alarm... The exception was not being caught by my local try/catch simply because it was not being raised by the code I thought. As I said above, I watched the execution in the debugger jump from the "in" of the foreach straight to the outer exception handler, hence my (wrong) assumption that that was where the error lay. However, with the empty enumeration, that was simply the last statement executed within the function, and for some reason the debugger did not show me the step out of the function or the execution of the next statement at the point of call - which was in fact the one causing the error. Apologies to all those who responded, and if you would like to create an answer saying that I am an idoit, I will gladly accept it. That is, if I ever show my face on SO again...

• Array Problem, need to sort via Keys

  Ok, not really sure how to do this. I have values that are being outputted from a SQL query like so: $row[0] = array('lid' => 1, 'llayout' => 1, 'lposition' => 1, 'mid' => 1, 'mlayout' => 1, 'mposition' => 0); $row[1] = array('lid' => 2, 'llayout' => 1, 'lposition' => 0, 'mid' => 2, 'mlayout' => 1, 'mposition' => 0); $row[2] = array('lid' => 2, 'llayout' => 1, 'lposition' => 0, 'mid' => 3, 'mlayout' => 1, 'mposition' => 1); $row[3] = array('lid' => 3, 'llayout' => 1, 'lposition' => 1, 'mid' => 4, 'mlayout' => 1, 'mposition' => 1); $row[4] = array('lid' => 4, 'llayout' => 1, 'lposition' => 2, 'mid' => 5, 'mlayout' => 1, 'mposition' => 0); etc. etc. Ok, so the best thing I can think of for this is to give lid and mid array keys and have it equal the mposition into an array within the while loop of query like so... $old[$row['lid']][$row['mid']] = $mposition; Now if I do this, I need to compare this array's keys with another array that I'll need to build based on a $_POST array[]. $new = array(); foreach($_POST as $id => $data) { // $id = column, but we still need to get each rows position... $id = str_replace('col_', '', $id); // now get the inner array... foreach($data as $pos => $idpos) $new[$id][$idpos] = $pos; } Ok, so now I have 2 arrays of info, 1 from the database, and another from the $_POST positions, I hope I got the array keys correct. Now I need to figure out which one's changed, comparing from the old to the new. And also, need to update the database with all of the new positions where new lid = the old lid, and the new mid = the old mid from each array. I'm sure I'll have to use array_key or array_key_intersect somehow, but not sure exactly how...??? Also, I don't think an UPDATE would be useful in a foreach loop, perhaps there's a way to do a CASE statement in the UPDATE query? Also, Am I going about this the right way? OR should I do it another way instead of using a muli-dimensional array for this.

• Rendering a view to a string in MVC, then redirecting -- workarounds?

  Hi -- I can't render a view to a string and then redirect, despite this answer from Feb (after version 1.0, I think) that claims it's possible. I thought I was doing something wrong, and then I read this answer from Haack in July that claims it's not possible. If somebody has it working and can help me get it working, that's great (and I'll post code, errors). However, I'm now at the point of needing workarounds. There are a few, but nothing ideal. Has anybody solved this, or have any comments on my ideas? This is to render email. While I can surely send the email outside of the web request (store info in a db and get it later), there are many types of emails and I don't want to store the template data (user object, a few other LINQ objects) in a db to let it get rendered later. I could create a simpler, serializable POCO and save that in the db, but why? ... I just want rendered text! I can create a new RedirectToAction object that checks if the headers have been sent (can't figure out how to do this -- try/catch?) and, if so, builds out a simple page with a meta redirect, a javascript redirect, and also a "click here" link. Within my controller, I can remember if I've rendered an email and, if so, manually do #2 by displaying a view. I can manually send the redirect headers before any potential email rendering. Then, rather than using the MVC infrastructure to redirecttoaction, I just call result.end. This seems easiest, but really messy. Anything else? EDIT: I've tried Dan's code (very similar to the code from Jan/Feb that I've already tried) and I'm still getting the same error. The only substantial difference I can see is that his example uses a view while I use a partial view. I'll try testing this later with a view.   I have a script, testforeground.php, that kicks off a background script, testbackground.php, then returns while the background script continues to run until it's finished. Both the foreground and background scripts write to the output file correctly when I run the foreground script from the command line using php-cgi: C:\>php-cgi testforeground.php The above command starts a php-cgi.exe process, then a php-win.exe process, then closes the php-cgi.exe almost immediately, while the php-win.exe continues until it's finished. • Wrong background colors in Swing ListCellRenderer

  I'm currently trying to write a custom ListCellRenderer for a JList. Unfortunately, nearly all examples simply use DefaultListCellRenderer as a JLabel and be done with it; I needed a JPanel, however (since I need to display a little more info than just an icon and one line of text). Now I have a problem with the background colors, specifically with the Nimbus PLAF. Seemingly the background color I get from list.getBackground() is white, but paints as a shade of gray (or blueish gray). Outputting the color I get yields the following: Background color: DerivedColor(color=255,255,255 parent=nimbusLightBackground offsets=0.0,0.0,0.0,0 pColor=255,255,255 However, as can be seen, this isn't what gets painted. It obviously works fine for the selected item. Currently I even have every component I put into the JPanel the cell renderer returns set to opaque and with the correct foreground and background colors—to no avail. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here? • Two UIViews, one UIViewController (in one UINavigationController)

  Given an iPhone app with a UITableViewController pushed onto a UINavigationController, I would like to add a right bar button item to toggle between the table view and an "alternate" view of the same data. Let's also say that this other view uses the same data but is not a UITableView. Now, I know variations on this question already exist on Stack Overflow. However, in this case, that alternate view would not be pushed onto the UINavigationController. It would be visually akin to flipping the current UIViewController's table view over and revealing the other view, then being able to flip back. In other words, it's intended to take up a single spot in the UINavigationController hierarchy. Moreover, whatever selection you ultimately make from within either view will push a common UIViewController onto the UINavigationController stack. Still more info: We don't want to use a separate UINavigationController just to handle this pair of views, and we don't want to split these apart via a UITabBarController either. Visually and contextually, the UX is meant to show two sides of the same coin. It's just that those two sides happen to involve their own View Controllers in normal practice. Now … it turns out I have already gone and quickly set this up to see how it might work! However, upon stepping back to examine it, I get the distinct impression that I went about it in a rather non-MVC way, which of course concerns me a bit. Here's what I did at a high level. Right now, I have a UIViewController (not a UITableViewController) that handles all commonalities between the two views, such as fetching the raw data. I also have two NIBs, one for each view, and two UIView objects to go along with them. (One of them is a UITableView, which is a kind of UIView.) I switch between the views using animation (easy enough). Also, in an effort to keep things encapsulated, the now-split-apart UITableView (not the UIViewController!) acts as its own delegate and data source, fetching data from the VC. The VC is set up as a weak, non-retained object in the table view. In parallel, the alternate view gets at the raw data from the VC in the exact same way. So, there are a few things that smell funny here. The weak linking from child to parent, while polite, seems like it might be wrong. Making a UITableView the table's data source and delegate also seems odd to me, thinking that a view controller is where you want to put that per Apple's MVC diagrams. As it stands now, it would appear as if the view knows about the model, which isn't good. Loading up both views in advance also seems odd, because lazy loading is no longer in effect. Losing the benefits of a UITableViewController (like auto-scrolling to cells with text fields) is also a bit frustrating, and I'd rather not reinvent the wheel to work around that as well. Given all of the above, and given we want that "flip effect" in the context of a single spot on a single UINavigationController, and given that both views are two sides of the same coin, is there a better, more obvious way to design this that I'm just happening to miss completely? Clues appreciated!

  Problem : We have equal number of men and women.each men has a preference score toward each woman. So do the woman for each man. each of the men and women have certain interests. Based on the interest we calculate the preference scores. So initially we have an input in a file having x columns. First column is the person(men/woman) id. id are nothing but 0.. n numbers.(first half are men and next half woman) the remaining x-1 columns will have the interests. these are integers too. now using this n by x-1 matrix... we have come up with a n by n/2 matrix. the new matrix has all men and woman as their rows and scores for opposite sex in columns. We have to sort the scores in descending order, also we need to know the id of person related to the scores after sorting. So here i wanted to use hash table. once we get the scores we need to make up pairs.. for which we need to follow some rules. My trouble is with the second matrix of n by n/2 that needs to give information of which man/woman has how much preference on a woman/man. I need these scores sorted so that i know who is the first preferred woman/man, 2nd preferred and so on for a man/woman. I hope to get good suggestions on the data structures i use.. I am just trying to have a better solution. so i am asking suggestions on the type of data structure to use. Conceptually I tried using an array of hashes. where the array index give the person id and the hash in it gives the id's <= score's in sorted manner. I initially start with an array of hashes. now i sort the hashes on values, but i could not store the sorted hashes back in an array.So just stored the keys after sorting and used these to get the values from my initial unsorted hashes. Can we store the hashes after sorting ? Can you suggest a better structure ?

  hi guys, I have to create a script that takes a mySQL table, and exports it into .XSL format, and then saves that file into a specified folder on the web host. I got it working, but now I can't seem to get it to automatically save the file to the location without prompting the user. It needs to run every day at a specified time, so it can save the previous days leads into a .XSL file on the web host. • Throwing a C++ exception from inside a Linux Signal handler

  As a thought experiment more than anything I am trying to get a C++ exception thrown "from" a linux signal handler for SIGSEGV. (I'm aware this is not a solution to any real world SIGSEGV and should never actually be done, but I thought I would try it out after being asked about it, and now I can't get it out of my head until I figure out how to do it.) Below is the closest I have come, but instead of the signal being caught properly, terminate() is being called as if no try/catch block is available. Anyone know why? Or know a way I can actually get a C++ exception from a signal handler?   I have been given the task at work of screen scraping one of our legacy web apps to extract certain data from the code. The data is formatted and "should" be displayed exactly the same every time. I am just not sure how to go about doing this. It's a full html file with header and footer navigations but in the middle of all this is the data I need. • Can't seem to redirect from a ViewScoped constructor.

  I'm having trouble redirecting from a view scoped bean in the case that we don't have the required info for the page in question. The log entry in the @PostContruct is visible in the log right before a NPE relating to the view trying to render itself instead of following my redirect. Why is it ignoring the redirect?
